Trade Kings Zambia popularly known as Kafue Steel Plant plans to create 6,000 jobs for the local residents by 2015.
Kafue Steel Plant general manager Siraj Chenia has disclosed that the company targets to create about 6,000 jobs by the time the plant reaches its final phase in 2015.
Mr. Chenia said the company currently employs 1,200 workers and plans to continue employing more people until the final phase of the plant is reached were it targets to create the 6,000 job opportunities.
He said the company plans to create more jobs for the locals as a way of empowering Kafue residents hence boosting the economic status of the district.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Chenia said this when Kafue District Commissioner Grace Ngulube visited the plant to familiarise herself with the operations of the company.
He further said as part of the company’s social responsibility it plans to construct a sports complex in the district in order to promote sporting activities in the area.
Mr. Chenia has since appealed to the DC to help the company acquire a piece of land for the construction of a sports complex which will help keep youths away from engaging themselves in bad vices such as drug abuse.
Mr. Chenia said plans are also under way to construct a top class medical facility in the district with support from its cooperating partners to ease the pressure at Kafue District Hospital.
He said the company is purely owned by Zambians and will reinvest its profits in the country and also plans to plough back to the community through various empowerment projects such as a skills training centre for local people among others.
And Kafue District Commissioner (DC)Grace Ngulube said government welcomes any investor that supplements its efforts in bringing development in the country through job creation.
Ms Ngulube has also welcomed the move by Trade Kings to construct a sports complex and medical facility saying these would go a long way in benefiting people in the district.
She said she will seek an audience with the council to see the way forward over the land needed for the sports complex project.
Ms Ngulube stated that government is in a hurry to bring development in the country hence it was ready to support investors with progressive ideas of developing respective areas where they operate in.

This is the company behind the popular Boom washing powder of the 90s and then the company further fast expanded into other products such as soya and confectionery…products rapidly became the leading brands in country and soon started penetrating five export markets in the region including Malawi, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Congo, RSA and further afield. The company has now diversified into steel and they have become a major exporter in the product.
We should applaud this company and give it all the support it needs in its expansion plans only the private sector will create jobs and develop Zambia.

Jaya Jay, thank you for updating me on the developments in Kafue. Way back in the early 70’s we used to refer to Kafue as the “Boom Town”. This is when NCZ & Kafue Textiles was built. True enough there was a lot of activity in Kafue town at the time. Thank God things are begining to get better for Kafue and once again I can see a good life for the residents especially once the sports complex, medical facility, and skills training center are established. We must give a thumbs up to Trade Kings Zambia for what they are doing to uplift the living standard of the residents of Kafue town.

I also forgot to mention that this company is wholly Zambian owned but has a diverse management team and is based in RSA where it has a big market.(Stand to be corrected)Â
It’s a good move and thank God people of Kafue can look beyond Mazabuka for employement in the cane fields. 6,000 jobs sounds to be far fetched from where am standing. Unless they are talking about engaging people in collecting and picking metal scrap an counting them as employees?
It looks as though the indrect jobs are being recognised but 6,000 is quite a large number and i would reserve my opinion.

That does not look like a serious steel plant. Looks like a warehouse for steel items from other countries. I worked for Mittal steel in here in SA and I know what I am talking about.
#15 Robert Nesta Marley. Do you need to shoot down anything coming out of our beloved country. The fact is this group of companies have done extremely well. It is truly Zambian. It may not be of Mittal standards BUT it is A STEEL COMPANY IN KAFUE. I live in SA but Zambia is my country and is really moving in a right direction.
This company claims to have employed 1,200 local personnel? is it true? how come the impact is not felt in Kafue? When Albidon Mines was in operations up to 2009 March, there was alot of change in terms of job and wealth creation and yet Albidon had less than 400 employees shared between Mazabuka and Kafue. Probably the 1,000 employees this company is talking about are Indians from Punjab and the 4,000 people he is talking about in 2015 could as well be Indians from Calikuta, wait and see
