MMD youths have called on government to concentrate on maximizing tax from “real copper coming from the mines” as opposed to taxing scavengers at the black mountain which is a copper waste dump cite.
Speaking in an interview in Lusaka, MMD Die Hard Youth coordinator Bowman Lusambo observed that it is sad that government is concentrating on a dump cite when the mines in the country are just paying a fraction of the tax they are suppose to be paying.
“As MMD youths we would like to urge the ministries of finance and Mines as well as the president Mr Michael Sata to live the people of Copperbelt and Kitwe in particular alone. The black mountain which they are talking about is the waste they should concentrate on the real copper and how these guys (mining companies)pay tax to Zambia.”
He called on the PF government to live the youths who are surviving from the black mountain and channel their effort in ensuring that Zambians benefit from their copper and other natural resources.
And Mr. Lusambo has charged that certain individuals in government want to benefit from the black mountain.
“I know that they people who want to benefit from the the black mountain is not really the Zambian people, it is these crooks the PF MPs and Ministers that is why come 2016 they will not see any votes from the copperbelt,” Mr Lusambo charged.
He further called on the youths whose livelihood is dependant on scavenging at the black mountain not to lose hope as the MMD will ensure that it gives back the black mountain to the local community once the party bounces back to power.
