We have been shocked by reports in the media of attempted interference at the ECZ offices by Ministers Nkandu Luo and Jean Kapata. Allegations have surfaced that the PF cabinet minsters have sought to apply pressure on ECZ officials to distort the results.
These accusations are even worse than PF behaviour at ZNBC in recent weeks in which PF cabinet ministers reportedly sought to apply pressure on the national broadcaster to influence coverage of their campaign.
Whilst we are alarmed by these reports we remain confident in the ECZ. We know they are working hard to uncover such schemes and address any resultant distortions accordingly. We urge the ECZ to take strong action against the perpetrators.

Emmanuel Mwamba and Xavier Chungu are the masterminds of all this hacking business. 2 Zambians and 1 Kenyan have been arrested in connection with this. Otherwise HH is our next president.

Lusaka, January 22, 2015 – With 90 constituencies having been called in so far by the ECZ that are showing that our candidate Hon. Edgar Lungu is comfortably ahead in the race, I would like on behalf of the party, to re-affirm our call for calm as the Commission finalizes the results.
As a ruling party, we fully comprehend that the Zambian people want a complete set of results and a winner declared as soon as possible but then we are also cognizant of the fact that the law does exist and it must be followed so that we continue leading by example.

But those are from his strongholds. This means that from the remaining 60 he has less than 25 from his strongholds. Remember we have about 14 from Western, 7 from NWP, 5 from Southern and about 10 from central among which are Chisamba, Kemba, Chibombo, Itezhi Tezhi and Katuba. These are UPND strongholds too. At the latest briefing Electoral Chairperson Irene Mambilimba has announced that after adding 10 new results from constituencies, Edgar Lungu remains ahead of his closest rival, Hakainde Hichilema in the presidential race.

Highlights of the press briefing:
(1) Political parties should advise their cadres not to behave irresponsibly in such a way to create chaos & disrupt the work of ECZ.
(2) Police should ensure that the tallying center remains free from interruptions and unruly behaviour from political cadres.
(3) Political parties should refrain from announcing premature results that have not been officially verified by ECZ
(4) ECZ will not be pressured by outsiders to carryout its functions
(5) ECZ will only make known the winner of the presidential election after all votes have been officially verified by ECZ.
