Incessant torrential rains have continued to hit most parts of Lusaka, leaving the capital city flooded and strewn with garbage.
A check by ZANIS crew this morning found the central business district, parts of industrial area, Down –town, Kamwala trading area and Kamwala South residential areas as well as Mass Media area, respectively highly flooded.
Traders and residents alike waded through the gushing floods while motorists struggled to drive through the flooded roads as some eventually plunged in ditches and drainages.
The downpour that lasted up to mid- day today in most parts of the Capital city affected most traffic lights on a number of main roads.
Traffic lights at the major road intersection points for example at the Mulungushi house on independence Avenue, civic centre , Kamwala SDA church and Cairo Road post office.
As the rain water began to recede, garbage emerged and was left scattered all over roads, pavements and walk ways.
One of the resident s spoken to Bwalya Chapela castigated the Lusaka City Council for failing to unblock drainages and ensure that the city does not get flooded.
Recently Lusaka City Council Public Relations Officer Brenda Katongolo blamed Lusaka residents for being responsible for the blocked drainages in the city.
Ms Katongolo charged that residents are in the habit of throwing litter carelessly and called for change of attitudes.
It has become predictable that with every rain season, Lusaka gets flooded even after the local authority endeavours to plan and prepare for flush floods.
Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice President Davies Mwango recently declared in Chisamba that government is ready to handle any disasters that may arise as a result of floods.
Looks like some tsunami flood in some Asian country…. eish kewna it’s agony.
Agony is that PF government will not be able to dry-up Lusaka. What a year for the PF -….. disaster after another!!

Well that’s Christmas in London in my cosy Caravan then. It’s certainly more water-tight than Lusaka streets! Maybe I’ll go out to a nice scenic countryside area.
I’ll miss Christmas at home, booooo hoooo, sniff, sniff, cry cry!
I hope it clears up fast so people can have a dry Christmas. Lusaka City Council, please, please do something fast! My sister worked there, in Building Section, oh and my mother also worked for LCC, in the late 60’s. I know LCC is capable to pull out their fingers!

I hear one of the funny/sad videos today was of a guy swimming in the streets. The funniest thing was he was doing backstroke… hope he gets medical treatment fast though. Chuckle.
This flooding is what these liars in government had promised to come and sort out. Still same same, and no shame, even campaigning to come back.
TERRIBLY POOR DRAINAGE SYSTEM IN LUSAKA. LUSAKA SHOULD HAVE AN UNDERGROUND DRAINAGE SYSTEM WHICH SHOULD POUR WHOLE IT’S DRAINED WATERS IN DIFFERENT STREAMS AND RIVERS- KAFUE, CHONGWE, ETC. THE LAND SCAPE OF LUSAKA CANNOT GUARANTEE A SELF-DRAINED CITY SURFACE. IT’S TOO FLAT WITH A LOW WATER TABLE. THE LANDSCAPE OF LUSAKA ISN’T LIKE KAFUE.

And then when the disease outbreaks start, the poor little people will be asked to get on their knees and pray for help from above. Not from their officials noooooo! From God is easier.
The last institution on my mind is Lusaka City Cashiers (LCC). That institution and its sister Ministry of Lands always leave a malaria-like taste
in my mouth whenever I mention them. They are responsible for most of the poverty suffered by civil servants and ordinary people who worked in Lusaka by denying them land and plots. They just shared among themselves. With a weak Cabinet office they have had a field day.
