President Michael Sata has commended Zambia Army for maintaining peace and security in the country.

President Sata said the army has a challenge of ensuring that Zambia is a beacon of peace in Africa.

The Head of State acknowledged the critical role the army has played in maintaining peace and security that the country is enjoying currently and that their efforts deserve recommendation.

The Head of State said this in Kabwe today when he commissioned 138 Zambia Army officer cadets at Kohima barracks.

He urged the newly commissioned Zambia army officers not to take part in active partisan politics.

President Sata told the officer cadets that their role was to support the Government of the day and to uphold the constitution of the land.

He also urged the army command to ensure officers are kept busy by engaging them in productive activities like farming.
And Zambia Army Commander Paul Mihova thanked government for the financial and material support that was availed to the army during the training programme of the officer cadets.

Lietenant Mihova also commended the officer cadets for their commitment, endurance and successful completion of the training.

He also acknowledged the efforts Government is making in addressing the accommodation situation for defence personnel in the country.

Lt. Gen Mihova disclosed that the Zambia Army was recently officially handed over 275 housing units in Kabwe and 125 housing units in Mufulira by the Ministry of Defence under phase one of the Sinomach housing unit project.

He said Zambia army is therefore grateful to Government for the gesture as it will greatly improve the living conditions of the officers and soldiers.

    • He looks pathetic in this military regalia especially that he keeps having problems with the sash, it was the same in the ZAF uniform. The dress code clearly stipulates on how the “ceremonial uniform complete” should be worn. My advice to the Commanders would be, if it can’t be worn properly or does not fit, then let them do away with it or, improvise specifically for the Head of State so that the sash is always in place, all services have very good tailors, l see no reason why the Commander-in-Chief should always be made to look this comical. lsn’t there any “initiative” anymore?

    • the caption of the picture is wrong. These are not officer cadets. look at their ranks? there are all non-commissioned officers….sergeant, stf sergeant..etc.

    • We salute you your HE may The Lord bless you only the enemies of the state will post negative comments. they will not ascend to power for we reap what we sow

  1. Lt I don’t think that is the correct picture of the event those in the picture are soldiers of other ranks and are non commissioned officers.Officer cadets being commissioned by the president will normally have their ranks on their shoulders covered with a white clothes

  2. I really think the Commander in Chief should just be wearing a suit. The uniforms don’t fit at all and he looks rather funny, or is this a military joke to put him in unfitting uniforms?

  3. am concerned with the speech of soldiers gong to farm by HE the advice is that what let him remember that there is an army forming up in Barotsa and since we soldiers don’t want farming we will go and join

  4. “President Sata told the officer cadets that their role was to ….. uphold the constitution of the land.”

When he himself is failing to do it!

Mr. President, take your own advice!
