Agriculture Minister Michael Katambo says his Ministry is closely monitoring maize stock levels to ensure that the country has sufficient grain to last us until the next harvest.

Mr. Katambo said his Ministry is not allowing the export of maize and maize products and other wings of government are working with the ministry to ensure that all available stocks remain in the country.

He said smuggling is a serious threat to national food security as it has the potential of creating maize shortages and higher mealie meal prices in the country.

And Mr. Katambo said in a statement that based on the analysis conducted by the ministry, some business houses have been taking advantage of the situation and are adding an abnormal mark upon the wholesale price or rather than the order price of mealie meal.

He says some have been adding between K3 to K4 per 25 kg bag of mealie meal, whereas others are adding more than K50 per 25 kg bag of mealie meal.

Mr. Katambo said this is the major challenge that government is currently addressing and his Ministry has been engaging millers, and from the discussions, millers have agreed to meet this week and strategize on how they can bring the wholesale price of mealie meal closer to consumers.

Meanwhile, Mr Katambo says his ministry has done an analysis that shows that offloading maize by FRA to millers does not benefit consumers.

He said FRA needs to offload huge quantities of maize to have an impact on mealie meal prices a situation that is not sustainable and will deplete the much needed strategic reserves.

Mr Katambo said the government is aware that there are some market players and some sections of society who have caught onto the habit of requesting for supplies from FRA strategic reserves under the pretext that the stocks will reduce mealie meal prices for consumers.

He, however, said despite accessing strategic reserves cheaply, it has not translated into low mealie meal prices.

Mr Katambo said the FRA has very limited stocks, which need to be offloaded prudently and in anticipation of any supply challenges that may arise after February 2020.

He has indicated that the lasting solution to high mealie meal prices is to increase maize production and the ministry is working closely with maize industry stakeholders to ensure they begin to have bumper harvests starting from 2020 and beyond as directed by President Edgar Lungu.

And on the Farmer Input Support Programme, Mr Katambo said the distribution of inputs commenced way before the 1st of September, 2019 and is hopeful to complete this exercise within the month of September.

He said this is a remarkable achievement and has encouraged officers involved to continue working hard.

President Edgar Lungu urges Africa Leaders to Emulate Robert Mugabe

President Edgar Lungu has urged African leaders to emulate former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe who was fearless in protecting the integrity of his country.

The Head of State said the current generation of leaders has a lot to learn from the late Mr. Mugabe and Zambia’s first Republican President Dr. Kaunda who was fearless in speaking the truth.

He said Leaders don’t need to be afraid of anyone including the West in speaking the truth which the late President Mugabe stood for.

President Lungu said Mr. Mugabe is a man most African leaders looked to in Africa as he was a voice of the continent at various forums including at the AU and UN.

Meanwhile, Former President Robert Mugabe’s remains are due to be returned to Zimbabwe on Wednesday and the government has confirmed that his funeral will take place over two days this coming weekend.

Mr. Mugabe died, aged 95, in a hospital in Singapore last week.

But now there seems to be some disagreement between the family and the government over where the man who led Zimbabwe for 37 years, from 1980 to 2017, should be laid to rest.

Some of his relatives want him to be buried in his rural homestead in the village of Kutama in Mashonaland West province, 80km (about 50 miles) west of the capital, Harare.

Most of Zimbabwe’s national heroes – those who fought against the white-minority rule – are buried at the Heroes’ Acre shrine just outside Harare.

Inside the gates of Mr. Mugabe’s rural home, now manned by just one security guard, a dozen mourners gathered on Sunday to pay their respects.

BBC reports that they sat in small groups, speaking in hushed voices.

There is need to build a proper foundation if Zambia is to have a nuclear power plant-Msiska

Zambia Atomic Energy Agency (ZAMATOM) Director General Roland Msiska

Zambia Atomic Energy Agency (ZAMATOM) Director-General Dr. Rowland Msiska has said there is need to build a proper foundation if Zambia is to have a nuclear power plant and that the Center for Nuclear Science and Technology is important for the transformation of Zambia through energy generation.

Giving a presentation during the Patriotic Front (PF) Interactive Forum in Lusaka on Sunday under the topic ‘Is nuclear power the answer to reducing load shedding – the case for Zambia, Dr. Msiska said the center will help in diversifying the energy sector.

“In 2015/16 Zambia experienced low power production due to prolonged drought. This caused a reduction of approximately 40% of the economic growth rate. In order to address the above challenge, His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu announced on 18th September 2015, 16th September 2016 that his administration during its term in office would pursue nuclear energy as part of the diversified sustainable energy mix to power Zambia’s economy. The2018/19 looks to be a repeat of 2015/16,” he said.

Dr. Msiska said the decision to embrace nuclear energy will help the country in achieving the Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP) such as Economic Diversification and Job Creation; Industry and Economic Growth and Enhancing Human Development.

Highlighting the Economic Benefits of nuclear energy –US Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Case Study, Dr. Msiska said each year, the average 1,000 megawatt (MW) nuclear plant generates approximately US$470 million in electricity sales and revenue.

On the environmental impact, Dr. Msiska stated that unlike oil, coal or natural gas, nuclear energy is one of the lowest carbon footprint technologies across the world.

He indicated that nuclear power has very low lifetime greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions which makes the technology a potent climate change mitigation option.

Dr. Msiska also observed the need for the PF Secretariat and other stakeholders to promote investment in alternative energy sources such as thermos electricity generation from coal and nuclear reactors.

He said there was a need to facilitate the passing of the Comprehensive Nuclear Bill in Parliament.

“There is a need to encourage PF Members of Parliament to support Government in a meeting of International Atomic Energy Agency standards through ratifications of relevant treaties, conventions, protocols, and agreements. Encourage PF Members of Parliament to support Government in domesticating of the same through amendments of existing laws (ZEMA, NCC, EIZ Act). Encourage PF Members of Parliament to assure his constituents of the Government’s commitment to safety and security. Communicate to all relevant Party structures, Chiefs and all key stakeholders on the importance of the implementation of the nuclear program,” he said.

On the impact of the effects of the El-Nino on the 2015/2016 Fiscal Performance, the ZAMATOM Director-General said unbudgeted US$39,286,245.70 was spent on emergency power imports by the Treasury in 2015.

He further stated that this caused adverse effects on the Fiscal performance in 2015 as the El-Nino effect was not anticipated when drawing the 2015 budget.

Meanwhile, Dr. Msiska emphasized that the setting up of a nuclear center and plant is a non-political issue as it is aimed at benefiting the future of the country.

Riot Police patrol Chawama to stop HH from touring the township

Police in riot gear on Sunday patrolled the streets of Chawama Township in Lusaka in an effort to block opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema who was due to visit the area.

Mr Hichilema had announced that he was going to visit Chawama on Sunday to donate Genset at Chawama Clinic to mitigate the long hours of load shedding.

He was also scheduled to visit Misisi and Kuku compounds and later conclude his tour by interacting with locals in Jack Compound where loading shedding is reported to be at 12 hours per day.

But Sunday morning saw the heavy presence of police from Lime road to John Howard compound.

Some officers spoken to said they were merely carrying out their orders to block Mr. Hichilema and kick him out of Chawama.

And Mr. Hichilema says he sympathizes with the police officers.

“We understand there was a heavy police presence in the streets of Chawama constituency today. All this we are informed was in an effort to stop us from doing some charity work and blocking us from a planned tour of Chawama,” Mr. Hichilema wrote on Facebook.

He said the heavy presence of police officers in Chawama yesterday should be a daily routine to protect our citizens, as opposed to blocking one individual whose right of movement is guaranteed by the constitution.

“We fully sympathize with police officers for being abused in such a manner. When citizens notify the police to conduct a peaceful protest, hold a rally or any public event, the usual response is that there is not enough manpower. But here we are with the heavy police presence in the streets of Chawama mobilized at short notice for only one individual,” he said.

“As UPND when we take over the reins of power in 2021 from day one, we shall undertake to restore the rule of law and ensure all citizens regardless of political affiliation, enjoy all fundamental freedoms and basic rights as enshrined in our constitution. To the police, please remain there and other places to protect property and life in Chawama.”

Pay Teachers who Marked the 2018 Grade 9 and 12 Exams Immediately, Demands HH

27
Hakainde Hichilema

United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichileam has urged the ruling patriotic Front (PF) Government to be humane for once and stop playing games with teachers who marked the 2018 Grade 9 and 12 examination papers by paying them their dues immediately.

In a statement released to the media, the UPND leader said that he was further saddened to learn that the 2019 July GCE exams remain unmarked because the PF has no money to feed teachers who are supposed to mark these papers.

Below is the full statement

PF MUST PAY TEACHERS THAT MARKED 2018 GRADE 9 AND 12 EXAMS.

We continue receiving reports of PF maladministration and incompetence in most government departments but nothing is more disturbing and scandalous than the information that our teachers who marked the 2018 Grade 9 and 12 final examinations have not been paid their dues, almost a year after they diligently carried out their duties.

We are further saddened to learn that the 2019 July GCE exams remain unmarked because the PF has no money to feed teachers who are supposed to mark these papers.

Any serious Government will treat the Education sector as a priority and critical area alongside Agriculture and Health, but because of corruption, incompetence, lack of proper planning and misplaced preferences, the PF hanker for globetrotting with large delegations in luxury jets, as more important than paying teachers, buying medical drugs for our people in hospitals and boosting agriculture in order to bring down prices of food especially mealie meal.

Civil servants in government ministries are working under very difficult circumstances because resources meant to help them run their departments smoothly are being diverted to reward PF politicians with huge traveling allowances for expensive and unnecessary foreign trips, and causing by-elections.

We urge the PF to be humane for once and stop playing games with our teachers who marked the 2018 Grade 9 and 12 examination papers by paying them their dues immediately. They will need them to mark the 2019 exams soon.

I’ll not respond to insults from my political opponent-President Lungu

President Edgar Lungu has said that he will not respond to insults from his political opponents, but that his focus would be on national leadership, adding that his government will continue to support the church in different ways to enable it to provide spiritual guidance and be a moral campus to the nation.

Addressing parishioners at St Andrew’s Apostle Parish in Rufunsa District today, the President said that one of the ways the government is helping support the church is through the establishment of the Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs which is helping coordinate the church in the country.

President Lungu called on Christians to support the work of the church so that it can help meet the physical needs of the communities aside from spiritual guidance.

The president also urged the church in the country to come up with income-generating ventures to support its operations, help improve the welfare of the communities and reduce dependence on funds from foreign missionaries.

President Lungu urged the church to continue promoting social cohesion to ensure there is peace, unity, and love to enable co-existence stating that no tribe or political affiliation should divide the country.

And Parish Priest Christopher Nkole called on the government to develop regulations that will encourage decency in dressing and beer drinking in the district.

Fr Nkole also called on the government to set up an institution that will support the elderly in the district to enable them to get basic needs.

President Lungu later met the traditional leaders from Rufunsa district among them Chief Bunda Bunda the 10th, Chieftainess Shikabeta, and Chieftainess Mpanshya.

The President’s sentiments on insults were echoed by Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Dora Siliya who called for civility among political players in Zambia.

Ms. Siliya said that the politics of insults and hate should not be encouraged because Zambia is a Christian nation, adding that politicians seeking to be voted into office should instead endeavor to convince the electorate by explaining what development they intend to bring if given the mandate.

Ms. Siliya, who is also Petauke Member of Parliament, was speaking at Saint Thomas Anglican Church in Petauke District during the ordination of Bernard Phiri and Emmanuel Ngoma to diaconate.

And Anglican Diocese of Eastern Zambia Bishop William Muchombo appealed to politicians to respect the President. Bishop Muchombo said insulting the head of state does NOT win the confidence of the people.

He also condemned the prevailing xenophobic attacks that have occurred in South Africa. The clergyman said such acts are inhumane hence should be condemned.

Zanaco collected their first league win of the 2019/20 season on Sunday following a 2-0 home victory over Green Eagles at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

Today’s win came a week after Zanaco began the season on August 31 with a 1-0 away defeat against defending FAZ Super Division champions Zesco United in a Week One Fixture played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Chishimba Kambwili – The reincarnation of a leopard

35
Chief Government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili
Former Chief Government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili

By Chimwemwe Mwanza

The narrative in our politics has been fluid like a pendulum on steroids. Understandably so, Zambia has such an unusual talent of swinging from one crisis to another; from battling to identifying an owner of 48 houses that sprang from nowhere, to experiencing a prolonged load shedding streak and now the sky-rocketing price of our only staple commodity, mealie meal. It’s all becoming too familiar a pattern.

Amidst all this muddle, a clumsy opposition leader emerges from nowhere and purportedly throws epithets at the President. This mud – throwing incident was deemed grave enough to deflect from the core issues affecting the country. In the ensuing diversion, a warrant of arrest is hastily effected against the perpetrator, subsequently leading to his incarceration at the hands of the police. This pretty much surmises a charade that was last week.

Make no mistake, politicians are masters of deception, precisely why confusion is their best friend. Like a bolt from the blue, nobody saw this one coming. But here we are, suddenly saddled with a Chishimba Kambwili problem created by this politician’s lack of civility and use of uncouth language.

To begin with, never kick a man when he is down and screaming for help, so goes a refrain. However, Kambwili’s case is a curious one. At this point, he will do very well to heed a warning by former US President, Woodrow Wilson – who during a moment of reckoning invoked this famous quote: “If a dog will not come to you after having looked you in the face, you should go home and examine your conscience.”

Ideally, this should be his moment of reflection on his conscience especially in the wake of the bizarre de-registration of his party and the single night’s incarceration which he recently experienced at the hands of police. As a matter of caution, he will soon find out that, it is one thing to stand defiant against a brutal regime and another to be a pariah of the ruling PF government. If he dare argue, he should ask GBM?

Yet, Kambwili is not your average politician, some might argue. A great orator with an acerbic tongue that often speaks with an unmatched bravado, this political animal has been a consummate shape-shifter on the Zambian political landscape. He is not only cut from the PF cloth but his entire political genealogy is firmly rooted in the governing party. Ever fearless, his cunning ability to spot opportunity, led him to become one of the first opposition politicians on the Copperbelt to jump on the PF bandwagon.

The businessman turned politician built his reputation by railing against corruption. Together with his contemporaries such Mukanga Yamfwa and Anthony Mumba among others, they resolutely stepped up to address challenges of their time – which by then focused largely on removing MMD from power. And this, they achieved with greater efficiency – dispatching MMD to near oblivion.

How ironic that the fall from his perch was precipitated by an investigation into alleged corrupt activities instituted by his own government. Not surprising that he was quick to dismiss the alleged malfeasance. Do we believe him? It’s only politicians of his ilk that can speak with a forked tongue and lie eloquently while holding a straight face.
Thus, it’s not a stretch that he is partly responsible for the creation of this repressive and intolerant political environment that is allergic to truth and objectivity. Until recently, he was government’s hatchet man threatening the media fraternity with reprisals for reporting negatively on government. His mischaracterisation of the media as an adversary, largely prompted him to make such irresponsible threats. In fact, the annihilation of critical independent media from our discourse counts as his single biggest achievement of his tenure as Information and Broadcasting Minister.

Now, contrary to his posture, Kambwili did not resign from PF out of his own volition but was rather kicked out of the party. If it were up to him, he would still be a parliamentarian, representing Roan constituency under the PF. So, by threatening to increase his volume in his crusade against corruption and other ills, he wants to make us believe that duplicity is a norm that should be accepted in politics? This is rich especially coming from a paragon of questionable virtues.
Hence, his transformation from the biblical Saul – who saw light on his way to persecute Christians in Damascus – to Paul the great apostle of the word, should be treated with great circumspect otherwise we risk the possibility of creating a political martyr out of a rogue.

Whatever the perceived persecution by government, Kambwili’s circumstances should best serve as an apt reminder of what could easily become of those that are drunk with and abuse power. In short, this man has just fallen on his sword. Kwasu kwa kapatamoyo, tikuti chawona munzako, mumawa chili pali iwe.

Mwanza is an avid reader of political history and philosophy. He loves Nshima with game meat. The only thing he supports is Liverpool Football club.

PF reacts to HH’s allegations that the Party is xenophobic towards other tribes

40
HH speaking during a radio programme on SUN FM
HH speaking during a radio programme on SUN FM

The Ruling Patriotic Front Member of the Central Committee and MCC Provincial Chairman North Western Province Jackson Kungo has said that United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema sees everything with tribal lenses.

In a statement released to the Mr Kungu accused Mr Hichilema of leading a party that only gives opportunities to Tongas.

Below is the full statement

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HICHILEMA IS VERY INSENSITIVE TO THE XENOPHOBIA IN SOUTH AFRICA BECAUSE HE SEES EVERYTHING THROUGH TRIBAL LENSES

It is extremely shocking that Hakainde Hichilema has referred to political parties in Zambia as “tribes” and “ethnic groups” as reported in News Diggers of 5 Sep 2019 where he is quoted as having wildly alleged that “PF are xenophobic towards other tribes”. What “tribe” is PF and what “tribe” is UPND?

What is equally disturbing is that HH has taken issue with the Zambian Government for condemning the on-going xenophobia and black-on-black violence in South Africa. Hichilema clearly lacks wisdom.

Why does he choose to see everything through tribal lenses? It is because UPND has an exclusive quota system that says only a particular tribe can rule UPND so he thinks every other political party is tribally inclined like his.

At the time of the death of Mazoka, Hichilema was an unknown entity and he was not in any structure of UPND and definitely nowhere in the hierarchy of UPND, but ended up as leader of UPND because of the “Only a Tonga Must rule UPND” covenant within the party.

PF, on the other hand, gives every Zambian from every tribe an opportunity to aspire and contest for any position. After the death of the founding father late President Michael Sata – a Northerner (MHSRIP), Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu from Eastern Province contested intra-party elections and won.

Added to this, such as the national character of PF that the Chairman is from Northern Province, while the Vice President is from Western Province, and the Chairperson for women is from North-western and the Provincial Chairman overseeing Lusaka hails from Southern Province.

Hichilema’s reference to political parties as “tribes” should not come as a surprise, because that’s what tribalist like him do. They see politics and everything else through tribal lenses and they encourage bloc voting along the same tribal lines.

HH is just wrong for Zambia on so many levels!

He boasts about being knowledgeable, but he lacks wisdom.

We have a crisis on our hands and he is still drunk with the obsession to be President of Zambia at all costs!

Our brothers and sisters are dying in South Africa but Hichilema chooses to play politics. Why can’t he put politics aside and talk about sensible things? Why is he so cold and insensitive?

Why is everything desperately tribal and political for him? Why does he behave like a bloodthirsty hound sniffing around for opportunities to gain political mileage even in the face of the tragic black-on-black bloodbath in South Africa?

In the words of A.J Chai:

_“desperate people lose the thing that makes them human beings. They lose their heart. Anger and hate fill them so that they act like animals.”_

Where is the humanity in HH? Does he have any “Ubuntu”? Isnt it so ironic that he is so desperate to be understood that he forgets to be understanding?

Why is UPND and HH himself not taking a stand and why is he not condemning Xenophobia in South Africa? Could his associates be behind it?

How can a right-thinking person denounce the government for condemning xenophobia against Africans and Zambians of all tribes in South Africa?
“Banene”, being in opposition doesn’t mean just opposing everything for the sake of it. That is immoral and desperate opportunism.

HH may claim to be knowledgeable but Knowledge without wisdom is like water in the sand; and if you are filled with pride, you will have no room for wisdom.

Why doesn’t he look and learn from the opposition wisdom and maturity of Julius Malema in South Africa?

The politics of desperation of HH are tribal and very immature. His impulsiveness reactions and blind desperation create critical lapses in his judgment. It is this bitter desperation that has constantly been behind his poor decision making and knee jerk reactions.
This is why he has yielded poor outcomes through 5 Presidential Elections over the 13 years he has led UPND.

Is this the kind of tribal, immature, impulsive and insensitive person that can be trusted to lead this country?

Definitely not!

Jackson Kungo, MCC
Provincial Chairman
North Western Province.

Today’s Message: He Doesn’t Need a Cloud

0

Today’s Scripture

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?…”
(Genesis 18:14, NIV)

He Doesn’t Need a Cloud

One beautiful, sunny day we were in the backyard enjoying the blue sky when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, it began to rain even though there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. The sun was out and very bright, but for about three minutes, there was a downpour. We thought, “Where in the world is this rain coming from?”

It was like God was saying, “I can make it rain whenever I want to. I can use a little cloud, a big cloud or no cloud. I’m God. I’m the All-Powerful, Creator of the universe. When I say rain, I don’t need a cloud. When I say healing, I don’t have to use the medicine. When I say promotion, I don’t need the approval of your boss. When I say abundance, I don’t need a bank. I’m not limited by the natural. I’m a supernatural God.”

Whatever you are facing today, no matter what things look like in the natural, know that God has the answer. Trust Him because He can make a way where there seems to be no way. He can make something out of nothing, and He doesn’t need a cloud to make it rain!

A Prayer for Today

“Father, I praise You today because You are worthy. I trust that You are working behind the scenes on my behalf. I believe that You can make a way out of no way, and I look for Your rain of blessing in every area of my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Stakeholders make submissions to Parliament over constitution amendment Bill

Stakeholders have continued to make submissions on the Bill to amend the Constitution of Zambia as the Parliamentary Committee scrutinizing the Bill turned away the Non-Governmental Organisations Coordinating Council (NGOCC)

Centre for Young Leaders in Africa (CYLA) led United Party for National Development (UPND) in Mumbwa Jones Malunga a and Green Party Secretary General Daniel Sichilongo were grilled by both UPND and Patriotic Front (PF) and members of parliament over their support for a provision providing for coalition government.

YALI President Andrew Ntewewe shows a copy of the American Constitution to the Committee
YALI President Andrew Ntewewe shows a copy of the American Constitution to the Committee

But Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) President Andrew Ntewewe has defended the proposal for the formation of coalition government by referring the Committee to another Report of Committee on Legal Affairs, Governance, Human Rights, Gender Matters and Child Affairs chaired by UPND Choma Central Member of Parliament, Mr. Cornelius Mweetwa in which stakeholders had proposed the formation of the coalition government and the mixed member representation system, among others.

Meanwhile, the Zambia National Students Union (ZANASU) rejected the provision to reintroduce deputy ministers on the basis Government has no money to pay for deputy minister. ZANASU President Misheck Kakonde wondered where the money would come from since Government has repeatedly indicated it had no money to pay meal allowances to students from public universities and extend education loan scheme to private universities.

The majority of stakeholders have made submissions have overwhelmingly supported the retention of the Christian Nation clause in the preamble by deletion of the words, “multi religious” and introduction the mixed member electoral proportional representation system.

Other provisions which have been supported include the increase in the number of days for hearing and determining the election petition from 14 days to 30 days, the existence of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts as two separate courts, the election of mayors from among councillors, deletion of too much detail such as commissions from the Constitution and readmission of members of parliament into councils.

There has, however, been mixed feelings over entrenchment of Christian values in the Constitution, proroguing of the National Assembly as opposed to dissolution.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Committee on Friday turned away NGOCC representatives who copied the submissions by TI Zambia, word for word. Reacting to the news, ZANASU Vice President, Steven Kanyakula, has advised civil society organisation leaders to end the collusion where institutions submit multiple but similar thoughts in different jackets.

Mr. Kanyakula observed that multiple submissions are a deception which has reduced the reform process to an activity of same stakeholders and elites as Parliament is not given an opportunity to hear from institutions that provide independent and original minds of their own.

Zanaco Calm Ahead of Hosting In-form Eagles

0

Zanaco insist Green Eagles current good competitive form has not unsettled them heading into Sunday’s FAZ Super Division Week Two home match at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

Zanaco host Eagles into the weekends only league fixture game after losing 1-0 away to defending champions Zesco United in a Week One fixture last weekend in Ndola.

Eagles on the other hand have made a good start to their 2019/20 campaign whose highlight saw them eliminated Orlando Pirates from the CAF Champions League winning 1-0 at home and drawing 1-1 away in South Africa last month.

They and later began their league season last weekend with a 1-1 home draw against Kabwe Warriors.

Zanaco assistant coach Dabid Chilufya admits victory in Sunday’s match is critical for them to take into their 2019/20 CAF Confederation Cup second round, first leg away date in Mauritius next weekend against Bolton City FC.

“Losing the first game was not good but what we can say is that this game is very crucial for sure because we need the three points before we go and face Bolton. I believe that the payers are ready for Sunday,” Chilufya said.

“Looking at what Eagles have done, it can actually give you pressure because they have done very well but it is not the players but our technical bench that must absorb that pressure.

“They should not think or look at Eagles eliminating Pirates and us losing to Zesco.”

Chambeshi: Zambia U23 is the Peoples Team

Beston Chambeshi says his Zambia U23 team cannot afford to disappoint its loyal followers who have believed in them since they won the 2017 U20 AFCON.

Zambia U23 faces its biggest test since lifting the U20 AFCON at home two years ago when they visit Congo-Brazzaville in their 2019 U23 AFCON final leg qualifier decider at Pointe Noir.

Very few teams leave Pointe Noir unscathed but Chambeshi’s side is hoping to complete the job by any means necessary after beating Congo 2-1 in the first leg at home in Lusaka on September 4.

A draw is enough for Zambia to qualify for the November tournament in Egypt where the top three finishers will represent Africa at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

“You know this team is the people’s team and we are happy with the way they have been supporting us and so we have to make sure we give them a smile. So our aim is to protect our image as a country,” Chambeshi said.

“We may have one or two changes because we are playing away from home.

“We cannot play an open game but at the same time we are an attacking team, because we need goals there.

“But like I have said, we have to be cautious in defence and play with confidence.”
