Nine by-elections are looming in the MMD held constituencies after party president Nevers Mumba this morning warned that to expel all MMD members of parliament currently serving as Deputy Ministers in the patriotic front government.

Dr. Nevers Mumba said this at media briefing at the party secretariat in Lusaka that the move is aimed at instilling discipline in the former ruling party. Dr. Mumba has since charged that the nine MMD mps in question have a choice to leave the party or join the PF and relinquish their parliamentary seats.

He said the party would rather have a few mps than have a bunch of indiscipline Parliamentarians.

And MMD Chilanga Member of Parliament Keith Mukata who is currently commerce deputy minister is reported to have handed his resignation letter as Deputy Minister to President Michael Sata.

And Dr. Mumba has announced that veteran politician and MMD founder member Vernon Mwaanga will next month retire from active politics. He said Mr. Mwaanga will however serve the party on the council of elders to be constituted soon.

Meanwhile, Former Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) Kanchibiya Constituency aspiring candidate Sunday Chanda has resigned from the former ruling party.

In an interview with Qfm news, Mr. Chanda says his resignation from the MMD is informed by the unacceptable levels of intolerance, persecution and loss of vision on the part of the leadership of the Party.

Mr. Chanda who has wished the MMD well in its future endeavors, has not ruled out the possibility of joining a progressive political party but that he will commit to the Open Society Foundation, an organisation that advocate for good governance and creation of youth employment among others.

He says his resolve to point out the ills committed by the previous regime earned him all sorts of names with some party officials making wild allegations against his personality.

Mr. Chanda has thanked the MMD for giving him an opportunity to contest the Kanchibiya seat on the party ticket in last year’s tripartite elections stating that the experience allowed him to appreciate common facing people in Mpika which are poverty and disease.

He said unless all Zambians acknowledge their role in today’s unemployment levels, a national agenda to create a better life for the people will continue to elude the nations for many years to come.

  1.  ka Sunday Chanda hahahahhahahaha you are fool..sh and stu..pid,,,,shame on you *****…..you are not serving pipo …what u want is money u sily…naught boy beta u go and act porn may be it will suilt u

  2. Nevers really lacks strategy, why would one keep expelling MPs when a constitutional vote that could ease his ascendance to power is looming? He will cry foul when the constitution fails to go through parliament at his own doing.

  3. awe these pipo are jst being selfish they think they ar still popular mr mumba u ar in a sinking boat wake up

    • Hahahahahaha, the Zambian economy is large enough that the cost of an entire election is comparatively immaterial! Let’s avoid ‘pettitude’.

  4. These are just tricks of Nevers Mumba…he wants MMD to go down the drain and change the name into his own party…resurrection of the mumba party…MMD is a dead party.

  5. What is wrong with MMD MPs serving as deputy Ministers, We are a Multiparty State You Idi.ot?? This is why Zambia will always lack behind, how would an Opposition Leader think this Low??This will be the END of MMD.-

  6. preach preach Pastor Mumba, cast out devils from MMD, torment Sata torment him… give the old-man nightmares. Fire-impact!!!!

  7. Whoever voted Nevers must be regreting by now that this Mumba is upto nothing but ruining the founder party of democracy. By the way how do entrust leadership into somebody who first dumped the church to a political party which he later again abondoned to win himself selfish finacial score . Personally Mumba is not a factor in zambias politics. Let him be just weaved into HH’s tribal and bitter political ambitions.Maybe he thought MMD has the monies he can loot like he did to the church like he did in Namibia.

  8. Iwe Mumba, what is multipatism? No wonder you abandoned your church and join politics. These Mps are serving the people of Zambia and not PF. Why expel them? Late president Levy Mwanawasa appointed you Vice President when you were opposition party president, why did you accept the appointment? You are just selling this chi MMD ba mudala

  9. My elder brother Mumba, can you hold your fire.Don’t forget that the MMD’s era passed as from September,2012.What is remaining for MMD is just to provide constructive opposition to the ruling PF. Sacking old members from the party is further weakening an already weakened party. Remember that when people resolve to change Government, they will not bring MMD back because they know all about MMD.Pastor Mumba may not have been among the Ministers then, but people no so much about him.My brother, don’t start too much yet because you have not tested too much from the ruling party.Let’s be accomodative of each other and avoid confrontational politics.

Yours concerned patriot in Cairo Egypt

  10. I dare you, you sanctimonious little man, not only will we have costly by-election but there is a chance of your vile MMD may not retaining some of those seats. So go ahead!!

  11. HELLO MMD IS DEAD MUMBA WILL SOON LEAVE IT TO FORMER ANOTHER PARTY AS HE LIKES DOING IT.SUSPEND MPs FOR WHAT? MMD LOST ELECTIONS LAST YEAR THATS IT SIMPLE AND PIPO KNOW THAT VERY WELL.

    • Regardless how many times you shade your skin or change your opinion, my friend, you are usually out of order. One funny thing is that even inconsistent people are very consistent in their inconsistencies. I remember how you retorted to profane words at MMD Chief Bootlicker. The wrinkles of desperation can nolonger be hidden by the make- up on your face. Get an ideology and argue constructively and not irrationally. You use upper case (a k a caps lock) because you feel the need to shout is the only way to be heard.

  12. Although this move is not good for democracy, I do not blame Nevers for reaching this decision. PF has created animosity by attempting to de-register MMD. It looks like a defensive action and may result in an improvement in the opposition function. Time will tell if this move is good or bad, however the PF govt to me looks like is in a self destructive mode by failing to embrace democratic principles.

    • Janet – Is it your opinion that PF prevented MMD from paying their dues? Let us learn to separate facts from fiction. The only reason the Registrar could not take any action before was because MMD was in power, but regardless of where you stand on this issue, the little fact is MMD did not take care of its responsibilities.

  13. Nevers, expel these MPs at your own peril. PF is more than happy to go for by-elections so that it can boost its numbers in our single chamber parliament from the current 64 (plus 9 =73)
On the other hand, you are quick to condemn PF on your perceived “wastage of resources.” What would you call your impending expulsions and the resulting by-elections?…prudent utilization of national resources MMD style?
You are now showing your true selfish colours.

  14. Just increase the monthly subscription that each of those 9 MPs should be contributing to the party failure to which MMD will continue sinking like UNIP. If they are expelled, am sure you’re already aware that it is almost impossible to retain a single seat.

  15. Good move if well implemented.

All he needs to do is tackle them case by case starting with Masumba.

As you can see by starting with Masumba, Mukata’s case has already resolved itself.

My advice to MMD is, please do NOT expell all of them in one goal like Sata did, fix them one by one and before you realise the problem will have been solved completely.

  16. iwe kwena, your memory is very short. sata did not expel any MP from PF. They served up to the last year until they were adopted in the last election. Dont just yup my man.

    • Sata expelled 27 MPs, they just clung on using the Court. Was your comment meant to be a prank or are you normally a serious person?

    • @Kwena, let us look at it from a moral perspective and assume that he (Sata) actually expelled the MPs. Let’s look at reason: Sata expelled these MPs because the sided with a constitution that did not allow for 50+1, a measure the MMD are now licking their lips for. He expelled them because they sided with a constitution that removed punitive measures for abuse of office. On the other hand, Nevers has simply expelled his MPs because they formed part of government, how ironic. Nevers himself auctioned the NCC to work under Mwanawasa. Nevers’ economic capacity ends on the offering plate and does not extend to the treasury!

  17. Nevers is a fool. He is busy predicting illusions about MMD instead of mapping out a greater good for all Zambians.

I want to throw up everytime I see this miserable two time loser. Fuseke!

  18. This could be the strating point if you want your spouse back, start saying things in a factual way. Good day!

  19. NEVERS IS MYOPIC. HE IS FORGETTING THAT HE WAS MADE VICE-PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA BY MWANAWASA WHEN HE WAS PRESIDENT OF HIS OWN POLITICAL PARTY, “ATI SHANI ISHINA”, AND WAS ACTING AS HAVING MORE WISDOM THAN MWANAWASA THUS WAS EXPELLED. BUT BANDA GAVE HIM THAT POSITION AS AMBASSADOR. LET HIM TALK ABOUT MORE SENSIBLE THING, DEVELOPMENT AND VISION OF THE COUNTRY.

  21. Part 1 of Nevers Mumba’s boobs – He was in Canada when you campaigned for and won those seats guys and little does he know that you won those seats more because you resonate with the aspirations of your constituencies than just belonging to the MMD. LEt him fire you and you’ll win back these seats in whatever form you come!

  22. Do I hear the death knell for MMD? It is loud and clear and its being sounded by uyou umu guys Mumba. The man is politically bankrupt. Sata should not waste his time to de-register MMD – let CNP Mumba do it for him without dirtying his hands.

  23. LET ME REMIND THIS FAKE PASTOR THAT ON 2nd JUNE 2003, HE WAS APPOINTED AS VICE PRESIDENT BY LATE DR MWANAWASA(MHSRIEP). HE WAS BY THEN A FAILED PRESIDENTIAL CANDITATE. SO WHY IS HE NOW BACKING NOW HIS OPPOSITION PMs ARE IN GIVERNMENT. SHORT MEMORY HUH BA NEVERS

  24. What do you expect from Nevers if not selfishness. kano nibo. Vice President appointed from NCC dumping his own party for personal gain. Imagine this guy can not even interprete the laws guiding appointments. What a political party president , so selfish and short sighted.

  25. HO HO HO HO HO, LET ME REMIND THIS FAKE PASTOR THAT ON 2nd JUNE 2003, HE WAS APPOINTED AS VICE PRESIDENT BY LATE DR MWANAWASA(MHSRIEP). HE WAS BY THEN A FAILED PRESIDENTIAL CANDITATE. SO WHY IS HE NOW BACKING NOW HIS OPPOSITION PMs ARE IN GIVERNMENT. SHORT MEMORY HUH BA NEVERS

  26. Even in advanced democracies like the USA, you have opposing political party members serving in top government positions, e.g. Robert Gates (Republican) served as Defense Secretary in the Obama Administration. Ba Mumba, MMD MP’s being asked to serve in an opposition’s government does not constitute indiscpline. Kufilila munsenga? Rubbish! When is Chipimo stepping up to become the #1 opposition in the country kanshi? We need someone born after 1964, born in Zambia!!!

    • Even John Huntsman, a republican who stood for the party candidacy was appointed by Obama as ambassador to China.

  27. MMD you are currently riding on a Two Wheeled Bike, aka (Bicycle), rather going back to the drawing table and doing fine.

If you are not careful, you will find yourselves riding on a (Tricycle) like a toddler travelling at 0.1 Kilometres Per Hour.

It’s always good to be confident in what we do or say. But it matters as well to have substantial calculations to back you up your objectives. What worked for Sata when he expelled his MP’s might not work for MMD.

Mind you Sata is PF and PF is Sata…….

  28. .
KK pulled off and boycotted elections in 1996, which brought up the demise of UNIP, when he should have just stepped down and allow someone else to stand on the UNIP Presidential Ticket.

However, as far as he was concerned he was the only (Exclusive) candidate for UNIP. Then he tried to usher his (sons) to take over as leader of UNIP, one who ended being killed on the way to the Promise Land.

Now we have Tilyenji Kaunda who goes into (Self Imposed Exiles), and only turns up a month before Presidential General Elections – expecting to get a majority vote and move into State House.

    Cont..

    • Don’t talk about issues you have no clue to. Major Wezi Kaunda just like Ronald Penza where killed by professionals because wezi was becoming like his father and penza refused to cave in to the stealing of government coffers by chiluba’s government. Leave Dr Kaunda and his family out of this because it was not Dr Kaunda who opted to stand but the zambians that insisted he should after experiencing briefly chiluba’s tyran, but was blocked by a dwarf in the name of multipartism.

  29. .
Above all PF are failing nearly on all election promises, MMD just need to capitalise using that “Collapsing Trend ” and win back the youth vote. Those that are 15yrs – 18yrs now will be voting in 2016

The old guards of Zambia already know who Sata is. He can no longer wind-hook most of the old guards.

  30. The expelled MPs will go to court and they will serve untill the end of their terms. Remember the PF rebel MPs?????????? MMD numbers keep reducing in parliament and Mumba cant realise that his party is headed for doom with him as presido

  31. # INDEPENDENT OBSERVER, very good observations and fair analysis. I am waiting for some more good analysis from # BR MUMBA Sr, #MMD Chief Bootlicker and #Senior Citizen.

  32. I think Nevers is falling into Satas’ plan. Hold fire for a while, Sata knew from the start that these MMD MPs would be expelled from the party to force by-elections in the hope that PF might win some of them to gain a majority. MMD need to play it cool to ensure checks and balances on PF activities. At present it’s not that easy for MMD to win out right, if there were by-elections I think these PF guys will unleash a big story that will push the MMD into oblivion. Take it easy MMD

  33. There is nothing more disgusting than a politician whose only facial hair is a white beard!

  34. This Ex-Pastor, does he really know what he is doing. Our Nyandule diaperman is already salivating as he will field candidates where he feels he can win. Pact or no pact. Its a pity the ex-pastor is forgetting that he was an opposition leader when he was appointed VP.

  35. Whatever it take, MMD or UPND will not marshall 51+1 % as it shall stand in the constitution. Unless MMD and UPND merge, they will go nowhere. But who will be ready between Nevers and HH to serve under the other? This is still a big question. It remains very remote now but its urgly head will surface sooner rather than later. On their own both can’t dwindle PF, its a giant. We shall one day witness a re-run of election when all the three fail to get the 50+1 % vote. This is no joke. If PF works well on its programmes with all people in the various districts become empowered it will be tough lack for MMD or UPND. One of them will be for the dust bin, like UNIP.
    UPND: 26.76%, 25.32%, 19.70%, 18.17%;
    MMD: 28.69%, 42.98%, 40.09%, 35.42%;
    PF:  3.35% – 29.37% – 38.13% – 41.9

  36. OMG.Are those MPs specifically serving PF or the people of Zambia. So Myopic.MMD goes down like his former party.MMD never again ,many many Nevers .How do you use emotions to solve a simple problem. This is why Sata out smarts them

  37. Do you think Nevas is portraying Christianity? For me thus being selfish minded because he is just looking forward to be come a president without considering how much money the government has to loose for conducting elections at the expense of his selfish will. Zambian politicians it is high time we looked at real issues other than being selfish minded. And Nevas is claiming to be a christian! God help us.

  38. Iwe bwana Mumba this move is beyond stupid. How is serving your country being seen as indiscipline? I see signs of an autocratic leadership style in you.

  39. Even us pentecostal bishops are shocked by the behaviour of our friend-Nevours. Catholics vote for their own but when Our pastor stood for presidential , not even one of his flock voted for him……why? Selfish pastor. Kano nga ebo!!!! Shame!!!!!

  40. This guy tried to an MP but failed. He tried to be President but failed……now he wants to destroy our party!!! Get out !!!

  41. Benny Mwiinga, Levy, Chiluba, chitalu sampa and other MMD founders are turning in their graves!! Who brought this evil man upon our party,,,,,,,God help us.
Ifffiiiiii I was alive,,, i ee i will not allow thissssi man to lead our party!

  42. Maybe the law should be revised to state that opposition MP’s can only be appointed to serve by the ruling Govt with consent from the Sponsoring opposition Party, a non compete agreement can be put in place and there should be performance monitoring of the services being rendered by the MP to the Zambians by the Sponsoring opposition Party. Secondly as others have observed cabinet ministers need to be appointed from outside parliament to avoid such issues. Thirdly as others have been advocating for in order to avoid Bye elections when an Mp resigns, expelled etc,the second runner up should automatically qualify as Mp.

  43. All you morons, those ministers are not serving public but their own pockets! Where have you seen a opposition minister campaigning for the pf govt denouncing his own party! This is indiscipline of the highest order! Its better you serve in govt but retain your loyalty to the club you belong that is discipline and maturity! They stopped attending party meetings long time ago because they are ministers, what a joke!!

  44. For those criticizing MMD please provide alternative measures that MMD should apply to the MP’s if they are not being loyal to their party, yes everyone is agreeing that service should be to the Zambians first but maybe we need to be discussing alternative measures that MMD should take.

  45. Ba Nevers. Thats the end of MMD. remember how MMD itself finished PF by taking on 22 rebel MPs. That really worked against Sata and he was only saved by the frustrations Zambian s had in the MMD government. I don’t see the same luck with MMD this time round. Fili uko tuleya.

  46. Pastor Mumba chase these guys they should learn to be disciplined like UPND MPS .no politics of the belly

  47. Leave Nevers alone, they Man is clean as compared to liars and pathetic theft, Sudan trips for winyter will turn against Pocket feeder (PF) wait and see. we dont need members to betray our party MMD for Life. dont support parties with thick headed leader,

  48. In a multiparty system of government, MPs from the opposition party can serve in the ruling govt unless they contavene some party rule. We encourage that in Zambia. William Sebastian Cohen (born August 28, 1940) an author and American politician from the U.S. state of Maine. A Republican, Cohen served as both a member of the United States House of Representatives and Senate, and as Secretary of Defense (1997–2001) under Democratic President Bill Clinton.

  49. Good Mumba, after all UKWA had rebel MPs. Moreover two cannot walk together unless they be agreed. Can light mingle with darkness?? nay.

  50. iwe mumba how can u think like that!! do you know that u are playing with fire you should think b4 u act ukashala weka lobe….

  51. This hypocrital pharisee cannot even win an parliamentary seat anywhere or Chinsali for that matter. In a lot of ways he is like BY( a “president” who could not muster a parliamentary seat in his home village Nchelenge. And Nevers is busy threatening those who won with expulsion. The Muchinga victory has gone to his head and as usual he is hyper-excited. I do not see MMD retaining any seats in the by elections. Only PF and UPND will gain.

  52. Bangwele imwe let Mumba fire these 9 MPs for we want the seats to go to PF so that MMD is closed ala imwe.

  53. Now RB has started to pull the strings for bankrolling Nevers ascendancy to the presidency of MMD. The effect will be similar to KK’s hanging in with UNIP or Chiluba’s plans to control the MMD from behind using strings through a supossedly senile LPM. Watch this Space

  54. That’s typical Mumba ..The Opportunist …will never change same as he was since he was junior pastor Ku Ndeke, Kiwe…ma rubbish…Mumba hahahah you a joke…

  55. So many of them. Ben Bernanke appointed by George Bush is still the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank. Most of the generals serving are still from the Bush era. Nevers is basically the Judah Iscariot of this era and may God forgive him. He was appointed as an opposition leader of a party to become Vice President of the MMD. Yangu tata ba Sunday Mwila ifyo mwaufishe umwana kuli mpelwa amana kapoli uy! As we say in bemba “munshebwa aile namashinshya kubuko. Anyway, except for those that do not known Nevers Mumba. He has been shyster from the time he became a pastor. Well come to the club MMD.

  56. All you people writing here you lack forsight and need a little intelligence  what Mumba has seen is that MMD is still capable winning some of seats back going with what just happened in muchinga when kunda won  The strategy here is to try and get more mps in parliament and then under mine cnp  if thery can get majority in parliament . then in case of a motion of impeachment ba sata nishi kuya bebele! strategy on the other hand Sata apponted those as a strategy too! think outside the box

  57. Dont think low if you expel them it is going to be a BIG LOSE to MMD and a Gain to PF Mind you the the number #1 Hijacker Hakainde (HH) win not let you HAVE THEM ALL but will give a condition than compile you to surrender 2 or 3 like he did for a livingstone, FOR it was held by your member so you should have alowed your member to stand. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW HIS TRUE COLOURS LET HIM SURRENDER ONE SEAT TO MMD LIKE WHAT WE DID TO LIVINGSTONE. CONSIDER THE RESULTS ON THE JUST END BY -ELECTION IN CHAMA there was no pact. MMD UPND PACT IS JUST WORKABLE IN FAVOUR OF UPND WHO IS INCREASING THE NUMBER OF SEATS.

  58. Kaunda should have not come back to stand. He was simply trying to stay even with Chiluba. To put it simply, KK finished UNIP because he never wanted anyone else but his son to take over. What was KK going to do different after being in power for 27yrs. Its sad how Wezi Kaunda died but the father was trying to fast track him to power but the 1991 uprise stopped KK’s dream. Sorry, I could not just resist comments from Independent Observer and Coachez.

  59. Pastor Mumba, Pastor Mumba. I hope you are reading this or your spokes person. Firstly, be reminded and realize that you will not become President. Yes, you may have won one by election by that election was won by Howard due to the popularity of his father’s name and due to people knowing you. The focus should be on re branding the party and not destroying it. What you are doing will further weaken the MMD. My point of this commentary is that you are not as popular as you think.

  60. NO MATTER WHAT COMES MY WAY,I’LL NOT VOTE FOR MUMBA!
COZ HE WAS IN OPPOSITION WHEN HE WAS MADE VICE PRESIDENT AND THEN,IT WAS NOT INDISPLINE!

  61. PASTOR MUMBA WAS MADE VICE -PRESIDENT WHEN HE WAS PRESIDENT OF ANOTHER PARTY. WAS IT OPPORTUNISM OR SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE? ZAMBIANS ARE SEEING WHAT HE MEANT. WE ARE OBSERVING.

  62. It’s funny how we Zambians seem to have a short memory.Did’t Sata do the same when the late Mwamawasa appointed some of the PF in his government?

    • Just because Sata did it does not mean Mumba should do it. Sata did and PF had an advantage because at that moment many people were sympathetic  with PF. But now, Mumba will do it to the disadvantage of MMD and the opposition.

  63. It’s funny how we Zambians seem to have a short memory.Did’t Sata do the same when the late Mwamawasa appointed some of the PF MP’s into  government?

  64. Thank u chi Nervous Breakdown, I hear u got fits. All the 9 seats will go to the tribal party PF. And PF thanks to the cigar man as it is u are heading toward big confusion. PF has no agenda for Zambia. Next the wife will be appointed minister.

  65. Thank u chi Nervous Breakdown, I hear u got fits. All the 9 seats will go to the tribal party PF. And PF thanks to Mata the cigar man as it is u are heading toward big confusion. PF has no agenda for Zambia. Next the wife will be appointed minister.

  66. Is Dr Mumba in order to threaten MPs? I need a serious rulling bloggers. Isn’t this the same man who was appointed Vice President of Zambia when he was in the opposition? Before he can be seeen to be wise let him tell the nation why he accepted the appointment.

This is too much a talk show.

  67. Sata’s behaviour in the last nine months, has subjected his government to harsh criticism around the world, and this has resulted in an erosion of PF’s international image, and this is exacting a tangible strategic price on the PF government. Sata’s desire to destroy the opposition using systemic and systematic assaults serves as the ‘engine’ driving this criticism, which peaked with the suspension of three Judges and forced retirement of the Chief Justice and a senior member of the supreme court. Criticism of Sata’s despotic regime is within legitimate discourse and MMD  must be willing to defend democracy and the civil liberties.

  68. if these guys have been appointed to serve in the government, they are required to follow the rules of the Government and not of some party !!!! Nevers came from another party too when he served as vise president, what is wrong with that ? I guess its alright for him and not others !!!!
