Chipolopolo Face Libya in Last Pre-CHAN Friendly

4

Chipolopolo will play Libya in midweek in their last pre-2021 CHAN friendly.

Coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic said Chipolopolo will play the 2014 CHAN champions in Douala on January 13.

“On Wednesday we shall play have two of our teams against two teams of Libya in a friendly match at Japoma Stadium in Douala,” Micho said.

Japoma will be Libya’s Group B base where they will duel against Congo-Brazzaville, Niger and record two-time CHAN champions DR Congo.

“That will be our last test and after that test we will know which players are competitors and to keep them up and polish their levels for competitiveness so that they are ready for Tanzania on January 19,” Micho said.

“Those who are not, we will also work on them so that we have a competitive team that will represent Zambian football in the best possible way.”

Zambia have already played three friendlies in Yaoundé since arriving in Cameroon on December 31 after drawing 3-3 win Niger on January 2, losing 2-0 to Uganda on January 4 before beating the CHAN hosts Cameroon 2-0 on January 7.

Chipolopolo are in Group D at CHAN that will be based in Limbe where they will face Tanzania on January 19, Guinea on January 23 and Namibia on January 27.

Tanzania and Guniea will play their final Group D match in Douala on January 27.

President Lungu’s Visit to the Copperbelt was Productive and Very Successful-Nathan Chanda

Copperbelt PF Provincial Chairman Nathan Chanda has described the Head of State’s visit to the Copperbelt as productive and very successful.

On his three days tour on the Copperbelt, President Edgar Lungu toured Lubambe Copper Mine in Chililabombwe, visited Konkola Copper Mines, Mopani Copper Mines, and met with Mine Unions.

I want to start by expressing gratitude that the coming of the President has given hope to the miners on the Copperbelt. His visit to Mopani and KCM has demonstrated that the Head of State wants to protect the interest of the Zambian miners despite some other people wanting to frustrate the Head of State from meeting the miners.

The assurance that the Head of State will not look back but remain focused on improving the welfare of the mining industry, demonstrate that Zambia has a leader who puts the interest of workers first.

This is the win-win situation that we want in the mining sector. President Lungu has continued to create a favorable environment for investment in the country which should benefit the local people.

We also feel that the assurance that no mine will be closed in Zambia, is a sign that his PF Government will continue to protect jobs on the Copperbelt.

As Copperbelt, we will continue to give His Excellency President Edgar Lungu the Support to drive the agenda for Zambia in line with the 7NDP of not leaving anyone behind.

The unprecedented developmental projects that President Lungu has sprouted out to all the ten districts in the province and beyond justifies why he deserves another mandate from the Zambian people, particularly those dwelling on the Copperbelt.

Contrary to reports in some sections of the media that believe in illusions, lied that President Lungu had a failed rally at Mufulira’s Shinde Stadium, the PF has penetrated all areas in the province including rural ones, which were once a preserve of the opposition.

The Copperbelt PF Chief said Shinde Stadium was just a temporal place that was designated as a landing bay for the Presidential Chopper and thereafter proceeded to address party officials at Sunset Motel which he did and was successfully under Covid-19 health guidelines.

Mr. Chanda was speaking in Ndola at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport after seeing off President Lungu that the party on Copperbelt has gained momentum and no opposition political party has the muscle to challenge it.

Mr. Chanda added that the physical inspection of the road projects by President Lungu will result in accelerated execution of the works by the contractors whose part of funds have already been released.

He has since challenged contractors who are going to work on Luanshya and Chililabombwe roads that are in very bad State and Mufulira-Ndola to embrace new technologies that enable them to undertake road projects even in the rainy season without suspending their works in the rain season.

Mr. Chanda also commended party members for having responded positively to the party leadership’s call on the members not to turn out in huge numbers in order to avert further spread of COVID 19 whose figures on confirmed cases are already scaring.

He said, “We want as a party to commend our members for positively responding to our call on the need to strictly adhere to COVID 19 guidelines as guided by the ministry of health.”

Forest Rangers Flatten Winless Kitwe United

3

Forest Rangers roared into the top four on Sunday following an easy 4-0 home victory over winless Kitwe United at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Last season’s FAZ Super Division runners-up returned to winning ways after losing 2-1 in their last game of 2020 away at Kabwe Warriors on December 27.

Midfielder Shadreck Malambo headed-in the first goal in the 28th minute to give Forest a somewhat flattering 1-0 halftime lead had striker Quadri Kola been more clinical in front of United’s goal mouth.

Kola made up for his first half misdemeanours with a tap-in from close -range in the 51st minute.

United defender and captain Moses Lolozi then turned the ball into his own net five minutes later to summarise the visitors form so far this season.

Kola completed his redemption in the 89th minute with a fine volley after a collecting a fine ball from ex-Chipolopolo star Clifford Mulenga.

Forest rise from sixth to third on 19 points, two points behind leaders Zanaco and have displaced their Ndola rivals Zesco United to fourth on goal difference.

United stay riveted at the base of the log and winless after eleven games with just 4 points and already looking set for a quick return to the second tier.

Meanwhile, United’s defeat came in the wake of Stephen Mwansa’s sacking over Christmas who was replaced by assistant George Phiri as caretaker.

HH demands justice for HoneyBee victims

14

Opposition Leader Hakainde Hichilema has demanded that justice must prevail for citizens who were subjected to defective condoms and gloves supplied by honeybee pharmacy which he says is a crime against humanity.

Mr Hichilema is concerned that just like many other injustices that Zambians have been subjected to, nothing will be done to the known perpetrators of this crime against humanity.

He says he understands the public anger in reaction to the stench of alleged corruption coming from the ministry of health which awarded honeybee the contract to supply drugs, surgical gloves and other lifesaving items, authorized these for use and consumption, despite failing quality control tests.

And Mr Hichilema is saddened that even health workers who are working very hard sacrificing their lives have also been put in harm’s way by this regime that gave them defective personal protective equipment.

Below is the full statement

PRESS STATEMENT

10th January 2021

WE DEMAND JUSTICE FOR VICTIMS OF MINISTRY OF HEALTH/HONEYBEE CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY

We fully understand the public anger in reaction to the stench of corruption coming from the Ministry of Health (MoH). They awarded HoneyBee the contract to supply drugs, surgical gloves and other lifesaving items, authorised these for use and consumption, despite failing quality control tests.

We are also cognizant that just like many other injustices that our people have been subjected to, nothing will be done to the known perpetrators of this crime against humanity.

An evil regime does not choose on whom to inflict pain or exploit. These unsafe medical supplies are being used and consumed by everyone regardless of political affiliation, while those involved are enjoying the loot.

The sad situation that has now been created is where citizens are losing confidence in our country’s health care services. This loss of trust subsequently endangers the lives of our citizens as they resort to seeking healthcare from unregistered and unregulated medical providers.

It saddens us greatly to learn that even our health workers who are working very hard sacrificing their lives have also been put in harm’s way by this regime that gave them defective personal protective equipment. This action by the PF government is not only reckless, but criminal as it amounts to crimes against Zambians.

Hakainde Hakainde
UPND President

Meanwhile, UPND Lusaka Province Youth Chairperson, Anderson Banda has said that the PF led Government must take responsibility and immediately compensate the victims of expired drugs and condoms.

The Honey Bee Pharmacy scandal, in which expired drugs and condoms to the tune of US$17 million were supplied to the Ministry of Health, sums up the numerous scandals that the Dr Chilufya led health ministry has been embroiled in since PF assumed public office in 2011.

Speaking when he featured on Joy FM’s Talking Point this morning, Mr Banda pointed out that the failure by the PF Government to notice that simple drugs such as Panado and Coatem being administered on unsuspecting patients had expired meant Zambia was in a serious crisis.

“The PF must immediately compensate all the victims of the expired drugs and condoms. Honestly, if the Ministry of Health can’t determine whether simple drugs such as Paracetamol and Coatem have expired, that means the country is in a serious crisis.
Supplying Zambians with expired drugs and condoms knowingly by Dr Chitalu Chilufya is risking the lives of thousands of Zambians. We want Dr Chitalu Chilufya and his team at MoH to be fired for gross negligence,” he said.

Commenting on the second wave of the novel coronavirus that the world is currently grappling with, Mr Banda observed that had the PF taken the pandemic seriously when it first broke out, the country would have contained the virus.

He accused the PF of risking the lives of the people by down playing the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“What has made the novel coronavirus issue worse is the PF hierarchy who politicised the pandemic when it broke out in 2019. The ones who are calling for strict adherence to COVID-19 regulations are the ones who are abrogating them. We have seen the Minister of Health, Dr Chitalu Chilufya going around the country with a large group of people in turn risking their lives. The PF also shared COVID-19 donations from well wishers,” he said.

He also laughed off assertions by PF that the infamous, gruesome murder of UPND’s Joseph Kaunda and State Prosecutor, Nsama Nsama Chipyoka on 23rd December last year was because they (UPND) caders were “unruly”.

“We are demanding like we have always that Kakoma Kanganja as Police Inspector General-IG-and Home Affairs Minister, Stephen Kampyongo be fired for gross negligence. We also demand the people behind the shooting of the two be brought to book. How can the Police fail to identify the people who killed Nsama Nsama and Kaunda?” wondered Mr Banda.

He has since warned newly appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police in Charge of Operations, Charity Katanga not to accept to be used as a tool of oppression by the PF

Napsa Stars Cage Prison Leopards’ Rampaging Run

3

Napsa Stars rallied on Sunday to tame Prison Leopards’ high-flying run following a 2-1 home win over the promoted side at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka.

Prison came into the match on the back of a four-match winning run that included big kills over Nkana, Buildcon and Lusaka Dynamos that saw them rewarded by leading the FAZ Super Division table into the 2021.

Sunday’s result also saw Prison fail to reclaim top spot that Zanaco have held since last Friday when they beat Kabwe Warriors 2-1 away in Kabwe.

But Prison made a promising start against Napsa when David Obashi put them ahead in the 16th minute to score his fifth goal for the Kabwe side.

Prison’s lead lasted until the 38th minute when 2012 AFCON winner Emmanuel Mayuka converted a penalty.

Mayuka could have completed his brace on the stroke of halftime from another spot-kick but the ball came off the woodwork.

It then took a Simon Nkhata effort in the 90th minute for Napsa to collect only their second league win of the season.

Prison stay put at number two on 20 points, one point behind Zanaco from eleven and twelve games played respectively.

Napsa rise from second from bottom at number 17 to 15th on 10 points from eight games with another four matches in hand.

Farewell 2020, You changed the World Forever

7

By Dr.Parkie Mbozi

THE World did not pay attention nor imagine what TB Joshua meant when on the eve of 2020, on 28th December 2019, he made this prophecy, “This year 2020 will be a year of HUMILITY. This year, the Lord will humble us with our challenges.” He went on, “There is something God wants to achieve concerning this – God wants to achieve humility to the core. He wants everyone to be on their knees, every nation to be on their knees. After that, the solution will come.”

Within five months into 2020, Joshua’s prophecy had already been fulfilled. And what would bring the world to its knees was no other than a small invisible virus known as novel coronavirus, later to be globally known as Covid 19.

On 18th May 2020, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General’s of the World Health Organisation (WHO), in his opening remarks at the World Health Assembly, confessed, “If this virus is teaching us anything, it’s humility. Time for humility. Six months ago, it would have been inconceivable to most that the world’s biggest cities would fall eerily quiet; that shops, restaurants, schools and workplaces would be closed; that global travel would grind to a standstill; that simply shaking hands could be life-threatening.”

On 23rd June, Dr Robert Redfield, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention equally confessed that the outbreak of COVID-19 had “brought this nation to its knees.” Redfield told the Energy and Commerce Committee of Congress that. “We’ve all done the best that we can do to tackle this virus,” but confessed that coronavirus had humbled the entire nation.

The COVID-19 virus has thus been described as a fastest-spreading respiratory infection. Within two months (by February 2020) it had claimed 2,750 lives, which was more than the 774 killed by SARS – Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome – and 8,100 infections over eight months in 2003. Experts say COVID-19 has been spreading at a rate 10 times higher than SARS and its mortality is 2% compared to 1% of SARS. And in less than one year it has already mutated into a variant that is said to be 70 times more infectious.

To say that the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has changed the world would be an understatement. In just about a year since the virus emerged on 2nd December 2019 in Wuhan China, and in just less than a year since it first hit Europe and the USA, the disease has upended day-to-day lives across the globe. It has changed everything about us – how we work, travel, learn and interact. The social distancing rules have led to a more virtual existence, both personally and professionally. In this article I discuss how the pandemic has affected and changed the world and our lives for many years to come, if not forever.

The pandemic presents tough choices for governments, local communities, health and school systems, as well as families and businesses: How to re-open safely? How to safeguard people’s lives and protect their livelihoods? Where to allocate scarce resources? How to protect those unable to protect themselves? Answers to questions like these will affect our short-term success in battling the spread of the virus and could have impacts for generations to come.

Negatives

Within two months, by February, the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the global economy had been profound and yet to be fully felt even to date, a year later. Within two days of the first case in the USA markets across the world had been sent tumbling. In the USA the Dow Jones plunged by 1,910 within two days. Shares and currencies across Asia had slumped sharply. As we ended the year, yesterday, not a single country and economic sector can be said to have been spared. A of number companies across the globe ended the year with Zero profits in 2020 and job losses were reported everywhere because of the coronavirus.

The economic impact was fast-tracked as affected countries stimulated a wide range of measures to prevent and contain the outbreak. Most of the measures have had economic ramifications. They included: travel bans, (for flights, train, buses, etc), closing border crossing, suspending air links, quarantines, ‘complete ban’ on wildlife trade (China), postponement of major events, including sports, and shutting trade links.

Loss of lives due to Covid 19 or various illnesses or complications of diseases occurring amongst the patients, especially the elderly, has been one of the most profound social and emotional impacts of the virus. Zambia and other sub-Saharan countries may have been spared in 2020 but who knows how the disease unfolds in 2021 and beyond? In just over 12 months since the pandemic broke out, as of 30th December 2020, Covid 19 had infected an estimated 82,326,252 and claimed 1,796,477, with the huge majority occurring in Americas, Europe and Asia. The pandemic situation has created fear, stress, stigma, minimising social networks, etc.

Although Africa’s contribution to the global cumulative total has been relatively marginal, just below 3.5% of both infections and deaths, there are realistic concerns that the continent cannot cope with a full-blown outbreak. We ended the year with South Africa being one of the two countries reporting the new strain of the virus, which is 70 times more infectious albeit being less lethal. With open and porous borders and free trade across southern Africa, who knows how this variant (strain) will churn out come 2021 and beyond?

Our personal lives changed

In HIV and AIDS campaigns, the following saying was adopted years back, “it is either you are infected or you are affected.” Who thought this would apply to Covid 19 within a year of its outbreak? As we ended 2020, all of us across the globe (without exception) had experienced the imposition of lockdowns in our countries and across countries, with the imposition of international travel bans. Think about the meetings, workshops, graduation ceremonies, business trips, international conferences, etc we had to miss or hold virtually. As individuals, we have had to make uncomfortable changes – both big and small – to our everyday lives.

Dismantling the family relationship and intimate relationships with relatives, neighbours, various communities, etc. These conditions were predicated to lead to interpersonal conflicts and domestic violence in the family. And indeed there have been reports of increased domestic and gender-based violence in countries such as South Africa. Studies focused on mental health have also revealed deterioration in this area too.

We have also experienced disruptions of schools, universities and vocational education as optional strategies (e.g. e-learning, virtual lessons, etc) to cover up their educational goals have had to be experimented for the first time, especially among lower level educational institutions (schools). In Zambia educational broadcasting has been tried but initial assessment reveal that these have been total failures, what with the massive digital divide (e.g. low radio and TV ownership and Internet access in many parts of the country). All supply chain networks in the education field have been interrupted. These challenges have resulted in irreversible gaps in learning outcomes.

As predicted by economists, there has also been downward trends of family economic conditions and several lower hierarchy social classes have faced unbearable economic hardships due to lack of daily or monthly earnings. The purchasing power of families has been severely affected even though goods and service supply chain networks (i.e. markets, shops, supermarkets, etc) have been in place by and large.

At a national and global level economic recession and increase in poverty level in society were predicted and have taken root. This has led to financial crises such as a decline in monetary values, share market values and businesses and changes in supply chain networks. As we have heard from our leaders, the pandemic situation has directly negatively affected attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined to be achieved by 2030, since some countries are unable to allocate financial resources to meet the country-specific targets.

Positives

As they say, every crisis presents its own opportunities.

First, the health guidelines, such as social distancing, have also allowed us to explore hobbies and interests and learn new skills that we might never have had before, such as virtual platforms for various purposes – learning, church services, social networking, etc. We have earnt to turn to social media to solve reallife mysteries from our homes. So, while we have been forced to be physically distanced, the Internet and social media have allowed us to reach into each other’s homes and places of worship.

We have learnt to hold meetings while physically separated and to run businesses for clients or customers who cannot turn up at our restaurant or shop. Overall, social relationships for many seem not to have suffered. As predicted by Manuel Castells, the father of the Network Society theory, it is time for survival of the networked. The innovative have turned the Covid 19 crisis into an opportunity. It is no longer business as usual. The report of the World Economic Forum, for instance, says, “Global billionaires managed to increase their collective wealth by 27.5% during the four-month period, to $10.2 trillion.”

Down here in Zambia, for instance, while some protestant churches resorted to virtual service and prayer meetings soon as the lockdown measures were announced, the Catholics just stayed away and kept waiting for relaxation of the measures. When they finally resumed in-personal service a few months ago, they may have many their flock for sure.

Behind all the suffering and disruption and economic hardship of the coronavirus pandemic, an even larger global crisis was lurking: climate change. There were questions about whether our experiences with the international lockdowns could help or harm the environmental cause. Fortunately, humanities miseries have turned into rising fortunes for Mother Nature. One report on environment impact reveals an “improvement in urban environments – with cleaner-smelling air, calmer, safer roads and bolder wildlife – which offers a glimpse of what a greener world might be like to live in.” Fellow satellite TV watchers may recall images of cheetahs literary ‘sleeping’ on the roads of Krugger National Park in South Africa. How nice!

Satellite data have revealed a drop in atmospheric levels of nitrogen dioxide (a key air pollutant released by the burning of fossil fuels) over cities and industrial centres across Europe and Asia as traffic and factories quietened. In some regions of the world temperatures were reported to have fallen by 30-40% compared to the same time in 2019 and before. So alongside slowing the transmission of the coronavirus, the lockdowns and consequent reduction in industrial air pollution is itself predicted “to have probably saved the lives of tens or hundreds of thousands of people.”

It’s been estimated that the slowdown of the world’s economy caused by the pandemic would reduce global CO2 emissions for 2020 by 8%. A group of scientists say, “If we are to limit global warming to less than 1.5C above pre-industrial temperatures, as stipulated in the Paris Agreement, we would need to reduce emissions by this amount each year for the coming decades.”

When these positive and negative impacts are considered, it is very clear that COVID-19 has caused more positive impacts to the nations, regions and the world, particularly to South Asian countries. For better for worse, 2020 will indeed be remembered for many years to come in the same way we still remember the 1918 – 20 Spanish flu that killed about 500 million people globally.

Farewell 2020! We will miss you – for the opportunity of working (or is it waiting for some people) from home. That opportunity enabled us to make our farms more productive.

Home Affairs Minister and Muchinga Province Minister Test Positive for Covid-19

29

Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo and Muchinga Province Minister Malozo Sichone has tested positive to COVID 19.

Mr. Kampyongo was subjected to a test whilst on a tour of duty in Shiwangandu and has been put in isolation at Chinsali General Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Home Affairs Public Relations Officer Nephas Chifuta has confirmed this in a statement to ZNBC news.

Mr. Chifuta said the ministry has since wished its Minister a quick recovery and God’s strength to his family during this hard time.

And Mr. Sichone who confirmed the development to ZANIS in Chinsali said he took a rapid COVID -19 test on Thursday at Chilonga mission hospital in Mpika.

He has since been quarantined at his home in Mpika and described his condition as stable .

Mr. Sichone who is also Isoka Member of Parliament, has advised people to always adhere to the health protocols put in place by the Ministry of health aimed at halting the further spread of the pandemic .

Mr. Sichone says the COVID -19 cases are on the rise again in Muchinga especially in Mpika and Nakonde districts.

He has since directed people of Muchinga to avoid public events such as weddings, kitchen parties, funerals, and church gatherings, among others.

And Muchinga Provincial Health Director Nero Chilembo has appealed to people in the province to take precaution measures to avoid contracting the deadly disease.

Kaindu: Nkana Won’t Underrate Tihad Casablanca

3

Nkana coach Kelvin Kaindu says they will not underrate 2020/2021 CAF Confederation Cup pre-group stage opponents Tihad Casablanca just because they are a Moroccan 2nd Division club.

Tihad qualified to represent Morocco in continental competition this term after winning the Throne Cup in the 2019/2020 season.

“I think in CAF they are no teams that you can consider to be minors,” Kaindu told LT Sports.

“Yes, probably it is the first time they have qualified to CAF but I think they are not there by mistake.

“They are the Cup winners and I think they worked hard to be there.

“This is just not an ordinary team, this is a North African team, and we know what North African teams can do when they come to play against us from the southern region.

“So I think we will take it seriously and pray complacency does not affect us in this game.”

Nkana have only eliminated one North African team from continental action that came in the 2014 edition of the CAF Confederation Cup.

They ejected CA Bizertin of Tunisia on away goals rule following a 1-1 draw to see Nkana make their long-awaited group stage debut by the same aggregate score line.

Nkana will be home in the first leg on February 13 and travel to Morocco for the final leg on February 21.

But the Kitwe giants have yet to win at home in continental football this season after two draws in the CAF Champions League when they finished 0-0 against Bantu FC of Lesotho and 1-1 with Petro Atletico of Angola.

Nkana were relegated to the Confederation Cup after Petro eliminated them 2-1 on aggregate at the pre-group stage of the CAF Champions League.

President Lungu’s Visit has rejuvenated the Party on the Copperbelt-Musukwa

The Patriotic Front (PF) Chairperson for Mobilisation Richard Musukwa has said that the visit to the Copperbelt Province by President Edgar Lungu has rejuvenated the Party in the region.

Mr. Musukwa said that the thunderous welcome given to the President has shown that the PF is still strong on the Copperbelt.

Mr. Musukwa said that people lined up the streets despite having been discouraged just to have a glimpse of the President.

Mr. Musukwa said that President Lungu does not take this support for granted and will pay back by providing the people with key infrastructure such as roads.

He told ZNBC news that miners at KCM and Mopani are happy with the assurance that was given by the President regarding their welfare.

Mr. Musukwa said miners and suppliers on the Copperbelt should not be lied to by any one because President Lungu has publicly told them that he will protect their interest.

He said Copperbelt will in August show the opposition that elections are won on the ground and not social media.

Mr. Musukwa said this time around there will be no apathy on the Copperbelt because people want the PF to continue in office.

He said while the opposition is busy promoting propaganda, the PF is providing development to the people.

Minister of Health Dr Chitalu Chilufya must resign over the HoneyBee Scandal

The United Party for National Development (UPND) in Chingola has asked the Minister of Health Dr Chitalu Chilufya to resign from his position for allowing his ministry to procure expired drugs, condoms and gloves.

Speaking on Iwave radio yesterday afternoon on Programme dubbed, “the community platform”, Chingola District vice Chairman for politics Alex Mwale said Dr. Chilufya must resign for endangering Zambian lives. Mr. Mwale stated that how many people have risked their by these expired drugs and condoms as revealed by PAC?

“If Dr. Chitalu can’t resign on his own, then we expect President Edgar Lungu who is his appointing authority to fire him especially that this is not the first time his ministry has involved itself is in a similar scandal”, Mr Mwale demanded.
Mr. Mwale added that should President Lungu fail to relieve Dr. Chilufya of his duties, Zambians will be justified once they start speculating that President Lungu is in support of the wrong things happening at the ministry of health. “Zambians should not expect such things of buying expired drugs to be happening under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema and this is the reason why we want him to be the Republican President after August 12 this year”. Mr. Mwale added.

On KCM Mr. Mwale reminded the listeners that without pressure from UPND, Vedanta would have been running KCM to date. “Since we are the ones who forced government to act against vedanta, we are also demanding that let the Liquidator (Mr. Milingo Lungu) pay miners’ severance package at once and not in three installments,” said Mwale. He further demanded that KCM must be sold as a unit and not splitting it into two companies because this will mean that each company will have it’s condition of service for their employees. “It is also possible that the two buyers for Konkola Mineral Resources Limited and Konkola Smelterco limited are small companies that may not even be capable of running the mines,” explained Mr Mwale.

Earlier, Mr. Mwale told listeners that as UPND just like many Zambians, we were shocked to learn that President HH was blocked by state security from leaving Lusaka to the copperbelt where he was scheduled to attend the burial for Copperbelt our Youth Chairman the late Ronald Bwalya Manenga MHSRIP who died in a road accident just because President Lungu was also on the copperbelt. “Where on earth have you ever heard someone being stopped from mourning their loved ones?” Mr. Mwale asked.
When time for calling in came, all the callers except for two agreed with Mr. Mwale and pledged to vote for HH and all UPND candidates in this year’s general elections.

Arrest Chomba Kaoma: HoneyBee Corruption Must Have Been with Lungu’s Blessing

61

By Otis Bwalya

Zambians this week have been treated to some bizarre revelations courtesy of the all too familiar corruption that takes place at the Ministry of Health. At the center of the Public Accounts Committee hearings was the little known and professionally unqualified kantemba company called Honey Bee Pharmacy which was not only awarded a $17million contract to supply health kits but also ended up supplying expired drugs and defective condoms & gloves to the Zambian people.

The genesis of how a company that had failed all the 20 ZAMRA mandatory test was awarded this contract is now public knowledge. However, what people appear not to be making a connection of is the involvement of Chomba Kaoma a very close associate of President Edgar Lungu. Social media is replete with images of the president going for jogging or state functions with Chomba Kaoma in tow. There is also a video which shows this very Chomba Kaoma talking about how he and his partner Honey Bee Director Zakir have been awarded a contract by ministry of health to supply drugs.

Chomba Kaoma
Chomba Kaoma

We hereby call for the immediate arrest of Chomba Kaoma who happens to be the friend to the President. Isn’t it a wonder that President Lungu, despite public outcry, has blatantly refused to even just comment on this scandal and daylight theft of taxpayers money? In a functional country even Dr Chitalu Chilufya and all his permanent secretaries would have long been fired. All those involved in this scandal would have been arrested and appearing in court. The only reason why president Lungu is not taking action over the Honey Bee saga is because it is too close to home. He probably has his fingers in the $17million through Chomba Kaoma.

This is the kind of theft and corruption that the zambian people must say no to. People’s lives have been put in grave danger by those defective condoms and gloves that were supplied. We cannot even begin to imagine the harm that has been occasioned by the expired drugs that were distributed by President Lungu and his friend.

As a country, we cannot allow this to continue unabated, we should all say no such criminality by making sure that come elections time in August this year we vote out this heartless regime which is rotten to the core and elect in UPND so that we redeem our country from these looters and plundered.

Continue your approach of not getting involved in partisan politics, Lungu tells SDA Church

41

President Edgar Lungu has encouraged the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church to continue with its approach of not getting involved in partisan politics.

The Head of state said that the SDA is one of the shining examples of how the Church should conduct its affairs when it comes to uniting people across the country. President Lungu said that the Church has continued embracing people with the view of promoting unity away from active politics.

President Lungu said that the growing trend where some Churches have decided to take part in partisan politics is not good for the country and that if this trend continues it has potential to destroy the country.

President Lungu who was accompanied by cabinet Ministers and other government officials said this when he attended the SDA Northern Zambia Union Conference in Kitwe.

And SDA Northern Zambia Union Conference President Samuel Sinyangwe urged church leaders to stick to their lane. Pastor Sinyangwe said the violence that happens in society should not be blamed on politicians alone but also the Church. He said Church leaders should preach love and peace if they do not want to see violence in society.

Pastor Sinyangwe said he is proud of the youths in the SDA Church because they know their role in society. He told the President Lungu during a sermon that if he finds someone causing trouble on the street then that person is not a real Adventist.

COVID-19 enforcement crack downs on bars and night clubs begins in Lusaka

11

LUSAKA PROVINCE Minister Hon Bowman Lusambo Friday night led the multi-sectoral COVID-19 taskforce into an enforcement of health guidelines which led to closure of 15 bars and night clubs in various parts of Lusaka.

And Minister Lusambo says the provincial multi sectoral COVID-19 taskforce will find new strategies that will ensure compliances to the guidelines in Lusaka which is the epicenter of the deadly pandemic.

The team which swung into action last night kicked off the operations from G-green in Chalala residential area where revelers scampered in different directions breaking bottles as they tried to escape the Police.

Some of the patrons at Libala’s breakpoint who hid in the Toilets were forced out with some ladies covering their Faces.
The team also went to various Bars and Nightclubs in Chilenje, SOS and Matero where the Police were forced to Teargas the unruly Patrons.

Minister Lusambo observed that most of the famous Night Clubs and Bars were operating beyond the recommended time yet they were directed to sale their beverages on a take away basis.

“We cannot win the fight against covid-19 if our people continue to ignore the health guidelines
as though Lusaka has not recorded any case of COVID-19 with no regard for social distance and putting on face masks,” said Hon Lusambo.

And Minister Lusambo has called for new measures to be enforced to ensure that Lusaka residents are protected from COVID -19 pandemic which is threatening the lives of all the people.

The Provincial Minister pointed out that the conduct of the people in drinking places is unfortunate because it’s not helping the province in its strides to kick out the pandemic which is disrupting people’s life styles and the country’s economy.
Lusambo, alias The Bulldozer, warned that he will not allow people to continue patronizing bars and night clubs when there is a threat of COVID-19 pandemic.

“How can we fight COVID 19 like this when people are freely drinking in overcrowded places? From here they will go and infect the innocent people at home, this is bad. It has to stop,” Mr Lusambo said.

Meanwhile, Lusaka City Council Director of Public Health Edgar Mulwanda said the owners of the 15 night clubs which have been closed, will be prosecuted through a fast track Court for failing to operate within the recommended time.
And Mr Mulwanda noted that Bars and Night Club owners have been engaged enough and it’s time for the council to take a tuff stance against them.

“We have talked enough to these owners of the bars and night clubs now it is time to take action by ensuring that whoever goes against the laid down rules is prosecuted,” Mr Mulwando said.

Meanwhile, Lusaka Province Health Director Consist Mwale said COVID-19 is real and people should take the threat seriously and ensure that they avoid being found in night clubs which are overcrowded.

Lusaka has been recording the highest infection of covid-19 case since the disease broke out pandemic s last year.

The COVID-19 outbreak in Zambia continues to accelerate-Dr Chilufya

The COVID-19 outbreak in Zambia continues to accelerate, characterised by increasing number of cases, severity of disease with over sixty percent of the patients in health facilities requiring oxygen therapy and advanced medication. Furthermore we note increasing number of persons dying in the community or brought in too late to the health facility.

Today we lose again a national leader, Hon. Chrispine Mumba Musosha. Allow me to pay my condolences his family during this trying moment. May His Soul Rest in Eternal Peace.

The current disease pattern indicates speedy transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and quick progression of disease in especially persons with underlining conditions such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Immunocompromised conditions and even among obese persons.

The success in this battle against COVID-19 remains in our hands as individuals and communities. The laxity in compliance to the prescribed public health measures is an exacerbating factor as we continuously increase chances of transmission in the night clubs, bars, restaurants, parties, weddings and funerals among other social events that we patronise.

This morning I learnt with a heavy heart how many young and middle aged people were found patronising in social events and public places without any observation of mask wearing, hand hygiene of physical distancing.

I must warn that in line with the Public Health Act CAP 295. of the Laws of Zambia and Statutory instruments 21, 22 and 62, the law will visit those flouting the public health regulations and action accordingly.

Today, Zambia has recorded another high 1,241 COVID-19 cases and 23 deaths out of 12,383 tests conducted nationally in the last 24 hours. A total of 163 people have been discharged within healthcare and homecare facility management in the last 24 hrs. However, with the new admissions we now have 191 patients under healthcare management with 108 on oxygen therapy.

The cumulative totals now stand at 26,567 cases, 464 deaths and 20,512 recoveries. Of the deaths, 159 are due to COVID-19, while 291 are associated COVD-19 deaths and 14 are yet to be classified.

Let us together with unity of purpose collectively fight the COVID-19: 1) Mask up in public; 2) Maintain physical distance; 3) Wash hands frequently or use hand sanitizer; 4) Avoid crowded places and stay at home; 5) Seek medical attention early if symptomatic.

Patriotic Front Secretary General Davies Mwila has said that all former ministers who stayed in office after the dissolution of parliament in 2016 have refunded the treasury the emoluments and allowances they obtained.

Mr. Mwila said that the resources came from within the party and well-wishers, adding that the PF treasures the rule of law hence its action to settle the bill.

Mr. Mwila was speaking at a media briefing in Kitwe and said that the Ministers offered selfless services to the Zambian people.

Mwila has announced that well-wishers have paid for the PF Members who accrued salaries while serving between May and August 2016.

“Our reconciliation of the payments made reveals that the judgment sum has been settled by our members. I would like to thank the people who were affected by the judgment and took the responsibility upon themselves to pay. This was done despite them having worked during this period. This indeed is a selfless service that was done to the Zambian people. Secondly, I would also like to thank the companies and individuals that have made donations towards the settlement of emoluments, ” Mr. Mwila said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mwila has warned aspiring candidates to desist from de-campaigning incumbents. Mr. Mwila said the decision to allow people to aspire for various positions was in good faith and should not be used to discredit others, adding that the party will take disciplinary action against all those found wanting.

And Mr. Mwila said the Central Committee will soon meet to decide on the party’s General Conference after provincial conferences are held in Northern and Luapula.

He said the Northern Province Conference will be held on 23rd January 2021 while the Luapula Province conference will be held on 30th January 2021.
