THE Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) has arrested a Zambia Air Force Major and a Private in Mfuwe for allegedly being in possession of two Government trophies.
And Toyata Land Cruiser registration number ZAF 3740B where the animal carcasses were found has been impounded.
The duo was arrested on Wednesday around 18:00 hours, 15 kilometers from the Mfuwe ZAF base.
According to the sources, the suspects were found in possession of Puku and Bush Buck which is a protected species.
The sources said the suspect were expected to appear in Chipata Magistrate Court today
The sources said poaching by senior officers from ZAF has being going on for some time and local people are believed to working with them.
However, ZAWA director general Xen Vlahakis asked for a press query when contacted for a comment but did not responded to by press time.
Good job ZAWA officers, ensure animals are protected for future generation. But also educate people on open season hunting.
Ninshi how much do you like meat kwena that you have to go and poach?
In defence, those two officers were not poaching but just merely practicing to shoot since they have no shooting range. They did not know how far they strayed away from the base as you can see the ZAF base is close to where the animal are. Please forgive this honorable men since its their first offence! then washauti!
l am sure they must have had a go ahead from their bosses, what with “NIMPIYA SHA BA NOKO” minister of Defence GBM, maybe they have not been funded so they just had to go and find rations for the troops. We still have no results from the elephant tasks saga on the China trip by General Mihova, GBM featured prominently.
I guess its asking the Monkey to look after the maize field…
Speaking about monkeys… If they were poachard monkeys found you would no the ZAF man is a Bemba and would be taking them back to the Nyumba for the family to Enjoy! Kekekekekekekeke
and upnd cadres said the zawa officials have become Masebo’s body guard
Dingi …. for own consumption. leave the Maj. alone
The Puku and Bush Buck accidentally ran into the bullets fired by the Major who was just servicing his guns. He could not leave the carcasses in the bush when he saw that the animals had died that is why he carrried them in his vehicle.
They were not dead when he carried them. As this was an accident, he was rushing them to the vet clinic somewhere between Chimfule and Chiwawatala when the ZAWA guys met him…hahahaha no case here. Gong! Gong! Court dismissed!
Its not wrong to kill one or too animals for consuption.God gave us animals for meat. There is no scripture which says animals were created for Governments to be used as tropies.Yes,we should not spill animal blood for pleasure but for food.
All of us are equal and should eat game meat and not tourists only and big guys.we also need to test the natural bone marrow of wildlife. Some Big short and kafupi guy now late nearly finnished all guinee fowls, impalas, rabbits to mention a few and left only Kanitundila animals in the state trees.
There is serious poaching and air-lifting of said trophies there. U victimize the major for Puku and Bush Buck, barely enough to feed their families for a day without subsidies!
Why didn’t this major kill for all the families in Zambia. We also need to feed our families. This talk of he did it to feed the family just borders on selfishness. Game meat can be bought legally. Using government resources to poach is an even more serious offense especially by our men in uniform. Lets get real.
No one is above the law.
ba zawa capwa mwapumwa mubwalwa.
Those people are highly privileged, he was killing coz feels he is above the law (untouchable) and he cannot be searched! He can’t tell me his family is starving! he has everything he needs in life. Well done ZAWA guys!
Thou shalt kill and eat all this i have given thee and sanctified…if the highly trained gentleman killed for the pot, just warn and caution him.
Lets be realistic,if you have not killed any living animal ranging from a rat to an elephant, blame the major who was unfortunately impounded
