Republican President Michael Sata has said that government has no plans to curtail the powers of the paramount Chief Litunga of western Province.

Mr. Sata said that there are some opposition leaders in the country spreading rumors that government is working on a piece of legislation that will reduce the powers of The Litunga.

The head of state has indicated that the Litunga is no exception from the other o paramount chiefs in the country and that the government will not waste its time coming up with legislation to target an individual traditional leader.

Mr. Sata has since urged government officials and the newly appointed deputy minister of education Patrick Ngoma in particular to ensure that they explain government policies to the people of Zambia.

The President was speaking at statehouse this morning when he swore in Mr. Ngoma as deputy minister in the ministry of Education.

And Mr. Sata has urged Mr. Ngoma to work with his colleagues in the ministry of education in trying to improve the quality of education especially in the rural areas.

The President has observed the need for the government to also improve access to education in the country adding that government also plans to abolish the basic education system in the country.

Meanwhile, first lady Dr. Christine Kaseba- Sata has donated a Higer Luxury bus to St. Monica’s secondary school of eastern Province.

Handing over the bus at statehouse on behalf of the first lady, President Sata said Dr. Kaseba will also identify other schools in the country that are in need for transport facilities.

  1. the tongas at watchdog have put a totally different spin on this report.l dont know what medication they are on

    • No doubt they are either on crystal methamphetamine, crack cocaine or both

  2. The powers of the Litunga lies, not with GRZ, but with the Barotse National Council and the people of barotseland. Data and his government are just as nothing in barotseland affairs, as he could be to American legislation.

Sata must have respect if he want us to respect him

    • Dream on as HE MCS put it , the Litunga is just like any paramount chief living on Zambia on govt land owned by GRZ period

    • Absolutely right, the litunga has no special powers than any other paramount chief in Zambia. This has been the case in the past and will surely remain so forever

    • Ndefwaya ukwisa ku mwenu nkasendeko ama Cashew nuts, Please do not fight because of Tribe. we shall leave you alone with Tongas muka ibulale.

  3. Mr. Sata please disband the chiefdoms, they have become irrelevant in today’s world. In fact, chiefs have always performed badly. In the past they sold their people for salt, guns and old clothes (salaula) the Europeans, Arabs and Indians brought to them. They also married other people’s daughters by false. Today chiefs are the cause of regionalism and tribalism.
In future first ladies should also not receive public time, they are just noise makers and showy.

  4. No 1 you are an *****, and you are so silly, that you can even insult your own father. Why don’t you just stay way from this column instead of insulting our President, I guess I know where you come from.

  5. Dr Kaseba to identify ka????????????? anyway Sata has no powers over the Litunga so thats not a story currently. No wonder the swearing in ceremonies at state house can’t stop coz he uses that platform to speak nonsense OMG

  6. That is where all these Presidents of Zambia get it all wrong! From antiquity to 1889, and from 1889 to end of British rule, the Litunga was never been the equivalent to the current other paramount chiefs in Zambia. The Litunga was King. But under the present Zambian farm, the PIGs have usurped his powers for their selfish motives. Let the PIGs give back power to People from whence the Protectionist got it from, through their King. Barotseland, was never colonised, All through British domination, Barotseland has been a protected territory. Barotseland only got colonised by Kaunda and his successors of this Animal farm. White discrimination good, Black discrimination better!

    • And what are u gonna do abt it?.let the Litunga take you back to Lesotho before we do a genocide on you lot

    • @Maano: The crap you spouting here is all in your head, nothing more than that! Barotseland was never colonized; you mean the sand dunes along the Zambezi? If you were noever colonized why do you insist on wearing that ideous looking Scotish Kapaso uniform as your Litunga’s official dress? You guys were so ntotally brainwashed by “white rule” (colonialism) such that even in the twenty first century you still can’t beleive the British moved on. Move on sweet people of Western province, the British ain’t coming back!!!!

    • no 12 iwe  engineer waku australia ulishilu sana. it takes one to know the other so iwe  ninshi ulapepa lubangula tefyo.

  7. Litunga has same powers as other paramount chiefs, like the president says nothing really special about him,, he is on Zambian land owned by GRZ,, if he doesn’t like it he can track back to Lesotho with his Lozi clan simple

  8. #10 Nyerere abolished all relics and appendages of feudalism because he desired no distractions from his development agenda with characters referring to mere villagers as kings. And look at the economy of Tanzania; its definitely much stronger than that of Zambia. Zambia, too, must reconsider the issue of this medieval practice.

    • Narrant or whatever the hell you call yourself; there is no development to boast about in TZ. The people are as docile as you are. Moreover, Nyerere was a misplaced communist, his only desire was to keep the Tanzanians under slavery in the name of Ujama, he managed to some extent. Here at Zed forget it, it will never, KK failed no one will.

  9. #6 you are stup.id  u fool everyone knows that ur president is mad….who cares abt it? go to hell with ur element called CNP

  10. mwe batu chanda chiimba advise u zed pipo that this king cobra he will reduce the powers of the king litunga, so if me am not suprise with this fake boma and waiting for comdies pa zed.

  11. #1 AL – I agree with you. If you see my posting on ZWD it wasn’t very kind. I think I will soon stop commenting on stories because now it is becoming clear that even ALL MEDIA have their own motives. Whatever happenend to objective reporting. I have my own criticisms of PF and Sata but I don’t want to do it based on hatred. I’m an intellectual and want to base my criticism on reality. Some of us rely mostly on reported stories. This article puts everything into proper perspective. I personally do not criticise for criticising sake… that king of criticism without proper facts will not help Zambia and I hope media houses realise that and practice responsible journalism. I’m very disappointed with the media…infact I’m annoyed for making me seem like a fool. This hurts really.

  12. The First lady gat money….donating a luxury Bus to a school.

Opposition leaders and MP’s, don’t just sit in parliament; this is something you can provide a proper check on for once. Ask the government to explain what it’s doing about the transport problems in all government schools, and how it has come to be that the First Lady is now wealthy enough to take up the responsibility of providing transportation.

    • 20.1 Cycle Mata … It’s unfortunate you call someone you don’t even know a fool and top it with the classical mature American comment ‘grow up’. Very insightful! It’s a pity the point in my comment is beyond your full ‘grown’ self.

  13. Litunga is just a chief, what is so special about him?. I also thoight Mongu is another country , how come some are worried that Sata will cut off the power of their president?? I just cant put things together hey.

  14. In korea, china, britain and even south africa u will never see a first lady donating or talking rubbish in public, where did mata’s wife get the money to start donating luxury coaches? And now she is the ministry of education to start identifying which schools need help? Pa Zed we need delieverance!

    • Sorry, you are not confortable when your friends donate something. in your case you do not even give tithe to your Church. sorry

    • You guys are mad, the Government should come up with an S,I that Cement blocks should be made in Western Province. and Kapiri Glass should relocate to western Province as well because of plenty sand.

  15. Ok, the watchdog people are just something else no wonder the Lozis are angry. How do you spin a story like that? Am I naive; I meean what’s the motive behind such a spin? Aren’t they they ones that recently carried a story about the Rwandan genocide? Is that the route they want us to take? Geez!

  16. Absolutely right, the litunga has no special powers than any other paramount chief in Zambia. This has been the case in the past and will surely remain so forever and ever….. amen!!

  17. Where did akazi anzao of bishop mpundu’s sisters get the money to donate a luxury bus to a school in Chipata where there is no petrol?

  18. Yaba, Ukwa has gained weight within a short time! In 4 years time he will end up like GBM if he is no careful.

  19. Guys let us comment wisely than passing insults we need to have manners and respects for elder and the chosen ones.

  20. Please study the governance structure of Barotseland and see how decisions are arrived at then you will realize that true power is vested with the people than in the Litunga! The government can not talk about the powers of the Litunga without the Kuta.

Hmmm! “Handing over the bus at statehouse on behalf of the first lady, President Sata said Dr. Kaseba will also identify other schools in the country that are in need for transport facilities.” Dr. Kaseba and not even stating whether the Ministry of Education will have a role in the identification process but through individual choice. Seems there are instant riches for first ladies once in state house. I pity schools not in Bembaland and PF strongholds!

  21. NO 6. YOU SPEAK INSULTING LANGUAGE LIKE YR MAD BLACK MAMBA OR IS IT KING COBRA? ANYONE WHO USES BAD LANGUAGE IN THIS COUNTRY IS COPYING FROM THIS CHAMBA SMOKING CREATURE WHOM YOU WRONGLY CALL A PRESIDENT. BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH TO STOP ANYONE INSULTING YOUR CHAMBA
SMOKING HYENA TELL YOUR SO CALLED PRESIDENT FIRST TO WATCH HIS MOUTH NOT INSULTING THE PEOPLE WHO PUT HIM IN POWER. IS YOUR CHAMBA SMOKING
SATA FRUSTRATED WITH HIS LIFE BECAUSE HE WAS CASTRATED IN INDIA TO SAVE HIS LIFE SINCE HE HAD PROSTATE CANCER? YOU ARE AS ANNOYING AS YOUR
    CHAMBA SMOKER SATA THING.

  22. NO. 6 – LOOK IN THE EYES of this man blackmamba sata. EYES RED BECAUSE ALL
THE CHAMBA SMOKE GOES IN HIS EYES. HOW DO YOU EXPECT this man to perform normally when all the
time he is under the influence of Chamba mixed with petrol so that chakalipa sana?

BY THE WAY TELL HIM THAT HE NOTHING COMPARED TO A FORMER AMERICAN PRESIDENT. FIFTEEN satas equals to ONE FORMER AMERICAN PRESIDENT. IN TERM OF RESPECT. PRESIDENT BUSH IS FAR FAR FAR MORE RESPECTED WORLD WIDE WHILST HIM NO ONE EVEN KNOWS HIM WHO HE IS (sata). watch sata he is the only man whose hands are always in his pockets when ever he IS ADDRESSING PEOPLE COMPARED TO OTHER FORMER HEADS OF STATE. so pompas arrogant and primitive.

  23. GRZ has all the rights in Zambia, therefore is see no reason why selfish pipo cannot be dealt with. Am now wondering if that’s the campaign gimmick or not.

  24. Whether u call him names, he is the Republican President and he clearly won the elections. Some of u writing nonsense about the Republic Presido also sound like u smoke ichamba and kaponyas. Ba kolwe baiseka ifi pato. One Zambia One Nation One Pipo & One Presido. If u don’t like Mr Sata borders are not wall fenced just cross into any of Zambia’s neighbouring country where your great great grand father originated. Enough of your insulted can now be channelled to your fathers.

  25. those of you complaining about watchdog, are  you just realizing that now, most of the stories there are taken out of context of pure fabrications, i don’t comment there anymore. it is clear that they want PF government to fail or to just paint it so!

  26. Please do not give us chamba takers a bad name, there is nothing wrong with that herbal plant especially if it is high grade.

Chamba has produced some of the best leaders plus movers and shakers in the world such as Obama, Shakespeare, Michelangelo, Albert Einstein, Shaka Zulu etc

Litunga’s Paramount Chief status should be removed, he and his relatives have abused that status and used it to commit all kinds of crimes that would see Litunga been sent to the Hague for crimes against humanity if a case was brought against him.

The government must abolish the Litungaship, why give Paramount status to one particular chief when there are other chiefs in the same area. It is either each tribe in Zambia should have a paramount chief or none should have one.

  27. Government must accord each Chief or Traditional Leader in Zambia paramount status or no chief should be seen to be higher in rank than the other because such are political appointment.

One can ask, what is the criteria for according a chief paramount status while leaving others as ordinary chiefs? Such laws are divisive and should be done away with.

The government system must be equal and fair, colonial laws need to be wiped out so that only those laws that promote equality and fairness should be promoted.

Paramount status is political and it needs to be re-aligned to modern society.

  28. Utter Rubbish!!!! did any of these tu ma Chiefs assist in the independence of Zambia . Whats make the Unitary state of Zambia is as a result of our Litunga signing an agreement… its really important for people to be schooled the result of being a failure and not being able to comprehend the truth.

  29. What is so special about Ka village headman Litunga….!!! Afterall, he is just any other village chief e.g Mwansabombwe or Kapijimpanga.

  30. hh will pls teach the hyenas how to organise press conferrenses where national issue deed to be articulated.we dont need these swearing in ceremonies which the jackal uses for insulting the kings of this world.because without lecturing this hyena one day he will end up reshaffling the monkey and zebras at state house

  31. am based in mongu and i can tell you all that the Litunga is just a normal guy.he has no powers whatsoever.if he did then we dont see them coze he does nothing to affect the welfare of his pipo.he simply owns a lot of undeveloped land which he could have given to investors long ago to develop and create jobs for his lazy bunch.he however chooses to keep the land thinking that it makes him powerful.nowonder theres abject poverty in western province.i support MCS on this one,Litunga is just a chief like all chiefs.no one gives a damn about him.i actually pity the guy for giving his pipo false hopes over the BA agreement.he should be prosecuted for misleading his pipo and causing death.i end here!!

  32. you fools, the LITUNGA is not a paramount chief. He is just the LITUNGA. As for this fool you call the president, he is not fit to be even a section leader. How sad.

  33. Who is Sata to Barotseland, He is like any empty drums that keeps making nosie. Hell with yo state house.Bulozi Ki bwaluna, wena mwana a noha

  34. Bantustan Nyandules and their watchgalu are deadly and capable of bringing serious trouble to this country. They need to be tamed and sent to school to learn journalism. What they are practicing is utter gutter journalism. If I was in Government I would throw all of them including their diaper man sponsor in prison for 100 years

  35. LT start screening postings and block all Batustan Nyandule from bringing insults to your site. Their watchgalu blocks anyone critical of their gutter journalism and insults

  36. I have traversed across the lenghth and breadth of westen province and i dont see how this mere headman litunga exerts influence over the people of western province! Yes he has a vast undeveloped land under customary law but what is the purpose of having such a land without opening it to people who could develop it? Infact this mere headman is the main obstacle to development in western province and he seems to be wallowing in the past “glory” of his ancestors! In our great language we say that “Ubulimi bwakale, tabutalalika mwana” meaning that you can not convince a hungry child by telling him tales of how you were once a successful farmer! So wake up you people from western province because your so called king is very impotent!

  37. When Thandiwe Banda was donating materials PF questioned her involvement in GRZ functions and even took her to court. We now have madam Kaseba Sata donating buses to schools. She is infact now in Europe with a large number of delegates on her entourage at GRZ expense.Has the status of the First Lady now changed to that of Thandiwe Banda?

  38. President Micheal Sata is absolutely right with his statement and it is NOT having any insult in it to the Litungu. He was merely reacting to the misbahaviour of a Lozi politician. What the President should do is to state very clearly to our lozi brothers and sisters that Zambia will forever remain a Unitary State whether the BNC and the BRE like it or not. So that we can drive away anyone including the Litunga dares to take up arms into Angola and die there as a refuge.

  39. BUT YOUR LEADER IS A LOSER. FROM BUSH TO THE LITUNGA. CAN’T HE CONCENTRATE ON DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THOSE ROTTEN TEETH. HE’S A BAD AMBASSADOR OF YOUR COUNTRY. ANYWAY MOST ZAMBIANS I KNOW HAVE ROTTEN OR STAINED TEETH.

  40. It’s amazing how some people think! Ba number 10 sure; honestly can PIGs grab power from Humans? Then such people are useless and not worthy to be in Zambia.
    Shame!

  41. @42

Iam wondering as to what is in that thick thing you call head! I strongly and reasonably suspect it is full of s.h.i.t! Ifimafi nafyo fishiki polomya! Sata has been through that and for your information, he held several senior government positions since kaunda days and you are a beneficiary of some of his decisions! The person who is supposed to be at that level is your Kadansa Hyena because he has never been in government, not even as a councilor and he wants to be president? Obviously in your dream land! Keep fishing mwana Lesa waluse kuti walobako nangu ilyauma!

    • What has sata g to show for all his experience? he is like those students we called vikopo and sat with us in class from grade one to seven without grasping anything. with the kind of experience that he has, we should see better things like diplomacy, honest, consistence, knowledge and respect of the law. none of his promises have been fulfilled so far. he lacks presidential etiqette and statesmanship hence the fast eroding respect.

  42. The Litunga’s powers are not different from those of other chiefs. He is just a chief and he has his own powers over the lozi people.I also thought Mongu is a town until I went there. It is just a village, nothing to write home about!!

  43. I will never trust a politician with stinking rotten teeth pissing blood! These are all symptoms of an advanced case of neuro-syphilis, it incurable and how Zambians could elect such a sick moron to power is beyond me. Maybe they want another state funeral.

    • ba guy be careful you might die before the Sata, life is unpredictable my friend. u may get involved in car accident and die people the a person in IC. don’t wish anyone death my friend, its inhumane!

  44. His Royal Highness is King not paramount chief nonesense you’re runting. HIS KING do not compare him to these small chiefs of yours. Sibitwane was he a chief of King? Revisit the bulozi dynasty and your history please

  45. For one to be a LITUNGA you must be educated not a grade seven or a former police officer. I don’t know about ka kazembe na ka chiti have these chaps been to school or ni ba sikopo donono.

  46. @ # 57, you are a stupid *****. that post is just inherited you fool not even education. go f.u.c.k your yourself

  47. Masipa a mina kaufela bo namalyanga tuni, ha moho cwalo president wamina wa munungu. The Litunga is a King. linjoko tuni, minungu ya mina.
