The Zambia Police Service has advised owners of vehicles that are impounded and then cleared after investigations to immediately collect their motor vehicles from police premises around the country.
Inspector General of Police Stellah Libongani has warned that the delay would force the state to auction the vehicles because they make police premises very untidy.
Ms. Libongani told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka that police stations were not garages hence no private vehicle should be kept there for a long time.
She observed that some impounded vehicles have remained parked at police premises despite being cleared by traffic officers.
She has since directed all Officers In-Charge to ensure that unclaimed vehicles found at police stations were duly auctioned through the courts in accordance with the provisions of the law.
The Inspector General of Police further explained that the police usually notifies car owners to pick their vehicles but regretted that some were rather adamant to comply with the law.
Ms. Libongani could however not state how long vehicles should stay at police premises after being cleared of investigations.
Can some explain to me the mining of the word senile
Senile means disorientated
Confused, forgetful or failing
Iwe Shiki Shipemu you cant mine the word Senile. Its a word you get to after walking this earth for about 92 years. Even when you find it you wont know what it mines- because you will be too old to mine anything.
forgetful, confused, or otherwise mentally less acute in later life
“Vehicles make the premises untidy”, please ba IG what are you talking about?
Good move Madam Libongani, even night parking must not be allowed @police stations, parking levy has ended up in senior officers pockets, when driving my own car,l can,t even find parking space when l report for work due to a number of” ramshackle’ vehicles from BE-FORWARD parked at police premises.Keep it up madam.
boast-full I.D.I.O.T
Where did you buy your car that sounds so expensive when you do not have a parking space at your house and depends on and competes for police parking space!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nibwela kutenga….hope you havent removed corner lamps tyres battery, side mirrors, headlamps etc…coz yeah…buju ni oshupa. even when u pay parking fee they steal parts…smh
@Rizzo,
thats exactly my worry.
most of those vehicles were driven there by the owners but cannot be driven out of there because they cannot move due to missing spare parts. removed by who, how, when? cos i thought police stations are the ‘most safe’ places to park your car.
in fact most of these taxi drivers around, even boast openly that they buy spare parts from police officers. makes me wonder……
Senile, according Berlitz Dictionary means the act of becoming confused, lack of memory and failure to look after oneself due to old age.
dodoma thats where l work and dont be fooled that cops have no standards, quality is my virtue,l would rather wait other than getting those poorly serviced second hand..
I have never seen a tidy police station in Zambia, with or without cars parked there!!!
Kikikikikiki
hehhehehe
Some police stations now looks like damping sites for old scrap automobiles.Usually accident damaged vehicles are wracked to the traffic police yards.
No damaged vehicle be allowed to be parked near police stations/posts or for that matter anywhere in public. Owners shall be responsible for their removal and parking.
For impounded vehicles, police shall be made to pay for any part went missing and it shall be recovered from the salaries of all police officers of the rank of Superintendent and above in charge of the relevant police station/post/district. And IG and her immediate reporting officers shall be made to pay a part of their salaries till this menace is not sorted out and a private parking place for impounded place is not found to park such vehicles at owner’s cost and the Parking Lot’s owner’s risk against theft and fire.
Ba IG give back the m/vs for mmd.
Why is Police even involved with impounding vehicles in the first place, it was understandable in the past when we had a few cars on our roads; this role should have been solely designated to the City council or a City impound yard.
police stations look like wreck yards in zed…..
im just having a vision of chelston police station now, i dont know how it is now, but when i was there, the place looked like a bronze age site, scrap metal yake yake, the office building itself awe sure.
Establish scrap yards where they can be charged or freely sold off at scrap price.
mining! Ulichi kopo !
