Government has called upon corporate organisations to help supplement its efforts in supporting and rehabilitating communities that were affected by the floods.
Republican Vice president Rupiah Banda said government on its own will not be able
to raise all the resources needed to implement the rehabilitation plan which it has
put in place following the floods that had hit some parts of the the country during
the last rain season.
He was speaking when he received relief items for flood victims worth K100
million from Stanbic Bank limited.
Mr. Banda expressed gratitude to the bank for its continued support to local
communities in the country.
Among the items donated were 915 blankets worth K 37 million , 300 mosquitoe nets
and 5 000 bottles of chlorine worth over K63 million.
And speaking earlier, Stanbic Managing Director Larry Kalala said his organisation
is aware of the devastating effects left by the floods which prompted its response.
Mr. Kalala said his bank is concerned about the various issues that are currently
facing the African people as a whole.
He added that there is need to take a strong position in ploughing back resources
into communities were the corporate world operates.
