The Movement for Multi Party Democracy (MMD) in Eastern province has expressed happiness over the outcome of the ruling of the Lusaka High Court allowing Dora Siliya, Maxwell Mwale and Hastings Sililo to re-contest their seats.

MMD Provincial Secretary Lugomo Phiri said the ruling has cheered party members in the province who anticipated positive ruling of the case involving the three former Members of Parliament (MPs).

Mr Phiri stated that the party was more than ready to fill in Dora Siliya who was a preferred candidate in Petauke Central constituency.

Meanwhile, Mr Lugomo said his party would fill in a candidate in Malambo Constituency in Mambwe district in Eastern province.

Mr Phiri was reacting to calls by United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichelema who featured on a local radio station in Chipata urging MMD not to fill a candidate but support UPND in Malambo constituency.

He said the party has its own candidate whom it would file in the forth coming by elections to be held in Malambo constituency saying his party and the MMD had not signed any memorandum of understanding to allow one candidate from the two party’s to contest.

The court ruling was as a result of the three MP’s who applied for judicial review following the decision by the ECZ to bar them from filling in nominations in Petauke Central, Malambo and Mulobezi constituencies respective.

High Court Judge Mungeni Mulenga said the decision by ECZ was not in line with section 104 subsection 6 of the electoral act.

  1. Its Dora all the way….Viva Dora; here we come. Crush them once and for all. I know the court ruling has given them a chill up their spine.

  2. PF Kabimba wanted to Bar Dora in fear of losing but now this has brought a courage even to those who did not want to give her vote will now give her.

  3. Wina azalira with hate and envy. Kabimba sazagona nacikonkho kumtima lero. Whether he likes it or not azaluza Petauke central, Malambo and Mulobezi!!

  4. It will be good to see Dora back in parliament. I see a lot of constructive critisism in her since she crossed the floor. She was my least favourite person when her party was in power. But now, I enjoy listening to her.
