PRESIDENT Sata has congratulated Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe on his re-election.

The President said Mr Mugabe’s victory signifies the trust and commitment the people of Zimbabwe maintain in the ZANU-PF.

This is according to a statement issued yesterday by special assistant to the President for press and public relations George Chellah.

Mr Sata said President Mugabe’s victory is an indication that Zimbabweans want the ZANU-PF leadership to continue with the programmes and policies that will boost development in that country.

President Sata has also congratulated the ruling ZANU-PF for the resounding victory in the July 31 harmonised elections.

“I would like to take this opportunity to further commend Your Excellency and dear brother, for the free and peaceful environment under which these elections were conducted at every level across the country,” President Sata said.

Mr Sata said he has joined Zimbabwe in celebrating the momentous and joyous occasion, while looking forward to strengthening further the existing warm bilateral relations between Zambia and Zimbabwe for the mutual benefit of the two sister countries.

Earlier, Acting President Alexander Chikwanda appealed to countries that still maintain sanctions against Zimbabwe to lift them in the interest of humanity and fellowship.

Mr Chikwanda, who said this on behalf of President Sata in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday, also congratulated President Mugabe on his re-election as Zimbabwean President.

He said the imposed sanctions against Zimbabwe have outlived their usefulness.

“The sanctions have become morally implausible to maintain eternal ostracism of Zimbabwe from the community of nations,” Mr Chikwanda said.

The EU first imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe in 2002, including travel bans and freezing bank accounts of more than 200 targeted individuals.

He said going into the future, the illustrious, diligent and resourceful people of Zimbabwe should be allowed unfettered opportunity to prosper and make a useful contribution to overall global prosperity and well-being.

Mr Chikwanda also appealed for calm and unity as Zimbabwe forges ahead for enhanced economic prosperity.

“On behalf of President Michael Chilufya Sata, the government and the people of the Republic of Zambia and on my own behalf, I wish to congratulate President Robert Gabriel Mugabe on yet again being elected President of Zimbabwe,” he said.

  1. Did Sata say this via telephone from his private visit which his own voters don’t know of??
GBM may be a prophet that sata will visit all 10 provinces, this sounds like Levy visting all 9 provinces.

  2. This is good news. Twingarai is indeed a cry baby. Why did he agree to go for the election, knowing very well he could not trust the old folk?

Our President’s speech is spot on and timely. Our brothers and sisters in Zimbabwe have gone through untold suffering. Enough is enough. They need to move on building their lives and country. Many Zimbabweans have become refuges in many countries because of sanctions from the west.

Presido Sata even reminded the west at the last UN General assembly that it was not Mugabe the west were punishing, but the displaced and marginalized ordinary people of Zimbabwe who were malnourished!

Sanctions must come to an end. The people of Zimbabwe need the World, PLEASE.

    FREEDOM FIGHTER

    • Comrade “Freedom Fighter”, DO NOT SPREAD FALSE RUMORS.
SANCTIONS ARE NOT IMPOSED ON PEPLE OF ZIMBABWE BUT ON IMMORAL POLITICIANS AND THEIR FAMILIES AND ASSOCIATES FROM ZANU-PF.
If you want definition of “IMMORAL POLITICIANS”, please ask SG/PF

  3. THIS IS GOOD AND ESPECIALLY THAT SO MANY COUNTRIES AND DIGNITARIES HAVE JOINED IN TO CONGRATULATE ZIMBABWEANS ON THIS HISTORIC PROBLEM FREE ELECTION WHICH MUGABE HAS WON RESOUNDINGLY.
HIS CRITICS ARE LEFT DUMB FOUNDED LICKING THEIR TAILS.

  4. ATI Newyork????? with those seats and people look lost. My staffroom is far much better. No Recognistion

  5. Did you people expect anything less? These two are best of friends it was just a matter of time and in all fairness, i dont laugh at president Sata for congratulating his buddy, if Sadc and AU in all their mighty can congratulate and declare the elections frre and fair to the entire world, what more his best man? THis is real people untill such a time when Godly devine intervines, otherwise, dont expect anything different!

  6. Zimbabweans are better off with Mugabe than selling their sovereignty to Britain and America through Tswangirai.
Sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe were meant to cause the people of Zimbabwe to suffer and rise killing each other. That did not happen because people of Zimbabwe saw through that. Tswangirai going to bed with the west was never to be a solution but a detriment taking Zimbabwe way back beyond 1981.
If only the west had honored the land redistribution program as had earlier been agreed,no life would have been lost,no sanctions and land redistribution would have been smooth. Some whites who owned huge farms agreed to part away with portions of their land and are now comfortably settled there. Even some indigenous Zimbabweans parted away with some of their ancestral land.

    • Great contribution. One thing is wrong. If to day Citizens of Zim are allowed to emigrate freely to any country in the West, Mugabe own daughter and his wife will be first in line for visa.
