President Michael Sata has commissioned works for the upgrading of the Kitwe-Chingola road and expanding it into a dual carriageway.

The President commissioned the K561 million works this morning in Kitwe’s Mindolo area.

Mr. Sata, who was accompanied by the First Lady Christine Kaseba, Transport, Works, Supply and Communication Minister Yamfwa Mukanga and Foreign Affairs Minister Wylber Simuusa, directed the Chinese contractor to employ a local workforce.

“You should only bring in expatriates from China, the rest of the workers should be these Zambians,” he said.

The President further told the youths to get the jobs so that they can have more money in their pockets.

“If you want more money in your pockets you have to work for it, so you should get these jobs,” he said.

And speaking earlier, Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Minister Yamfwa Mukanga observed that the country can only attain sustainable development if there was a good road network.

“No sustainable development can take place unless we have good roads,” he said.

He further said the Road Development Agency (RDA) was keen to ensure that the road works countrywide were finished on time.

Meanwhile, Copperbelt Province Minister Mwenya Musenge said the upgrading of the Kitwe-Chingola road to a dual carriageway will help reduce road carnage that has been experienced on the road for a long time now.

“Mr. President, allow me to note that the dual carriage way for this road will help to curtail the road carnage that we have been experiencing in the past on this road,” he said.

The road works are expected to be completed after two years.

  1. Awesome ! That`s my hardworking president right there.Hey ba LT whats this thing am hearing that Yamfwa Mukanga found himself on the receiving end of the cobra`s venom ? I have heard that the old man had no kind words for him.Give us more data please.

    • yaba.. `bring only expatriates from china` or is it bring only experts??… expatriates are not always expert!!!

wow!!! @soulosi, so you do pip through the ZWD window also,,, i thought you hated ZWD with a passion, saying that they were alarmist and liars

    • @ndobo…i once in a while go to ZWD but when i do it i normally just read the first 2 to 3 sentences of their stories because they have a tendency of adding juicy to their stories. For example instead of just reporting about what happened when the cadres were fighting you will find ZWD adding things like “the cadres instigating the fight are part of the Sudanese trained PF militia that Hikainde Hichilema talked about.A claim which government has refused but confirmed by our inside sources.”

    • @soulosi
great!! you should also be going through first 2 to 3 sentences in the holy post newspapers and see how they try to blame HH for personally hacking PF cadre komaki

    • So Saulosi after hacking your friends with machetes, you are back now. You and your President are cowards you only creep out when commissioning but when lives are lost, you hide!! You personally change into the ka ***** blogger called Jo.

    • @UPND Cadre from Ngombe Compound Lsk…please don`t compare me to that Jo guy.I`m far much better than that. You will never see me talking in tribal lines or be a petty supporter.By the way i have been quite because i have been busy with school. This is toward the end of the semester so you shouldn’t expect me here all the time@ndobo…ok point taken i will try that. The Komaki incidence is quite sad just to say but the least.

    • @Mad…mwafilwa ukuchita contribute to the story but have opted to insult Saulosi.Nimwebo mwebatumpa yama and not him.

    • Iwe Silos we know you are the same person who blogs as Jo and other pseudo names. In your true style all your characters went quiet when the story of the hacking came out. Ukutumpa!!! People are dying and in your usual chisu*shi style you busy Sata! Sata! Do you have a heart we chisu*shi?

    • @mad this is the last time i`m responding to you.If you think i`m the so called Jo then you must have a few cells misfiring in your central nervous system.I will give you an idea go to Lusaka times and track my i.p address and compare them.Just because you can sink so low at times(judging from your choice of words) doesn’t mean that Saulosi can do the same.We might differ in political opinions that shouldn’t give you a reason to insult or call me names.I wont insult you back because it is not my nature.Bless you.

    • Says the man who came into power by preaching the words below
“i shall not work with the chinese” furthermore “the chinese are taking our money”

    • @Saulosi, you should have kept that Sata’s insult at Mukanga secretly. Yes its true, Ba Sata told Mukanga that “ulichipuba or walitumpa”, but it was in a very low voice. But everyone could see Mukanga’s face that he was mad… nga achiposa, but Sata’s body-guard smartly stood up to give Sata water.
      First time Sata drunk bottled-water.

    • Silos Jo despite being illiterate is beginning to look like a star compared to you with a Master’s degree. Master’s iya fisu*shi.

    • Sata the road commissioner is doing well at his job. But Sata the president is fast asleep. Only wakes up when its time take up the role of a Road commissioner.

I have never heard the old man Kabob Mugabe busy commissioning roads. I think Sata is the only President who takes pride in road commissioning instead of showing real leadership on matters such as law and order in the country.

Anyway I know its because from roads alelyamo sana, adyalamo kwambili, mwalida kabotu maningi. That why RDA was moved to state house.

From today I start calling him Sata the road commissioner.

    • I am one person who do like to add comments on any online paper. But the friction between Saulosi and Mad has forced me to say, Saulosi you are a brave guy. Saulosi you are using your heard correctly and there is peace were you are. But with Mad, am sorry to say as his name is so he is. These comments you post here do not just end like this but they attract a judgement somehow. So mind the way you add up your words.

Saulosi, I do not know you and i do not want to know you but I say Hands up and kip it up bro.

NB: I do not belong to any political part and will never be. God bless Zambia, God bless you all.

  2. After the completion of the Dual carriage all you Zambian drivers should go for new driving lessons including the police force! Am somehow excited i have no idea why.

  3. Mr President, the cold war era is long gone, the rouge states are also no more, no one wears those safari suits anymore. The last people to wear them were the Chinese.

  4. Finally, this all we need. Not bye elections cost that just sinks money for nothing. We need more of such works than mere political rhetorics. Well done, everyone even opposition will like this one. So many lives lost on this road todate. Thanks.

    • There is four more bye elections on the way. Its just the coffers to finance them are almost depleted, thats why the rate at which MR Road Commissioner is nullifying the seats and bribing opposition MPs to join PF has gone down.

  5. This is a serious development project. No country has ever developed without good roads.Keep it up Mr President and let people like HH keep yapping!!This is what we voted for not just holding meetings, press conferences, workshops and endless meaningless ralies!!Watch out MMD and UPND!! 2016 da PF will still be in power!!

    • Compare the developments of MMD under RB to what is happening.WE WANT PEACE.THE PEACE WE HAVE ENJOYED UNDER UNIP AND MMD.WHAT DEVELOPMENT ARE YOU BOASTING ABOUT WHEN LIVES ARE BEING LOST?WHAT INVESTORS ARE WE GOING TO ATTRACT AS A COUNTRY WITH SUCH VIOLENCE?

  6. Has there been a change in protocol? The First Lady is the one standing behind the president as opposed to security personnel. Gives the impression that she was ready to catch him at any time in case he falls. Hmmmmm.

  7. Serious what a life roads don’t put food on anyone’s table, aside from building roads don’t Forget about maintenance , hope the one building has a plan on how to sustain
Those roads when it comes to upkeep

    • Sir jealousy down good roads is cardinal. If you are on the other side if the camp bad for you the boat is sailing well done PF.THe international community is happy and we are yet to see much development trust me I live in Europe every one is taking about investing in Africa especially Zambia

    • Sata is the man of action indeed, the Kitwe-Chingola, dual carriageway was first planned by late valentine Musakanya but KK could not support it. Here we are just 2 years in office, the man of action gives live and hope to travelers on the copperbelt and beyond.

    • Chikwanda, you are lost because its not the responsibility of the government to put food on your table whilst you cross your arms. Look around the region there are road developments everywhere. A closed mind is like a closed book, just a block of wood. We accepted poverty as a way of life.

  8. It is really hard to blame Sata. It is the people who tolerate this abuse that I find difficult to understand. Surely if any of them had any modicum of self respect and self-esteem they would stand up to this no.n.s.ense and resign!! But no, they are quite happy to take the abuse and smile sheepishly!!

  9. Well done Mr President this is good for our country. We will remember you in 2016 and for sure you will leave a mark.New districts new Universities new Stadiums new hospitals new roads …what can the opposition say to this?

  10. Viable Project with real options .Encourage the rail PPP for Kav as well.

Officially been asked to continue my contributions only on economy and Financial segment of LT by many to make a positive effect on LT

Will do it factually and objectively without any inclination supporting positive efforts

  11. WHICH PRESIDENT, SINCE THE DEPARTURE OF THE FOUNDING FATHER OF OUR NATION, KK, HAS PUT SO MUCH EFFORT IN DEVELOPING AND UPGRADING OUR INFRASTRUCTURE..WHICH PRESIDENT, WHICH PRESIDENT? CHILUBA, LEVY AND RB PUT TOGETHER, SO MANY PROJECTS..IN SUCH A SHORT SPACE OF TIME?

    PLEASE TELL ME

WITH THE COMPLETION OF L400, I WILL NOW BE ABLE TO MOVE AROUND LUSAKA STREETS WITHOUT A SHOE BRUSH IN MY JACKET.

THE LUAPULA VOTE WILL SURELY AND ALWAYS BE RESERVED FOR THE PROJECT ‘INITIATOR’ AND ‘IMPLEMENTER’.

    • but you 1diot, votes are not cast from europe or america, we have no such system yet. we vote from within the country. well, sorry chilubale, vote for obama may be

  12. This is a no brainer. A dual carriage is long overdue between Kitwe and Chingola. It has been talked about since the Kaunda era. As a matter of fact, it should be extended to Solwezi under phase2 project, if only the President’s salary can be reduced, the number of Govt ministers and their deputies can be reduced, and yes reduce bye elections.

    • Cactus, yes your is a valid point. This government can do so much better if only they listened to the advise above. Intentions are good but politics are a stambling block.

  13. That is very good work PF nangu muzatisiya munkongole. We should put tollgates on that dual carriage way so we create employment and take a few coins for paying back the loan! The mines will benefit more on that road and hence the need for them to pay for using the road!

  14. Let us start the Livingtone-Nakonde one, Mansa Nchelenge, Lusaka Chipata, Lusaka Mongu, Chingola – Mwinilunga and Solwezi- Zambezi ones toooo! Z working government can do it!

    • Solwezi – Zambezi dual carriage way my foot!!!!!!!!!!!! there is no traffic beyond Mutanda junction. That’s why you have single lane bridges in Kabompo, Zambezi and Chavuma. Dual carriage way to that of the country would be a waste of time and money. Keep koona madala!

  15. Only in Africa do Presidents think they have done well for what they have been put in office to do! Its like a milkman delivering milk. What is so great in building a road? The cow is standing so proud that he is building a road from revenues he did not create. What has MCS done differently to generate more revenues other that collect taxes and royalties from the mines and poor Zambians?

    • What spot has he hit by failing to see the obvious? Yes a president should be motivated by encouraging him & commending him when he does the job he is elected to do. Similarly when a president is lazy, carnal minded, a thief and/or a drunk, he should be condemned and voted out. It is not the president who finds alternative tax resource base, it is the creation of a good economic environment due to good policies, infrastructure development and service delivery that creates investment and jobs leading to wealth creation hence government can tax the wealth and have extra resources.
Open your minds and smell the coffee!

    • @MundiaM

I want you to study the adage; “the hungry are angry”in details. Then try to fit it in your perspective.
Who ever told you that economic development is just infrastructure lied to you big time. Who will use those roads if people are starving and dying like rats because of disease and hunger. Development should take holistic approach with all the sectors of economy considered at the same time. Most of us are not objecting to infrastructural development. It is a good thing if its coupled with good governance in which the citizens can afford to buy decent food , enjoy good health and freedoms. We shall see if people will vote for PF because of construction projects on an empty stomach. What would you rather do if you have less money and no food, pay rent or buy food for your…

    • I was in Zambia a few months ago (Kasama), and I will soon be going back.
I have not been to the CB, for about 30yrs now. Reasons for never again going to Chingola are personal. I might have a lot of money but at times I still feel broke.
      LOL.

    • PF Leader, send me money and I will go, even if I do not have family in Zambia.
As a fact I will go anywhere you like. Free money ….

  16. It amazes me still that the entire Head of State should go and commission road works for the expansion of a road. Vote buying at play.

  17. BA MUDALA NABAMBA UKUPENTA TU GO BLACK MUMUTWE PAKUTI KASEBA ABAMONE BWINO? PATALI, 26 YEARS DIFFERENCE. BODY GUARD KASEBA WACHITA BWINO UKWIMININA KUNUMA PANTU MUDALA KUTI APONA ANY TIME.

  18. Too late for my brother and his friend, MTSRIP!!! At least a dual carriageway is being put in place. My brother’s blood has added to the conviction the politicians are feeling in finally deciding to act on this death trap of a road. This is just the beginning, Zambia is teeming with death traps. Sort them out them please!!! More so that most the drivers have back door driver’s licences and most of the cars on our roads are autorecs.

  19. the road development is good. now we must let the mines contribute to their share to its development. im tired of subsidizing the mines. they r the 1z who cause most damage to it there4 they must take more resposibility.

    • i totally agree with you, some people are just here to fill up the numbers, it would have been better not even reply to him. Why worry when the person is between mad and mental hospital.

  21. Sata you dont have respect for your wife how can you let your wife stand behind your ass in case of any emergency fellow zambian who is in charge of presidential security at house or when travelling outside jungle lusaka this is negligence your Sata need help you kapokola protect your sick president dont listen to him just do your job to protect him protocol is very important…

  22. But umumeni Yamfwa Mukanga Bali mushauta!! To the extent yakumweba ati walitumpa!! I felt so bad. But Ba Sata? Fwebabula temperament teti tubombe pantu kuti waposa ikofi ilibi sana or spit on him and walk away.

  23. amazing how people who visit this website never seem to comment on other issues that the site reports on. Only political issues and the spiced ones for that.Look beyond your affiliation if at all you belong to political parties. This country is ours and for future generations. Your comments are all insults and nothing progressive but condemnation and all. Sorry. Be broad minded you lot.
