Information and Broadcasting Minister Mike Mulongoti says he shall not apologize to the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) over remarks attributed to him in a tabloid news paper where he is quoted as describing lawyers participating in the constitutional process as ”quacks”.
Mr. Mulongoti said this in Mufulira today during a meting held with stakeholders over the constitutional making process.
The information minister said he was neither afraid of facing LAZ in any law suit because he was merely expressing his opinion, adding that LAZ should accept that it had problems within its circles.
He added that LAZ should arrive at maintaining its integrity and professionalism which was questioned by some of its members before the annual general meeting where Elijah Banda was elected as president.
Mr. Mulongoti added that the integrity of LAZ would always be in contention unless
some of its members changed their attitudes and approach over constitutional matters.
The Chief Government spokesperson said he was not the first one to issue such
disparaging remarks against LAZ but that he was merely adding to what members within the association had actually put on record.
The Information Minister added that LAZ should not think that it was the only competent body that had the monopoly over the constitutional making process and
should thus desist from speaking on behalf of the silent majority.
In today’s Post News Paper edition, LAZ President Mr. Banda said the legal fraternity had been taken aback by the remarks attributed to the Information Minister and have demanded for an apology from him.
ZANIS
Mulongoti, no need to apologise,Truth Hurts, and thats why lawyers are hurt because they are really quacks.A quack is a cheat, actor and lawyers starting from your Boss “LPM”,Kunda etc and all your coleagues are in the same bracket.
Lawyers are the most dishonesty and conmen on earth, your boss “LPM” when he was VP under FTJ wanted the constitution to be adopted through the CA, but today he is President he wants Parley.
A big pretender, hypocrite and flimflam man.
What Mulongoti should have said is we are all “quacks”
Mulongoti you have hit the nail on the head, lawyers are indeed quacks, starting with LPM who came to power through quacks means. He has continued to be quackish by companioning CA to be adopted through Parley. What a cheat and dishonesty president we have.
As much as I agree with the two contributors above #1 Kayata and #2 AM, I feel as people at the helm of authority we need to select words to use. There are children who always look upon us as idols. These children are the future of tommorrow. Exposing them to such words will lead to their total destruction. They will even be failing to negotiate for trade because their volcaburalies will be full of filthy words. There are terms that one can use indirectly but meaning the same thing through labouring around. As leaders, I feel we have to desist from such ineptitude behaviour. In reality, though what one is expressing is 100% correct, just because of one bad word, the whole thing becomes bad.It is too early for Hon Mulongoti to start using such words. What of the time he will gain ground-are we going to be spared as a general populace? Please Honourable get back on the right track. It is a pit that what has already come out of one’s mouth can not be swallowed back.
As a government spokesman, should the nation take your statement as the official Government stand on LAZ or is this your personal view?
#3 anonymous,
#3 was written by me Nkhataboy. I forgot to attach the name the moment I was posting the blog.Sorry colleagues about that misharp.
It is sad that the Government spokesman should be using such language. You have only been in your position for a month and the rate at which you are going you will be without a job soon.Dont try so hard to impress LPM,because you will only end up messing up big time.
Mulongoti, becareful on where you tread.LPM, Kunda, plus the whole bunch of lawyers in the MMD are products of LAZ , so are you saying that they are quacks also? As a civil servant you need to humble your self and dont be confrontational. If the public view your comments as insulting you just need to apologise.Dont be emotional over the constitution everyone has a right to express their feelings it is not your show alone
A minister is not a civil servant. He’s a politician with allegiance to the appointing power. That’s why ‘Hon’ Minister Mulongoti’s trying so hard. He should not bite more than he can chew. But then the sirens have already been stet off!
Mulongoti , you are the mouth piece of the Government so mind your language.Dont label pipo names just because they have different views from you. This is a democracy and that is why we need a better constitution so that peoples rights are more defined. You are fast proving that you are an empty tin and a bootlicker.
# 8 thanx for the correction but whoever Mulongoti is his days are numbered
mulongoti your days are numbered pantu iwe you think kwati nu gk mu memory recall te? be real and respect pipo who elavated you where you are now. 4 yrs to go you will be like kamalondo. oh my heart its only 1 yr to go b4 LPM show your a red card te?
mulongoti your days are numbered pantu iwe you think kwati nu gk mu memory recall te? be real and respect pipo who elavated you where you are now. 4 yrs to go you will be like VJ. oh my heart its only 1 yr to go b4 LPM show your a red card te?
I have confidencial report that muloongoti went to school with gk that why they all think in the reverse way te? hard lucky bafana.
Hey, give the man a break. The poor chap does not really grasp the responsibilities that come with the role of Government spokesman. The man does not understand that whatever comes out of his mouth at public fora may be quickly and in most cases correctly attributed to government. He should ask VJ!! At the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting one wrong statement such as suggesting that your boss is a quak is like buying a one way ticket to unemployment land. The word is out already!! We have a quak for leader of the executive and a thick minister of Information..Shame what a waste of ballot papers
INTELLECT AND CREDIBLE INDIVIDUALS Sisy Nonhlanhla and Chimwemwe have advised so well.
Hon.Mulongoti take their advise.
No need for duplication.
Mulongoti needs to calm down and behave as an Honourable person.Zambia is a democratic state and as such peoples diverse views are supposed to be protected.Mulongoti might be on cruise control to try and penetrate LPM`s innercircle of bootlickers as he`s seen an openning for the Presidency 2011.Take a deep breath and navigate your tongue accordingly.Free advice to Mulongoti is that he makes sure he engages his brain before he puts his mouth in gear.
Greetings!
This is a sad development. How can we have such temperament in Government? Mr minister you potraying very intoralable sentiments. LAZ is a proffesional body and does not deserve to be rebuked in the manner in which you are. Granted you disagree with thier stand and that is within your rights. However to speak on record the way you are is dissapointing.
Please use a more respectful tone when addressing others. you are after all a representative of government and as such we expect you to lead by example. Should all those that oppose your policies as government address you in such a way. I think as a dignified person you would take exception to that. So stand up as a leader and retract your statement. Air your view but respect others that disagree with you.
Ministers come and go but we shall all forever be Zambians and in Zambia we stand to respect. One ZAmbia! One nation!
loadist out!
What Mulongoti ought know is that, LPM changes like a chameleon and that he has fired more ministers in 7 years than any past presidents we have had. Think before you open your loud mouth mr minister. Dont you know that your boss belongings to the same association you are insulting? And he get waked up over small things. Tawaishiba ati LPM wangulu, ngashabuka tawamutemwe. WATCH IT MAN.
please apologise hon minister and save your face otherwise you may face alaw suit for slander and the state will not defend you at all. u were born alone and certain things you do are individualistic. remeber that lpm is also a member of laz as well as kunda. so even if you make an unreasonable admin decision do not expect the state thru ag’s chambers to defend you kaile they are also laz members. quacks as you call them.since when did a duck defend a person at court.
ducks only quack and swim in water so let them be and go and defend yourself in the event there is court action and what will your defence be as alay person coz no “quack’will be willing to defend you.
we wd really like to see how far the legal arguments wd go.
twapapata just say sorry. u wont lose anything u will just gain some respect and a leadership quality called humiliation.that is all you will get.
watch out even mw is a chair of the womens lawyers associa wc is part of laz. learn to read btn the lines
This is indeed blind loyalty, when things are in their favour they rejoice and shower praises to the so called whistle blowers , when it is done the way round they would be called quacks, what a nation with no wise men, not even any from the east. The worst are those in my neighbour hood, ndola rural.Shame to you all who can not show principle but keep moving ukwalola umwela.
If LAZ is full of quacks then LPM,Mrs LPM, George and other lawyers in MMD govt are quacks. Poor Mulongoti watch your big mouth. Remember you are just a simple party cadre, how dare you insult educated men and women of the bar. I ask Levy to fire you to day, if not then he is a quack.
Bakayata boss, this is what it means,100% in agreement dis-honouralbe mulongoti, is in a fastest lane wanting to prove himself to lpm. what can you expect from a senior MMD cadre.
Back to business, it will take the pipo of zambia to fight any roadblocks being mounted by lpm & sons.
if mulongoti will last on this position for 6 months nishi kwena mwaume sana.
Mulongoti must understand that there have been more sturbbon polititians before him who have fallen on the way side.
He must learn to tolerate other people’s views.
I always wonder why the leaders of today can never learn from leaders like, grey zulu, mudenda just to name a few who knew how handle public service. It’s disapponting for mike to use ubusive languge, especially of his status as a gvt spokesperson.
Therefore, talking too much does not make mike hard working but it shows backwards someone is.
I wonder what kapwepwe would say about today’s crop of leaders?
#1 Kayata and #2 AM, What were you thinking of to acknowledge and support insults from a senior government official? A cabinet minister for that matter who has express access to the head of state. I thought we deliberated enough on this topic over the insults pertaining to the two former heads of state. And we concluded that sanity should be the order of the day in the running of our government. That we should not allow the language of insults to infiltrate the governance of this country. Hardly a week has passed and surprisingly senior bloggers were the first ones to be at the bottom of it. It is very disappointing. And looking at Hon. Mulongoti from the pictures in the media, you can tell that he is capable of stepping beyond where he stepped. Whatever big insult he silently passed which did not come out through the voice as the word quack did. Please Honourable Minister, swallow your pride and apologise. You will win back your credibility by doing so.
Imwe bonse except Kayata and AM are right to support Mulongoti’ quack remarks-depending on which one you take 1.Quack means sound made by a duck
2.Quack means unqulified person who claims medical knowledge ,so if Mulongoti meant the second meaning he is 100% right the lawyers are quacks irresepective of their offices, they have been pretending over the consititution because of their legal knowledge let them jump in the lake.Alluta continua Mulongoti, Kayata, and AM, dont just write from without, some of you have never even used a dictionary just condemn becuase Nkataboy is condemning , be genuine and see what is the implication, dont narrow your vocabulary no wonder you had 8 in Egnlish. If you want Toeff lessons please come to Main Masala bus Stop, we shall pump more vocabulary in your beatiful heads except those from Eastern province whose heads are hexagonal.
Mulongoti please which other description are you showering LAZ?Iam still waiting for Smiths registration ,its almost4wk
#26 Kuku, a quick look at what Quack means in addition to your two points:
1.Imposter
2.Fake
3.Fraud
4.Swindler
4.Con
5.Counterfeit
6.Pretender
#27 Nkataboy it depends which one you take, I dont think all the 6 mean the same,No one knows which one Mulongoti used,I would presume he meant no.1,2,4,6 and this correctly fits LAZ except Mr Mweemba the rest are in there comfortably no wonder FTJ is caught in the web its because of these fake lawyers.Shame on them.Mulongoti some more words please?
Mulongoti is a brave coward. Laz is doing it best by informing the pipo about the importance of pipo driven costitution that will withstand the test of time. The truth pains thats why Mr mu pole is trying hard to discredit LAZ.Because NGOs are frank about the costitution making process through the CA. The govt is so worried that the power of president and parliamentarians (cabinet) will be reduced so they want to put up the fight.LPM and his cabinet they are just acting like spoiled chaps. when you listern to some of their arguements such as spending the money on jobs creation, health and Education just to mention a few. If we are going to have a costitution that is driven by the pipo we can pass vote of no confidence on the govt at call for elections or if elections are not free and fair pipo can have a big say or decide. wht we are seeing regarding null of elections in courts is a sign of having AN organ (ZEC) not fit for purpose.A gud costitution will b a benchmark. MUPO is Quack
Mulongoti please spare us!we are tired of your loudmouth.Check what you say.Apologise mudala and you won’t lose anything for you will gain credibility.swallow your pride and you shall be a friend to many.
I do not why people are surprised by Mulongoti’s comments. We expect such comments from people (party cadres)who have no time to assess what their positions entail. They spend all their time drafting statement that would please their employer (LPM.
What a leader? A govt spokesperson speaking out publicly terms like ‘quacks’. So Mr. Mulongoti means that they are fake lawyers who have no qualification or skills in line with there professions which they practise. I would suggest that Mulongoti be taken to court to justify that, if he fails to apologise, it very serious. You know such unpleasant terms should not come from leaders, like him, they can cause confusion in this peacefull land ‘Zed’. It cannot matter if that word was spoken by a cadre or mere citizen, not from the GVT Spokesperson. It appears he has personal issues against them all. Mr Mulongoti your apology is required to LAZ.
#28 Kuku the meanings of the word ‘quacks’ listed by Nkhataboy #27 they do not mean the same thing BUT they ALL tell that someone or a something is NOT REAL.
Mlongoti is not a constitutional expert. He is a student of law. When he qualifies to practice,it is the
LAZ which will licence him to do so.Calling counsel names will not stop LAZ from doing a fantastic job of ensuring that a constitution we want as a people is enacted.Mlongoti will come to be minister junza bulamana bu minister, but LAZ will grow from strength to strength.Elijah Banda and all of LAZ soldier on.
