WEEKEND SCORECARD: Nsabata Ready for Zesco United Challenge

3

Chipolopolo goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata is aware that he has to work hard to prove his worth at Zesco United.

Nsabata joined Zesco on a three year contract as a free agent on New Year’s Day after five seasons at Zanaco.

The goalkeeper is expected to be second-choice to Kenyan international Ian Otieno.

“When you play for a big club like ZESCO United, expect yourself to be in the spotlight,” Nsabata told Zescounitedfc.co.zm.

“Coming here gives me a great opportunity to return my position at the senior national team. However, I will need to work extra hard by performing very well here.”

Actionaid Welcomes the Firing of Health Minister – He Must Now Face The Law

29

By Nalucha Nganga Ziba
Country Director, ActionAid Zambia

ActionAid Zambia welcomes the much-anticipated firing of Dr. Chitalu Chilufya as the Health Minister. We note that even before the HoneyBee scandal, Dr. Chitalu Chilufya had been at the center stage of various corrupt allegations in the Ministry of Health such as the theft of medication. ActionAid Zambia is of the considered view that Dr Chilufya must be held accountable for his actions in endangering the lives of Zambians and must face the law.

We demand that all those involved in this case be equally be relieved of their duties such as Zambia Medical Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) Management and Board together with the Medical Stores and the two Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Health. We also expect the Doctor’s Association of Zambia to take keen interest at the issue as it borders on medical ethics as they uphold professional ethical standards in the medical profession.

We note with concern and dismay the continued lack of remorse and disregard for human life by the medical institutions involved in this case as it has left the country in suspense in terms of supplied products as the Ministry of Health spokesperson indicated that the products where not distributed. However, ZAMRA issued a statement of recalling the supplied products.

More importantly, Dr. Chitalu Chilufya and his co-accused must now face the law for not only stealing from the Zambian people but also risking their lives. It is our sincere hope that an adequate and vigorous investigation will be undertaken to map out all those that were involved in the scandal and be prosecuted accordingly. We want to emphasize that prosecution is a major tool in the fight against corruption as it ensures that corrupt offenders are severely punished to deter would-be offenders.

Furthermore, the firing of Dr. Chitalu Chilufya should not be left to perish like the cases of other prominent figures such as the social cash transfer who were relieved of their positions over corruption allegations but still undergoing perpetual prosecution while others have not even undergone any form of investigation and prosecution. The law has to be enforced to set as an example and break the cycle of impunity or freedom from punishment or loss.

Capitalize on high copper prices-Dodia

11

An Economic Analyst Yusuf Dodia says a rise in copper prices is good news for a commodity-driven country like Zambia as there will be more foreign currency.

Mr Dodia said more foreign exchange will translate into an appreciation of the Kwacha when it makes imports cheaper, thereby, translating into lower overall prices.

Mr Dodia told ZANIS in an interview that the increase in copper prices will also generate resources that will help to service the debt crisis the country is facing and replicate in capital infrastructure development.

“Copper prices have now reached high levels of around US$8000 a ton ,that means the mining industry in 2021 is likely to export million tons of copper representing US$ 8 billion of export earnings,” Mr Dodia explained.

Mr Dodia stressed that export earnings will be a mechanism for the Government to collect enough taxes from tax payers that will help to finance the 2021 budget.

And Lubinda Habazooka said the increase of copper prices on the London Metal exchange is sweat for Zambia.

“Mines are going to scale up productions that can translate into further jobs being created,” Mr Habazooka.

Copper which is Zambia’s main source of export revenue rose to US$8, 169 a ton on the LME hitting its highest level last recorded in February 2013.

Covid-19 causes mental health challenges-Psychiatrist

9

University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Psychiatrist Registrar Naeem Dalal has revealed that there is a direct and indirect impact of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) outbreak on people’s mental health wellbeing.

Dr. Dalal explained that both the adults and young ones are overwhelmed by the changes in their daily life styles because of the factors that have come with COVID-19.

He said many adults have been affected by economic stress because many people have lost their jobs hence are restless about how they are going to provide for their families.

Dr. Dalal added that even the very preventive measures imposed on the general public to ensure that they adhere to the five golden rules are stressful because some households cannot afford to buy hygiene products, while some have little or no access to clean water.

He further stated that the pandemic has also had an effect on children as COVID-19 has affected the school calendar.

He noted that children, just like any other human being, are expected to observe the public health guidelines hence distressing their mental health.

And Dr. Dalal has indicated that the COVID-19 mental wellbeing becomes worse for those that contract the virus as they become restless and can also develop panic attacks because of the fear of how deadly the disease has been proclaimed.

He disclosed that every one out of five people with COVID-19 end up developing mental health challenges while others suffer from post-traumatic disorder between four to five months after suffering from the virus.

The Psychiatrist Registrar stated that some COVID-19 victims who end up as patients in health facilities do develop anxiety or clinical depression because of what they witness when admitted.

“The preventive measures that have been put in place are causing a lot of challenges within the economic community. A lot of people are losing jobs because of COVID-19 hence creating challenges in homes, including gender based violence and interpersonal violence within communities,” Dr. Dalal explained.

He noted that all these issues are correlated to the impact of the coronavirus outbreak and its severity as it evolves.

And Dr. Dalal has stressed the need for people to look out for one another in an effort to protect themselves saying the virus has brought in irritable life changes on everyone’s lifestyle.

He reiterated the importance of concerted efforts and adherence towards the health guidelines as advised by the Ministry of Health in the fight against COVID-19.

Dr. Dalal was speaking on ZNBC TV during the ‘Doctor On Air’ live programme under the topic ‘mental health and COVID-19’.

Zambia has recorded 1,161 new COVID-19 cases out of 11,700 tests carried out. A total of five deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours.

Among the new 1,161 COVID-19 cases, 191 patients are receiving treatment in health care facilities with 112 on oxygen support while only 86 people have been discharged.

Woman gives birth on bus at Kafulafuta check point.

13

A woman, whose details have not been disclosed, is believed to have around 22:00 hours last night delivered a baby in a nearby bush at Kafulafuta check point.

Masaiti District Commissioner Patrick Zulu said the woman was on a CR bus carriers when she went into labour.

Mr. Zulu confirmed that the woman was helped by an elderly lady who was also on the same bus when the former went into labour on a bus that was heading to Ndola.

He said officers, who were manning Kafulafuta check point did not manage to record the name of the woman and the number plate for the bus.

Mr. Zulu said he is disappointed that police officers could not get the details of the woman and the number plate of the bus.

He told ZANIS that the bus was being driven beyond 21 hours and had the pregnant woman on board whose time to deliver came when the bus she was traveling on reached the Kafulafuta check point.

“The bus belonging to CR carriers was being driven an hour slightly beyond 21 hours, the time allowed for buses to be on the roads. Our mother went into labour immediately it reached the check point in Masaiti, and the woman gave birth on the bus,” Mr. Zulu said.

The District Commissioner explained that the incident happened when the driver was negotiating with officers who were manning the check point on why he was driving the bus beyond the stipulated time.

Mr. Zulu said the officers wanted to impound the bus while the driver laboured to explain to one of the police officers that he was driving at that hour because there was a pregnant woman on board who need to be taken to a nearby health centre.

He explained that in the process, the pregnant woman was taken to a nearby bush by well-wishers where she delivered from with the help of an elderly woman.

“I can say that she gave birth on the bus because by the time she was taken to the bush, labour was in advance stage,” Mr. Zulu said,

Mr Zulu has since appealed to drivers on high ways to make use of health facilities dotted along the road to help people.

He said government has built a lot of health facilities that could be utilised whenever such situations occurred, stating that the place where the woman delivered from was near Chakunte district hospital where she could have been rushed to.

Meanwhile, the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) Head of Public Relations, Fredrick Mubanga said the agency has not received a formal report on the matter regarding a CR bus moving beyond the stipulated time.

Mr. Mubanga said investigations have however been launched to establish why the driver defied the night ban and ended up risking the life of a woman.

“We have received about three press queries on the matter. We are yet to gather facts on the matter and the nation will be informed once that is done,” Mr. Mubanga said.

President Lungu Swears in newly appointed Minister of Water Development Raphael Nakachinda

42

President Edgar Lungu has directed newly appointed Minister of Water Development Raphael Nakachinda to ensure that water harvesting in the country is actualized.

President Lungu said water harvesting has not been taken seriously in the country despite continuous heavy rains and floods.

The President said Zambia can benefit a lot from water harvesting for industrial, agricultural and domestic purposes among others.

“As much as we are blessed with rain this season, we have not yet learnt, as a country, how to harness this rain for both domestic and industrial use. It is time we learnt how to harvest rain for the good of our people because we do not have rainfall throughout the year. Therefore, as the new minister in charge of water, take keen interest in rain harvesting techniques” said President Lungu.

ZANIS reports that the Head of State was speaking when he swore in Mr Nakachinda at State House in Lusaka today.

President Lungu regretted that provision of safe and clean water and sanitation services remain a challenge for many ordinary Zambians despite the Ministry of Water Development engaging and working with cooperating partners to increase access to safe drinking water and sanitation.

The President told Mr Nakachinda to ensure that his ministry improves on the development and management of water resources like the Kafulafuta Dam on the Copperbelt to alleviate water challenges.

“Your appointment comes at a critical time when Zambia is faced with Covid #19, and the heavy rains we have experienced” noted President Lungu, added “Ensure we have enough water throughout the year”.

President Lungu told Mr Nakachinda that he only has four months to hit the ground and make an impact in his ministry which plays a pivotal role in the delivery of services to Zambians.

The President noted that both rural and urban areas across the country have been hit by floods and that there is need for concerted and collaborative efforts from stakeholders and partners to ensure that the situation is put under control.

The Head of State warned the new Minister of Water Development not to entangle himself with the work of technocrats but instead concentrate on formulating policies that should benefit Zambians.

“Your ministry should come up with policies to help our people, your role is policy formulation, I therefore do not expect you to usurp the roles of technocrats because such actions will not only entangle you but the rest of government” said President Lungu.

The President tasked the new Water Development Minister to ensure that investment through Public Private Partnerships is undertaken to develop and improve water infrastructure in order to widen access to water and attain universal access to water by 2030.

And addressing the media after being sworn in, Mr Nakachinda said he will endeavor to ensure that he realizes the vision of President Lungu in the water, sanitation and environment sector.

Mr Nakachinda paid tribute to his predecessor, Dr Jonas Chanda for laying the groundwork for the implementation of sustainable water, sanitation and environmental programmes.

Mr Nakachinda, who was until recently a nominated Member of Parliament, was appointed Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection, taking over from Dr Chanda who replaced sacked Minister of Health Dr Chitalu Chilufya.

Zambia’s First President Dr Kenneth Kaunda is Alive and Fit-Ngolo

25

The Office of Zambia’s First President has refuted social media reports alleging that Dr Kenneth Kaunda has died.

Dr Kaunda’s Administrative Assistant Rodrick Ngolo said in a press statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka on Monday, that Zambia’s founding President is still very much alive.

Mr Ngolo said social media reports originating from West Africa are not true as Dr Kaunda is alive.

“We would like to inform all Zambians and the international community out there that Dr Kenneth Kaunda is fine and in good spirit” reads the statement.

Mr Ngolo regretted that people could condescend and wish an international statesman’s death.

“It is sad that some individuals can stoop so low to start spreading such despicable rumours” said Mr Ngolo.

The former President who is 96 will turn 97 on April 28, this year

COVID-19 spreads to 104 districts

16

The COVID-19 pandemic has now infected a total of 27,728 people with 469 deaths in the 104 of the 116 districts countrywide since it broke out early last year in Zambia.

Earlier yesterday before he was fired then Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya said 1,161 new COVID-19 cases have been recorded out of 11,700 tests done in the last 24 hours.

Dr. Chilufya explained in a statement that the cumulative COVID-19 cases nationally stand at 27,728, adding that the new cases were detected in 47 districts.

He stated that the five districts which are most affected are Lusaka with 365 cases, Ndola 140, Kabwe 137, Rufunsa 74 and Chipata recorded 52 cases.

“Today, 1,161 new COVID-19 cases have been recorded out of 11,700 tests done in the last 24 hours bringing cumulative COVID-19 cases nationally to 27,728. During this second wave we see our health facilities fast filling up,” he said.

Dr. Chilufya has since reiterated his appeal for Zambians to follow the laid down preventive guidelines saying, “Countrymen and women, this global public health threat caused by SARS-CoV-2 is affecting many countries including many on our continent.”

The Minister of Health pointed out that the disease is necessitated by poor adherence to prescribed public health measures coupled with the vicious nature of the new strain in many circumstances being the exacerbating factor of the increased number of cases.

He stated that 191 patients are admitted to the health facilities of which 112 are on oxygen therapy.

“We have discharged 86 people bringing the cumulative recoveries to 20,598. Unfortunately we lost five patients in our health facilities including 2 patients in Levy Isolation Center, a woman in Livingstone Central Hospital, a young man in Solwezi General Hospital, and elderly man in Lewanika General Hospital,” he said.

Dr. Chilufya further revealed the cumulative deaths is 469 with 164 being due to COVID-19, while 291 are associated COVD-19 deaths and 14 are yet to be classified.

He reaffirmed that the only way to manage the outbreak is to stop the person to person transmission by following the five golden rules which are masking up in public, maintaining physical distance, washing hands frequently or use hand sanitizer, avoiding crowded places and staying at home and seeking medical attention early if symptomatic.

The coronavirus is continuing to spread across the world with about 90 million confirmed cases in 190 countries and over 1.8 million deaths.

It’s false to assert that President Lungu was not welcomed by Residents of Mufulira

Chairperson of the Copperbelt Caucus of Members of Parliament Evans Chibanda has dispelled social media assertions that President Edgar Lungu was not welcomed by residents of Mufulira.

Dr. Chibanda, who is also Mufulira Central Member of Parliament, says President LUNGU only used Shinde Stadium as his landing Bay and had no engagement at the ground.

He says the lies being peddled that the stadium was empty are cheap and meant to discredit the ruling party.

Dr. Chibanda says a few months ago, PF Copperbelt Mobilization Committee Chairperson Bowman Lusambo filled Shinde Stadium when he addressed a mobilization rally and President Lungu cannot fail to attract massive crowds there.

The Mufulira Central lawmaker says the UPND and its surrogates on social media must brace themselves for more shock when the Patriotic Front starts holding mammoth rallies soon.

Meanwhile, Copperbelt PF Mobilisation Chairperson Bowman Lusambo says there is enough evidence to show that the presidential motorcade struggled to navigate through the crowds that had lined up to cheer President LUNGU as he toured Mufulira.

And Mr. Lusambo says there is no need to be-labour the point that President Lungu remains highly popular across the Copperbelt including in Mufulira.

He has declared that the PF will get all the 22 seats in the Province including the 3 in Mufulira.

Mr. Lusambo says it is the same Mufulira and Shinde Stadium that he managed to fill up to the brim barely a few months ago during a PF mobilization concert.

He says the Zambian people know what is best for the nation and that they will vote for President Lungu again.

Mr. Lusambo says by attempting to ignore key statements the President made whilst on the Copperbelt around the long term sustainability of the mining sector and the rehabilitation of the strategic roads in the Province, the people peddling false information about the tour are merely trying to brew a storm from a tea cup.

Termination of Dr. Chitalu Chilufya’s Appointment is Not Enough, Prosecution must be Initiated

44

The opposition Socialist Party has said that the termination of the appointment of Dr. Chitalu Chilufya as Minister of Health by President Edgar Lungu was long overdue.

In a statement to the media, Socialist Party General Secretary Dr. Cosmas Musumali said that the termination of Dr. Chilufya’s appointment is however not sufficient and demanded that all the money spent on the procurement must be paid back to the people of Zambia.

Dr. Musumali further said that prosecution must also be initiated against the entire team that was involved in this procurement, including the suppliers of the fake medicines and defective supplies.

Below is the full statement

Press Statement of the Socialist Party on the termination of appointment of Dr. Chitalu Chilufya as Minister of Health

The Socialist Party views the termination of Dr. Chitalu Chilufya’s appointment as Minister of Health by President Edgar Lungu as action that was long overdue.

At the centre of the current corruption scandal is a procurement of USD 17 million worth of fake medicines, leaking condoms and gloves. Apart from the immense amounts of money involved. Thousands of lives of our citizens are endangered by this act of greed and impunity.

The termination of Dr. Chilufya’s appointment is however not sufficient. All the money spent on this procurement must be paid back to the people of Zambia. Criminal prosecution must also be initiated against the entire team that was involved in this procurement. This includes the suppliers of the fake medicines and defective supplies.

This procurement scandal is just one of the many involving the Ministry of Health. Easier access to donor funding, a glaring lack of internal controls, a compromised role of the Ministry of Finance and an Office of the President that has continually been co-opted in a parasitic relationship with the Ministry of Health have all contributed towards the never-ending decay of this key Ministry.

The issue at hand therefore goes beyond Dr. Chilufya. We are dealing with a government agency, like many others, that has nurtured corruption and made it part of its culture.

The newly appointed Minister of Health, Dr. Jonas Chanda, will end up the same way. The greediness and individualism embedded in neo-liberal capitalism compromises the chances for accountability and a leadership that is answerable to the masses of our people. It creates arrogant and little monsters out of would be leaders.

About the Road to 12th August: HOW CHAOTIC COULD IT BE?

15

By Sean Tembo – PeP President

1. For the past 4 years or so, we have been feverishly talking about 2021 general elections. But now that we are here in 2021, we are talking about 12th August. We are now remaining with 8 months to the day of the polls, about 6 months to nominations and only about 4 months to dissolution of Parliament. Speaking for ourselves at the Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP), we are ready for the election season and cannot wait for 12th August so that we can ascertain the graciousness of the voters towards what we stand for as a Party. However, we are aware that there are millions of citizens out there who are apprehensive about this election season for fear that it might be chaotic or even degenerate into open conflict between political parties. Hence the question; how chaotic can it possibly be?

2. My view is that the road to 12th August can be as chaotic as we allow it to be. When l say “we”, l mean us the political leaders. This is because our supporters do what we tell them to do. So if we set our supporters on a path of conflict and chaos, that is exactly what they will do. It is therefore up to us as political leaders to guide our supporters accordingly and ensure that chaos and conflict is avoided at all costs. But that is no easy task, largely because some political leaders’ conduct is inherent with chaos and conflict, while some political leaders actually thrive on conflict and chaos as a source of public sympathy because their candidature is based on playing victim.

3. For example, the upcoming PF convention is likely to be a major source of conflict and chaos, and so will be their adoption process. From my point of view, Mr Lungu’s desire to hound out KBF from the PF simply because he announced plans to challenge him at the convention has actually made the man very popular and a lot of heavyweights in the party are now leaning towards him. Of course l do not think he can unseat Mr Lungu at the convention, but he will significantly tear the PF apart. Whatever will be left of the PF will be further torn apart by the adoption process. A lot of PF members had assumed that Bill 10 will go through and that there will be delimitation of constituencies, hence they had positioned themselves for chunks of constituencies which have not materialized. The end result is that you have a huge number of aspirants and very few constituencies to aspire for, plus most of the incumbent MPs still want to recontest their seats. Most of these aspirants have been on the ground doing mobilization for the past 4 years and they are likely to go through if they stood on any political party or as independents. Any miscalculation on the part of the PF to adopt an unpopular candidate will result in them losing the seat, just like in 2016 when we had an unprecedented number of independent MPs mostly in PF strongholds. All these events have the potential for great conflict and chaos between now and 12th August of this year.

4. But perhaps the greatest potential source of conflict is the planned petitioning of Mr Lungu’s candidature by the UPND and their affiliated activists such as Mr John Sangwa – State Counsel. I have previously stated my opinions on this matter, but given that we are now in 2021 and a few months before the general election, allow me to restate. You see, petitioning Mr Lungu’s candidature may appear like a brilliant idea in the eyes of Mr Lungu’s foes, but trust me, it is a bad idea in more ways than one. For starters, the judgement of the ConCourt in the Dan Pule case is very loud and clear; that the 1 year 8 months that Mr Lungu served as President from 2015 to 2016 does not amount to a term as defined in the constitution. That was the ruling of the Court. You may agree with the ruling or you may not agree, but the bottom line is that it is the ruling of the Court. I’ve noted the shallow arguments that have been advanced by people like John Sangwa and MacDonald Chipenzi to their gullible blind followers, that the Constitutional Court only ruled on the fact that Mr Lungu’s initial 1 year 8 months at the presidency did not amount to a term of office as provided for by the Constitution and not whether he is eligible to stand again this year. It is a matter of common sense really that if Mr Lungu has only served for one term of office as ruled by the Court, then he is eligible for a second term. The Court did not really have to expressly state that in its ruling. It is like two boxers are fighting in the ring and at the end of the match, the referee declares boxer A as the winner and says nothing about boxer B. It does not make sense for boxer B to argue that he did not lose the fight because the referee did not expressly declare him as a loser! That’s the quality of argument that Sangwa and Chipenzi are making.

5. But someone might argue to say why not try to petition Mr Lungu, and if it fails it fails? Well, if the UPND affiliated activists like John Sangwa decided to proceed to petition the candidature of Mr Lungu after filing his nomination, what will happen is that the petition will be thrown out faster than quickly, with costs. But it will not end there, the PF will obviously retaliate by also petitioning the candidature of Mr Hichilema, for whatever flimsy reason. The only difference is that whereas the petition against Mr Lungu will be dealt with expeditiously, the one against Mr Hichilema will not. That is politics 101. At the end of the day, the UPND is likely to find themselves without a presidential candidate barely weeks before the polling day. This will cause panic, chaos and conflict. And there is really no sure way of compelling a Court to expeditiously adjudicate on a matter. Reminds me of the former Heritage Party President General Godfrey Miyanda, who at one time grew frustrated with the failure of the High Court to release a judgement and decided to sue the Court. Suffice to say that he lost.

6. Therefore, by seeking to petition Mr Lungu’s candidature on flimsy grounds, the UPND and its army of activists may be digging a hole for themselves. You see, political manoevres are largely based public morality. What the general public may find acceptable. Therefore, the public may not find it acceptable for the PF to just wake up one morning and decide to petition the candidature of Mr Hichilema and then have a protracted hearing while his candidature hangs in the balance. However, the public would probably find it acceptable if the UPND are the aggressors themselves and start with petitioning the candidature of Mr Lungu and in retaliation the PF also petition the candidature of Mr Hichilema. Even if the petition against Mr Lungu is quickly dismissed while that against Mr Hichilema drags on forever. People will simply say that he is getting a taste of his own medicine.

7. Additionally, the UPND should not deceive themselves that they can get a semblance of justice from the Constitutional Court when it is a matter involving President Lungu. The Court remains strongly pro-Lungu and pro-PF. It is naive for the UPND to think that the Constitutional Court can rule against Mr Lungu’s candidature. There is no chance whatsoever. And l say this from my experience when l was personally prosecuting the eSwatini land case against President Lungu way back in 2018. I faced more hostility from the Constitutional Court that l did from the lawyers defending the President. The UPND should not be misled by the ConCourt judgement for Ministers to pay back the money. It is mere grandstanding.

Fuel Supply in Zambia is back to Normal-Energy Minister

23

Energy Minister Matthew Nkhuwa says the country should expect to see constant fuel supply on the market.

Mr. Nkhuwa says this is because a number of fuel dealers have started importing fuel into the country following the removal VAT on fuel importation.

He says there has been some hiccups in fuel procurement as some dealers had reduced imports, thereby causing a shortage in most areas.

Mr. Nkhuwa says government intends to keep the prices of fuel stable, hence the introduction of the tax waiver.

He has told ZNBC News in a telephone interview that the fuel supply is now back to normal.

Sacking Dr Chilufya came a little too late-HH

89

Opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema has charged that President Edgar Lungu’s decision to fire Dr Chitalu Chilufya has come a little too late.

Mr Hichilema says the sacking of Dr Chilufya does not go far enough and comes in too little too late.

“Mr Edgar Lungu knew all along of Dr Chilufya’s corrupt expeditions at the Ministry of Health, but didn’t relieve him of his duties because it benefited him and the entire Patriotic Front,” he said.

“He didn’t have to wait for the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee to unearth something that was so obvious. We, therefore, demand that the ACC immediately moves in on Dr. Chitalu Chilufya. Mr. Lungu should go further and fire Stephen Kampyongo and Kakoma Kanganja who are equally culpable like Dr. Chilufya, for the deaths of innocent citizens. We demand justice for the Zambian people now,” Mr. Hichilema said.

And UPND Presidential Spokesperson released the following statement

PRESS STATEMENT

We have noted the delayed decision by President Edgar Lungu to relieve Dr. Chitalu Chilufya of his duties as Minister of Health, following a string of unending corruption incidences at the Ministry, the latest one being the $17m Honeybee grand theft syndicate.

We wish to remind the Zambian people, that while Dr. Chilufya has been relieved of his duties, the principal beneficiaries of the criminal activities at the Ministry of Health are the Patriotic Front (PF), and by default President Edgar Lungu himself.

All the criminal activities perpetrated under the PF regime are carried out by agents and sponsors of the PF for the benefit of the PF and President Lungu.

This is also why the PF wasted no time in paying back the monies on behalf of former government Ministers who abrogated the Republican Constitution and illegally drew salaries and allowances. As, agents of the PF, all former Ministers acted illegally for the benefit of the PF and President Lungu.

Therefore, there is an established pattern and culture of unhindered, sponsored criminality against the Zambian Republic by agents of the PF, for the benefit of the PF and President Lungu.

We urge Zambians not to get hoodwinked by the decision of President Lungu to fire Dr. Chilufya, as it does nothing to remedy the tragedy of such unprecedented government sponsored criminal activities against our own people.

It has been established that a supplier, Honeybee supplied leaking condoms, gloves, and fake medicine.

Micho Defends His Decision to Axe Kapumbu

3

Chipolopolo coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic has defended his last minute decision to drop Zesco United defender Fackson Kapumbu.

Kapumbu was axed last Friday in Lusaka as he prepared to head to Cameroon together with the remaining call-ups who had missed the three friendlies in Yaoundé due to club commitments and administrative reasons.

The defender was a late call-up together with Nkana midfielder Harrison Chisala after they impressed for ‘The Rest Team’ against Micho’s “All Stars” on December 28 in Lusaka that ended 1-1.

Chisala has joined the CHAN camp in Cameroon.

“Fackson Kapumbu is an experienced and very good player, but in the pecking order, is third behind Zachariah Chilongoshi and Pride Mwansa and we are looking to cover in every position with two players,” Micho said.

“We know he can give us that dimension for set-pieces and crosses however we believe that in Albert Kangwanda, we have an option that could equally give us that dimension of the left-footed set-piece with good service and direct shooting on goal.

“Regrettably, we couldn’t include him in our squad but we are looking to count on him in the so many activities in front of us.

“We are looking forward to counting on him and we are wishing all the best at Zesco and we shall follow him and the door for him is always open.”
