Education Minister John Phiri says government has put up effective mechanisms to seal all loopholes leading to leaking of final examination papers.
Recently scores of Grade 12 pupils at Helen Kaunda, Kitwe Boys and Mukuba Secondary Schools in Kitwe ran amok throwing stones and burning vehicle tyres after discovering that they had fake leaked examination papers.
And about thirty nine Grade 12 pupils were this week rounded up in Lusaka after they converged to study a leaked examination paper.
But Dr. Phiri has told QFM News that his ministry together with the Examination Council of Zambia (ECZ) has worked out measures of protecting exam papers.
Dr. Phiri says government is pleased that this year there are no cases of real leaked examination papers.
He says the people selling papers are just conmen who are just taking advantage of the pupils knowing that some of them are desperate.
The Education Minister adds that with the new measures that have been put in place, it is quiet difficult to have access to any examination paper.
Dr. Phiri states that the ones that the people are having access to are fake.
He has since urged pupils not to rely on examination leakages but rather prepare adequately for the examinations.
That is why my 23 points in 5 subjects in Grade 12 is equivalent to the current six points
I got 23 points in 5 subjects and ended up getting a lot of education
This is why i don’t think leakages are a problem 6 point = 24 points equally and I think at 23 points I did better than brilliant
I trust the PF to eradicate this leakage
Thanks
How do you in your normal senses expect PF govt to get rid of leakages when their DNA is 99 percent lies, cheating and donchi kubeba!!!!!
this is unprecedented leakages,, like construction of roads,,,, why do you think those kids rioted in kitwe??,,, because they were promised “free“ exams by PF
It is about time. High marks should always be a preserve of a few of us who sweated for them, not these kids who achieves them through leakages after wasting their study time on social media and meaningless teenage sexual relationships.
Ok, Tiza embekeza.
MUSHOTA YOU ARE VERY RIGHT ON THAT. THE STANDARDS IN ZAMBIA HAVE GONE SO MUCH DOWN A 25 POINTS RESULT OF YESTER-YEARS SHOULD BE EQUIVALENT TO SIX POINTS OF TODAY. BUT HAVING SAID THAT EXAM LEAK ARE NOT A NEW THING. IT’S AS OLD AS TIME ITSELF. BUT AS THE MINISTER HAS POINTED OUT, PUPILS MUST PREPARE FOR EXAMS RATHER THAN EXPECTING PAPER LEAKAGES. LAWS MUST ALSO BE STERN TO DEAL WITH THOSE WHO LEAK (REAL/FAKE) GET LEAKED EXAM PAPERS AT ANY LEVEL AND ANY INSTITUTION.
You have cracked my ribs…..
Mushota wali akakopo ayi…
I had 13 points in 6 and 9 points in 5.. I remember putting myself in fear by asking God to strip away my future success If I used leakages in high school.. So anyone who wanted to show me leakages got the most brutal rejection from me. So far I have completed my Masters degree and I am winning.. Success is sweet only with genuine sweat!
@MUSHOTA
Why do you like talking about your achievements as if we have not seen better results? I left school in 1993 at a time there were no leakages but I got 15 points in 6 subjects and 11 in 5 subjects at a rural school. If your 23 points did not take you to either UNZA or CBU, then you belong to the majority of those………Dont insult 6 points. I presume in 6 subjects you got 31 points. You never got it let alone intellectuals get it. You are in the majority or multitude good sister.
Leakages started in 1979 when the Zambia Examinations Council came into existence
Sorry I typed 1983 but my word corrector entered 1979
In 1993 leakages were there. Only the levels differ. There are too many today. I hate people who pretend to be intelligent when in fact not. Look at today’s graduates, they are failures even in doing work correctly. Full of mistakes (if at all they are).
We shud give credit where it due. Job well done becoz it was almost imposible to teach as most pupils stopped attending lessons knowing that they will hav leakage
You are right my brother Chuku but the question is, will it be sustained or its just temporal? So pride seeing deserving pupils get real results. Well the government on this one
I like your question ” is it sustained or its just temporal”,if everyone was to ask himself this question in all gvt departments, Zambia will move foward. We need to find system oriented solutions, where by even if someone dies of leaves, someone will easily replace that person and simply follow the already established system other than trying his own ways, for examplemthe problem of leakage, it may not be there right now, but once a new minister comes in, it may easily come back.same with ZRL, No system of developing it.
i mean ” dies or leaves”
Wow – so the government got into the fray, sprayed false leaked papers around and smugly announced their triumph. I shudder to imagine what that fo.olproof measure is – it will end up being a megillah as the years go by; just watch this space.
Well done Dr. Phiri. This will mean less time in phones and games by our children. I just hope that system is foolproof and long lasting because crooks always find a way round.
Well done Dr. Phiri. The government of PF under the able leadership of His Excellency the President Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata, examination leakages have been sealed. It is unprecedented. Let us hold on to this strategy and restore credibility to the examination management. This gives confidence that the future will be characterized by genuine professionals who will have worked their way to success through personal effort academically. While there many professionals who never succumbed to examination malpractices and have earned their success through personal efforts, the happenings of the last ten years in school examinations calls for forensic audit to determine and flush out anybody who moved to the next stage of learning and employment through examination leakages.
PROBLEM NI NJALA YEKA!!
Until most Citizens in Communities of poor under developed countries have 1.Wealth, 2.Equality, 3.Education, & 4.Good health care, such will be the Norm.
In Zambia for example, most of the ruling class are Corrupt, extremely wealthy, at the expense of the Poor suffering masses, & Zambia a potentially wealthy nations resources, are NOT equally spread.
You just need to look at Ministerial decisions made that Favor the Vampires from Multinational companies, while the minister & his Family are only Zambian beneficiaries, i.e Zambian Copper Tax Saga.
Therefore P.F, minister declaring he will Stop leaks of exam papers, is like a Charlatan who tells You He/ She will cure your Mother of Cancer using Panadol.
IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!!
Job well done dr.phiri. l believe we will have genuine unza monks next year unlike the current stone throwers from mapatigo
Bravo..Its about time, for 25+ years these have been the norm…these naughty pupils have the audacity to even call to the streets and protest…so what are the effective mechanisms that have been put in place? Is it printing the real papers abroad and printing the bogus ones at ECZ?LOL
The moral compass of our education eroded by this vice. God! Sort it however way you can.
They committed a crime. Arrest those pupils. lipservice aren’t good without action.
ZEC leakages product here?—kikikiki
I hate people who see zambia on partisan or tribal lines. Learn from Scotland parties r nothing win or lose its still a united country.
Very right @bryson. In fact what is most scary now is that it is the younger generation that is peddling this tribal nonsense with a passion. I shudder to imagine what will happen when an energetic, tribal, young leader takes the helm. It will be mayhem of unprecedented levels. We really need to work this thing off our slates.
How do you not see tribal or partisan lines, if appointments for key positions are based on tribal or partisan lines. Scrutinize even the awarding of bursaries for UNZA students, then you will know who is in charge of allocating the same. We need to talk about this sad state of affairs and start rooting out of our public life.
Stup1d. You can’t see your bemba infested cabinet.
Oh no how can some guys make money now??????????
…I have to see to believe….remember the tighter u put up measures the more sophisticated the would be offenders become…..
The funny thing is most people don’t realise there is cheating of another kind practiced by Rich Folk against Poor Folk.
Rich Folk spend money on private education and extra studies. They provide a better learning environment for their kids.
Poor Folk in Zambia, send their kids to schools miles away from villages with no shoes or a lunch box, with only maize porridge in their belly …if they are lucky. No school lunch and kids have to walk back miles to a poor dinner of dried Kapenta (small fish fry)! How on earth do you do your homework or swot up for tests on those odds.
That image of the divisions, makes me want to be Robin Hood…….. And nick those papers complete with answers for the poor kids!
If education is everything, then the reason why is clear…
I knew it, you have nothing in your brain PF cadre. How do you shift the blame like that?
@upnd cadre from ngombe compound lsk says:
Don’t be silly. You are hardly giving a debate but being abusive and perfectly stupid. You UPND folk are violent and abusive in nature. Now what could be so offensive in my sentiments? What makes them PF cadre anyway?
What does ‘nothing in the brain’ mean anyway? Is that the abuse your parents heaped on you, and now you repeat it because that is the only way you know to disagree?
I am not a PF cadre in any case.
@Patriot
I beg to differ. One’s circumstances does not determine one’s destiny. The most succesful in our middlest come from very humble backgrounds. In my day, those of us who made it either into form 6 at Mpelembe or Chingola School of Accountancy came from very humble backgrounds. Its not about your hunger for food but your hunger for success and a better future. Lets admit it, most kids nowadays have their priorities wrong. You can leak a g12 paper and possibly a university paper. But can you leak the calibre and aptitude to learn and sustain a professional skill? I don’t think so. That’s why sub-standard graduates are commonplace in modern day zambia. Garbage in Garbage out.
Stop the rigging practice too.
We all know that leakages are sourced directly from the institution that be.
It is not true that this year has been leakage free. Believe me I know.
Dr. Phiri says government is pleased that this year there are no cases of real leaked examination papers………. How do u celebrate when the examination exercise has just reached the middle? Celebrating a win at the half time…… Oh! My God!!!
these boys are useless, embarrassing.this is one of the problem in Zambia.Schools in urban areas don’t produce genuine students .they always get places that rural ones deserve to get.Imagine such calibre of students coming to a univertsity or college what do you expect .Pipo who are used passing thru leakages and will bring such acts to higher education.I want to encourage Prof Phiri to contain this .At least it is encouraging to see them riot useles and dull chaps.Even pipo who come from such schools should be doubted and yet they are the ones benefiting from courruptly getting bursaries becoz thy are used to getting things like that .this is very painful to pipo like me coming from a rural setups .shame on you ifibena kitwe pupils may god purnish you so that you fail all your exams with
Village leakages are worse. The papers are just opened, stolen. Head teachers who become strict are forced out of the village school.
Leakages are every where. But Bravo to Micheal Chilala, ECZ Director and your team – ECZ is becoming professional under him. Dr. Phiri do not steal the limelight. ECZ is semi – autonomous and they are doing well so far. It is Dr Phiri’s head teachers who are aiding in leakages at school level.
i wonder why the police did not pick them .you see they need to be taught a lesson that what they are doing is wrong.how do you riot becoz u got a wrong leakage and p-olice watch them.pick them detain them so that they miss some papers we see who is going to lose oput useless chaps ,ninkoompoopos.your behavior is disgusting i feel like vomiting.mwe fikopo mwe .how do you get leakages just to pass .please ministry of education if it is possible identify these pupils and disqualify them so that they learn a lesson masipa amina
Its about this time of the year when stuff like this happened to me. Lol
Comment:it realy was good that john phiri had seal the loophole for leakages in zambia.Nomba nakashinkuka this year
