Share

Police in Kafue have recovered K369 million cash sealed in a safe box which was stolen from a hardware shop in the early hours of yesterday.

Police deputy commissioner and commanding officer for Lusaka province Wazakaza Ng’uni confirmed the recovery of the money in a telephone interview with ZANIS in
Kafue.

Mr Ng’uni also disclosed that police have since apprehended three suspects in connection with the theft of the money.

The trio have since been remanded in custody and will appear in court soon.

The Lusaka province police chief said the money was stolen yesterday between 02.00
and 03.00  hours from Rako Hardware shop where thieves broke in using giant cutters
to gain entry.

He said the money was recovered in Zambia compound later in Kafue after police were
informed of the theft and immediately launched a manhunt to track down the culprits.

Mr. Ng’uni said the money which was in a safebox was found in a house in Kafue’s
Zambia compound intact and unopened where the thieves apparently put it for safe
keeping.

He said a Kafue woman and two Lusaka men have since been apprehended in connection
with the theft and investigations have continued.

Mr  Ng’uni also said two taxi cars have been detained by police which were used by the thieves and are parked at Kafue police station.

  1. hmmm… that explains why the money was discovered? the safe was sealed…! we all know what would have happened if the safe was not sealed… only a couple of thousands and ngwees would have been accounted for! great police work…. word of advise ” always move with a safe buster/cutter! cheers

  2. Hmmmmmm..sounds fishy!!!…r we sure ZP did’nt put it there after failing to open it????
    Only joking “well done ZP”!!!!

  3. sounds great. Looks like the police is somehow waking up from a deep slumber. Hope this will continue. Bravo!!!

  4. I think the ZP needs to improve it’s service to the public. We all know that even the Police failed to open the safe, hence it has been recovered. We all know how corrupt the Police Force is, and we have seen OPEN corruption of the Officer’s in front of the public.e.g. The Police will be chasing a minibus driver with passenger’s in it, and once caught, the driver ‘ll be let off once he has given some bribe to the cop.Meanwhile the Police officer had put the passenger’s lives at risk. I ‘ll not congratulate the Force, for it’s their duty to protect the public and reduce crime.

  5. ZP is full of criminals – They know most of the hard core criminals who are friennds with the CID’s and those antirobbery cops. Some of the guns used in these robberies are Police guns – hired out to criminal friends of course for a fee most probably.I think the force should be cleaned further.

  6. It is not in disputes that there are criminal elements in the police service just like any other public institution in Zambia. We should, however, give credit where it is due. They Police in Kafue did a great job to recover the money at hand.

Whether or not they failed to open the seal is mere speculation and fantasising.

  7. M Daka, we do not need to give credit for catching the criminals, it’s their duty to reduce crime. Ofcourse, failing to open the safe you know that it’s just a joke.

  8. MDaka, how well do you know ZP? its just that the box was well secured otherwise we would have heard stories today.Trully there is no need to thank them, its their duty to combat crime.Criminals and cops are friendly forces they know where to find these criminals. If your car is opened and the car stereo goes missing they will just tell you that let’s go to Chawama and true to their word you will find the stereo. What are we saying, there is still need to cleanse the ZP rid them of bad elements and continue to safe guard the interests of both citizens and business entities

  9. True, The cops know where to get these crooks, ok, what happened with Ringo Phiri with the K300 million he ran away with from Barclays in Ndola. The seals where opened and the Police where the first to fight over the money. Some Officer’s even quit immediately, other’s went to buy sausages. Tell it as it is. The cops in Zambia have failed us. They do not need or deserve any congratulations. If a person just goes to the police and wrongly accuses you, and bribes the cops for you to spend a night in the cells, they would do it. Is that the Force that deserves credit? A Force that has no regard for human life, chasing minibus driver’s in order to take home something for supper. The whole system just needs change.

  10. What I am stated relate to the story at hand. The recoverly of K360m. That is a lot of money and the police officers who recovered it deserve to be congaturated. It is not difficult to say well done to someone who has done a great job by recovering the huge amount of money at hand.

Granted, and as stated earlier, there are police officers who are criminally minded in our police service. This, however, does not mean every police officer is criminally minded. There are officers in our service who are upright. I can give an analogy of the rampant difilement cases in our country. The fact that defilement cases are common, does not mean that every man in Zambia is a difiler.

The other example I can give is where say someone’s son has not been excelling at school and his parents have lost faith in him vis a vis passing exams. Then to the surprise of his parents he passes a particular exam. Surely such a son deserve a pat on the back. It will motivate him to do even better the next time.

  11. Daka you are amazing , God bless you, dont complain too much, when a person makes a go at your comment its not meant to demean you in any form, these are opposing views you dont need to give all those examples cos how many times are you going to explain your point? Its not necessary ,just move on ,whenever there is a counter attack just proceed with something else.We know our cops better, they dont deserve any part or thankyou its their job. When you start justifying your comments its like being at the pulpit to explain the parable. You cannot be purer than pure, sure amayi Daka

  12. Ohhhh,am back, bantu…am sure most of u missed me!!!ZP,well done,my dear.Job well done.Even though there are criminals in ZP,and we all know it’s mega-corrupt,their reporting the case and not stealing it themselves is encouraging.GRZ should provide more funds for improving their conditions of work, increase their salaries so that they can be motivated to do their job well, and try by all means to stay uncorrupt. In the West,it’s kinda graet to be a law enforcement officer, while in Zed,law enforcement officers are viewed as pipo who gat no where else to go..even though they provide us such a great service…
    Congrats guys.

  13. The Man, nobody missed u!

Its is the duty of a policeman to arrest criminals and to maintain law and order in the country. So, M Data why thinking them? But if it were a Headmaster or a nurse reporting those criminals to police then I would sing and praise the Headmaster. M Daka, do you see the point?

  14. Am sure nima Indians that is why Mugabe sorted them out when he wanted to control money flow, you wonder why these characters like keeping money in homes no wonder they engage themselves in satanism.

  15. Good Jobs dear cops.Thats not an easy task.Weldone.
Please handle your duties with that GOOD spirit.
    Don’t forget,
You have a huge task more than the task force itself hahahahaha.
Now curb piracy dear responsible citizens.
Thanx for keeping the country a trusted Zambia.
    Cheers and God bless
