Transparency International Zambia has welcomed the conviction of former President Rupiah Banda’s son Andrew for abuse of office.

TIZ has also welcomed the swearing in of a Tribunal to probe allegations against Tourism and Arts Minister Sylvia Masebo.

TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu says these events send a good signal in the fight against corruption that even serving Ministers can be brought before the law and made to account for their actions.

Mr. Lungu has further commended the Lusaka Magistrate Courts for dispensing justice without fear or favor on Andrew Banda who was a senior diplomat.

He has strongly advised government leaders to always lead by example and to be accountable for their actions and remain above board all the time and learn from Mr. Banda’s conviction.

Mr. Lungu adds that for Ms. Masebo, she should use the Tribunal to account for all her actions in relation to the allegations raised against her.

He said this in a statement issued today.

  1. others still feel its political persecution even with all the evidence presented.I wonder what is going in the minds of all those who were paraded in support of him.

  2. Ba TIZ, it’s not good to celebrate somebody’s misery. What is there to be happy about when somebody goes to the chukes.Yes it is a lesson for others but you don’t need to be happy. It is a sad situation.

  3. I just wish reports did not call Andrew Banda, as Rupiah Banda’s son in the first sentence and paragraph. He is identifiable by himself as a politician, former diplomat and businessman on his own the same we don’t say Sata’s son Lusaka Mayor, Mulenga. The case and conviction and appeal have no link with RB. How come Henry Banda is called a businessman. In sports, Joe Bwalya, Felix Katongo, Nathan Sinkala etc have stood on their own.

Let’s then dwell on the case details not the person especially the redefinition of corruption that convicts only the recipient and NOT the giver. I thought Mulusa lost his seat as a giver!

  4. We hope this will stand including people like Mulenga Sata if they abuse office. Many PF members will also get through this. Come 2016

  5. These days you just never know with the current rotten justice system. So we’ll ignore the little man’s comments. Could we get comments from credible and impartial people please?! TIZ my foot

  6. iTS POLITICAL how many pipo solicite for commission in CONTRACTS? HE never brought those pipo as investors but business men, u have jailed him since he was advocating for all opposition parties to UNITE, I KNOW he will be out before ERECTIONS and he will not have any chance to unite the opposition, WHY IS RB QUITE?
