Govt pledges to support Zambia Redcross Society

Share

Government says it will endeavour to ensure that the work of the largest humanitarian organisation in the country, Zambia Redcross Society is supported.

Lusaka Province Minister Charles Shawa says Government is pleased with works of
Zambia Redcross Society of improving people’s living standards and urged the organisation to continue being impartial in its work and appealed to others to
follow suit.

Mr. Shawa was speaking in Luangwa yesterday when he officially launched the post
floods rehabilitation programme organised by the Zambia Red Cross Society.

He said the programme which is aimed at restoring good living standards among the
locals especially in rural areas is commendable.

Mr. Shawa who is also Luangwa Member of Parliament said floods which the country
experienced in the past rainy season which left a devastating destruction did not
spare his constituency.

He observed that the floods adversely affected an estimated 1.4 million people in
Zambia and destroyed crops and infrastructure such as houses, roads and  bridges.

At the same function, Zambia Red Cross Society Secretary General Charles Mushitu
says his organisation is a complementary department of Government and that without
political will (Government) the organisation would not function.

Mr. Mushitu says the society has earmarked three districts namely Chavuma, Luangwa
and Sesheke for rehabilitation following the floods which had severelly hit the
areas.

He said the organisation will build 23 VIP toilets and sink six bore holes in the
area among other projects.

The Zambia Redcross Society has also trained 32 local people in hygiene in line with
the Keep Zambia Clean and Healthy Campaign recently launched by Republican
President, Levy Mwanawasa.

During the occasion, the Organisation donated blankets, bicycles, bricklaying tools
and chlorine to the local people.

  1. Keep it up Secretary General Charles Mushitu and your team.At least since the inception of the organisation in 1966,tangible results have be seen on the ground. Unlike these other organisations such as “Women for Change” which are mushrooming for the sake of fundraising and diverting the money into their own personal use.The damage due to floods in the valley areas was very devastating. If Red Cross can do more than what it is promising, it will highly be appreciated.Where are the other NGO’s in the area of humanitarian AID?We want you to follow suit to contribute financially and physically? You Easy, Chapi, HK and the rest of you guys in the diaspora, this is the time to show cause. Please contribute to Red Cross when you are in the City for shopping.Don’t by pass them and look the other side when they are extending the gadgets where you are supposed to drop the coins. Those coins you consider to be little cents there, can do wonders here.

  2. I am very concerned as well over the whereabouts of Ba Joze.Kuku, will you please shade some light on this?Could it be true that he is the one who is no more?I can`t trust you as well Kuku because since the accident of the late Lusaka Division Police Commanding Officer happened, you have changed your abode all of a sudden.Initially you introduced yourself to me as one who would be found at Main Masala. But since the tragedy happened, you are all over Lusaka. Can you come out in the open and tell us the truth?

  3. Nkhataboy I am also getting concerned very much over these two ominivious beings since Nguni died Ba Joze disappeared and kuku is also nowhere to be heard since the police shot two bandits at northrise in Ndola. Check the story on Zamnet is still there. Sometimes you wonder so much because in the late 70s and 80s there was that lozi man Sitali who diverted the attention of public a Lusaka killer who was just killing women. You know this man was not brought for trial because he killed himself by jumping from the roof at Lusaka central police. This Sitali was a junior army officers living in Arakan Baracks. One of the victims indentified on the parade. Since the case was not concluded rumours were that he doing that to divert the attention of the public and police whilst a few individuals were planing an coup against KK. This grouped included Edward Shamwaana a prominent lawyer. When he later asked why he tried to do that he said there was no other way to change the govt of the day.

  4. #3 Easy, Oh yes, I remember that serial killer who jumped from the roof top at Central Police Station. My fear is that there might come some impostors on the blog in the name of the two. We have to subject them to proper scrutiny once they are back to ensure that they are the ones. At least we know how they write and the language behind their write ups.

  5. I know it is not easy to be in organisation that is there for the people’s needs, but as we know, God has always been on our side as zambians in that he has given us wisdon to tackle every problem that comes our way. Thanks to Mr Mushitu and the Zambia red cross society.
