Zambia Federation of Employers ‘scores first goal’ in court on minimum wage battle

Share

The Zambia Federation of Employers has been granted leave to start judicial review proceedings on the revised minimum wage by the High Court.

But the court has refused to stay the statutory instrument which effected the new minimum wage.

The verdict comes on account of the application for judicial review filed by the Zambia Federation of Employers, yesterday.

Judge Mubanga Kondolo has set September, 10, for an inter-party hearing of the application for judicial review.

In the application, the Federation wants the Court to quash the implementation of the new minimum wage.

The Federation contends that the move to implement the revised minimum wage was illegal because not all the trade unions were consulted.

The federation also claims the decision was irrational as it has had negative consequences.

It also claims that a number of job loses have been reported.

  1. viva the judiciary and the executive lolololollallallallallallalallalalalalallalalala,my legs in my pockects

  2. We are praying that the out come should go in favor of the interest of the people of Zambia and national security.

    • ZFE are representing Employers that give jobs to Employees where unions are made.Remember,without an employer,there are no employees hence NO UNIONS.

  3. The Boshvics should win! Remember 1915-1917 during the Czarist Russia, the Menshvics lost. More money in the pockets.

  4. But the court has refused to stay the statutory instrument which effected the new minimum wage. Why???????? Are they fearing Uncle Mandevu or his shabby looks. I just cant understand this! Problem – the Executive is full of dunderheads and use the jungle law all the time since they are from the streets themselves and by chance they are in power. I rest my case!

  5. ZFE ceased to represent the downtrodden, poor, underpaid workers of Zambia. It is now the vehicle for a pompous egomaiac who has an imaginary score to settle with certain PF officials for making him look like the imbeci!e he in fact is on national TV.

    He laughs best who laughs last, so please continue howling you clueless hyenas.

    • @THREE ZEROS. It’s the employers that have been paying peanuts to their employees you muppet! So you would rather see the Zambian worker being paid slave wages just to benefit the ‘Fat Cat’ employers? Do you have a heart for your fellow Zambians?

  6. This will not go anywhere because the judiciary needs
    Reforms .Some judges especially in kafue are
    Promoting stealing bcoz of the way judges are handling cases.
    Viva judicial reforms.

  7. i support the govnt. we dont support our people. K522 000.00 is what we dont want to part away with. surely is this how we want to treat our own people. PF i support you on this

  8. People pliz ZFE does not represent the employees neither is it a union but it is a federation of employers meaning representing management of companies, pliz pipo school is very important otherwise takakulafuma CNP no sponpo

  9. I am in support of the lowest paid people in Zambia. I hope the irrelevant ZFE will lose this case, and learn their responsibilities towards other humans they have employed to make them look good in public places.

  10. The new minimum wage revision is fine except the whole process has been poorly managed by govt. Hence these selfish employers claim they don’t have money to pay new wages but are now paying trillions of kwacha to navigate a labyrinth of unnecessary legal caterwauling to save their skins.
    Shame on you ZFE

  11. Sad state of affairs, how can someone live on less than K500,000 this is just diabolical, let’s support our government on this one chaps!!

  12. ZFE want to make 100% profits at the expense of the majority poor Zambians. Who is going to redeem us if our own people can not?. Please can someone make a budget from K500, 000 for a family of three.

    • Mealie Meal = K50,000
      Chisense + Chinkondia = K50,000
      Alcohoh = K300,000
      Rent = K60,000
      Other = K40,000
      Nkongele = -K200,000

      This will do for a budget. I little bit of thought here and there, and this chap can get out of his own mess. People should not rely on minimum wage. They should make their own dough.

  13. i listned to joice simukoko bad language on TV, I wonder if she has children…he can be a bad example for the women folk.

    • And you assume all bloggers here listened to her?Tell us what she said then we can judge whose who’s got bad land language between you and her.

  14. #14 & 15 Its not that we feel k522,000 is to high.Its the ability to pay it thats a problem. It is very clear that most of the people employing maids and shop assts will lay off their workers because they won’t afford to pay those wages.Therefore these maids will go from K300,000 to Zero.WHO IS FOOLING WHO? Shamenda claims he is concerned about these poor people that is why he has revised the wages which is a wrong way of doing it since he does not pay them and he didn’t consult the wage payers. If his govt is caring as he claims let them pay all the loafers unemployment benefits(like all civilised govts do) of K522,000 then every one will say his govt is caring.If he is not paying then inflation will go up,jobs will be lost,cost of production will go up,etc. all gains will be lost.

    • Iceberg look at the other side of the coin as well; If you fire your maid then you can’t go to work because there will be no one to take care of your children. So the argument of firing is out. just pay the minimum wage kwasila. Vo yofyana kulibe.

  15. Iceberg. Are you really serious? I have seen people walking from Ngombe compound to Town and other areas just to get to work either as maids or shop assistants because they can not afford to get on a mini bus. In the mean time the Fat Cats they work for can easily afford to pay them more than the minimum wage. Lets have a heart for our fellow Zambians

  16. The move on minimum wage was positive. What Unions could to use minimum wage as bargaining chip to elevate the salaries for its workers to thevel that the equation balances. Actually if I one;s basic salary in say 3M, employs a Maid & 2 to four children, it worksout that, an increase to double that factors could well benefit all instead of one group. Zambia has lots of money but for one reason its in the hands of a selfish few like Liato, RB, and his co-horts & those other thieves. There in no big deal, look at the commission being set, and those set by RB how much money did they waste and still wasting on constitution?
    It was unbelievable to hear that one seating was attracting more than K500,000 per person (Commissioner) and you ZFE you say there is no money??Rediculous..Go to HELL

    • l support you ,the same chap Chibanda sits on more than 5 boards and speaking to contribute where in most cases intelligent ,well learned and nurtured managers,director observe and trotting around from one meeting to another getting the said allowances.

  17. Yes those Ng’ombe chaps will no longer be walking to work because they will just rote at home doing nothing. Maybe the street is the answer for them since PF (Proven Failures) like and enjoys anarchy and street vending. Nchito yasila pitani kwanu!
    And what makes some of you think that after the increment those Ng’ombe chaps will also start driving like their bosses. Be serious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I rest my case!

  18. Great web site. A lot of helpful info here. I am sending it to some buddies ans also sharing in delicious. And naturally, thank you to your effort!

  19. the problem is the calibre of the ED ,he is a very dull chap who thinks is bright and intelligent ,if removed ZFE can be in a position to play its significant role than he attempted to throw scone on the minister
