His Excellency Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia fell ill yesterday while officiating at the Women’s Day celebrations. At Heroes Stadium, the presumptive diagnosis revealed traces of malaria and low blood sugar level.
During his observation and treatment the low sugar level was corrected and the President was able to address the parade on the podium at Heroes Stadium.The President was later taken to Maina Soko Military Hospital for medical tests and observation. Medical tests carried so far ruled out full malaria infection.
The Nation may wish to know that President Lungu has a history of the narrowing of the food pipe (medically known as achalasia), which was corrected 30 years ago at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
The tests have revealed that this condition may have recurred and could have led to the low sugar condition the President experienced during the Women’s Day event.
A team of senior doctors comprising physicians,surgeons, pathologists, and radiologists, reviewed these findings and recommended immediate correction of this condition.
The President is in good condition and the nation shall be informed on further developments.
I will return to issue a second Medical Bulletin at 10:30 am Zambian time on Monday, March 9,2015, at State House in the Briefing Room.

Firstly I wish President Lungu a speedy recovery. Secondly what in the world in going on with Zambian presidents? Is it a reflection of the health status as a nation? We need to uplift the health standards of Zambia…or is State house cursed? Have we offended God somehow?….

It is a bit weird that two respected medical doctors would approve such a conflicting statement:
“a presumptive diagnosis revealed” but malaria was later ruled out? – that doesnt make sense.
A little confused at the first manifestation of achalasia being low blood sugar – normally the patient would have noticed discomfort when eating/ swallowing or would have chest pain or coughing bouts and would have weight loss as the condition progressed.
Are we being told that the president has been unwell for longer than he has cared to admit?
A colleague of mine in the University days had this condition. It’s far from life threatening, the President will be just fine this you can rest assured of. Presidents are ordinary people who are not exempted from conditions that afflict people. I applaud the openness being exhibited. There is no known cure for achalasia. Why is it our presidents are more human than the rest of us? Lets continue being very st.upid. If he has low blood sugar wouldnt it be prudent for statehouse to examine the chap every now and then? And changing statements has never inspired my confidence. First it was levels of fatigue, then malaria, now it is Achalasia – soon it will be Anastasia.
Now it makes sense, low sugar level makes you feel dizzy. If this sugar thing is not treated properly, our president will go blind and I am positive the doctors have told him so already. Lucozade drink is highly recommended when the sugar levels are low, take say 200mls and it reverses the conditions within 5 minutes in some people while others may take longer.
Whatever happens to President Lungu, the successor’s name will not be Summer Kambewa or Hakaenda Halema, full stop.
No one who is controlled by the cartel shall ascend to power in Zambia.

I would like to know who those professionals are. Ladies and gents, there is no such a thing as he has “no full infection” once you have malaria, you have it or you don’t. You treat it right away With medication and even in early stages labs just show an infection and I don’t expect him to be septic but the simple thing to say, he has Malaria and not diminish it further that he has no full blown Malaria Which simply means disease is early stages and yes that is possible. The strain of the disease would actually increase his blood sugar not decrease it. But he is a known diabetic and that can be treated. Anyways wish him well. On Sunday 8th March was International Women’s Day. The Govt’s attention is supposed to be focused on plans and drumming support on what will improve the well being of our mothers, our sisters, our wives etc.. Do you understand the BOOK of KINGS in the OLD testament where some Kings forced themselves to rule ISRAEL and you know what used to happen? Some of those Kings used to rule for barely 2 years and were eliminated by GOD himswelf. Do not and Never ever underestimate the Gravity of some MEN of GOD especially the PROPHETS. You are better off a prophat that one who speaks in toungues. Insult HH, but HH could be a scape GOAT, there could be another one whom GOD is preparing to rule Zambia and not HH.
