Some Chipata resident have questioned the quality of the new rebased Kwacha saying the new money has already started fading when it has only been in circulation for a month.

A businessman who operates at the Central business district, Charles Tembo, charged that the new money easily fades off and when comes into contact with water or sweat the ink easily fades.

And a trader Richard Banda of kapata market expressed concern that the money may be faded before the old kwacha is completed phased out because the quality of the new notes is questionable.

Mr Banda said there is need for the Bank of Zambia to monitor the new notes and ensure that the money is durable because changing the money again would be costly for the government.

Meanwhile, some residents have commended the Bank of Zambia for introducing the new money saying it is easy to handle.

Georgina Phiri of Magazine compound said she has been able to carry out her business without difficulties as it is not only easy to calculate but also easy to carry.

Another trader of Navutika compound Betty Mulenga said the money is easy to handle though there was need for more sensitization to be done in regards the coins.

Asked how she carries out her business using coins; Betty said she does not accept the coins because she did not want to get confused.

“I cannot handle the coins because I still do not understand how the K100 has been converted to the Ngwee,” she said.

Betty appealed for more sensitization on the rebased currency saying she would only accept the Ngwee as a legal tender when she understands its value.

    • My friend these are our cousin from the East, I hear they have already named some children as Rebased Mwanza and Army Worm Phiri

    • Magazine here refers to a storage facility for explosives, not reading material…this compound may be associated with the Army

    • @Chief – I knew you had a sense of humour albeit a dark one 🙂

      @ Lerato – very helpful

I was just thinking Magazine was misspelt and might have been a reference to thought (as in Nyanja with the n and z…o) but Navutika… I would really like to know who came up with the name.

    • i remember sata teasing mwanawasa that the kwacha is fading fast like Levy’s brians. i hope we can say the s\me on him too

    • ok buti na bvutika compund is a bit too much hahahaha please magazine compound is probably named after reading material i wouldnt put it passed these bululus of mine..i have relatives with sum very interesting names..

    • There are copmounds with funny names in Northern and Luapula Provinces also. So bembas don’t try to be smart here. There is Kambotole in Kasama and Senama in Mansa,

  1. The whole province together with its people must be rebased to bring them in line with reality.

Ati Magazine compound, ala kali lepuka kuli ba ku mawa!!

    • Bembas kuli boneshya, but okomwafuma ni ku mpanga sure. Thankfully I have been to your villages and I know how undeveloped your home towns are. In Kasama which is the headquarters of the North, there are only 2 banks(ZANACO & STANCHART) and in Mansa there are only 2 banks(Barclays & ZANACO); whilst CHIPATA has 7 BANKS and people from Magazine and Navutika even buy PIZZA from DEBONAIRES, whilst your relatives are only eating tute ne mbalala(ubwausi) and umumbu.lol

    • Some of these marketeers trade right in the scotching sun; just in case you have forgotten about street vending in Zambia. Such that they handle money and sweat at the same time. Thats how the money come into contact with sweat; since “wata amano ku muchila” u cant reason properly. lol

  2. If your aim is to prove that a piece of paper can fade,it will fade. Why subject money to sweat? For what purpose?Put your money nicely in your pocket, wallet or handbag, nothing can go wrong. These are man-made products anyway so they are not meant to last forever.
The now outgoing K1000 and K500 notes had the same complaint,so whats new?Money is made of paper and its simple common sense that paper especially handled and mishandled disintergrates.

  3. Please value your money(Kwacha) buy wallets to use it will not fade. Be carefull it could be a fake Kwacha open your eyes.

  4. TB JOSH has predicted that Zambia will eliminate the strongest and most feard African team in the semi finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations……..

  5. FORGIVE MY USELESS COLLEAGUES FROM THE EAST ,THEY LIKE PUTTING MONEY IN UNDERWEAR AND SOCKS !
    ANYWAY BAKOSWE MAKE OUR DAYS!
