Emmanuel Mayuka’s arrival at Zambia’s camp in Johannesburg has been overshadowed with the dropping of goalkeeper Kalililo Kakonje.
Kakonje has been dropped by Herve Renard just days before the Frenchman names his final 23-member team for the 2013 Africa Cup.
The Zambia number two goalkeeper has been replaced by Red Arrows goalkeeper Daniel Munyau.
Munyau has already joined the team and trained with the team on Monday.
The Arrows goalkeeper was earlier omitted from the 26-member provisional team in December even after playing the 90 minutes in Zambia’s 1-0 away loss to Tanzania on December 22.
Meanwhile, Mayuka landed in Johannesburg on Monday morning to complete the roll of call-ups.
Both Mayuka and Munyau will be available for selection on Tuesdays in Zambia’s friendly against Morocco at Rand Stadium.
Zambia will be looking for a reversal of fortunes after three successive friendly defeats at the hands of Angola, Tanzania and Saudi Arabia.
Zambia’s last win came on November 14 in a the 2012 Nelson Mandela Challenge against South Africa at Soccer City in Johannesburg that Renard’s side won 1-0.
Go guys i know you will butcher them all, you are just trying to make them you dont have game, but i know you are bad! lets go do them more damage!
I have always said that Kakonje,s day are over and i had always wondered why Renard kept calling him up for national duties despite his poor performance records been in public domain for longtime, even at club level is below par. we wait to see who else should be dropped i bet it will be Noah Chivuta and Felix Katongo.
Dunder heads like you know nothing about football. Do you realise that Felix Katongo is one of the fine penalty takers Zambia has and without him you would not have won AFCON and later on qualify to AFCON 2013. You should learn to spot utility and strategic players. Felix will be there in the final 23
hmmmmnmmmm? Chivuta is better than Chris Katongo, fantastic team player.
Go Chipolopolo, Go!
I will bet my last ngwee if renard will drop felix, thats his blue eyed boy.
Long overdue indeed
Kakonje has gained too much weight
you people James chamanga what has he done for this nation and on what ground is the selection based on he has never done us proud so why having him in the squad.
he is very generous came rain come shine she is featured as a sub or a starter
i totally agree, has he even ever scored a vital goal in a crucial game?
In the modern game you need a mix of forwards. Chamanga is a handfull to defend against given his size and mobility. He also holds the ball well and thereby letting fellow strikers free. He should remain in the team.
Kankonje is Chris Katongo’s best friend, and if Felix is dropped too, then moral in team will be terrible, because the captain will be extra mad at everybody. Some players are there as companions to others.
Amazing, no comment on Mayuka, maybe its good thing for the young-man. Mayuka has a huge tasks to redeem himself.
All I want this time around is Mbesuma to be 2013 AFCON top scorer. Please mbuya, atweende, I’m praying for your name to admirably be in the AFCON history books.
Mayuka, balange abena Lambert!
Felix Katongo’s performance has been below expectation in the last games after AFCON 2012, besides the boy is rowdy. James Chamanga is also suspect. But where is Fwayo Tembo and Rodger Kola?
the battle is won way back from witnesses, Katongo go with the dont kubeba stile tubadabwisha ba Ethopia,Nigeria and bukanababies.
Zambia won the afcon by sheer lucky. this tym around they hav to prove it.
Teyabola, if Zambia won the afcon by sheer lucky, they will win it again this year. Reason: I, the provider of sheer luck, wishes them sheer luck!
Best wishes Chipolopolo!!!!! Do not listen to the sheer luck nonsense. These people are just jealous of y’r success.
Having seen Mayuka start last weekend at SOTON, I am wondering if he is not overrated for this season? The boy cant run and cant keep good passing positions for midfielders to find it easy to get the ball to him. He also doesn’t run back to the back-line often…why? Can a soccer expert please advise..i could be judging the boys abilities harshly here.
Judging Mayuka on the basis of the few minutes under his belt in the EPL would be unfair. The English games has so many dos and don’ts such that many a talented player takes times to find their rythm in the games. Mayuka is a great talent. And he will go far. He can score from many an acute angle too.
I said it, Chivuta and Kokonje are not Zambia’s cream. Even the Zone 6 goalie is far much better than Kalililo. The boy has been lucky, chewing money lutuuuuu… Let him go for good pliz. Jacob Banda should be considered for future games. Good luck Chipolopolo coz this tym it will be harder than last time.
Hope this doezn’t cauze tension and anxiety in camp. Kakonje and a coupla others of the 2012 victorios team should not have been included in the provisional squad, but looks like HR just wants to uze only the boiz of the Eqt. Guinea/Gabon outing. Of the last year’z team 4, 5 even 6 playerz(with due respect) needed to be left out completely. Some of the winning playerz will have nothing to prove or aspire for since they’ve had a feel being champoinz.
I wonder if our training is up to scratch. Why take so long to drop a keeper and then call another who was equally dropped?Renard never ceases to amuse! Then this losing streak? Each game needs to be won. These guys are straight from their respective leagues and not on pre-season where he gives them too much physical fitness. The boys need to combine and gel.Let him use the best eleven for each game.We must start winning from today Mr Renard!! No excuses Sir.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.
Amuse or amaze? Thez words are different baba, check yo grammer b4 u confuse chaps from Chipata – maybe ur one of them
Kankonje is a finished player that even NAPASA has stoped using him but what is hapening with FAz only God knows. And you guys, are you going any far this tournerment if you can loose to Tanzania which is not even on the football map?. Rena must be replaced before it is too late.
Guys hold your fire!! Zambia is in camp which is a good thing and improvement, going by our record in terms of preparation, Lets support the team espercially that we are in camp, training matches expose alot of things to the coach and players, Its a lets wait and see situation – but I can assure you that with such good friendly matches Zambia will be fine tuned by the end of the day – besides there are 3 more players to drop so there is competition though the coach is avoiding injuries – thats why we lose – other wise am happy with the camp – cheers king Kalu for hearing me out.
One more point – lets respect the coach’s decisions espercially on who is picked or dropped, because every coach even in europe have their own prefered players! In fact in any grouping of people there are and will always be favourites or dependables for various reasons – so if Reherd chooses to call Jemba-Jemba or Felix or Gatuso (Chansa) then its his game plan or choice, I would do the same.
Once again I commend FAZ for early camping and good friendlee matches, this will promote coordination and good system of play that we lacked in Uganda – Go Zambia Go and may the better team win the 2013 AFCON edition, eyes on the ball,
Kakonje has never been a good goal keeper even from the time he came on the scene. If people can remember, he was the guy that cost us a place at the world cup 2006. By that time Mweene was second choice and he was never used in the qualifying matches for the 2006 World cup.
Now to those who followed our qulifying streak to the 2006 World cup can support me on what I am saying here. When Zambia was playing against Mali in Bamako we were leading 1-0 until Kakonje left the goal post alone and only for Kanoute to head the ball in an empty net. Kakonje was no where to be seen and final score was 1-1. He did the same against Senegal in Daka were we lost 1-0. As though that was not enough he repeated the same thing in Lusaka. He has never been an Asset, but instead a liability.
Time…
the chap is a drunk. Remember the Kabwata saga!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good riddance. Now Zambia sure malosi too much. its like failing all your tests, assignments and hoping to get A+ in the final exam. please baSata just cancel the boys participation in the AFCON 13 and use the money to buy more maize for our mealie meal. i don’t see us going past first round. if we didn’t participant at least we shall console ourselves and say if we played in the cup it would have remained in Zambia. All the same thank you guys you made us proud. the cup eluded as for decades. Great names never won it but you did. I salute you.
But they failed most of the tests and assignments before 2012 AFCON and against all odds went on to pass sessional with A+. Whats your comment, unless u didnt follow the preparatory games b4 last year’s tournament
