President Michael Sata has with immediate effect retired Mr. Emmanuel Mwamba as Permanent Secretary Cabinet Office.

This is contained in a press satement relesed to the media by his press aid George Chellah.

“This is to confirm that with immediate effect, you have been retired in National Interest. I wish to thank you most sincerely for the services you rendered to the Government during your tenure of office,” read President Sata’s letter to Mwamba in part.

The Head of State has wished Mr. Mwamba success in his future endeavours.

On Monday President took Mr Mwamba to task for not consulting him on the issuance of nationwide radio licence to Radio Phoenix. QFM was also granted a radio nationwide radio broadcasting licence while Muvi TV was given a nationwide television licence.

“And you Mr Mwamba do you know why…stand up.…do you know why the previous administration did not give national wide coverage to all other people apart from ZNBC, do you know why?

“You are very intelligent; you thought all of us are very stupid, you thought all the people who died before independence are stupid. You come to the ministry and start giving coverage to all so that HH (UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema) can now speak on Phoenix, can you tell me the justification,” he said.

The President said the reason why Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) and missionaries were left with the nationwide licences was to protect the integrity of the nation.

“ The opposition sits at Radio Phoenix and you know that very well, you are much aware that persons with shares are not Zambians but you go ahead to approve, did you consult.

“Did you come to see me about it, don’t use my ministry to fight your own political battles, go outside stand on the platform and we can meet you there on the platform, don’t use my Government,” he said.

      These are venom-filled scarely words bane!!Too bad for the unfortunate minister! Well, we all know how valuable and influential radio stations are, every station wants a National wide audience but due to the undemocratic bureaucracy of this nation coverage is limited. Personally revoking the licenses wasn’t a good idea. People need to be educated on what’s happening in their own country.

    • In the mean time he is busy paving way for his son Mulenga Sata to take over as Lusaka district chairman. Then he will appoint him as an MP then Deputy vice president and later Vice president in preparation for him to take over when he retires on health grounds.

      Sata is ill and wants to rest but can not trust any one apart from his son to take over.

      All these plans are under way and will be executed before his situation worsens.

    • Mwebantu muletasha (Be thankful) Sentiments aside. If history and experience serves me well, a case of unregulated radio stations played a role in igniting genocide in Rwanda. Now with the current wave of every mouth speaking “tribalism” at any given chance, makes this a very sensitive time to throw caution to the wind all in the name of press freedom.     • I agree with Saolosi here, actually of all the PSs in PF gvnt, Emmanuel Mwamba was the second best ( best being Dr Chileshe Mulenga). Yes Mwamba had some weaknesses like any other human beings, like fighting Wynter for GBM as one of them. But all in all or to a very large extent he was a professional man and most of his actions were good for the nation not just the PF party. He had the interest of the nation at heart.

    • Emmanuel ‘Fredom of the Media’ Mwamba is now at par with Nelson Mandela and Samora Machel. He did not count his priviledge as something to be protected above the interest of the democratic rights of freedom of speech and press freedom including the freeing of airwaves.   20. I personally feel Mwamba has not lost anything, but Zambia. Reason? He was one of the most hard working civil servants under the PF regime. Giving nationalwide licences to private media houses is long overdue and Mwamba tried his best to open the airwaves which is a plus! I voted for the PF but at the rate they are going, honestly am scared if they will see my vote and those of my close associates. This country is so much behind and taking information to all corners of the land is what we need! Alas, we shall never see that under the PF.   22. How just is the President to retire young people? Dr Martin Malama was retired young, now it is Emmanuel.

    What about the President himself and those in his age bracket, are they not the ones who have reached retirement age?

    There is too much internal movement in this government. Why was Mwamba moved from Information to Statehouse or Cabinet, and then in a matter of days sacked? Why wasn’t he sacked the day he was relocated in the same capacity to another section of government?

Its a tricky world, full of competition, survival of the fittest, each one or group wanting to be better than others, so many tricks, strategies and tactics and one of them is licence for national coverage. Its about winning the platform, selling your agenda. Those without what it takes cannot know at all. Well, compete.

  44. Personally I feel there was nothing wrong Mwamba did to warrant a dismissal. Instead it is Sata who has a problem. He’s playing to the gallery and things will eventually work against him. Apart from the embarrassment Mwamba has suffered for doing the right thing, there is nothing else that should dampen his spirits because his was a nobble cause for the country. Giving nationwide broadcasting licences is not a crime but the right thing to do. What are Sata and the PF afraid of? This clearly shows you that we have a fraudulent government in place. If these chaps were genuine, they would have applauded Mwamba for the good initiative. I feel we must remove this government by all means because they are taking us backwards.     1. as a civil servant avoid the media,mwamba liked the media too much.He believed by appearing on media thats the symbol of hard work.

    2. As a civil servant never allow politicians to use you.People who used you to fight their political battles are no were to be seen.

    4. When making critical decisions that affects the country; please consult widely.

I am a PF supporter but i am not in agreement with this off the hip decision. The president needs to calm down and not be so sensationally emotional. GUY SCOTT said it last time that they were giving everybody a chance to stop and behave on their own; and that those that fail to comply and want to continue attacking Kabimba will face the wrath of the law one by one. TRUE. All those that were being used to insult and harass Kabimba without respect are slowly being weeded out one-by-one and this is happening throughout the country. Meanwhile, GBM has gone mysteriously quiet and suddenly he has started supporting everything that Kabimba says.   64. This is not about Emmanuel. This is about press freedom and freedom of information,. Freedom of information is not just for the journalists and media but also for the citizens. Someone has been fired for giving licences to radio stations that they may cover the country. That is a shame. This is the birth of dictatorship. The President mentioned among his reasons that HH can be covered countrywide if private radio stations are allowed to beam countrywide. These radio stations will not be airing privately to individuals. They will be airing publicly. THere are regulations that govern content. It is easy to monitor them. Abash press muzzling.

  84. I am recommending to the Legislature and judiciary to start impeachment proceedings against MCS by invoking article 37 of the constitution. He is not fit to be Head of State of Zambia. The president is being blackmailed by the oligarchy and the cartel. We need to protect the integrity of the country. Mwamba was just safe guarding our freedom and ensuring that the cartel’s grip of information channels in Zambia are clipped. We entrusted our country into the hands of criminals.

  87. On this one I agree with the President. How can one give licence to a radio station/tv station without doing background checks of the foreign shareholders who tried to enter Zambian media houses through backdoor?
    Erol is selfish on this one. He was expecting sale value to go up once countrywide licence is granted and foreigners take over his station.

If Emmanuel had made a mistake which in my case is not he should have been reprimanded and guided. Emmanuel championed a patriot agenda, it is a shame that a true leader has been dismissed but this is part of growth. Emmanuel has presidential qualities, those close to him should advise him to be calm and take the needed steps to define his political agenda before 2016. Joining MMD and the like of Nevers Mumba, Muhabi, MP Mulusa could be a strategic decission. PF has lost visionary leadership but this is an opportunity to rally behind Nevers Mumba and Co.     • I love freedom of speech more than any politician and Mr Sata is not an exception whatever appendage you give him. Come 2016, I will vote. Those that have worked with you can attest to this fact. Most of us are capable of reading between lines, and are thus well aware of the real reasons why you have been retired.   95. This is long overdue. If it were me, I would not have in the first place given him any position. The chap under Chiluba was too stubborn. Just from the day he was appointed NP PS, I questioned the rationale behind that appointment but I just concluded that Sata has a forgiving heart. Atleast he was even given that opportunity but because he joined hands with bena GBM,Nsanda and other crooks to try and disturb the leadership of the PF using his positions, he could not be allowed to continue. Mind you, Sata knows that chap and his crookedness very well. He was FTJ’S student of master dribbling, thus ba mudala could not allow him to continue doing that under his leadership.Atleast as a parent, Sata gave him time to try and change by putting him in defferent ministries but the guy can’t…

  96. I wish to advise and seriously so that “The Press Builds and also Destroys”. Mwamba was overzealous with using the Press to portray himself as a Hardworker on, everything, everywhere, anywhere, anyhow, anything, anybody. As Permanent Secretary for Information you are not PS for News – you implement and monitor policy implementation of Government. Mwamba became news himself – everyday, every news item, every TV coverage, every Radio Bulletin. The Press also should refrain from following the PS Information everyday, everyweek for him/her to churn out “News”. I beg that any new PS should not preoccupy himself/herself with making news or being a perpetual newsmaker. Mwamba with his Big Body and Big Mouth destroyed himself. His is Political Suicide.

  99. Sata’s day is coming soon when he will sweat. Mwamba is still in the game. Knowing him, he is a very smart guy who has the country at heart. The Zambian people have lost what they deserve. What a shame. Pf is afraid of its own shadow. Sata is making his party very unpopular. He rules by default and its frightening. Am in diaspora and am Zambian like anybody else. We will continue castigating the current govt until the people win or sata develop a brain tumor.

  100. Whose national Interests? This is in government interests. Access to unbiased information for all is what qualifies at national interest. Ubukopo ba Kateka. We are not stupid. Mr. Mwamba is not the stupid either for giving people access to information. That leaves someone else… and we all know who it is.
