WEDNESDAY LEAGUE PREVIEW

POWER COACH WALKING THE PLANK AS ZANACO STORM APPRAOCHES.

Zanaco travel to beleaguered Power Dynamos on Wednesday to play a delayed week 4 fixture in a match as the pressure bears down the home sides” head coach Lawrence Mweemba.

Mweemba’s job is online just nine months after taking over at Power from Englishman Eddie May last September before guiding them to a 3 rd place finish at the close of the 2006 campaign.

The magic it seems to have evaporated from Mweemba.

It is now a common sight with every passing home game to see disappointed fans gathering outside the perimeter fence just in front of Powers’ dressing room, venting their spleens- A clear sign that all is not well on the yellow side of Kitwe.

Although Power have also shown some consistency in their last four games, they lack anything close to killer instinct or are just plan uninspiring all-round this season.

Their three goalkeepers are rotated faster than musical chairs, their defence is dodgier than a fake dollar bill, midfield basic and attack sparkless led the now enigmatic striker Elson Mukandawire.

Furthermore, Power, in 10th place and on 13 points won just three of the last ten games played so far.

And fixtures don’t come any easier for Power than facing archrivals and 2nd placed Zanaco who themselves have stuttered but have still managed to muster positive results in crucial league encounters unlike the home side.

Zanaco are undefeated in their last four games after quick-fire 1-0 away and 2-1 home defeat against Kabwe Warriors and Lusaka Dynamos respectively in mid-April.

Moreover, Arthur Davies has been a good hunting ground for Zanaco over the last five years.

Zanaco have not lost in the league there since November 9, 2002 when Power beat them 2-0 in the two sides penultimate top-flight game of the year.

The visitors will hope their talismanic captain Mumamba Numba who has scored in three of the last four away games at Power will again inspire them to keep their coveted record against Power intact.

In the days other delayed match, 8th placed Buffaloes host struggling Nakambala Leopards at Independence stadium in the two sides’ week 3 fixture.

  1. Selecting Morgan Hanjema makes sense to our National Team. He is a good striker who can hold the ball. Welldone Patrick Phiri for selecting Hanjema.

The other player Patrick Phiri should try in the National team, is Maxwell Mulenga and Sipo Mumbi.

  2. Experiment in stages like this one one we almost in calculations for us to qualify to the Africa cup.

I think the coach must find better time to make his experiments as we need to win the remaining matches for as to to qualify to the Africa cup.

Patrick must experiment players in friendly games not cru like the game against Congo brazaville.

  3. Is Sipho Mumbi still good M-Canada? I remember the last time I watched him play was in a Zambia vs Zimbabwe under 23 match and then was hot stuff I think that was in 2003. On paper the local side sounds very interesting.

  4. I agree with ANDSEN, this time is sso wromg to start experimenting palyers,. patric should wait for the COSAFA cup to experiiment players, and i would advise FAZ to have doulble alligence and reconsider being members of cecafa too since we can not afford international friendly matches (because of a stingy govmt with no priorities)as they claim, even though poorer countries like DRC can manage to comp in france.

  5. If coach Phiri continues with experimentations like this then let’s count our selves out of the race.I would rather experienced players beef up the crop of these youngsters.Davies Phiri has appologised for his past wrongs but everyone turns a deaf ear.Nsofwa Chaswe was instrumental in our cosafa cup victory and should not be ignored.Jacob Mulenga has been called but there is nothing to write home about him.Phiri should also try to use Mbesuma as a super substitute in order for him to score more goals.
