Hon. Lusambo and the PF have turned the church into a political platform: What would Jesus say?

17

Similar to what he told the money changers in the temple, Jesus would tell today Zambian politicians, “you have turned my church into a political platform.”

Being a declared Christian nation doesn’t mean that Zambian politicians are ordained to speak at any church gathering. Hence, is out of respect that politicians are given the opportunity to speak to congregates whenever they visit churches.

Unfortunately, when given the opportunity to speak, politicians choose to speak politics. Attacking and demeaning political opponents. An act that totally diverges away from the principles of a Christian nation.

Sincerity, honesty, and love should lead whenever politicians are given the opportunity to speak before the church. Instead, congregates hears the opposite.

Meanwhile, can Hon. Bowman Lusambo, who not long ago declared Copperbelt Province a no-go area for UPND President Hakainde Hichilema today tells people to reject politicians sowing seeds of tribalism and regionalism?

It is reported that when Hon. Lusambo attended a fundraising Sunday, December 6, service for Dominion Church International building project in Choma, Southern Province, he called on the church to reject politicians sowing seeds of tribalism and regionalism.

Unless he has a different interpretation of his statement “reject politicians sowing seeds of tribalism and regionalism” and is willing to share it with the people, it is a mockery.

Hon. Lusambo was mocking the people of Choma for according to him a warm and tender welcome. They were supposed to reject him per his statement as he is the main sower of the seeds of tribalism and regionalism.

Hon. Lusambo needed to be sincere and honest with the members of Dominion Church International: Except for I, Bowman Lusambo, reject politicians sowing seeds of tribalism and regionalism.

“I wish to announce that our members on the Copperbelt will make it impossible for the UPND to conduct any business in the province,” declared Hon. Lusambo a few months ago.

He is too young to forget his own contemporary statements. If that is not what he means by “sowing the seeds of tribalism and regionalism,” he must prepare a very long explanation because very few people will be able to grasp his point.

Nkanda yatu and Kasslita designs leave an impression at MTC Windhoek Fashion week 2020

Zambian designers ,Kabaso Nkandu of Nkanda Yatu and Kasonde Nkole of Kasslita’s Designs merged their creative minds for the Windhoek Fashion Week 2020. The fashion designers revealed their showcase themed “We Are Africans” with electrifying social media teasers that had the country calling out for more. Attendants of the Windhoek Fashion Week on the 5th of December 2020 surely received the full treat of the high fashion collaboration – a blend of African print and Western style that represented a modern take on Pan-African fashion.
This was not a first for Naknda Yatu which is the leading fashion brand in men’s fashion in Zambia. In 2019, Nkanda Yatu showcased at the Windhoek Fashion Week and describes the experience as an awakening of how diverse the fashion industry has become in Africa. “African fashion is growing and receiving global attention, opportunities such as the Windhoek Fashion Week create exposure for talent across the continent and beyond”, stated Kabaso Nkandu.
While the Namibian audience may have been surprised to see the combination of Naknda Yatu with Kasslita Designs, the two designers have been known to collaborate on multiple showcases in Zambia. However, this particular collaboration was more strategic; “international showcases are impactful in representing our country, i decided to partner with Kasslita Designs to have an even bigger impact in promoting Zambian fashion”.
The fabulous garments showcased by the duo were complimented by a team of talented models, hair-stylists and photographers such as Niva Hankede, Christina Sakala and Afropologie Studio. Corporates such as Diamond TV jumped on board by sponsoring the Zambian entourage in Namibia.
More details of the showcase can be found on Nkanda Yatu and Windhoek Fashion Week social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Div 1 New Boys Kashikishi Set Bold CAF Ambitions

2

The owner of FAZ National Division 1 side Kashikishi Warriors Abraham Katumbi has revealed his vision to see the Nchelenge outfit compete in CAF club competitions in the near future.

Kashikishi secured promotion from the Luapula Provincial League to the National Division 1 this year.

Katumbi, a business executive, said his immediate target is to see Kashikishi win promotion to the Super Division.

In a recent interview, Katumbi appeared unfazed by his team’s slow start to the 2020/21 season.

Winless Kashikishi are bottom of the table with three points after recording four losses and three draws.

Katumbi said the team will overcome its unconvincing start to the season and secure promotion to the top league at the end of the current season.

“I have started this project here in our village because I want us to play Premier League games. I also want us to play continental competition games,” he said.

Katumbi has already constructed a stadium deep in the heart of Kashikishi which is currently furnishing.

“In future we want to see the National Team come here to Luapula to train instead of going to Madagascar or Ghana. Here in Luapula we have everything like water, mountains and sand to enable a team train. A team can train adequately,” he said.

Kashikishi are coached by former FAZ Super Division star Mathews ‘Papa’ Kamwashi.

NDC advises ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Patrick Nshindano to Resign to Save Face

13

By Kennedy Siyanda Lusaka Province NDC Chairman

As NDC Lusaka Province we wish to comment on the latest statement by ECZ Spokesperson Sylvia Bwalya exonerating her office from any involvement in the issuance of voter’s cards to youths below the age of 18 years.

Bwalya claims that the photos circulating on social media were doctored to tarnish the good image of the ECZ.

As NDC, we strongly disagree with ECZ for trying to hoodwink the general public that it has no knowledge about underage youths accessing voters’ cards in PF strongholds. We wish to advise Bwalya that in this era of Smartphones and social media, there is almost nothing secret.

Bwalya must be reminded that PF cadres have shown extreme desperation to win the 2021 Elections and in doing so they have compelled the ECZ to issue voters’ cards to underage youths.

We also wish to advise Bwalya, that the ECZ has no credibility at all. The ECZ lost credibility in 2016 when Chairperson Justice Esau Chulu helped President Edgar Lungu to win those elections.

Chulu announced fake results from Chitulika Constituency which is non-existent. The reality is that Chitulika is a Polling Station in Muchinga Province.

In addition, Chulu announced results in Lundazi Constituency which were more than the number of registered voters.

As NDC Lusaka province, we warned Patrick Kryticous Nshindano that he risked tarnishing his reputation by accepting the position of Chief Electoral Officer. While we understand the financial rewards involved, we have been vindicated because Nshindano’s reputation has been grossly tarnished. Nshindano is now taking the blame for messing up the entire Voter Registration Exercise resulting in national complaints.

Nshindano and not Chulu is the one who is being blamed for the mess. Therefore, we are urging Nshindano to save his little credibility by resigning from this mess which poses a serious risk to national security.

In case Nshindano is not aware, Zambians including the underage youths induced by PF are registering as voters not to oppose the opposition but to vote out the PF for creating an economic crisis.

Zambians are spending over five (5) hours lining up to get the voters cards as a tool to fix the Lungu administration.

Nshindano, we have warned you, resign now.

PF government finally bows to IMF, requests for financial help

48

The Zambian government has finally formally requested a financing arrangement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to support their reform efforts.

In a statement from Washington, the IMF says it is currently assessing this request.

As part of this assessment, and following an invitation from the Zambian authorities, IMF’s Africa Director Mr. Abebe Aemro Selassie and Mr. Alex Segura-Ubiergo, mission chief for Zambia are visiting Lusaka during December 7-9 for high-level discussions.

This is the first time under President Edgar Lungu that Zambia has formally engaged the IMF for a bailout package after many years of procrastination.

Yesterday, President Edgar Lungu met the Director of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Africa Department, Abebe Aemro Selassie, at State House.

In a statement issued to the media in Lusaka yesterday evening, Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Isaack Chipampe, said the Head of State discussed wide-ranging issues regarding Zambia’s relations with the IMF going forward.

Mr. Chipampe disclosed that in the meeting, was Secretary to the Cabinet Simon Miti, Secretary to the Treasury, Fredson Yamba, Bank of Zambia Governor, Christopher Mvunga and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Mukuli Chikuba.

“Dr. Selassie was accompanied by IMF Mission Chief, Alex Segura,” Mr. Chipambe stated in the statement.

International law firm Dentons joins Eric Silwamba, Jalasi and Linyama Legal Practitioners

9

International law firm Dentons has entered the Zambian market after finalising its combination with local firm Eric Silwamba, Jalasi and Linyama Legal Practitioners.

The operation in Lusaka will trade as Dentons Eric Silwamba Jalasi & Linyama and practices in a range of areas including commercial, corporate, banking and finance law, dispute resolution, real estate, tax, mining, employment and intellectual property.

Dentons is the world’s largest law firm by headcount.

The firm last year announced five similar combinations in Morocco, Uganda, Angola and Mozambique.

In a statement, Dentons’ global chief executive, Elliott Portnoy, said the firm intended to be a leader on the continent, adding: “Clients want access to leading talent in the markets where they do business and we can now connect clients to opportunities in Zambia and around the globe.”

Global chairman Joe Andrew expanded on that demand, saying “our clients are confronted with constant, accelerated change”, praising the new team as “talented and enterprising”.

Africa chief executive, Noor Kapdi, explained that the acquisition was part of the firm’s strategy to spread throughout the region through “combination firms who have the proven ability to offer sophisticated, high-quality legal services and business solutions in their home markets”.

Eric Silwamba himself said: “As part of Dentons, we can now offer our clients access to leading global talent and innovative business solutions to deliver high-quality service in Zambia and around the world.”

Zambia one of the 25 countries using mobile spyware to spy on citizen’s calls, texts and location

15

A private surveillance firm that exploits mobile network vulnerabilities to spy on calls, texts and location data is doing business with at least 25 governments around the globe, including Zambia’s a report released this week has concluded.

The findings from the University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab scrutinize the work of the company Circles, which is a sister firm of the Israeli software surveillance broker NSO Group.

Human rights activists frequently criticize NSO Group for selling its equipment to repressive regimes, a charge it rejects, even as it is the subject of a lawsuit from Facebook, which alleges that attackers used NSO Group tech to spy on thousands of WhatsApp users.

The countries Citizen Lab identified as “likely” customers of Circles: Australia, Belgium, Botswana, Chile, Denmark, Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Israel, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, Serbia, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

In Zambia, the researchers said they had identified what appears to be a single Circles system in Zambia, operated by an unknown agency.

In 2019, Zambia reportedly arrested a group of bloggers who ran an opposition news site with the aid of “a cyber-surveillance unit in the offices of Zambia’s telecommunications regulator,” which “pinpointed the bloggers’ locations” and was “in constant contact with police units deployed to arrest them.”

While Circles’ solution allows governments to track phones, it is not clear if Zambia’s Circles system was used in this case.

“The authoritarian profile of some of Circles’ apparent government clients is troubling, but not surprising,” the Citizen Lab team wrote.

“Over the past decade, the explosion of the global surveillance industry has fueled a massive transfer of spy technology to problematic regimes and security services.”

Circles, which according to Citizen Lab says it only sells to nation-states, exploits weaknesses in Signalling System No. 7, a set of protocols used by telecommunications carriers to route calls.

Attackers connected to an SS7 network can send commands to a phone, which allows them to track its location, as well as to intercept voice calls and two-factor authentication texts, Citizen Lab said, although it noted SS7 is mainly used in 2G and 3G networks today.

NSO Group did not return messages seeking comment on the Citizen Lab report.

Respect the Law and Pay Back the Money, President Lungu tells Former Ministers

79

Zambia’s President Edgar Lungu has said that he expects Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers who remained in office after Parliament was dissolved in 2016 to pay back salaries and allowances following the Constitutional Court’s ruling.

In a statement released to the media by his Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Isaac Chipampe, President Lungu said that decisions of the courts of law must be respected regardless of positions taken by different parties, hence his position that the affected individuals must pay.

“We all must respect the rule of law because no one is above the law. Therefore, the ruling of the Constitutional Court must be complied with, ” the President said

The President further said that his administration will always uphold Separation of Powers in respect of the Executive, the Judiciary, and the Legislature.

This week the former Cabinet ministers , their deputies and provincial ministers were given 30 days in which to pay back over K4.2 million which they got from the government in 2016.

In this case, Ngosa Simbyakula and 63 others are supposed to pay back a total of K4, 266,664.10 as salaries and allowances for May to July 2016.

This followed the court’s judgment of August 8, 2016 which ordered the ministers to pay back to the State all the allowances and salaries they received when Parliament was dissolved.

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) and UPND general secretary Stephen Katuka had challenged the continued stay of the ministers after parliament was dissolved ahead of the 2016 general elections and the case was decided in their favour.

Meanwhile, Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has advised all ministers and ex ministers who remained in office when parliament was dissolved in 2016 to adhere to the Constitutional Court ruling and pay the monies.

TIZ Executive Director Maurice Nyambe said that following the clarification by the Constitutional Court on the amounts to be paid by ministers, it is important that they pay so that the money can be channeled to other developmental areas.

Eagles, Napsa, Forest Return To Domestic Action

0

Napsa Stars, Forest Rangers and Green Eagles return to league action on Wednesday after a grueling eight days of travel and trans-continental action.

Forest, who have just been eliminated from the CAF Champions League in the preliminary stage on their debut 2-0 on aggregate by AS Bouenguidi, jumped straight off the plane in Lusaka on Tuesday from Gabon and back into domestic action.

The 2019/2020 league runners-up are away at Kabwe Warriors on Wednesday in their first test of how they will handle the common post-continental exit hangover.

At Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka, Napsa leave the comfort zone of the CAF Confederation Cup to face Zanaco in a Lusaka derby at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

Napsa are still winless in the league, a contrast to their continental form where they recorded a 5-1 away and 4-1 home victories over Ngazi FC of Comoros.

Napsa are also second from bottom on 3 points that they gathered from the three draws recorded in their four league matches played.

But sixth placed Green Eagles have no such problems and are home in Choma against fourth position Nkwazi after beating Musongati of Burundi 2-1 in Lusaka to advance 4-3 on aggregate to the CAF Confederation Cup second phase.

Despite fourth placed Eagles missing two rounds of league games, they still find themselves in top two contention.

Eagles have 10 points; four points behind leaders Zesco United, second placed Buildcon have 12 points while Zanaco and Nkwazi above them are tied on 11 points.

Leaders Zesco Hoping to Make a Statement At Arrows

0

Zesco United visit Red Arrows at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka on Wednesday seeking to continue their quiet and consistent form to stay top of the FAZ Super Division table for a second successive game.

The eight-time champions took command of the table last Saturday following a 1-0 home win over promoted Prison Leopards.

Zesco have 14 points, two more than second placed and there Ndola neighbors Buildcon, from eight and seven games played respectively.

The Ndola side has quietly gone to the top after grinding our 1-0 wins over Prison and Kitwe United plus a 1-1 home draw against Green Buffaloes since losing 3-1 away to ex-leaders and third placed Zanaco on November 25.

Another victory could just be enough for Zesco coach Mumamba Numba to make a solid statement as he settles into the new job with four wins, two draws and two defeats since replacing George Lwandamina in the off-season in late September.

Key to Zesco’s quiet revolution has been two new faces midfielder Kelvin Mubanga, who joined from Nkana, and striker Enock Sakala Junior, who was promoted from the clubs youth ranks.

Mubanga and Sakala have played a crucial role in the last three matches with three and two goals respectively and will be the men to watch at Nkoloma.

Zesco also have the added advantage of no continental pressure this season as they target to extend their four-match unbeaten run against Arrows dating back to 2018.

Ironically, Zesco also await Kenya striker Jesse Were to break his 2020/2021 drought after scoring four goals in last two wins and two draws against Arrows.

Meanwhile, the pressure is on Arrows who have lost their last two home games to Nkwazi (2-1) and Power Dynamos (1-0).

Arrows are currently slumped at number eleven and six points behind Zesco.

Stuttering Nkana In The Dock At Indeni

0

Stuttering defending FAZ Super Division champions Nkana return to league action on Wednesday when they visit promoted Indeni in Ndola following their fortunate CAF Champions League second round qualification.

Nkana scrapped through to the pre-group stage of the CAF Champions League following a 1-0 aggregate win over Bantu FC of Lesotho.

It wasn’t pleasing to the eye, especially the last leg in Kitwe that ended 0-0, in what was probably Nkana’s worst display in continental history and a match Bantu were guilty of poor finishing and failed to break their host’s unbeaten home continental record at Wusakile.

That display by led to the subsequent suspension of Nkana coach Manfred Chabinga just hours after the final whistle.

Chabinga’s assistants Kaunda Simonda and Joseph Musonda will be in interim charge.

The duo must now steer Nkana out of the top four bracket of the relegation zone where the champions sit on 5 points from as many games played and with just one league victory.

But it is uncertain whether injured striker Idris Mbombo who has played through the pain barrier will be forced to start at number eight club Indeni.

The plan prior to Chabinga’s departure was to rest the prolific striker for at least two games for him to fully heal from an injury that has troubled him since late November.

But Nkana still have striker Ronald Kampamba and midfielder Harrison Chisala available for lead their attack in case Mbombo is rested.

Nkana will also welcome back defensive midfielder Misheck Chaila who missed the two CAF Champions League date after the club failed to beat the registration deadline.
Chaila’s return will be a boost after Nkana looked out of depth in midfield through the inexperienced Stephen Chulu.

Meanwhile, Nkana desperately need to leave Ndola without a defeat ahead of Sunday’s home date against tricky Green Eagles.

But it will be an uphill battle at Indeni as the hosts are unbeaten so far this season in Ndola with two successive wins including 1-0 victory against Nkana’s convincing archrivals Power Dynamos.

That win over Power, and the one against Prison Leopards by the same margin, came after Indeni marked their return with a 0-0 home draw against Green Buffaloes.

Zambians Should not be Hoodwinked by HH’s Signing of A Social Contract-PF

41

PF Eastern province chairman Andrew Lubusa says youths across the country should not be hoodwinked by the UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema’s signing of the social contract ahead of next year’s general elections.

In a telephone interview with Smart Eagles, Mr.Lubusha said it is very difficult to trust Mr.Hichilema because despite accumulating so much wealth he has failed to come up with any tangible youth empowerment program using his own money.

He said President Edgar Lungu has shown an unwavering commitment to ensure that youths across the country are empowered through various schemes.

He said the PF and President Lungu have done enough to uplift the living standards of the people.

“Mr.Hichilema has not done any charitable work which he can point at despite accumulating so much wealth. He is even failing to take care of his own workers so it is very difficult to trust that such a person can even honor a simple youth social contract,” Mr. Lubusha said.

Mr.Lubusha adds that “Youths should rally behind President Edgar Lungu and the PF because they have seen the good things he is doing for the country despite the harsh global economic conditions.”

And Mr. Lubusha said it is wishful thinking for the opposition to claim that they have made inroads in Eastern province because all their structures are non-existent.

” People have confidence in the leadership of PF and President Lungu and we are increasing the membership. We are stronger than we were and the opposition is getting weaker and we hope to increase the margins come next year,” Mr.Lubusha said.

Meanwhile, Mr.Lubusha said the ruling party in the Eastern province is happy with the turnout of people registering as voters.

“I am happy that people here are responding well as regards to the voter registration and the fact that people are able to endure long hours on the queue gives us hope that about 95 percent of the people will register as voters here in Eastern province and those are sure votes for President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, ” He adds.
