3 PF cadres sentenced to 3-years in prison over illegal land sale

THREE suspected Patriotic Front (PF) cadres yesterday wept uncontrollably in the Choma Magistrate Court after they were convicted and sentenced to three-years imprisonment for obtaining money on false pretence.

The three, Exildah Mwale, 38, Tokyo Jere, 33, and Japhet Kamwendo, 35, wept loudly in the docket as most of their relatives joined in shedding tears outside the court.

This was shortly after Choma Magistrate Jacob Mbolela who sentenced the trio, ordered police officers to immediately take the convicts to jail.

Mwale wept while she put both her hands on her head. It took other female suspects who had came to take plea in a murder case to console her while on the other hand ,police officers ordered her to stop crying in court.

“Stop crying in court, you will cry in the jail this is not a place of weeping,” one police was heard telling her.

Particulars of the offence are that on October, 3 2013, the trio whilst jointly acting together in Machinda Township in Choma obtained K3, 500.00 from Christopher Mwanga after they sold him an illegal piece of land.

The trio purported that they had a plot in the area which they sold to Mr Mwanga when infact, the said piece of land did not belong to them but obtained the money on false pretence from the victim.

In mitigation, Mwale pleaded for lenience saying she was the first offender and was looking after two grand children with two orphans and if she was jailed, her siblings would suffer at home.

Jere also asked the court to be lenient with him saying he was a widower whose wife passed away recently and left a five-month old baby whom he was looking after.

When passing sentence, Mr Mbolela said the offence the trio committed was on the increase in Choma as several people were swindled out of their little hard earned income.

”I have heard your mitigations but offences of this nature have become rampant in Choma and many people are being swindled for buying plots illegally this sentence should set example to others,” he sais

    • Its time this impunity was stopped!!

We had this illegality going on during UNIP, then in MMD and now in PF and Zambian are left at the mercy of the menacing and wanton cadre since independence.

Thank you and good work magistrate Jacob Mbolela for applying the law as provided. The country needs more people like you in the judiciary.

    • Okey, but we need to see MMD cadres being arrested as well.

MMD cadres were never arrested for this non-sense when they were in power, so bravo to the PF for showing no bias.

  1. God help us. its really painful to be swindled money but also painful to see your friend going to prison only God can do something here.

  2. This will indeed send a signal to would be offenders to tread carefully. These cadres bahave as if Choma town is theirs. They found it, they will leave it. Let them know that the other name for the town is, ‘Choma maanu, wabula maanu chakulya’.

  3. “…wept loudly in the docket as most of their relatives joined in shedding tears outside the court.” Really, LT? In the DOCKET? Wow! you really have to be extremely poor in the use of the English language to not know the difference between “doc” and “docket”!

  4. Good job this is something one never saw during MMD ruin…. People PF is working of course with tribalism working against us and a small rotten corrupt people and human error decisions but 60% committed to making Zambia better place…I love my PF Viva and Viva Sata
