Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda says the cases of industrial unrest by workers in Zambia have reduced significantly since the Patriotic Front took over Government.
Mr Shamenda says this is because Government has lived up to its election promises on which it was elected.
Speaking when he witnessed the graduation of 15 drivers from his Ministry at the Lusaka Technical Business College yesterday, Mr Shamenda said he would run the Labour Ministry as a viable business entity by reducing bureaucracies associated with accessing services from a Government department.
He said the Ministry had embarked on a capacity building exercise which would allow all members of staff access training regardless of their positions.
He said in an effort to enhance service delivery, the ministry of Labour had established addition legal, public relations and IT departments.
Mr Shamenda implored Zambians not to listen to complaints by some quarters who deliberately failed to appreciation the developmental strides being made by the Government but see for themselves the efforts that have so far been made to uplift the lives of the people
“This graduation is part of our re-branding, to bring the Ministry to a level where it can contribute to the efficient running of Government .Everyone deserves to be empowered through skills training as these are lifelong skills,” Mr Shamenda said.
Lusaka Business Technical College Board Chairperson George Silutongwe commended Government for coming up with the initiative of training workers locally.
Mr Silutongwe said the college was willing to design more study programmes that would be in tandem with the current market trends.
The drivers some of whom are attached to the office of the minister and his deputies were trained in basic mechanical skills.
how do you officiate at a graduation of 15 drivers when govt officials fail to attend graduations of thousands at Unza and CBU…
imwe batata dont u that pipo had hope n yor pf goverment still figures are not improving
in order 2 get a gud % unless u demostrate we are tired of shikulu akwinenifye na bena munkombwe
No Mr Shamenda. The country saw an increase in industrial strife soon after the PF took power. You promised heaven to workers which you failed to fulfil. The correct statement you should be making is that strikes in the second year of PF rule have decreased compared to the first year of PF rule!
Honestly, can such an insignificant occassion require the presence of the whole Minister of Labour? Worst of all for 15 Drivers? To me, this beats logical understanding. Clearly, this is simply a stunt to pretend that somebody is working. This fellow is coming from a background where individuals use their mouths more than any other organ of the body to do their work. Can someone tell him that he should be more concerned with reducing the swelling numbers of the unemployed as well as reducing queues at pensions offices. Take Shamenda elsewhere where he can be useful and bring back Kambwili to the ministry.
Shamenda is the only minister that knows what he is doing and in full grip of the PF Policy delivery in his ministry. This can only be attributable to his exposure internationally. He does simple things that cost nothing or little but make real and huge difference at the lowest level. Examples abound; minimum wage; policy on employment of zambian HR personnel; training of lower level staff like drivers; re-organising his ministry for effeicient service delivery, etc. This is what all ministers should be doing but they are not…sadly even Guy Scott who is supposed to be a model has proven to be very very lazy and hugely ineffective…
if you can be trusted with a small amount then you can as well be trusted with a large chunk?
You mean the unrest you created yourselves?
