Independent Broadcasting Authority to inspects broadcast stations

Share

Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Director General, Josephine Mapoma, has announced a countrywide inspection of all broadcasting stations.

Ms Mapoma has, therefore, urged all television and radio stations to be expectant of inspectors any time.

In a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka, Ms Mapoma stated that when people apply for radio or television licences, they submit programme schedules that they are meant to follow once in operation.

Ms Mapoma said there are guidelines that broadcast stations must follow once licences have been granted to them.

She said the setting up of the IBA will see the commencement in the inspection of stations, one of its functions that have not been very active in the past.

Ms Mapoma charged that all broadcast stations should put their houses in order and follow their licences earnestly.

She said the IBA team commenced their inspections on the Copperbelt where they inspected a number of radio stations which include, Yar FM, Flava FM, and Copperbelt Television Systems.

Ms Mapoma has further warned that all stations that have neglected to renew their broadcast licences should do so by the end of September this year or face suspension of their licences.

She pointed out that the IBA has learnt that there are television and radio stations that have neglected to renew their broadcast licences.

Ms Mapoma, however, noted that there were some impressive actions taking place in the radio industry based on the inspection of broadcast stations on the Copperbelt.

She said she is pleased that there has been growth with some stations being very innovative and certainly moving in the right direction.

Ms Mapoma was, however, quick to mention that there is still a lot of work to be done with other stations and the onus is on them to stay committed to the provisions of their licences and programme schedule.

  1. Clamp down that Barotse radio staion, not even in the days of uprising was a hate radio station allowed in a country, what is wrong with our government how can a radio profess hate propaganda for all this time and you are just watching? really docile people thats why even Elephants are now members of paliarment somewhere, if they get Lions on their side we are dead finished, that Elephant witnessing the swearing in was so angry it almost walked to state house, hopefully the guy hasnt entered namibia by now!

    • What hate have they preached? And against who? They are just campaigning for their cause, whether you agree with them or not is another issue. But hate ? No my dear there’s no hate there. Their interviews on their Radio are very respectful even with people who do not share their cause. I don’t agree with their secessionist struggle but it is not true that they are preaching hate. The only people who are preaching hate are the people opposed to them. You don’t have to go very far for the evidence is all here on these threads that have to do with this topic. And this hate is directed at all Lozis.

    • Sindy.., i like your name hehehehehehehehehe, i dont wanna get in to Tom and Jerry antics, they kinder get me out of shape so much that i get slamped in to un neccessary stress, as for the issue at hand, i take no sides but advocate for that which is if you see it as a positive media which promote Morals, love, development for Zambia and Zambians, well and good, you have the right to your own opnion and so do i, we have the power to change our destiny, if you call western province a country apart from Zambia, who am i to say otherwise, my concerns are genuine i reject absolute retariation and revenge the foundation of such a methode is hate which you shouldnt take pride in if you pride in interlligence!

  2. Cindy Western Province is a province of Zambia. It’s not a country. In our opposition to the demands for secession let us all stick to the truth. There’s no hate speech on Barotse Radio. There’s nothing inflammatory on that radio. By the way in what language is that hate speech? Is it in Lozi? Why dont you point people to the particular broadcast that is full of hate since that Radio is been streamed online?
