Sports minister Chishimba Kambwili says Zambia will be a laughing stock if they don’t qualify to the 2014 World Cup after FIFA awarded them the three points.
Kambwili was speaking en route to Zambia from Kampala on Saturday that expectations were high after winning the verdict over Sudan using an ineligible player in their opening Group D qualifier on June 2.
“It will be very unreasonable for us to fail to qualify after we have been given those three points by FIFA for Sudan using an unregistered player,” Kambwili said.
Zambia lost 2-0 away to Sudan in a game Salif Ali was ineligible to play while he was serving a suspension.
Sudan have since appealed the verdict.
“We have to do everything possible in our powers to qualify otherwise we will be a laughing stock,” Kambwili said.
“And as you can see the PF government has come with great luck and am convinced beyond reasonable doubt that we are definitely we going to qualify.
“And you know that when Zambia plays these small and struggling teams we seem to have a problem.
“You know in the World Cup qualifiers we have the big boys and we will be able to leave up to the expectations of the Zambian people.”
Should Zambia finish top of Group D they will advance to the final qualifying stage next October with nine other respective group winners.
The 10 teams will be paired in home and away ties with the five winners qualifying to the Brazil finals in June, 2014.

Minister Of Soccer Chishimba Kambwili. This guys always opens his mouth only when it comes to soccer, does he know that his also the minister of other sports? We cant only concentrate on one sport in the country while the other sports are dying. Already we have that Phiri boy who did well at the Olympics what is this government doing in enhancing Athletics in the country? Am sure that would be a complicated question to the minister of Soccer.
Kambwili is right, we need to beat Ghana at home to dispel the myth that sheer luck is all that does it for us! The only hinderrance we have to winning convincingly is our COACH. The team has proper material with whom to deliver any success, but the enemy lies in a coach who doesnt undertand how to use his players. He also seems to to an unwritten rule on certain players NOT BEING REPLACED EVEN WHEN THEY ARE USELESS ON THE DAY!!
Chipolopolo is already a laughing stock because of not being consistent, everytime the coach says we played badly, when are you going to play better???
This BUFFOON Kambwili should just pull a sock on it….already he has dished out $2000 extra to 22 players for an appalling display. That money would have been better used in track and field sport disciplines who are in need of resources.

One thing I do know is that the President, Ministers and State House officials often read online blogs when they are abroad; I’m appealing to them to clap down on this Chishimba Kambwili. How long are we going to keep up with this buffoonery….this is not fitting of a minister. Please let him concentrate on his Roan constituency.
Very few footballers have degrees, just shows the people that follow it, I doubt anyone that has commented here, if they have a grade 12 certificate certainly they did not get as good points as I did 19 points in 6 subjects at Grade 12, without leakage

HOWEVER, MY PERSONAL OBSERVATION WHY ZAMBIA PERFORMS POORLY IS THAT THE RE-GROUPING AND TRAINING PERIOD FOR THE NATIONAL TEAM IS ALWAYS VERY SHORT. IT LEAVES NO TIME FOR PLAYERS TO ACQUAINT WITH ONE ANOTHER. INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS PLAY DIFFERENT STYLES ADOPTED FROM THEIR CLUB TEAMS. SO, THEY NEED AT LEAST A MONTH’S PREPARATION TO COMPROMISE ON ONE STYLE AND STRATEGY. A FEW DAYS B4 THE MATCH IS JUST LAUGH. AGAIN, AS SOMEONE HAS ALREADY OBSERVED- DON’T JUST CONCENTRATE ON SOCCER. THERE ARE MANY SPORTING ACTIVITIES TO MIND, TOO.
I agree with you on some points BUT one month making preparation yards little .. I do remember few years ago they left In december for preparations for AFCON .. But they were iliminated in the group stage. 2. They belong to clubs who can’t allow them to stay away for a month while their clubs will be strangling to win the matches in their absence. English premier leagues are unhappy to see off their players heading to AFCON. NewCastle is happy its Senegalese players failed to go to 2013 AFCON .. Manchester City will suffer as the Toure brothers will be out for a month long .. Thanks :)

Kambwili should be talking about provisions for team camping rather than to predict FIFa world cup win. Do we have players for such a task. I am not a pessimist! But we are not there yet.
