Fraternal love and greetings from Kopala!
Thanks to divine intervention, I can see the albatross around your neck that had essentially restricted your movements to the precincts of the court and the parameters of your home has finally broken loose and you’re now as free as a bird.
Not so long ago, you made an impromptu visit to the komboni which is notorious for fwaka yachingoni (Chibolya) and you followed this up with another visit to Chilenje and Kamanga compounds.
According to some media outlets, you were greeted with thunderous applause and warm welcomes. I have no doubt in my mind you felt so much loved and concluded that Zambians surely want you back to statehouse.
Without mincing my words, I would like to remind you that you’re dead mistaken. The individuals who are telling you that people want you back to liberate them are not telling you the truth – they’re simply misleading you for three pieces of silver.I would encourage you to engage independent consultants or investigators to take time and walk into the bars, markets, streets and townships and gather the views of the people. I can assure you Sir; your ears will probably be perforated by the weight of insults you’d hear.
The other day you somehow took a swipe at your son for advising you not to get back to active politics and said he’s just being used. Andrew Banda is a mature person who has indulged in the game of Zambian politics for as long as one would remember; surely can anyone use him in the manner as per your claim?
One prominent politician once observed that Zambians forget easily. Without seeming to want to take something away from you, I would like to emphasize that you achieved quite a number of milestones during your tenure e.g. over 6.5% GDP, stable exchange rate, over US$ 4 billion in national reserves, affordable maize mill etc.Given this background, people should have easily renewed your mandate but why did they vote you out?
People were simply fatigued with decades of MMD in power and wanted change. And indeed when PF wrestled power from MMD, they quickly initiated some cosmetic changes such as increasing salaries for civil servants and undertaking massive infrastructure development. I say cosmetic because the increase in salaries has since been effectively nullified by the 2 year wage freeze imposed by Alexander Chikwanda and development has notoriously been lopsided and marred with corruption. As if this isn’t enough, important government positions have been allocated to people from one region of the country.
But does this mean people are keen to see you back in politics to help put things in order?I doubt so, Sir.
You squandered your few years at the helm Mr. Banda. I don’t think people would easily give you another chance. Why do I say so? Apart from failing to deliver a people driven constitution, you had to wait until the last minute to start working on the roads. You also wasted so much time and money globetrotting hence earning yourself monikers such as Kamwendo Munjila and Vasco da Banda.
I can assure you Sir, you don’t stand any chance of winning these elections; you are just going to spoil votes especially in Eastern province and hence diminish the chances of the opposition winning these elections. As opposed to participating in the polls, you should have just endorsed one particular candidate and campaigned for them especially in your home province since you still command a lot of respect and support there.
I end here for now.
Thank you for taking time to read this letter.
Prince Bill M. Kaping’a
I don’t understand this old man as well. No wonder I suspect that he must have forgotten something at Nkwazi House which he desperately wants to go and collect.
Power is sweet, and two years was nothing!!
Terrible grammar and usage of words that the author it appears has little grasp on.
Difficult to read.
Keep it simple next time, to avoid opening a can of worms for yourself
Thanks
BB2014
Infact contempt of court awaits Rupiah. This shameless old man has closed his ears from reason.
Just old fool, last kicks of a dying horse…RB
The old man has nothing other things good to do. He can be excused. He started and ended his earlier political life with some respects but surprisingly he is now acting like the late Chakomboka. May be his mission is to reduce and divide votes from popular provinces so that his preferred party (not MMD in reality) can win . He may be under cover, watch out for him.
Just as I (The Civilised Sam) observed & earlier advised in one of the articles in the ZR. However, being a scholar of political science I would categorically assert that RB is needed in these elections if we want PF to be wired technically as this RB will split eastern province & northern provinces thereby giving Flight HH2015 an edge over the Kachasu Drunken Swindler Lungu of the useless liars Party, PF! Please leave RB in the ring I beg of you if you sully want PF out of the without any difficults. As it is PF under The Kachasu Drunken Swindler has no clear stronghold!
@civilised sam
Exactly my thoughts. Thats why I celebrated when Lungu was some how confirmed PF candidate.
This is a very sober open letter, unfortunately Alabee probably wont listen and go ahead to stand, split the vote, humiliate himself then cry foul when his precious benefits as Ex Head of State and withdrawn then he will suck up to the new president and try be an “elder statesman” be paraded in front of the media basically kissing the new guys well oiled hind quarters in return he will get his benefits reinstated and probably manage to get back his immunity and state funeral when he finally pegs
RB’s benefits will only be suspended during the period he holds elective party office. After the elections, either way he will resume to enjoy his benefits.
The 18 months of 2015 to 2016 fit somebody like RB because outside RB,if HH or EL wins the 2015 by elections,he will have cursed himself FOR THE BIG ONE IN 2016.Remember that Zambians are very critical people and their expectations are simply overwhelming and 18 months is a short period for say HH who must first come to grips of government workings before he can in earnest imprint his own style. This might jeopardize his chances in 2016 elections.
Can one retire twice? Some sort of ‘Double jeopardy’? Anyway, this is africa. Who gives a damn about the the Law and the Constitution? They might as well shove it in their a&ses.
Timely advise. I hope his press aide will print and give it to him. The man is a disgrace so to speak. I don’t have any kind words for him. His coming back to active politics leave much to be desired. He is being used by selfish people within the MMD camp especially those opposed to Dr. Mumba. Dr. Mumba during his tenure people rose against him the likes of Chituwo, Dora Siliya, Kaingu, Mulusa just to mention a few. Non of these mentioned guys have come out to oppose the coming of RB. They are the people behind this selfish scheme. At the back of their minds they know RB cannot go through but they have used this calculated move to take over in 2015. They are evil and thanks to Andrew Banda who came out openly that his dad is being used by selfish people. Time is over for RB or dinosaur
OLD MADALA BANDA PLEASE LISTEN TO WORDS OF WISDOM FROM THE YOUNG BLOOD. THIS IS 21st CENTURY. IT’S A NEW CHAPTER NOW IN ZAMBIA FOR YOUNG LEADERSHIP TO LEAD THE COUNTRY. ZAMBIANS HAVE ENDORSED YOUNG AND VIBRANT HH TO BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT. VIVA HH VIVA! VIVA UPND VIVA!
Is this an open latter or a comment?, you are just a stupid cadre from upnd
Such advice is rubbish considering that the debate is over. Let RB use his democratic right. Why are u agitated as though you are the one feeding him? Please leave him alone. Your votes are not ours.Just as you hold your opinion, equally his. Just sell your candidate and not disadvantage others.Zambia is a democratic nation.RB is not the first and will not be the last one to make such a decision.Learn to understand tenets of democracy.
He will be the first to LOOSE his benefits
DOES WISDOM GO AWAY WHEN A PERSON BECOMES OLD? I SEE A LOT OF NONSENSE IN RB. THE WIFE IS SICK HE DOESNT CARE, PUTTING HIS HARD EARNED MONEY AT RISK , HE STILL DOES NOT CARE.
Very foolish article – You must be scared of his come back. RB For President. As Zambians and voters we are even lucky to have among the candidates some one who’s been in office before who knows how good governance is supposed to be like. God loves Zambia enough to have RB repair the misplaced and misappropriated political characteristics back to sanity and peace. If you don’t like him jump into the sea.

One of the things that really irritated me when Rupiah Banda left office was to be interviewed by a BBC reporter and asked why he cried when he lost the elections. Only for this Rupiah Banda to say I felt very bad for my colleagues who were going to loose jobs because we were going out of government. Surely, there are multitudes of the unemployed in the country and the man could just cry for the few of his colleagues that would leave government. I felt very bad as I watched it live and that is where I really parted company with this man who I had earlier voted for in 2008.
But why not leave him to exercise his democratic right? In democracy, we don’t want people that are scared to exercise their rights. You don’t tell him to stop because you yourself feel so for him. Just don’t vote for him when the time comes. Are you his special political advisor? For me, I have great respect for him because he is the only president who tarred Choma Namwala road which had been gravel since colonialism. My village has tarred road for the first time since Northern Rhodesia was created and it is so efficient for us farmers to drive our maize and other produce to markets.
Kamwale sure true RB has a right to participate in the political affairs of this country but it would be better for him to remain in retirement.
As for the Choma Namwala road, you seem to believe that it was a Rupia Banda project when in fact not. That road project was started by Mwanawasa.
I dont even kno why the gvmnt is takin too long to forfeit his retirement package?i 4 one would wnt him to stand so that he loses, not only the election bt also his benefits so that that money cn b used 4 other development projects
Leave Banda alone.Let us concentrate on the big two.EL and HH.MMD is already out of the race
i like the cantoon though. spot on
Chumbu Mulolwa
you opinion is ok but futile as its not only too late but also biased towards you real intention of de-campaigning RB. As RB uptly put it Boniyopa aba bamabala
Ndine mwana wa anyoko?
Solola Bye
RB should go home as the sign post indicates on the cartoon picture. He had his time and now can rest. We are not jealous of him and we are not claiming to be his Political advisers. We only feel pity and sorry for him. We all know how he cries when he loses and we can’t afford to see him cry like a baby when his benefits are finally withdrawn from him….
The fact is RB is a factor . Dear author, you are not a factor and so no one will talk about you. If you shameless author you don’t want him with your fellow drunkards at the bar, then simply don’t vote for him and don’t think on behalf of others. After all you even have the guts of taking bar resolutions by the drunkards to honourable pipo. I think close your mouth or clean it as it stinks bear.
What do you know about grammar Mushota? You probably think you’re the most educated and clever person alive in Zambia. It isn’t my problem if your grey matter is fatigued to absorb my writing.
Now lets analyze the message from all politicians and presidential candidates taking part in these elections. If possible those with chance ask questions so that they can demonstrate how they will solve the many problems our pipo are facing. Don’t insult without reason we have suffered a lot as a pipo and lets now not look at extra heavy borrowings as a way of showing off your capabilities. Its a burden to innocent children. Wake up guys use your brains! Then finally don’t hate without a reason.
HH supporters are worried that if RB standard all those MMD supporters they thought will come to them will stay with RB Hahaha just campgain
Ya munyokola njala bwezani banda!!!!!!!
Surely Mr Rapiah Bwezeni Banda should stop listening to bootlickers of the likes of Kaiungu and the rest. These chaps certainly know that no one can vote for them hence they have turned on old man Rupiah. Even though he is Bwezeni I don’t think it is in any Zambians’ mind that he should come. Akabwelelo shikulu kalalya. We will not Bweza you. No one has called to always come up whenever the sitting president dies. Please rest and joy your retirement. If you can’t listen to us, then at least listen to your son Andrew Banda.
