NGOCC welcomes conviction of General Kanene

Share

The Non Governmental Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) welcomes the conviction of renowned Zambian musician, Clifford Dimba, also popularly known as General Kanene for the offence of having carnal knowledge of a minor.

As an organisation, we have been deeply concerned at the ever-increasing sexual cases against women and girls in particular.
It is totally unacceptable and barbaric for men to continue abusing innocent and sometimes vulnerable young girls. Studies have shown that the effects of sexual abuse of young girls is intense, not only to the victim by to society as a whole.

We hope therefore that the conviction and subsequent sentencing of General Kanene will serve as a deterrent to other would be criminals who indulge of these evil acts.

We would like to take this opportunity to appeal to our Courts to re-look at the punishment for these sexual offences, as the current ones do not seem to be acting as a deterrent enough given the increased cases.

As the women’s movement, we shall not rest until all criminals that sexually abuse women and girls are brought to book.

  1. Ba LT. Your the ones reporting, therefore, you need to explain what happened in brief. I am lost.

    • Maybe she is not underage after all.The parents of the girl couldn’t produce a birth certificate. These bafana if they want to mess you they can.I once escaped by a whisker when a chi 19 year old wanted to play the underage trap on me.Luckily I had friends who retrieved her birth records from the hospital. The moral of the story is be careful where you deep.

    • Indeed poor reporting. How do u talk about the someone’s response to the case without giving the background of the case on which the response is based? Ya..

  2. General Kanene when entering the Kasangala track , shouted ” ndi Mupondo” and his fellow prisoners cheered him. Is he going to endure 25 years in prison? Any way ni Mupondo for sure.

peace and Prosperity to mother zambia.

  3. We need a National Mourning for Dennis Lota…. Atleast 5days.. This will also give an opportunity for People to stop calling radio stations and campaign for tribalist HH…

  4. got what he deserves. on the other hand engwase mwale should know that its not the courts that come up with these prescribed sentences but our lawmakers.appealling to the courts to relook at the punishment sounds like barking at the wrong tree.

  5. Ingwase Mwale, do you know that the harshest sentence on earth which a court can impose, is the death penalty? Have criminals stopped killing people because of the deterrent death sentence? If the death sentence is not deterrent enough, what sentence on earth would be deterrent? And in case you didn’t know, and you don’t know anyway, defilement and rape carry a minimum of 15 years imprisonment and a maximum of life imprisonment! Are these sentences not deterrent enough? And these sentences are prescribed by Parliament, NOT the courts! And by the way, why don’t you also rant something about women who abuse boys and men?

  6. Kanene sure ! The philosophy of “akana ka ngwena kakulila kwitete” has now leteleladi you.You should have curbed your itete.I feel for you bro.

  7. does it mean that only men are criminals of sexual abuse vice? when you talk about s/abuse also make mention of women who abuse young men and boys by seducing them to do those illicit acts. there are evil women are spared: and please tell your girls to learn to dress like normal human beings; if you advertise, you actually want to boost your sales to the general public. NOWADAYS a girl will look like she is twenty three when she is actually 13-14, and most of them walk in the streets half naked if not totally nude; to me thus saying that ” all men here i am and am ready for you”. so as long as they cant change their immoral way of dressing, i doubt the decrease of such cases like of dimba. the kanene mind you, not all of us in Zambia
    are holy ghost filled christian.

    • Its very very rare for women to abuse boys though it happens but us men have gone just too far. The community ought to change. Mumangeni Kanene uyo

    • Sexual abuse perceptions in Zed is the same as the perception of same-sex activity; only the male is hit on when it comes to that side of the two vices…

  8. How many years have they given him? Ati chaponena! Kwisa?… Mujele! by the time he comes out he will not be a virgin on both fronts. Balemulepaula ku matako bamambala. A lesson why people, (including politicians) must avoid that institution.

  9. i entirely agree to punish those who defiles v.young girls/boys; eg under 10years;as for the rest, three quarters its willingly. because you as parents have bought them tv and they watch all manners of miracles in their bedrooms when you are asleeb.so they want to employ buy putting it into practice. if u say, tell me what makes them to dress shamelessly? girls dress prostitution way as the bible states in prov7:10.so they also contribute to such crimes.

  10. ”We would like to take this opportunity to appeal to our Courts to re-look at the punishment for these sexual offences, as the current ones do not seem to be acting as a deterrent enough given the increased cases.”

Madam please name on country that has achieved what you are proposing?Instead of filling up our prisons with productive young men,why don’t your organization mount a campaign to go around schools to educate both boys and girls.
How mush does it cost to maintain a prisoner per year?Multiply that with the total number of prisoners in the whole country.
The USA has some of the harshest sentences in the world but look at their crime rates.

  11. You must lobby your lawmakers, Mwale, not the courts. The courts are still using archaic legal tenets because your lawmakers are busy increasing their allowances and gratuity while chasing around imaginary enemies…

  12. There z a pothole on road and first aider are there awaiting sam 1 to hurt and then offer him/her first aid, instead of working on the pot hole b4 any accident.young girls are busy in bars ngabakadoda at defilement, pliz councils and police arrest even thoz chaps 2 avoid such cases out there.ulemona kuti mwaice anwa ubwalwa bwabula incito.
