PF cadres accused of destroying a makeshift stand of a Woman displaying UPND Regalia

Suspected ruling Patriotic Front(PF) cadres have been accused of ransacking and destroying a makeshift stand of Mercy Chalwe, the woman famed for publicly displaying United Party for National Development (UPND) chitenge material on her Woodlands Makeshift stand

According to UPND, the incident happened yesterday afternoon when allegedly 8 Rosa buses laden with ruling PF cadres wielding machetes and other offensive weapons invaded and ransacked her makeshift stand, making it the second time PF cadres have destroyed her merchandise and erased her makeshift stand.

According to reports, Ms Chalwe accused PF Area Member of Parliament(MP) Margaret Mwanakatwe for ordering the demolishing of her stand, which is located in Lubwa ward of Woodlands Constituency after various earlier attempts to demolish her stand failed to make her stop displaying UPND regalia on her stand.

Ms Chalwe, who said that she learnt about her attack by the PF from the posts shared on social media, alleged that Ms Mwanakatwe ordered the PF Lubwa ward youth chairperson to sort her out after UPND leader, Hakainde Hichilema paid her a visit, the previous day, adding that she is living in constant fear of her life, saying that there has been numerous death threats from known senior PF officials.

And asked on why the PF has continually been threatening to kill her, Ms Chalwe stated that the ruling party are not happy that she continues to display UPND regalia on her makeshift stand especially the one bearing the portrait of Mr Hichilema.

“They are wearing ECL 2021,regalia but want us to stop wearing our party regalia with a portrait of our leader HH a man we are all proud of because of his dignity

UPND President Hakainde Hichilema yesterday paid a courtesy call at her stand where she is selling vegetables to feed her family.

Jacob Banda Laments Zesco’s CAF Qualification Flop

0

Captain Jacob Banda is lamenting Zesco United’s failure to qualify for CAF club competitions after finishing fifth in the 2019/20 FAZ Super Division campaign.

Defending champions Zesco on Thursday made their worst-ever finish since 2012 at number five on 47 points and missed out on continental football for the first time since 2013.

Zesco needed a win against Red Arrows at home on Thursday to qualify for continental football but only managed to force a 1-1 draw after coming from behind.

“It is a very very disappointment thing as a team and as an individual. It is my second time not to play CAF since I joined Zesco United,” said goalkeeper Banda.

“But that is how football is; we have to look forward to next season and fight harder to play continental football. We have disappointed the fans for not bringing continental football at Levy Mwanawasa this season. I promise the fans that that we will do better next season,” he said.

Banda also commented on the impact of Covid-19 on the league campaign.

“We have been disturbed by this decision but this issue of Covid-19 is beyond FAZ’s control,” he said.

The 18-team league is ending prematurely at Week 27.

No Retirement Decision Yet From Chamanga

0

Ex-Chipolopolo striker James Chamanga is uncertain about his future on the pitch after playing for Red Arrows in the 2019/20 FAZ Super Division season.

Prior to the delayed conclusion of the chaotic season on Sunday, Chamanga, 40, is leading the league scorers’ chart with 16 goals.

In an interview in Ndola after Arrows’ 1-1 draw at Zesco United on Thursday, Chamanga said he is consulting his family before deciding whether to continue playing next season.

“First of all, I thank God for everything. Coming back to the league after a long time and having such a wonderful gift for me it is a blessing,” he said.

“I thank Red Arrows for supporting me and for welcoming me well to the club. People had a lot of doubts about me coming back to the league and looking at my age they talked a lot,” said Chamanga, the 2012 Africa Cup winner.

“My future is not yet decided, I need to discuss with my family and see the way forward whether they will support me again. It is very important for me to know what my family feels and how they think,” Chamanga said.

“I can’t predict the years I can play. Of course I have got the strength to go on for a long time but like have been repeating I don’t want to be celebrated alone. I want to impact on the young ones,” he said.

Chamanga also repeated that he doesn’t have ambitions to play for Zambia again.

“I have kept my stance on that one. Like I said we need to build the young ones. You know that if I play this CHAN (African Nations Championship) I will block opportunities for the young ones. I have done my part already, I didn’t go to the World Cup is unfortunate but I have won the Africa Cup so I have nothing to prove anymore in terms of national team football,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chamanga is waiting until Sunday to know if he will be the golden boot winner on the day Rodger Kola, who is three goals behind him, will lead Zanaco against Forest Rangers in the delayed match in Ndola.

Protect your votes from UPND power hungry hyenas

44

By Sikaile C Sikaile

The year 2021 will be a do or die for Zambia. This is a year that will determine what type of a nation Zambia will be in the next fifty years to come.

We all have a huge responsibility as citizens of this country. It is either we let go of our country and all its resources by allowing the UPND government of thieves and oppressors come in with destruction.

It is in black and white that should the people of Zambia allow HH and UPND government or anyone affiliated to UPND to lead this country in 2021 by any means, then, that will mark the end of Zambia.

Next years elections are not only about voting but vote protection as well. Everyone should remain alert, and protect their votes from UPND power hungry hyenas.

To all the youths, I have seen a lot of youth movements in the last few months emerging. However, I have a concern about these youth movements stance of none partisan.

My dear fellow disgruntled youths, you can’t claim to be neutral, No! Be open and support PF.

So, what I want to encourage youth movements is that you know what is good for Zambia therefore, it is not a crime if you stand up and support President Edgar Lungu and not the opposition leaders like Hakainde Hichilema, Nevers Mumba, Chishimba Kambwili, Saviour Chishimba, Charles Milupi and many others. This also applies to various stakeholders such as civil society organizations, NGO’s, the church and many others.

My message to HH, Kambwili, Nevers Mumba, Mmembe, Milupi, Kasanda, Saviour Chishimba, Sean Tembo and many other opposition leaders is that just give up, you will not make it. All PF needs is the support of all of us the majority Zambians, who this wicked UPND regime will be mistreating if we make a mistake. Work as a team as ruling party leaders, put your personal interest aside and think about the nation first by supporting one candidate in Edgar Lungu so that we voters can rightly prepare our minds for a landslide victory against the opposition.

We can’t afford even for a day for that other one, HH can be a disgrace to Presidency who can kill and sit on our constitution without shame just to come and prolong his stay in office in case this HH wins.

Youths should not be scared to be affiliated to those who mean well like Edgar Lungu. Even in church, the pastor will tell you to choose either God or the devil, there is nothing like the pastor, I’m going to be neutral with my Christian life, half God and half devil, never at all. Choose Lungu today.

Every citizen should pick their battle rightly and stop hiding in none partisan cowardice approach.

Issuance of National Registration Cards is not a political undertaking, Kampyongo warns Stakeholders

HOME Affairs Minister Hon Stephen Kampyongo has insisted that the Mobile Issuance of National Registration Cards (NRCs) is not a political undertaking.

Speaking at a media briefing held in Lusaka yesterday, Hon Kampyongo said that the process is a legal requirement according to the National Registration Act Cap 126 of the laws of Zambia that mandates the Ministry of Home Affairs through the Department of National Registration, Passports and Citizenship to Register and issue NRCs to all eligible persons.

Hon Kampyongo says the Opposition UPND and all those who are self appointed Monitors of the NRC exercise are doing so at their own peril as the police will not hesitate to effect arrests on anyone disturbilising the process.

He says it is very unfortunate that some thugs stormed one of the Centres where officers are conducting the exercise to cause unnecessary commotion.

“With regards to those who want to break the law in the name of monitoring an exercise they are not mandated to, I can only promise them one thing and that is to say that the police will not hesitate to deal with them accordingly”Hon Kampyongo said.

Hon Kampyongo says contrary to some assertions, the Ministry is not working in Isolation during this exercise but is collaborating with provincial and district administrations in the five provinces who in turn are monitoring the process.

“I wish to emphasize that, in as much as citizens have every right to ensure accountability in the delivery of Government services, including the issuance of National Registration Cards, the law does not allow disruption of government services “ Hon Kampyongo says.

And Hon Kampyongo has since implored the Police Officers on the ground to ensure law and order is maintained and no person regardless of political affiliation should be allowed to disrupt the registration process.

Transparency International Zambia to monitor the prudent management of donations for COVID-19

2

Transparency International Zambia has commenced the implementation of a short-term project that seeks to monitor the prudent management of donations for COVID-19 in order to promote transparency, accountability and integrity in their management.

The project, whose implementation commenced in July 2020 is funded by USAID through the National Democratic Institute, Zambia Political Participation and Leadership program, and has the ultimate goal of ensuring that the COVID-19 emergency response in Zambia is anchored on principles of transparency, accountability and integrity at all levels.

TIZ Executive Director Maurice Nyambe says in implementing this project, his Organisation is focusing both on the donations that have been made public through the media, but is also engaging the Ministry of Health for any additional donations that may have been made.

“Thus far, we have received good cooperation from the Ministry and our engagement with them concerning the project has been cordial and underpinned by a mutual desire to ensure that all donations made towards the COVID-19 response are managed prudently”, he said.

Mr Nyambe has commended that Ministry for the open-door policy they have exhibited so far as it is cardinal to the successful implementation of the project.

“We believe that the Ministry’s openness thus far shows that civil society and government entities can collaborate around common causes such as what our project seeks to achieve. Our hope is that the Ministry of Health will continue to exhibit this openness even when it comes to other matters that are of public interest”, added Mr Nyambe.

Speaking at a media briefing today, Mr Nyambe said TIZ is aware that the Ministry’s task in leading the COVID-19 response is not an easy one, but are very optimistic that with support coming from various stakeholders, the fight against COVID-19 in Zambia will be won.

“Our clarion call goes to the Zambian people to take the lead on an individual level and supplement government’s efforts in the fight against COVID-19. In the same vein, we also wish to implore senior government officials to adhere to the same prevention measures that have been put in place”, he said.

Mr Nyambe said TIZ is concerned that there has recently been a number of cases where government officials have flouted the regulations related to mass gatherings, and we call on them to put a stop to that.

He said Zambians should be on the lookout and report any abuse of the COVID-19 donations because they are meant to save lives and not selfish interests.

Mr Nyambe said it is a well-known fact that abusing resources meant to fight the pandemic reduces the chances of us winning the fight against COVID-19, and this is why we insist that it is the duty of every well-meaning Zambian to report the abuse of these funds where such abuse is observed.

FAZ Says Sorry For League Coronation Confusion

3

FAZ has said sorry for halting Nkana’s coronation as league champions on Thursday in Kitwe after Forest Rangers successful appeal against the awarding of points to Zanaco in their unplayed rescheduled Week 23 game.

Nkana were minutes from being crowned 2019/2020 FAZ Super Division champions on August 6 at Arthur Davies Stadium where nearest contenders, Napsa Stars, failed to usurp them from top-spot following a 1-0 away loss to coincidently Forest on the last day of the season.

FAZ general secretary Adrian Kashala said the season will end this weekend after the final outcome of the game and thereafter Football House is set to host Super Division club bosses next Tuesday to plot for next season.

“And we also want to first of all apologize and take responsibility for the decision that was made,”Kashala said.

“We are not apologizing because it was a wrong decision but maybe because of the timing, the inconvenience this may have caused to other stakeholders.

“But we also appreciate that these bodies do enjoy their independence.”

Forest will now host Zanaco on August 9 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola after failing to play them on July 18 reportedly after the club suffered 28 Covid-19 cases that they only announced less than four hours before kickoff at the same venue.

Nkana have 50 points while Forest has 49 points and victory in Sunday’s game against Zanaco will see instead crowned as champions.

Zambian in Sweden sentenced to 14 years for sleeping with his own daughters

61

45 year old Sraj Umar Banda from Zambia was hailed as a fantastic multicultural venture by the state-owned mining company LKAB – but at the same time he committed hundreds of systematic abuses of his daughters which consisted of oral, vaginal and anal rapes that began when the daughters were eleven and twelve years old.

One of the daughters was forced to have two abortions after she became pregnant.

Banda has now been sentenced to a maximum of 14 years in prison.

The extremely serious and extensive crimes were discovered at the beginning of the year when one of the girls, now in her late teens, started telling friends and then the social services about the abuse she and her sister had been subjected to for several years.

The perpetrator in question is their father, the 45-year-old immigrant Sraj Umar Banda who moved to Sweden from Zambia because he was granted state money to do a doctorate in rock mechanics at Luleå University of Technology.

He then came to work for the state mining company LKAB in Svappavaara, where he was hailed as a fantastic multicultural venture.

But even when he was arrested, he could admit in the first interrogations that he had raped the two sisters since they were eleven and twelve years old and that there were so many rapes that he could not even state a clear number himself.

“I’m not here to save my own skin, but I admit the damage I caused,” he said in the first police interrogation.

Now the incestuous child rapist has been sentenced to the highest possible punishment for the systematic rapes of his own daughters.

Hundreds of brutal rapes – one of the girls was forced into two abortions.

The abuse lasted between 2013 and until this spring.

For one girl, it is from the time she was 11 until she was 14 years old and according to Banda herself has touched “almost 100 intercourses”.

The other girl was exposed when she was twelve years old and several years ahead and, according to Banda, was about “well over 100 intercourses”.

Estimates that according to the girls themselves are the tip of the iceberg of rapes that have occurred several times a week.

According to one of the girls, she remembered how the first rape took place:

“He was naked and I was scared, he closed the door and closed it again so no one would see. I tried to stop him, I shouted at him, kind of stop. I knew what [he] was going to do. He took Vaseline on my vagina and on his penis. It hurt and blood came.”

But Banda not only contented herself with raping one of the girls but also started raping her sister.

Sometimes he forced himself on both of them at the same time as they lay next to each other in one of the beds in the home.

He also took pictures and filmed his rapes and assaults – materials that became important evidence in the trial.

COVID -19 Lockdown : doctors perspective

4

Medical experts were asked if it is time to ease the lockdown.

Allergists were in favor of scratching it, but Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but Neurologists thought the government had a lot of nerve.

Obstetricians felt certain everyone was laboring under a misconception, while Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted.

Many Pathologists yelled, “Over my dead body!” while Pediatricians said, “Oh, grow up!”

Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while Radiologists could see right through it.

Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing and pharmacists claimed it would be a bitter pill to swallow.

Plastic Surgeons opined that this proposal would “put a whole new face on the matter.

“Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea.

Anaesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and those lofty Cardiologists didn’t have the heart to say no.

In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the assholes.

Minister gives 7 days to Disaster Management Committee to Distribute relief food

10

Minister in the Office of the Vice President Olipa Phiri has given the District Disaster Management Committee in Kasama a seven day ultimatum to complete the distribution of relief food to affected areas and not keeping the food in the warehouse.

Speaking when she paid an impromptu visit to the Kasama warehouse, Mrs Phiri said it is unfortunate that relief food was being kept in the warehouse, while people are going without food.

Mrs Phiri said Kasama is one of the places that were badly hit by floods and that it is government’s responsibility to feed all the affected people.

She said her office has continued to receive complaints about the delays in the distribution of the relief food, prompting her to check on the situation.

Mrs Phiri said government will not take kindly officers who will be frustrating government efforts by delaying to take the food to the affected people.

She called on the District Commissioner, who is the Chair of the committee to make sure the food is distributed before end of next week.

Mrs Phiri further said that her office has sent trucks to the Province to help with the transportation of the mealie meal to areas that may not be easily accessed.

And Kasama District Commissioner Kelly Kashiwa said the committee commenced the distribution of the remaining mealie meal on Monday and will continue doing so until all the affected areas are reached.

Mr Kashiwa attributed the delays in the distribution process to poor road network which does not allow certain vehicles to pass.

He said with the coming of Zambia Army trucks, the exercise will be completed in time.

Mr Kashiwa however told the Minister that despite the delays, most of the critically hit areas were already serviced.
