The Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) is saddened by the continued use of Police by the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) as a tool of intimidation.
FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza says what was witnessed at Woodlands Police Station where United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema was summoned for questioning is totally unacceptable in a democratic country.
Mr. Mwanza has since appealed to parliamentarians seriously consider making amendments to the Zambia Police Act so as to ensure that no one is seen to be favored by the Police but every citizen is protected.
He says the Zambia Police Act in its current state is still aligned to the one party system of governance.
He adds that the country cannot continue with a system where men and women in uniform are being used by politicians to intimidate political opponents.
Mr. Mwanza has further advised the police to be professional in the way they carry out their duties and ensure that they protect all citizens regardless of political affiliation.
Meanwhile Mr. Mwanza says the FDD supports calls for the resignation of Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba to allow the tribunal constituted to probe him to smoothly investigate him.
He says it is only morally right that Mr. Kabimba steps down.
The only thing I dont understand is the norm of Young men following someone to the station, also I dont like Zambiaaan police force, they are wors than the S*****d Cops in Movies!
COBRA the BEAST used to be escorted whenever he was summoned for whatever wrong he committed. He insulted others and called them names. Today, the BEAST has the audacity to order the arrest someone for simply being told to listen to advise, and not to be a cumbu mushololwa (a sweet potato). MAMPARA of the week indeed.
As much as it is primitive for the cadres to always accompany someone in such large number, the police had no right to use such force on unarmed people. Zambia has slide into Pre-colonial era where chiefs ruled with no to Quesion their activities.
You talk too much guys, don’ t you know the I’ m the Supreme Leader of this country such that the Army and the Police fear me to the bone ? Watch out !!!!
Where have you been FDD? Some parties which have less than 10 members only spring up after the risks have already been taken up by UPND or MMD. These family parties are simply followers and opportunists. No wonder they do not mind marrying and travelling with CHUMBU MUNSHOLOLWA on an economic – political trip to Brazil
CUMBU MUNSHOLOLWA SIMPLY MEANS A PERSON WHO DOES NOT TAKE ADVICE,IT HAS NEVER BEEN AN INSULT.
@mulamu ya we understand very well what it means but why explain it ? Ya ! Soon bloggers will need to account for what they write…and in trouble for fake alarms.
