Republican Vice president, Dr. Guy Scott has stated that the Patriotic Front (PF) government has not turned the country into a dictatorial state.

Speaking during the BBC Debate on Democracy in Zambia under the PF regime, Dr. Scott says the PF has no intentions of returning the country back to a one party system.

Dr. Scott argues that if the PF has turned the nation into dictatorship, people would not have been at peace as can be seen in other un-democratic countries.

Dr. Scott has further disowned PF cadres who have been protesting against PF secretary General Wynter Kabimba stating that they are from the former ruling party, MMD.

Speaking during the same debate, Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) Executive Director, MacDonald Chipenzi, said the country’s democracy under the PF is under threat.

Mr. Chipenzi adds that the PF government has failed to address the fundamental laws that will promote democracy in the country such as Freedom of Information Bill, Access to Information Bill and the Freedom of Assembly Bill.

Mr. Chipenzi says government just watches when people’s rights are being abrogated by the PF cadres as well as the Zambia Police.

And Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) President, Dr. Nevers Mumba says democracy in Zambia died the time the PF unseated the MMD from office in 2011.

Dr. Mumba, who was part of the audience, says the opposition in the country finds it difficult to carry out quality checks and balances on the current government for fear of being apprehended by the police.

He says the PF must apologize to the Zambian people for putting the country’s democracy under fire for the first two years they have been in the office.

    • The rule of law has vanished from Zambia. PF has severely tarnished the image of Zambia. And continues to do so by the day through lies, denial, violence, in-fighting, tribalism, favoritism, donkey kubeba, spectator police, appointing clueless cadres as PS, and corruption.

  1. Now if there’s someone I don’t respect, its a liar. How can the VP an old man, lie between his teeth like that? What example is he giving to young people of this country? That its OK to lie?

How can his Lusaka Province Chairman Chilikwela be an MMD cadre? How appalling, awful, disgusting and preposterous! Does the PF have even an iota of being honest when an entire Vice President can gleefully be so dishonest?

    • I have many weaknesses. And yet when it comes to a liar, my own weaknesses pale and indignation rises in me.

Imagine, having a liar for a wife; a liar for your doctor; a liar for a judge…..?!

    • @ Stg Gunduzani, @Sambombo, well spoken guys. I thought I was the only one whose blood boils when an adult in a position of responsibility, who is supposed to show duty of care in what he says, begins to lie so openly without any self respect and without so much as a thought for consequences to our vulnerable youth. The youth will think lying is a noble thing to do, only to run into difficulties later in life when they mix and compete in this global village with other youth and discover it is not noble. Who wants a Liar Banker? A liar Mechanic? A liar IT specialist? A liar Engineer? A liar driver? A shop assistant? They will then have so much to unlearn and re-learn that they will be a step behind. This is long-term damage to our future generation. I find this very very annoying.

  2. I think the MMD President Mr Nevers mumba, has lost vision direction for him to comment on issues related to democracy, stated” democracy ended when PF went into government” forgetting that even when he was a president of the party he buried, the language was just the same in attacking the MMD where he is leading by now. There is need for him to figure or moderate his statements and refrain from the past.

  3. What is making matters worse is that THE PRESIDENT is visibly silent.

The total leadership failure and collapse has created a very risky gap which has very serious implications to the Nation’s security.

The country needs guidance and needs it Now!!!!!!!!!

Sata, address the nation and your PARTY. I don’t mean a rush witch-hunting stop-gap to-the-gallery stunt. I mean a well meaning, honest and genuine address.

  4. It is clear that the Veep did not even believe in what he was saying by linking the confusion in his party to MMD. Don’t just disassociate yourself from the cadres but from the party as well. Resign and rest and recover your health, please Ba Veep.

  5. A quick glance at the state of the country is scaring.

How many battles is PF arrogantly fighting?

    1. The implosion of the party where the cadres have taken over running the party
    2. The on going stand-off with Bashilubemba over the Chitimukulu
    3. The on-going dissensions in Barotse
    4. The continued stand-off over the Chief Justice’s contract
    5. The Supreme court vs Siliya and Co over the bye elections
    6. The economic red-lights epitomized by the budget over-run and gaping deficit

  6. I would expect an old man, who is approaching end of his journey, that when it stand up in front of the mirror it should feel proud of what it has achieved in the past and no the shame which will stick for eternity.
But then, Mr. Kabimba has already said: “… there a no morality in politics…” !!!
One question I would like to ask: what is there?

  7. This government truly is showing some elements of dictatorship. I don’t even know why Mr Scot is trying to defend this reality.

  8. This is worrisome to Zambia. How long will PF continue cheating the Nation? For example how many heads of states have visited Zambia since PF came into power?
Is it not shameful seeing yourself visiting other countries and yet not even your neighbor visit you?

  9. My grandfather wouldn’t call Guy Scot a white man. He doesn’t think like one. Probably spent too much time with Sata. Some nasty things are clearly very contagious.

  10. Haha Guy Chikoti is in denial.Even dictators like Mugabe,Saddam Hussein,Mussolini and Al Bashir never ever view themselves as dictators. These dictators all held
    “elections”

  11. We are not quite there yet, but the continued blockages of a number of websites, harassment of media are bad signs of things to come. Numerous Statutory Instruments have been used to circumvent the parliamentary process, many of them not well thought out. Guy Scott on the other hand has shown willingness to step outside of the box when it comes to some issues, particularly support of HIV interventions in prisons, which he should be commended for. The normal PF blather on homosexual activity in a supposedly Christian nation, is of course just a vote gathering technique, but nonetheless one used by numerous repressive regimes across the world.
