Stolen medical gloves retrieved

Share

The Pharmaceutical Regulation Authority has confiscated medical gloves worth K457 million in a raid on a shop at Kamwala shopping complex in the Zambian capital, Lusaka.

The gloves are meant to be given freely in Government health institutions.

Pharmaceutical Regulatory Authority Inspector Muyamba Mainga says the authority got a tip that the shop was selling Government property from a concerned citizen.

He said the authority will follow the matter until the culprit is prosecuted.

Mr. Mainga has also warned shop owners selling Government property that they risk being prosecuted.

Fort Jamesons wholesalers proprietor Desai Mohammed said he bought the gloves from a person who resides in Northmead.

  1. Nine Chale I agree. But anything is possible back home. The trouble is they would have ended up being bought in the same places they were supposed to be given freely. It hurts! ~X(

This is organised crime and Desai is involved. The Police pick up poor people with impunity. Here is s test case.desai found with stolen items, so he is the thief.

  6. If you see such things happening then a lot is going on underground. This is just a tip of an ICE BERRG. LT if you enough resorces follow it up then you will even find more supprising stories

There is a lot of stealing in Government Ministries in Zambia. A lot have even made big businessess out of that.

  7. Desai must be detained. Why did the police leave him.He should be in jail helping them with “investigations”. He should not hide in “the man from Northmead sold me the gloves”. This is organised crime & Desai the mafia running it.The Police always pick up poor people with impunity. Here is a test case for new I.G. 8. THE GLOVES ARE MEANT TO BE GIVEN FREELY IN GRZ HEALTH INSTITUTIONS .THE STATEMENT ISN`T TRUE AT ALL BECAUSE WE ASKED TO TAKE OUR OWN GLOVES IF WE VISITING THESE INSTITUTIONS.PREGNANT WOMEN ARE ASKED TO TAKE WITH THEM THE FF AS THEY GO TO DELIVER, GLOVES,THE UMBILICAL CORD PEG(DONT KNOW THE MEDICAL TERM)AMONGST OTHER THINGS .SURELY CANT OUR TAX MONEY BUY THESE SMALL THINGS HONESTLY.BUSY SPENDING OUR MONEY ON FRUITLESS TOURS ICHIGUNDI ALWAYS

  9. Lt I will continue sending my comments. I do not insult but you are blocking my comments. why? a u related to this Desai?? There is a theft case and I’m calling for the arrest of the man involved but you keep blocking me. Yashani. other bloggers help make LT see sense.

  10. THE PEOPLE WHO STEAL ARE EMPLOYEES OF THE SAME ,MOST OF THEM OWN PHARMACIES AND SO ON.THOSE WHO STEAL DO SO WITH THE HELP OF THE OWNERS OF THE FIELD ,THE CULPRITS ARE EMPLOYEES

Some comments get blocked because LT has automatically filtered out certain words. Whenever my comments are blocked, I try to paraphrase them or write them in Bemba and most of the time it works.

  12. NIne Chale mwa “rigger” kwatimwe.

#16 What`s annoying is the way these investigations are done. There is a big fish who was obviously involved as is always the case back home but they will get away with it.

Ba mwenye bamo nabo! I once bought a 100ml Colgate tooth paste which was made in Ndola. Annoying as it was (because the pack had small print saying NOT FOR SALE IN THE UK in capital letters), I wondered why this mwenye was still selling them in the UK.

  13. It seems people will never stop to steal Govt. property. There is need to overhaul the entire Zambia Revenue Authority. This transaction happened because these people either don’t declare tax or they submit cooked tax returns. How can one buy goods worth ZMK457.0M from the streets and get away with it? ZRA needs to enhance their operations. They have to do stock reconciliation for this shop ans scrutinize their compliance! Chriticles Mwansa this is a challenge to your institution. The rate at which medical supplies are being sold on the streets is very alarming. Some chaps smuggle all sorts of goods from Malawi, inclusive of HIV Test Kits which am sure ends in our hospitals.

  14. IT IS MMD STEALING. ALL SENIOR PEOPLE IN GOVT ARE APPOINTED BY MMD GOVT SO IT THEM STEALING. BORNIFACE KAWIMBE OPENNED A HOSPITAL BY STEALING GOVT HOSPITAL PROPERTY, HE WAS CAUGHT BY SECURITY GUARDS AT UTH GATE WITH HOSPITAL EQUIPMENT. THIS STEALING CULTURE WAS INTRODUCED BY CHILUBA AND HIS GOVT. STEALING DURING DAY TIME AND NIGHT, THAT IS MMD GOVT FOR US. HOSP GLOVES ARE IMPORTED OR PROCURED BY SOME SENIOR CHAP AT MINISTRY OF HEALTH. MAY BE IT IS STILL BULAYA IN CHARGE OF ORDERING FOR MOH EVEN IF HE IN PRISON

  15. You can never be sure of your results! There is need to inspect all buses coming from the Eastern Province. Again, it comes down to a very harsh tax regime but very porous indeed. Talking about these Kamwala Traders, most of them don’t even have the Point OF Sale or Cahs Registers to record their daily cashsales. This issue stinks. LT well done for letting us know. And salutations to the whistle blower who alerted the authorities

  16. Nine Chale

Point of correction my brother on comment #1.

The Gloves are valuable for children.I remember we used to ma ifimpombwa(plastic balls as in footballs). so they are valuable.Teifyo fine? :-j:-j:-j

  17. #15 mpangula mputyu u’re right, this desai must be detained,he must be mwenye or from west africa.how can he come and do madilu in our own country and bamuleka so che.

  18. Ba Pharmaceutical Regulation Authority.

Good Job,but please remember to play a fair game. There are so many Doctors and Nurses who have opened tuma drug stores. When you go to the hospital they will prescribe the medicine that is not in the hospital pharmacy, then they will direct you to their drug stores. My plea to you is be fair as you arec dealing with these issues no favouritism.Remember God does not allow favouritism

  19. Nine chale K457 million isnt small. And we should talk about the volumes too, anything can be valuable if the volume is huge.Get that Northmead chap,he should pay dearly.

    • traci – thank you maria for being so patient and cairng when taking our family photos you kept right on shooting through our little melt downs and thank goodness you did, because we ended up having a great evening with you and pictures to keep forever!!im pretty sure you were the one who got carson smiling again, and ready to take more photos!!! for that reason alone, we are grateful and hope you are there too capture more photos and memories of our family!!!

  20. ZAMBIAN Airways has suspended operations with immediate effect. The company announced that the airline had suspended operations to facilitate restructuring of the company due to operational problems.

  21. The citizen who tipped off authorities about govt gloves being sold should be highly commended,if all africans could have such an attitude then we would develop. The govt spends millions on drugs & equipment which they usually buy thru 3rd parties at a high cost,if all the equipment could be in the right places then wouldn’t have hospitals with no empty drug cabinet & equipment stores. The same has been happening in other african countries, there was a program on tv showing where resources donated to african countries end up,stuff that is supposed to be free ends up in small pharmacies, chemists especially at markets, they are clearly labled’NOT TO BE SOLD’ but our people still buy.

  22. Desai probably bought those gloves from a Ministry of health employee. Poverty and low salaries bwana must first be checked out.

  23. What #1 meant was gloves costs less money for someone to steal for reasonable gain. You know English is not our mother tongue

  24. People choose what they want to steal. There isn’t a strict inventory of stealable items During the FTJ era the peacock population at state house drastically reduced due to theft

  25. Its so interesting coz its not like the authorities dont know about what goes on they know but they always keep quiet coz of whats given to them.people are so corrupt in this country,so you will discover that the person behind this is a senior medical personnel or this case will go silent just like others.things are never done straight in zambia.too bad for the mwenye coz he obviously paid that guy a huge sum of money and on cash basis but now he has to suffer this its bad and am sure the northmead guy is now on the run,so the owner of the shop will loose out just like that.its unfair mwe.

  26. 😕 All those hair salons … 😕 Self proclaimed abortion specialists 😕 Shuwa kuti wa papa. I wonder what will be done to these “sterilized” objects of extreme cleanliness. Surely they are a health risk. Warehouses are such filthy places plagued with all sorts of spores. Burn each one of then! Burn the half a billion kwacha! :(( burn baby burn :(( :((

  27. NOW MMD IS TEALING FROM THE HOSPITALS. THIS IS INTERESTING PEOPLE. LET DESAI MWENYE AND THE NORTHMEAD GUY BE BEHIND BARS. WE CANT LET THINGS GO ON LIKE THIS….police arrest those thiefs.
    8->8->8->8->8->8->8->

  28. The gloves were probably used to make ice blocks . We need to ask this site Icelock resident champion Ba Moze if he has seen any hand shaped orange iceblocks.

  29. if hospital workers are not paid well that’s out come.the police need arrest hospital workers, its they came to know the story because their were an able to share the money well or shop own was an able to pay the bal on time 😕 RB need to think hard on all issues in Zambia.:o;)

  30. “yes bwana… no bwana…”! People are being wired in the cells as we speak. KAMBA IWE CHI RUBBISH! We commend the police for the recovery, improve on your poor torture record. There is something called forensic science that you should learn. Ka CSI kalefwaika briefly.

  31. All those who bought gloves from Deasi MUST demand for refund. Viva customers, viva. Alo ukuchivivula fwe kwate abena chipata pali RB.

  32. gloves are a necessary part of medical procedures and it’s great that they got them back, they’ll save lots of cash.a pair of gloves are cheap so if ther’e worth 457 mill,it must be mountain of them!wonder how that lot got licked in the first place. :>:>:>:>

  33. I remember back home i escorted my pregnant sister at kanyama clinic we were told that we shd buy 6 prs of gloves for the nurses to wear when i enquired that 6 pairs was too much i was told that after delivery the cleaner also needs gloves to wear when cleaning just to dicover that they got the gloves from the hospital stock and sold us then pocketed the money
