Zambians are not bothered about cost of referendum – ZCSD

Share

Zambia Council for Social Development (ZCSD) says Zambians are not bothered about how much is required to hold a referendum because they are ready to spend for the sake of having a people driven constitution.

ZCSD Executive Director Lewis Mwape has told Qfm in an interview that what is important at the moment is to have a legal framework and a clear roadmap on the constitution making process and other things such as where to get the money for the referendum will come later follow.

Mr. Mwape notes that when government shows commitment in the constitution making process, many stakeholders will come in to fund the referendum as they will be inspired.

He adds that the statement coming from government with regards the referendum clearly shows that government is not concerned and committed to giving the people of Zambia a constitution.

Mr. Mwape says the current constitution may favour the ruling Patriotic Front but warns that it will work to their disadvantage come 2016.

He adds that the Pf government should take the issue of the constitution seriously and stop mocking Zambians with statements such as it is not possible to hold a referendum before 2016.

Mr. Mwape says with commitment, it is possible for the country to hold a referendum before 2016.

  1. What is the constitution item in the 2014 budget for? That amount is more than what Kabimba is projecting to be the amount need to carry out a national referendum on the constitution!

    • Recounting what the other blogger said the day before last.

      Kabimba – Nindalama shakwa wiso………….

  2. Which Zambians? You and hh! Leave us alone. We want cheap mealie meal, good roads, better heath care and quality schools for our children. The new constitution can can wait.

  3. I do not care about how much it will cost but I care about the constitution being delivered. This is not for me but for my children and their children.
I have said it before that MMD is crying now because they thought they would rule forever and ever. And it is sad that the PF has learnt from MMD.

  4. We are not bothered no matter how much it costs. We know that is the most fundamental move to make to have good governance that will lead to development.

  5. People busy talking about the constitution over again, again and again. Comments about the Green Party’s intention to legalize the cultivation of marijuana in Zambia?

  6. Ba Chinyamu what ever they call you, bushe uli mutuntulu kwena? its either you are hired gun or a shushushu. Are we going to eat the roads? the price of ubunga will soon reach K100, this is what will make a party win elections. Most of us voted for PF coz they promised to reduce milie meal from K39. Unless this is done to reduce it otherwise it will be difficult to convince people who are hungry. We need a new constitution with you inclusive. Any latest on Kambwili? how can he turn Luanshya golf course into a grazing grounds, keeping goats & cattle in residential zone! Awe sure! PF you are a let down

    • Some of you chaps have not even seen or read the current constitution. You and l are talking about the same thing except you are confused and just parroting what hh says. Zambia has a constitution and what we need is the Govt to concentrate on uplifting the common man’s status. Cheap Inga, good schools and better equipped hospitals with abundant drugs. Not constitution where 50+1 is the only interest. I can tell you, if this clause is removed today, no one will talk about the constitution again.

  7. Ba Mwape, when did you consult the people? Please do not pretend to be speaking on behalf of the majority without their consent!

  8. Zambians what we need now is development not politicking , we need clean water employment, good roads good infrastructure industry , good pays for workers good schools, value added products from mines, good banks good housing policies , politicks can be misleading this is where money should go , not to few wealthy politicians who peddle lies

  9. IT WILL BE IMPORTANT TO DEBATE THE ACTUAL CONTENTS OF THE DRAFT CONSTITUTION. WHAT IS GOOD ABOUT THIS DRAFT? NO ONE HAS CONVINCED ME THAT THE DRAFT IS GOOD. WHAT GOOD THINGS ARE IN IT? OR ARE WE ONLY INTERESTED IN THE 50pc +1? HOPING THAT WE CAN THEN KICK PF OUT?
