Share

Western Province Permanent Secretary Ikanuke Nooyo said with the Ultra Modern Surgical Equipment, the hospital will have the capacity to operate three patients at a time and save many lives.

Mr. Noyoo urged workers at the institution to be dedicated and hard working despite the hardship faced when executing their duties.

Mr. Nooyo said this in a speech read on his behalf by the Deputy Permanent Secretary Phanuel Chibala during the official handing of Ultra Modern Surgical Equipment at Lewanika General Hospital today.

And Czech Republic ministry of health representative Cenek Merta commended the Zambia government for a good relationship that exists between Czech Republic and Zambia.

Mr. Merta said the donated ultra modern set of equipment is the one currently being used in most surgical theaters in European countries. He said the equipment will be of benefit and improve service delivery to the people of Western Province.

Kralovske Virohrady University Hospital of Czech Republic through a non governmental organization, Hand for Help, donated different assorted surgical equipments comprising of; theatre operator lighting-ceiling model, mobile theatre operating light and ventilators.

  1. frm#1,and for what type of surgery,general,orthopaedics,cardiology,urology,fimofimo-logy?quite interesting news tho.plz next time consider donating a coronary lab equipment to UTH,to reduce sending our patients to S/A for Tx.heart attacks(coronary heart diseases) are increasingly wiping our community, and main reason for sending pipo for specialised Tx.we’ve done it for cancers,we can do it for heart diseases,thumbs-up Cxech.

  2. Tionge, what is Ultra Modern Surgical Equipment, nifinshi ifi. Bushe te ultra sheen fye, I mean the one we use when relaxing our hair. Awe mwandini.

  3. These are simply masks and gloves my fellow bloggers. Nothing more than that. Just like Japanese government recently donated old documentary vidoes and GRZ will tell us the donation will enable (ZNBC) enhance its programming in the country. Yaba!

    😕

  4. Why should we wait for donations when we’ve got enough money as a country to buy these equipment, billions of kwacha go missing every year and our gov does nothing about it, except ndelombako ubwafwilisho, we pay tax were does the money go….

  5. :)>- Morning all!

Nomba this ultra fimo fimo, will it really help the poeple of western province? I can guarantee you that the next headline in the near future will read, “Donated Ultra Fimo fimo Goes Missing!!!”.

  6. Czech Rep, should follow up maintenance of these ultra modern equip.
Not just dumping them pa Zedi without any thought of servicing and provision of spare parts.

Teach/train the Zedians to use these equipments as well…

Some one to donate PET Scans too. [-x[-x

  7. I don’t think surgical masks or gloves need maintenance nor training to use them, Cutey. These are “disposables.”

  8. Some comments here are plain ignorant. 1. They have stated the equipment they are donating and this information can be attained in the last two paragraphs of the article. 2. It is not the job of the Czech govt to look after equipment they have helped to buy for u. U needed it and u went begging through an NGO, they were kind enough to donate the equipment that u wanted. Hence, the onus is now on u the beggar to look after it. After all, it will be used to save Zambian lives

  9. If they want they can donate a whole new hospital, what we lack is maintenance of equipment, they tell you replace lens after 3,000 pictures you do 9,000 then the machine parks, do you really think anything good is going to happen to that equipment?

  10. kwena we getting them donations sure but one wonders what the gov´t of the day is doing to improve em´ conditions at the local hospitals?

  11. #9,
    Ba moderator imwe.
L.T has specified what sort of equip is in mention.

Nshilemonapo ama Dispoasable Surgical gloves apa..
Maybe Iam the only one who cant read that line…
    then simply forgive. 😮

  12. Imwe, ni tu leza. have your forgotten those ones ati ‘made in czchechoslovakia.’ mwali abaiche sana! we used to bite our tongues trying to pronounce the word

  13. RB should try by all means to win people’s confidence by at least equipping UTH,being the country’s referral hospital, with modern equipment. Politicians should have proper legacies after their term of office expires.
RB STAND FOR SOMETHING!!! HEALTH OR EDUCATION SECTOR WILL GO DOWN VERY WELL.

  14. RB HAS IT EASY BECAUSE THERE IS SOMEWHERE HE CAN COPY IDEAS FROM. OBAMA IS THE MAN. EMULATE THIS MAN WHOSE PASSION IS SEE USA EMERGE FROM ECONOMIC TURMOIL. NO MORE POLITIKING!!!!

  15. What is Ultra Medical surgical equipment?
Zambians have decided to call them like that but how do the donators call this equipment!!

Probably something that can not be used on europeans!!

Please LT send the details and I will ask my neighboring country !!:d

  16. Considering the lack of basic equipment in Zambian hospitals this may indeed seem modern but theatre operating lights and ventilators are in fact basic requirements for a decent hospital and have existed for decades. My God we even had them in the emergency room in the Male OPD at Wusakile Hospital

  17. I live in Czech and I can tell you that this country has one of the best medical facilities and expertise in Europe / around the world, medical care is available to all citizens and non citizens like me, so with cooperations with the Czech in this field, consider it a good thing. The problem is our government will vandalise all these things hoping to be maintained by the people who has given them for free, when they waste money trying to come up with a constitution which favours only politians.

  18. Ba government begging is not good, its not good at all, lets do away with this begging syndrome we have,Its very shameful that we mis manage our funds and we wait for countries who have manage their funds so well to give us donations, don’t you people have shame?? why should we continue leaving like this??

  19. Hand for Help, donated different assorted surgical equipments comprising of; theatre operator lighting-ceiling model, mobile theatre operating light and ventilators.

Zambians, please dont take these surgical equipments to your homes as decorations for your sitting and bedrooms.

  20. JAMACO
Shani. We need as many of these “donators” as possible .That way the tax payers money will always be available when our worn out govt officials ‘breakdown’ again and would need to be flown out.And so that they can host Asian diplomats at Mfuwe and the rest.Or else where does the tax that we pay end up

  21. ‘donated different assorted surgical equipments comprising of; theatre operator lighting-ceiling model, mobile theatre operating light and ventilators.’
Its all got to do with lighting and a ventilator. Well, they say never look a gift horse in its mouth, so we say ‘thank you to the Czechs for doing what our own government should be doing.’ I wonder who chose Lewanika General Hospital to be the beneficiary? Is it because of Holub the Czech explorer who explored the Zambezi after Dr Livingstone?
Never mind. Now we need ZESCO to be on top of their game to use this equipment.

  22. This is great news.Let’s not criticise for the sake of it.
Any Zambian who watched the BBC programme about Lewanika hospital will agree with me that such a donation is welcome,be it gloves, razors or whatever, the hospital has been in a pathetic state for a long time & it brought tears in my eyes watching how the locals struggle to even get the basic of care from the hospitals, nurses etc clean wounds without gloves at that hospital & some of you have the audacity to criticise, grow up & understand, coz it’s clear in the article ”ULTRA MODERN EQUIPMENT” is what has been donated not just consumables, kanshi how old are some of you chaps here.

  23. “Government has commended the Czech Republic for donating Ultra Modern Surgical Equipment valued at K2.4 billion to Lewanika General Hospital.”

Thank you Czech Republic. “Blessed is tha hand that giveth, than the one that taketh”, however your contribution will go a long way.

    ===
LT 2008 Award Winner. =; for Zambians in 2009 and the future.

  24. We shall always welcome donations to our country. Thank you Czech Repubulic
But at the same time, our Government should do their part and not only count on donations and buy expensive vehicles for the fat ministers

  25. If you check the cost of the said equipment, you will find that it is not as expensive as the vehicles our grz buys for its ministers. This is an indication that your grz doesnt ‘give a dime’ about you or your relatives. All the fat cats will be evacuated to RSA for specialised treatment even for Blood Pressure Check up while you and yours die at UTH of headaches. There is no motivation for them to buy such equipment, so we should change the rules such that all zambias are to be treated at UTH no matter who they are. Only then shall the necessary equipment be bought.

  26. may be bakapanga aba can stop going to south africa for treatment. elo ultra-modern, limbifye ni ultra-sound machine pa zambia ninshi ni endelela.

  27. #48, we have no choice do we? The politicians are busy flying to RSA for check ups due to being too fat. Look at Hon Liato – typical fat minister and he will flown for bp check up soon. So no money for even plastic cups!!! :d/:d/:d/

  28. Ultra modern equipment is not the answer. The answer is equipment which will work. Up to 70% of equipment donated to Africa and others fails to work on arrival because it (a) can’t cope with the conditions (b) requires expensive servicing, maintenance and unavailable parts (c) doesn’t work when electricity etc fails. I know this for a fact firsthand as our company, which supplies anaesthetic equipment specifically for Africa etc, spends a lot of time out there and we’ve seen it. Fine in the large teaching hospitals in some countries but in the majority it ends up in a cupboard and propping up doors. Terrible waste. Not the donors’ fault either because there are hardly any standards and, when they do exist, the big companies just fudge it. edited
