The Zambia Police Service wishes to regret the incident that happened in Mazabuka in which Constable Jonathan Daka is alleged to have caused the death of Rabson Chitalo aged 37, a resident of Mazabuka.
We would like to inform the nation that the Police will not tolerate a situation where innocent lives are lost at the hands of Police officers who are key custodians of the law.
The officer has since been officially arrested and charged with murder C/Sec 200 of CAP 87 of the Laws of Zambia and will appear in court on 28th March 2014.
We fully take responsibility of the officer’s conduct and we will do everything within our means to render assistance to the bereaved family during the funeral.
As a Service, we wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Mazabuka and the nation at large.

Admitting one’s wrong doing and Saying sorry comforts the injured victims, hope people will accept that.
Apologizing is welcome but you must do more practically to change that negative public perception of your service.
one way you could do this is by having what i may call “Police Day” where you will interaction with the public explaining your services and listening to the common man’s view of your services
OK, but why should “police day” be one day only? Surely, interacting with the public, explaining police services, and listening the public’s views should be an everyday thing!
Imagine that expectations of ZP have sunk so low we now only suggest they (…maybe, please) think about doing this once a year as a special event.
@Gen, i agree with your suggestion. The public need to know that the police should not brutalise them. Suspects must not be subject to beatings and torture. The courts are the ones to determine the punishment of an individual after the prosecution proves beyond reasonable doubt that the accused has committed the offence.
Interacting with people may have an effect on the familiarity threat.Police are not suppose to be familiar with the people
Police is yet to understand how unhappy the general public is with them brutalizing innocent citizens and being bias towards the kaponyas.
‘wishes to regret’ means that they hope they can regret but actually don’t. A spokesperson’s office should be more careful of such grammatical errors. The police in Mazabuka have become too violent in recent months- first the incident with the woman beaten in jail, then the pregnant woman in the market beaten, the rioters beaten and now murder. What’s with the wanna be mafia tactics?
Not forgetting another killing of an innocent guy watching football at a joint called “Social Placace” in Mazabuka a few years ago when police stormed the place for showing late night champions league game. Police in Zambia are over zealous when they don’t get their hands oiled.I actually employ them as bodyguards when I travel to Zambia and that explains how easy it is to manipulate them. Buy a cop for a tenner a day.
FROM SEPTEMBER 2011 LYING IN ZAMBIA IS TURNING TO BE A NORMAL THING WHICH POLICE STATION IS KEEPING THAT OFFICER
the pf police should learn to be professional..kill that police officer too!!
Where is the Inspector General Stellar she should also be in the forefront and apologising, it shows leadership but disappointingly this is lacking in gov’t. …she only shows up when it comes to issuing warning to PF policial opponents.
I hope the sue them!!
the whole thing is rubbish pipo shud not be decieved by this stupid apology from police choma livingstone mazabuka incidences all require government apologies where is the minister of home affairs hiding and where is ukwa hiding forgetting the pipo that put him in power that is why we need the people driven constitution to be in place and do away with poa out dated laws and looks like the police was not going to apologize had it not been for hh s concern
Well said Blackbull! I too was wondering who came up with the idea of apology for a police force known to be non repentant! It is all a farce! The family must sue for moral sake!
PF cadre mentality of shooting innocent people.
Thts how it should b. God is one. We all for under him.
Apologize for death, come on lets face the facts here wapaya and u apologize no ways
“help with the funeral expenses” – damages and compensation is what you should be looking at.. Anyway you have admitted liability – the rest should follow… I hope this guys family can get a “descent” lawyer to represent them…
The police’s apology will not bring back to life the dead! The police are allowing themselves to be used to terminate other peoples lives!!!! Mwanya, your hands will be soiled with the blood of those you are busy killing whilst those that send you to carry out such acts remain with “clean hands”…those who live by the sword, shall die by the sword
I’m really surprised. Our police, the kings of torture, apologising? Kwa! Kwa! Kwa! Kwa! Kwa!
Kwa Kwa kwa indeed. Lets clap for the lost Police Force’s coming back to the straight path
