Governor of the Bank of Zambia Dr Michael Gondwe, has been presented with the prestigious “Central Bank Governor of the Year Award,” at the Africa Investor (Ai) Investment and Business Leader Awards ceremony held at the Ritz Hotel, in Washington DC during the week.

Monica Musonda founder of Java Foods was also bestowed with the “Africa’s Leading Women in Business Award” at the same ceremony.

The awards were presented at the Ai CEO Investment Summit, held in association with the IFC and the World Bank Group Trade and Competitiveness Global Practice ahead of the annual meetings.

Director General of Zambia Development Agency, Mr Patrick Chisanga, said the Agency had received the news about the Investment and Business Leader Awards with great pride and excitement.

“ZDA has received with tremendous pride and elation the confirmation of the news of the award of Central Bank Governor of the Year, Dr Michael Gondwe, as well as Monica Musonda as Africa’s Leading Woman in Business. This is a reflection of the growing confidence by the international community in Zambia’s unfolding economic programme. It shows that the Central Bank under Dr Gondwe’ s stewardship has recorded positive achievements, which have been noted and recognised by the international economic community. ”

He added, “Monica Musonda is an up and coming indigenous Zambian entrepreneur who has achieved international recognition at a very tender age. We are proud of her achievements in the agro-processing industry as MD of Java Foods. We want to take this opportunity to encourage other Zambians to show total commitment in the advancement of their business enterprises.”

Mr Chisanga assured the private sector that ZDA will do everything possible to support and facilitate the growth of the Zambian entrepreneurial sector from being small, medium to large enterprises.

Monica Musonda was selected from a list of eight distinguished business women that included Isabel Dos Santos an investor from Angola, Folorunsho Alakija an oil investor from Nigeria and Maria Ramos CEO of ABSA.

  1. Another masterpiece of a hire by the most congruent functional president those shores have wee hard.

Well done president sata and everyone anywhere agrees with this decision

    Thanks

    • Africa Investor is just an an investment holding company no need to get excited like this is some prestigious award. We all know this bank governor has done zip for Zambia

    • There are so many awards out there. It all depends on which one is valued the most by developed countries.

These awards received by most Africans, are nothing, they do not inspire any confidence.

We need as a nation to aspire internationally recognised awards which raises every one ‘s eyebrows the world over.

Right now PF is hunting for an award for Sata the absentee landlord as the most hard working leader in Africa. They will surely get it at a small fee.

    • Congrats to BOZ governor for the achievement.

continue with your hard and inspiring work

      You make us proud

God bless our country and its people

    • WHENEVER I READ MUSHOTA’S POSTYING, I ALWAYS THINK OF THE ZANNY MOVIE ‘SHORT CIRCUIT’! DOES SHE EVER MAKE SENCE THIS GIRL?

“Another masterpiece of a hire by the most congruent functional president those shores have wee hard”

WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN?

  2. Cooked up awards . He is the worst Governor Zambia ever had, no control of fiscal policies that if they exist in his head anyway. Kwacha is a gone currency LOL my foot best CENTRAL BANK GOVERNOR ..Spare us the rot

    • BoZ looks at Monetary Policy. But just for curiosity, we always have these (imperialist given) awards while our economy remains poor. Penza (may his ouls rest in pieces) got the Finance Minister of the Year award by making Zed hungry and unemployed through a wage freeze. If salary increment freeze and a freeze on employment is one of the criteria for the prize, next year ABC will get one!

  3. Mmmmmmh, interesting award. I thought our economy was not doing well in Africa. Anyway, congratulations BOZ boss. I want to hear from HH now.

    • Only a f**l would celebrate when a bank in the name of the World Bank awards you….even Fossil Chikwanda has been awarded as best Finance Minister.
      Wake up!!

    • Yes…keep up with the borrowing and then later default…and the World Bank will be celebrating more by advising you to give away grandchildren’s land and mines for a song.
Wake up and do not just eat every thing that is placed in front of you care to find out where its coming from!!

  4. Isn’t this the man that some local ignoramuses have been belittling? Shame on them; the so-called NGOs, the failed opposition cartel, etc. SHAME!!!

  5. This is a joke. He is the worst perfoming governor this country has ever had.
This award is a mockery, how can useless perfomance be rewarded only i in africa where success is not respected.

  6. This is a joke. He is the worst perfoming governor this country has ever had.
This award is a mockery, how can useless perfomance be rewarded only i in africa where success is not respected. Just look at the fiscal and monetary policies zambia is pursuing one who think no one is charge. Look at how ugly our new bank notes look both in design and appearance as if they were done by kindergarten kids

  7. Hmmmmm some awards they are even awarded to the MOST unproductive people on earth.
Gondwe has failed terribly. World Bank we kno wht you r doing to Africa. In West Africa you have given Ebola and u r now sending troops tht side…for wht ?.

  8. Congratulations to Monica Musonda for being bestowed with “Africa’s Leading Women in Business Award”…only local entrepreneurs will move this country forward.
    As for Gondwe, I’m surprised just as he is as to why he why and what he was awarded for…moreover he is not the only one who was awarded…in fact he is last name on that list;

  9. How can you be giving African Awards in Washington? What is also surprising is that even our very own Finance Minister has been recognised. That answers it …this is held in association with IFC and World Bank. No surprises there!!

Henry Rotich, Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury, Republic of…

    • Mr. Alexander Chikwanda’s son Tila works for the World Bank as an economist. He seems to have facilitated the awards to these Zambians.

    • @Luba-Kaonde

Sir, that Thila at world bank you’re talking about is not the son to Alex, and even if he is the one, there is no nepotism in the Brentwood organizations.

Let’s critic…if will feel so…without getting so personal to the point of misleading others.

  10. Look at all these infestors

    7. Institutional Investor of the Year

    The Carlyle Group
    Edmond de Rothschild
    BlackRock
    CalSTRS
    Ashmore Equities Investment Management
    Oppenheimer
    Franklin Templeton
    Soros Fund Management

  11. Mixed reactions? – you need to be extremely careful with these sinister Awards from IFC & World Bank influenced activities – NOT long ago, they advised zambia to sell the MINES at a song – ruined our economy, we paid thru the nose to get HIPC. Currently the economy is in the doldrums -“”Unemployment is very high, there is a wage freeze, No money for Student scholarships, Mines investments at all time low.””. NO zambian owns any significant investment like the Motsepe, Cryril Ramanposa in SA, Dangote Nigeria, UHURU kenyatta, Kenya.

Real AWARDS must come from our villagers – This would be the real acid test of performance not from people who have not been to Zambia.

  12. Quite typical of some Zambians. Critical, critical, critical. Even a good deed about a fellow country man makes them unhappy! When will you be happy, imwe bantu, perhaps when you are in six feet deep!!!?

    • Simply do a bit of critical analysis and ask yourself why the likes of Gondwe and Chikwanda are being awarded when our external and domestic debt is hockey stick rocketing…you name one poor country that has prospered from IMF and World Bank policies.
As for dying everyone is going to die one day its inevitable infact you should welcome it…only those who are fearful of going to “heaven” or “hell” are scared of death.
      Wake up!!

  13. ..it would be interesting to know the full scope/terms of reference used to come up with such awards…..not long ago, similar sister institution rated Zambian Kwacha and Ghanaian Cedi as the worst performing currencies in the world….the performance of currency is supposed to be one of the supreme key result area for a bank governor

  14. Learn something about member countries and see the reasons in relation to the rest of the group

Yes the expectation is high with sincere reflection to other member countries

Personally Hon Chikwanda ,Gordon Pravin and Mr Gondwe have shown resolute and tenacity including Claver Gatete of Rwanda in emerging markets category

This Monica Musonda is really impress as a Zambian entrepreneur Recently was in attendance of a forum where she was invited as one of the most promising Zambian entrepreneur She was equal to the task and rose to the occasion

Conglats that is the way not talk shows

  15. She was value amongst the best of Albert Essien -Eco Bank and , James Mwangi Equity Analyst from Kenya and many more other value thinking participants in Abuja Nigeria with interests to see Africa develop beyond the realms

  16. A simple question to all yo either questioning Gondwe’s award or just being negative in general, What international Awards, recognitions etc have you that has brought any pride to Zambia? What do you do in your lives worthy sharing with all of us Zambians so we can all celebrate yo!!?
Just congratulate those doing the work for yo lazy a**es and keep living your miserable lives!!

  17. the impression back home is that our economy is not doing well as evidenced by our economic indicators such as inflation rate, the performance of the kwacha, among others. anyway even among the dull of the dullest there is always a best performer.

  18. If Goodness is really the best in Africa, then Africa is doomed. Is it a question of the best picked amongst the worst?

  19. When the local currency is weak who benefit? The Zambians or the foreigners. Which Zambian produces goods that be exported to France for example? He was awarded to show him him that he has helped the foreigners by punishing his fellow Zambians

    NONSENSE

  20. WHAT DID THIS GUY DO TO WIN THE AWARD? IS IT BECUASE OF THE TREE ZEROS HE CUT FROM OUR KWACHA OR WHAT REALLY ELSE DID HE DO?

  21. I ‘m proud of you Gondwe. This award can not be given to underperformers. It also points to robust fiscal policies the Zambian government has implemented. It reflects positive strides made in record time to manage economy and spur the nation to momentous development. The chief trend setter of all these achievements is no other than the great hero and president of the lovely republic of Zambia Michael Chilufya Sata. This award is unprecedented and so is the positive management of the economy in Zambia. Chukia utachoka, sisi tunasonga mbele na maendeleo. Ngosa wamona, ati nokwimba ukose.

  22. The cost of l?v?ng and ?mports cont?nues to deter?orate thanks to the plumett?ng kwacha. So what ?s th?s award? What d?d ?t cost Zamb?a to massage the ego of the gentleman?

  23. The economic performance of a country is measured using economic/statistical ratios such GDP, Inflation, Budget performance, exchange rates etc. prepared by those running government . how accurate are these figures and how relevant are they to reflect the actual scenario on the ground with regard to a common man. anyway Economics is full of assumptions unlike Science which deals with facts that can be proven . without a full detailed criteria used to award these individuals it is difficulty to appreciate these awards. As long as the growth of the economy does not benefit me and my community such growth is Hollywood growth and is useless

  24. @Luba-Kaonde

Sir, that Thila at world bank you’re talking about is not the son to Alex, and even if he was the one there is no nepotism in the Brentwood organizations.
