Former President Rupiah Banda’s son Andrew was arrested and detained at Woodlands police station for alleged defamation of the republican President is to be transported to chipata where he is going to be charged for defaming President Michael Sata.
This is according to his lawyers Mr Katolo and Paul Katupisha who were speaking to the media after their client was arrested.
His lawyers Mr Katolo and Paul Katupisha later told journalists that their client had been charged with defamation of the president but that he would only be formally charged in Chipata where the alleged offence took place.
“We are told he defamed the president together with other people in Chipata and that officers from Chipata are on their way coming to pick him so that he can be charged in Chipata. We have no clue about the details we are in the dark” Mr Katolo said.
Andrew who is already facing another corrupt related offence was ushered into the cells around 16.30 in a move his lawyer described as “extremely disgusting.”
Tempers were high at the Lusaka magistrate court complex as Andrew who had just finished his defence in his corruption case was approached by plain clothed police officers who asked him to accompany them to Woodlands police station.
Andrew instead went in a different direction insisting he wanted to talk to his sister or better still find his way to the police with his lawyers.
The officers told Andrew that he had no option but to jump in their Nissan caravan as some people were waiting for him at the police and time was running out.
“We are going to Woodlands police where some people are waiting for you just follow us,” one of the police officers said.
At that point Andrew responded, “I will come with my vehicle or better still with the lawyers.”
Andrew however continued “hold on officers … hold on …can I just talk to my sister and get some documents. Can gentlemen like me run away honestly? I have not refused to go…hold on officers I am coming.”
But one of the officers grabbed Andrew in his suit and dragged him into the vehicle as Brenber Changala protested that the officers leave Andrew alone.
The officers immediately drove off with Andrew to Woodlands police station leaving his lawyer Milner Katolo who attempted to plead with them to let him drive his client to police.
While at the Police station, Andrew at the police told to remove his shoes, belt and other personal effects after he was informed of the charge of defamation of the president.
When asked by one of the journalists what charge had been slapped with Andrew said, “ Kuti defamation of the president kwa Chipata.”
The same fools zp failed to arrest judge ngoma.you see how this fools lack common sense.even my daughter can act better than this robots we have.they lack practice of good conduct.
Please PF don’t allow these uneducated police offices to make PF unpopular within a short period of time. Its these policy thugs who destroyed MMD. These people are not educated and don’t use their heads to think. Really arresting people will bring PF down to earth within a short time of period.PF needs to change. They have allowed thugs from MMD to destroy the Party .Now Pf is doing the same things. Why can’t U read that generation has changed.People hate the violence behavior of PF thugs. Iwe ba PF has lost popularity in short time. Can somebody be bold and face Mr. Sata how to rule without violence.
This is all nonsense! PF your boat is sinking fast!
Pf, will be 1 term party.
Please mr sata listen to the pipo we feel ashamed now to defend any issue on pf cos you do the opposite all times remember time is catching up with u
I think the country has taken a wrong direction. Why is sata insecure with the Bandas honesty? Please mr sata i beg you don’t “awaken the sleeping giant”.Never say we never warned you.Zambians look patient but very hard to contain when there react.
Why should we waste tax-payers money to drive from Chipata to Lusaka and back, and draw allowances when a simple callout can be served to Andrew Banda by ZP so that he travels to Chipata and avails himself. Have we stopped thinking? Sad.
Clear Anger after losing Chipata Central, let this be a wake-up call for PF. THEY WILL NOT WIN IN 2016 PERIOD. JUST THE WHOLE PARTY HAS LOST, IT’S DIRECTION. BUSY HARASSING PEOPLE FOR NOTHING?? Instead of working for the people. Come out in Open that the president is embarrassed, he did not expect to lose Chipata Elections. SO ICHIFUKUSHI, Ending up arresting at least one of the Banda’s. What a shame that our country has gone to these levels.
Is it possible to mention the names of the police officers who are behaving in this manner. They must be held accountable for unprofessional conduct and sucked immediately the PF government goes out of office. This is very sad and i do not place the entire blame on politicians – we all have a conscience. Those who have relatives and friends who act in this manner should advise them to be impartial and professional.
