AN American couple Terry and Dina Schwartz has constructed a Secondary School in Livingstone at a cost of US$ 600, 000.

The school, which is owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA) and located in Livingstone’s Highlands Township, has already employed 10 teachers and enrolled more than 70 pupils.

Province Education Officer (PEO) for Southern Province Stephen Chishiko commended Mr Schwartz and the SDA church for supplementing Government efforts in the provision of quality education in the country.

Mr Chishiko said the new School would help to improve the learning culture in the tourist capital and Zambia at large.

He said this in Livingstone on Wednesday afternoon in a speech read for him by Southern Province senior education standards officer in charge of special education Benson Zemba during the commissioning of Terry Schwartz SDA Secondary School.

“Today marks another milestone in the partnership between the Government and the SDA Church in Zambia.

The Government has high expectations from the new management in place, the teachers and pupils as well as the support from parents,” Mr Chishiko said.

He urged the school authorities and other stakeholders to jealously safeguard and maintain the infrastructure which was built at a huge cost.

SDA Zambia Union Conference president Harrington Akombwa said education was the best gift that should be given to the future generation.

Dr Akombwa said education opened avenues for the developing the country and commended Mr Schwartz for the gesture.

He also paid tribute to the Ministry of Education through the PEO for helping to secure land for the school.

“We welcome you to the Adventist system of education where we reach to the mind and develop the whole person socially, mentally and spiritually.

I want to encourage you to bring your children to our Adventist schools in Zambia where we teach our learners to be upright and shun evil or immoral vices,” he said.

And Mr Schwartz said the couple would construct more school infrastructure before the end of this year.

He said he was grateful that Livingstone was growing and that the Government had warmly received him.

Mr Schwartz said the couple had been to more than 25 countries in Africa to build schools and Zambia was the friendliest and exceptionalcountry so far.

“I anticipate more schools will be built in Livingstone. We will do all we can to make that happen.

I have been doing this kind of work for last 45 years and this is our 25th trip to Africa to build school,” he said.

Dr Mubitana Ward councillor Stanley Ngoma said the opening of new Secondary school was timely as it was going to provide additional infrastructure for learners.

Mr Ngoma said it was not a hidden fact that there was a growing demand for secondary schools in Livingstone.

In a vote of thanks, Terry Schwartz Secondary pupil Hannah Kanyanda said the pupils were ready to uphold both spiritual and academic standards.

  1. This is nice ,outsiders really wants to see our mother zambia looks better have better future for our young youths ,but ourselves busy with politics, zambians lets change and do something by ourselves to make the outsiders contribute what we can do.
I always prey to GOD to help us in changing our minds and move out from the dirty games of politics full of insults.

    • Can’t imagine how such a wonderful gift can cost just half a million dollars. How much money is PF wasting everyday in by-elections? I would rather employ that Terry as finance minister or even Vice president of Zambia.

    • This is a good lesson to Donors!
      Never give cash!
Show them how it is done like the way the EU did with the Kabwe-Lusaka stretch of road!
Most Aid money ends up as Dead Aid especially in countries like ours where the Rule of Good Laws is non-existent!

    • Nice point but you always pray to God not prey.No offence just saying so that next time you dont make the same mistake.’Prey’ is an animal which is hunted for food while ‘pray’ is mode way of speaking to God.

    • There is nothing to be grateful about here! That is the problem with africans more Zambians look beyond not what glitters only

  2. This is very exceptional, for the last 45 years? wow these are the people that we really need to develop our country, i wish our very own tycoons would emulate such generosity. May God bless you Mr and Mrs Schwartz

  3. This is one of the real churches we have and not those churches which just build large magnificent structures in order to trap people and get their cash while they make one person filthy rich. Anyway, We need a people driven constitution no matter what now. The SDA church should stop involving itself with partisan politics, politics of fluttering the party in power as we have seen in the recent past. You represent people in the ruling and opposition parties.

    • What is a ” real” church anyway…the objective is all the same to brainwash our kids. If only our children focused on learning about their ancestors and self knowledge will would have a prosperous future to look forward to.

    • Jay jay, i see you are awake. it is pleasing to know. Keep the message strong and alive brother. thankyou for your comment.

    • Yes Jay Jay am pleased to find you are an AFRIKAN too. On the school, yes its great news to have the school we ll take it. But, lets not all jump up and praise receiving gifts from foreigners all the time. Especially, foreigners that have a history of dominating and brutalizing us. They are cunning, keep a watchful eye Zambia, and mostly importantly go back to being an Afrikan, and knowing about your Ancestors.

  4. If that school was built by Govt funds its was going to cost $ 1,200,000.Too much vodyamo. Thanks to the couple!

    • Coz you gangstas can’t be bothered to learn and appreciate what you have. You start chopping thos hos when they are only 14 years old and impregnate them. They then drop out of school while you are dealing in drugs.

So who will be in class???

  5. Where is our Zombie Government. Is a shame on the Government that a couple is able to put up a nice school in our own country using their own resources yet our Tax Payers` Funds is being abused on political expediences.

Its a pity that African leaders have made Africa and its people look very impoverished.

This gesture by the couple is as good as donation made to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs). So zambia is an OVC.

  6. Good, but Zambians should take responsibility for developing Zambia. This culture of falling all over for foreign donations brings no honour and self esteem to a people. Imagine one African going to the US and saying ” I have come to build schools for you!”. We have an abundance of natural and human resources to develop our beautiful country, lets utilize them prudently.

    • You are 100% right. This is our job. And the money is in Zambia and in the hands of Zambians. We need to invest in our kids and future, not just buy 4×4’s, shop in Dubai and have expensive girlfriends. It is nice that these Yanks did this, but it is our job, not theirs.

  7. Mr Schwartz said “The couple had been to more than 25 countries in Africa to build schools and Zambia was the friendliest and exceptional country so far.”
By this he means we are the most docile and passive of all they people hence easily brainwashed. …there is a reason why Pan African revelotionaries Tomas Sankara, Patrice Lumumba etc were against such things.

    • True that jay jay. iwe niwe wishibe ilyasho for real. Very few people can read later on see coded messages. thanks for interpreting it for us.

    • Adventists will never allow homosexuality as an accepted way of life until Jesus comes! Get used to to it.

  8. The Blessed Province indeed.

God loves this Province. It has a University too. Its the ONLY PROVINCE to ve a University after Lusaka and CBU.
Sata will just hate but will NEVER TOUCH it.

    • Don’t forget the eastern province, We are also the other bread basket; Wise men came from the east :).

  9. This clearly tells you that you do not need millions of dollar to build a school. see how much GRZ is spending on building 1 clinic and a 2 block school. clearly tells us that there is rampant stealing among the politicians

    • You people are like slaves on a slaveship bragging about who has the shiniest chain.
Wake up for sake of your children!!

    • James 4:11

Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it.

    • No! the catholics have built more schools than any other church group. I am not even catholic. Also as Christians lets fight face to face do not slander.

  10. Mushota I pity you if you dropped out of school because of your mischief don’t be a hater.Bravo to the Schwarts and SDA for supplementing GRZ.

  11. God bless this couple with a heart for the poor. Shame on you Mushota, jay jay, and kolwe. What have you done for Zambia? Just yapping in diaspora. You’re no good than PF which is wasting billions of dollars with not much to show forth. Let this couple build a school in every Zambian province and teach the kids hands on tech practical subjects besides traditional high school subjects.

  12. @Thomas t Kazolu
Shame on you for not waking up…shame on you for your docility…why on earth do you think the missionaries were building all those thousands of faith schools all over Zambia and Africa in the last century? You honestly think it was to educate us, why then were they not teaching us entrepreneurship. You must understand that in order to win a people for “christ” its paramount to Europeanise them. Don’t foolishly assume that our ancestors embraced Christianity with open arms alot of them shed a lot of blood resisting it.
You should take time and read about yourself and why the Europeans wanted to rid us of African spirituality. Stop perpetuating this sickening lie…wake up…Don’t be a blind follower ask questions.
    Wake up!!

  13. Some Zambians are just good at being arm chair critics like this Jay Jay. Come back home and do something for your poor folk than condemning those who are doing something to help the poor.

  14. Wow! 600 quids does it. whatever the motive. Bravo for the school. am a believer in school and its pacification of poverty. This is tear shedding donation.
