Sudan Pull Out of Friendly with Uganda

Share

Uganda Cranes’ preparations for the Nations Cup qualifier against Zambia suffered a set-back after Sudan pulled out of a friendly scheduled for this weekend in Kampala.

Unconfirmed reports indicate the Sudanese have instead opted for a friendly against a West African country.

Cranes coordinator Crispus Muyinda confirmed the development to SuperSport.com. “It is true the friendly is off but I have not yet got all the details.”

This once again leaves Cranes to face Zambia in the Nations Cup qualifier on October 13 without playing any international friendly.

This is not the first time Cranes’ scheduled friendlies are called off at the 11th hour this year. A friendly against Egypt was aborted in the run-up to Angola and one away to Malawi fell through before Uganda travelled to Zambia for the first leg.

But Cranes coach Bobby believes this will not affect the team’s preparations. “I don’t think it will,” he said, “We’ll just continue working with these guys and keep on improving.

“We’ll have another game against local opposition, probably the under 23s, before the Zambia game and see how it goes. We should have it probably Saturday or Sunday.”

The Cranes continue training at the Namboole side pitch ahead of the crucial game next weekend.

They will have to score two without reply against the African champions to qualify for the 2013 Nations Cup in South Africa.

  1. Good luck to you Uganda. Its because you think Zambia will be sleeping for you to do that. Ask Countries that have fallen at the hands of Zambia in that kind of a situation? This game will be 2-1 in favor of Uganda but because of that 1 goes we shall score, Zambia will be through to go and defend the Cup in South Africa.

  2. You zambians are making such confident comments because you dont know NAMBOOLE. In seven long years the cranes has not lost a match against any opposition. I am saving my 40,000 uganda shillings for my match ticket and i will post back here after the match.

  3. Zambia SHOULD not claim to underrate Uganda. we are the African Champs. we need to be in RSA to defend the CUP. preparation should be key. Sudan beat us 2 – 0. That is the reason Uganda picked on them for preps. It was a Good Strategy by Uganda though havent worked. Naambole has a history but Zambia should prepare to break that History and break Uganda hearts.

  4. Zambia had a long record of about 15 years of not losing a game at Independence Stadium until Angola beat Zambia. The issue of uganda not having lost at home in seven years is not a strong determinant of the outcome of the game against Zambia, it is how well Zambia prepares and executes its strategy on the material day. i will give an example of Zambia’s past record, Zambia had not beaten DRC at its home ground until The Late Ben Bamfuchile prepared the team well, never lost a game in qualifiers and ended up at the Africa Cup at the expense of DRC. Zambia if they are champions worth their salt, they should deliver come 13 October 2012. My Prediction, Zambia 2 Uganda 0, Aggregate Zambia 3 Uganda 0!

    • You’ve just taken the words out of my mouth. If not losing a Namboole is their mortivating factor, then NOT failing to qualify for the cup of nations for many years will be our mortivating factor. However, I believe records are there to be broken hence come October 13th Namboole stadium, Kampala and the whole Uganda will be silent.

  5. Good prediction Teddy Sadakah though the real score shall be Uganda 3 Zambia 1 and therefore Cranes to play in SA come 2013.

    • I am a South African who has been following soccer played in Zambia and Uganda. My advice to Zambia is not to underate Uganda. Zambians should not be over-confident especially against a team like Uganda. I watched the Uganda game against Nigeria and Uganda boasting of only three professionals then, ran rings around the Nigerians in Namboole. The Nigerians had no breathing space and their German coach Berti Vogts could not believe what was happening. I asked myself whether I was watching the real Kanu, Utaka, Obafermi Martins, Taye Taiwo, Odemwingie, Joseph Yobo, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Mikel John Obi and the rest chasing shadows. So Zambians should not underate Uganda expecially in Namboole. Uganda can humiliate any soccer powerhouse in Namboole. Let the best team win on that day.

  6. Is it Uganda who will be playing or its their rotten Namboole stadium??? Ugandans are a let down, they thnk Namboole will win them anythng, besides Afcon will never be held in Uganda so wats their goal??? Real under fives in football. Zambia 2 : 1 Uganda final aggregate. Watch this space,.

  7. The Zambians have no choice but to humble themselves and play the game in Namboole. Whether it is rotten, dilapidated or not, the game is on in Namboole. No amount of Zambian noise will stop the game from being played in Namboole. Who tells some Zambians in their wet dreams that Zambia will ever host the AFCON. I think some Zambians are taking their madness very far. Apart of Levy Mwanawasa Stadium which is still a baby, which other stadium can they convince CAF to give them rights to host AFCON, Even the local stadiums in Uganda are better than Lusaka independence stadium, Nkoloma etc. Just a few weeks ago, SUPERSPORT bemoaned the state of Zambia’s stadia state and most Stadia were not camera-friendly for televising live soccer matches.

  8. By the way, Zambians should just concentrate on the game and leave Namboole stadium alone. Five days before the game, there will be a Christian overnight prayer in the stadium. So if Zambians want to make noise, they should prepare to make more noise and write more letters to CAF but after the grass has been trampled by the worshippers and born-agains, Zambia will step on the same grass to play the Cranes. Watch this space, Uganda Cranes 5- Cheap Polopolo 0.

  9. I am a South African who has been following soccer played in Zambia and Uganda. My advice to Zambia is not to underate Uganda. 10. My threat at AFCON 2013 Final is Zambia’s Chipololo. They are unpredictable and hide in shadows. Ugandans hope you will go with more than 100 cranes on the pitch to lift the Zambians up. I am Ghanian living in South Africa.

  11. I am Malawian in USA but Zambia should talk less because they will be forced to swallow their words. Uganda is not a walk over in Namboole and Zambians should put their side their over-confidence and concentrate on the game. On a good day, a determined Cranes can humiliate you whether you are an african champion or not. Zambia is an African Champion but they should remember what happened to Egypt when they failed to qualify and defend their title in Gabon. Ghana has faced humiliation twice in Namboole and when the Zambians sing that they beat Ghana, I do not get what they are saying when Cranes has beaten Ghana in Namboole twice. So beating Ghana does not mean that it will be a walk over Uganda. Uganda 3- Zambia 0. Zambians and world-over will be shocked on October 13th.

  12. Zambia can be African Champions but it will be a pity if they don’t defend their title in South Africa. Now is their time to lose and stop calling themselves African Champions. I can see an AFCON without Zambia. I am flying from USA to Uganda this week to watch the match because it is gonna be explosive in Namboole. Every Ugandan is determined to see Zambia dumped and the morale is high in the Cranes camp that started training two weeks ago and have entered residential training today. Every Ugandan player wants to silence the big-mouthed Zambians and preparations to silence the Zambians are in high gears. Let the games begin and we cap our 50 year independence celebrations in style.

  13. We Zambians have never underestimated our opponents. We always work hard to earn our victories. We never depend on reputation, records or referees. We beat the best to be African Champs. We play better away from home. We have a fox as our coach. We respect our opponents, but we know how to put them in their place. When they talk hard they play into our hands coz the harder they come, the harder they fall! Iye!!!!!!!!!! chipolopolo

  14. am a zambian living in kampala.ya uganda is a strong side esp at home. and there is a rumor here in kampala that zambia faked at afcon to be champion. uganda we are waiting for you for fake at nabole. we understand you are a strong side just like any other team that plays with zambia. do yourselves a fever and wait for the match, let the best team win. at the end of the day sccer is determined after 90 minutes. let the 90 minutes give us the answer. chipolopolo you can win again.

  15. ZAMBIANS, It’s a pity U’ll miss U’re star Rainford Kaleba bt I hop U dont take it as an excuse as U loose my prediction is 3-0 in faver of Uganda Cranes, as we ar celebrating a golden jubilee we shall also celebrate qualification and the following year the golden trophy all is given by GOD and thanks to HIM
