Patriotic Front (PF) President Edgar Lungu has called for calm among his supporters and the nation in general ahead of the full announcement of the January 20 presidential poll results.
This is according to a statement issued on his behalf by PF Secretary General Davies Chama.
Following a high level discussion Mr. Chama held with the PF Presidential candidate, Mr Lungu advised Zambians that the ECZ’s decision to suspend the announcement of results was at the behest of the opposition UPND president Mr. Hakainde Hichilema who presented a complaint demanding the suspension of result updates until voting ends in some 51 polling stations located in some western parts of the country.
ECZ has extended voting in 51 of the total of 6435 polling stations countrywide.
Mr. Chama said the PF President has called on the opposition leader to not to “panic and act irresponsibly” by not informing his supporters that Mr Lungu is responsible for the suspension of updates by the ECZ.
“Anxiety is rising among our supporters and among his supporters as well who are now reported to be protesting saying that ECZ was planning to rig the vote. The suspension has been done at his request but he has neglected to inform his followers that this development is due to his actions,” Mr. Chama said.
“Despite all these actions of panic from the opposition which are leading to heightened anxieties,” Mr. Chama said, “Hon Lungu is calling for calm from our members. We call upon the UPND leader to advice his supporters to remain calm. We would also like to warn him to refrain from all forms of disorderly behaviour that has the potential to disrupt law and order,” Mr. Chama said.
Mr. Chama observed that as results steadily trickling in results that are in possession of the ECZ, the reality of an impending defeat has dawned on Mr. Hichilema. Mr. Hichilema was exhibiting irresponsible behavior designed to inflame people’s emotions instead of waiting for the results verification process to take its full course.
On Mr. Vernon Mwaanga’s “rigging” warning, Mr. Chama said the word is widely associated with Mr. Mwaanga’s name as the PF has never known its existence since the party was formed in 2001.
Meanwhile the Secretary-General of the PF has clarified that the Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) results it challenged TIZ to release was conducted independently by Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) and not by the National Democratic Institute (NDI).
Conversely James Thornton, the British High Commissioner to Zambia has echoed Mr Lungu’s call for calm saying Zambians should patiently await the ECZ announcement of the results tomorrow and maintain peace.
” Also as a party we would like to clearly state that the violence in the recent past, sporadic as it maybe, has at all times been perpetuated by the UPND and not the Patriotic Front. Hon. Lungu has re-affirmed the peaceful nature of the PF which under the late President Michael Sata conceded peace three times. At the expense of sounding monotonous, we would like to conclude by stating that the delay in announcing the results has been necessitated by UPND, not PF. God Bless you all.”

It was only an insult on the ZWD and of course from all those repeating words that that never were. EL simply said “My wife was asking me why that woman is always on my case…..What did you do to her? I said katwishi kwena ifyo fine ifyo namuchita efyo amfwaila” Seriously ZWD has done more harm than good to HH’s campaign. Ask any zambian linguist,they wont isolate an insult in that statement. Perhaps one John Phiri’s innovation of bringing local languages back will help prevent further related calamities.

@2.7 Ndobo – Voting is taking place in only 51 polling stations, not constituencies, in various parts of Zambia. The total number of registered voters at these polling stations is only 21,000. You do the arithmetic – maths might be too difficult for you.

The reason why the West will always remain several steps ahead of us in Africa is that even in an election like we behave like animals, castigate everyone and call them names, we even threaten to deal with them forgetting that we need them. A known HH supporter within TIZ is responsible for the confusion. Which science or statistics, can you use to conclude that HH is winning when 36 constituencies have not completed voting and 58 constituencies have not finished tallying the votes. In Zambia, there are no exit polls that can give you the trend of results. Further sampling 5 voter out of 200 voters on a polling day is not good enough. So this is the problem with HH because he woke to believe wrong things by this staunch supporter and his director of research.
Why not condemn PF as well? Since they’ve been portraying EL as winner from the first vote on ZNBC.
Sensible press release although full of inconsistencies and contradictions. Zambia is one big country with lovely people. We were all campaigning for the person we feel would better for Zambia. Going by the marked regional voting, ECL just needs to breach the 700 thousand mark to win this election, with voter turn out been 33%.I do not see HH passing the 550 thousand mark. A bulk of results with huge scores for HH from North Western will wipe out Edgar’s gains in Northern Province with an extra to be moved to destroy parts of the urban C/belt in which Edgar has a commanding lead. Southern alone will deflate Edgar’s score in the remaining parts of C/belt and sink Lusaka. Be reminded that HH has done fairly good in the rural C/belt and Lusaka.
Western will deal Luapula and Eastern. Eastern only requires a small fraction of poll results from Western to be neutralized since HH is trailing within a safe margin in that province. Central will swallow Muchinga which was previously part of Northern in the 2011 elections and the remaining bulk of votes from within Central province will be an extra bonus to completely seal HH’s victory. Then it will be fireworks.

My apologies for this long absence from the forum. Am still compiling data from North Western Province using my credible sources that are embedded in the system. This may take longer than expected because results from remote areas of Mwinilunga, Kabompo, Solwezi East and Zambezi are still be sorted. This is the province which has not been added yet to the official tally at the ECZ.
As for Western Province, the task will be more challenging because most of the ballot papers from remote polling stations have not yet been reported to their respective central tallying centers. Most of these areas have presented extreme challenges in terms of accessibility due to bad weather that has left streams and rivers filled to the capacity with makeshift bridges completely destroyed.

I have never insulted EL. I have called him chakolwa which is real and Chikwanda confirmed it when he was taped by the post newspaper! If We are defeated I wl concede and be sad for Zambia for I had hoped for better healthcare and education which PF has failed to institute. I’m in healthcare you see and my heart bleeds every time I’m unable to treat a patient due to lack of resources,period. The rate at which people die in Zambia is shocking and I will forever champion for the poor and I dream to see a day when common sense will prevail and people will vote for brains and not on tribal lines. Whoever…..no…..let me say whichever party wins, for Zambians have no analytical capacity for individual capabilities and what they stand for, will be what Zambians deserve! I guess each one that cast their vote did it to their conviction and not coercion! For those who cast their votes such as self proclaimed christians who based their judgement on religious untruths such as Satanism, they must know they have committed sin by usurping Gods powers to judge. The only pitiful thing is that a small percentage of the 14 million plus Zambian population will have decided how the nation is guided! 60 consistuencies: PF 469,910 , UPND 350,023- Total votes cast 851,818-There are many more constituencies whose results have not been announced, concentrated in Eastern,Southern, Western, North western, Copperbelt and central. Expect a total number of the still to be announced votes to some where slightly above 1,000,000. This figure can perform wonders. No party should celebrate as at now as tables can be turned upside down by announcing a few of the coming results. Any party, PF or UPND can carry the day.

@Pretty, the PVT results are real. ECZ is wary that is such information can inflame the tempers & cause chaos in the light of voting which was still taking place in the remaining 51 polling stations. The landslide for Edgar does not include the huge scores of HH from Western, North Western & Southern. This is the very reason why HH stormed Mulungushi centre to seek audience with the chair of ECZ. His concerns are why only areas where Edgar is winning are being announced. To be fair, a compromise was reached, that is to suspend the announcement until those that are still voting have done so to avoid a psychological impact on their behavior. Voter hearing that one particular candidate had won will be discouraged to go and vote for his/her candidate thinking it will be a waste of…
Transparency International Zambia chapter vice president JOESPH KALUNGU says his organisation has NOT declared any candidate in the Presidential race but is merely sharing information received from various constituencies.
Mr. KALUNGU says the aim of TIZ is to promote transparency during the election process.
He says TIZ deployed monitors in a number of polling stations in the 150 constituencies to monitor the voting process that took place yesterday and today.
Mr. KALUNGU notes that it is only the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) that is mandated to officially declare the results of the Presidential elections.

Besides the suspension of announcement of results by ECZ has caught edgar by surprise as he was hoping to order the ECZ to just stop further vote result announcements midway the whole process to rig the outcome in his favour and annouce him winner, assuming that since most of votes counted were in his favour with huge margins, there could have been no way for the opposition to catch up with his PF. Thats why he tried to order the army not to give permits UPND helicopters. This is a very big blow to edgar.
considering most of edgar’s strongholds have already been counted, its a big puzzle how he going to hold onto his so called “leading by big margin” when his zeros from UPND strong holds start rolling.
