Government has cautioned civil servants not to stand in the way of development as it is in a hurry to develop the country.
ZANIS report that speaking during a tour of flood prone areas in Lusaka today, Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice President, Harry Kalaba said civil servants should ensure they work for what they get paid for warning that government will not tolerate any laziness.
He said it was important for all stakeholders like the Lusaka City Council, the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit and others to work hard and ensure the country has proper drainage systems to avoid floods this year.
The Deputy Minister said he had strict instructions from the President to ensure he pays back to Zambians for voting him into office adding that he knew no better way of doing that than to ensure this year’s rainy season does not affect anyone.
Mr. Kalaba said it was encouraging that the country had no cholera during last year’s rainy season although there was Typhoid.
He said it was necessary to put measures in place to guarantee that no water bone disease is recorded this year.
The Deputy Minister disclosed that plans are underway to expand the threshold that will enable quicker methods of releasing funds to contractors.
He said the current processes used in the previous government where contractors have to wait for months before funds are made available were time wasting and not ideal for the PF government which is in a hurry to develop the country.
The deputy minister toured Kanyama and Makeni areas to inspect the state of the drainage systems in the areas.

PF, please learn to dialogue with technocrats. Don’t caution, threaten nor rebuke. Just give appropriate direction to public policy and let the technocrats implement, monitor and evaluate, SIMPLE. Threatening mature people doesn’t work.

@ as instructed by the president and last year ,there was no cholera.CNP you have to wait for the president to tell you what to do? and for your ears only .This year there will be hell in cholera terms because of these street vendors you have late on the streets.instead of you trying to sort out drainage problems which have already been sorted by MMD ,try to arrange for more grave space in each town.
This government is full of jokers. They really love making empty pronouncements with a lot of hot air when in fact on the ground they have no plan. Talking yields nothing. Show the people your plan and they will respect you. If you talk like that, where all you do is issue threats, nobody will take you seriously. If you are committed to eliminating cholera by ensuring that we have proper drainage come rainy season, why have you allowed vendors in the streets? This is the source of garbage that is thrown indiscriminately. There are also no toilets for vendors to answer the call of nature. We shall see when the rains begin. This government always blames someone for anything. When are you going to begin working?

Yes civil servants are lazy because they were not given 100% pay rise that you awarded yourselves. For a civil servant 100% is just a mare less than K1m and you gave yourselves over K15m pay rise and you expect them not to be lazy. What’s in your head kanshi ? Any grey matter presence can really surprise me to say the least. Civil servants will always work as they earn – no more no less. I rest my case!
YES! THEY MUST HAVE A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY. NOT JUST HANGING YOUR JACKETS ON CHAIRS GIVING THE IMPRESSION THAT THE OFFICER IS IN THE OFFICE AND YET HE HAS GONE OUT TO RUN HIS/HER PERSONAL DURING OFFICE HOURS. BUT PUBLIC TOILETS IN TOWNS ARE ALSO NEEDED, TOO.
