Rampant Nkana welcomes Warriors

5

FAZ Super Division leaders Nkana look set to maintain their stay at the top of the table when they host promoted Kabwe Warriors at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe one of the midweek games.

Coach Aggrey Chiyangi’s Nkana top the table with 9 points, three better than second placed Zanaco after three matches played so far in the new season.

Nkana will be hoping to take advantage of Zanaco’s absence to extend their lead at the summit with a win over Kabwe Warriors at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

The 12-time champions are facing a Warriors side that has recorded two straight stalemates in their first two fixtures.

“We have to keep the focus. We don’t have to underrate any team going forward,” Chiyangi said.

Elsewhere, the Mufulira derby returns after a one year absence with Mufulira Wanderers hosting their sworn rivals Mufulira Blackpool at Shinde Stadium.

Mighty and Blackpool last met in 2014 when both teams were in Division.

The two teams enter Shinde Stadium with contrasting fortunes that have seen unbeaten Mighty conjure a win and two draws.

Blackpool have lost their first two fixtures with the latest being 3-1 thumping they suffered at the hands of Nkana at the weekend.

“You know these boys are friends. They play together, so when they meet in the derby they want to show who is better. It will be a very tough game I know. They haven’t won a game but that doesn’t mean they are a bad side,” Mighty coach Manfred Chabinga said.

Power Dynamos’ midweek game against Zanaco has been postponed as their opponents are preparing for a CAF Confederation Cup tie against Stade Gabesien to be played on Saturday in Lusaka.

Zesco United’s game against Red Arrows has also been postponed as the local champions are in Mali for their CAF Champions League clash.

Chief Government Spokesman Chishimba Kambwili has released sensational details of how late President Michael Sata used to ridicule then Vice President Guy Scott during internal party and government meetings.

Mr Kambwili said President Sata on frequent occasions used to tell the PF and government inner circles that Dr Scott would have been a very foolish man if he weren’t a white man.
He said President Sata never respected Dr Scott at all and used to it known to every one close to him in the party and the government.

Mr Kambwili who is also Roan Member of Parliament was speaking during a news briefing in Lusaka.

“Everybody knows how President Sata used to tell off Scott during our meetings. He used to say that Uyu ngalifye ichipuba ngatali umusungu (Scott would have been a very foolish man if he weren’t a white man,” Mr Kambwili said.

He added, “If you think I am lying, you can ask the former Chief Justice Madam Chibesakunda, there were many instances when Scott was dressed down by President Sata because the man was not taken seriously even within the party.”

Mr Kambwili said the decision by Dr Scott to endorse UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema for the August elections proves that the former Vice President is politically foolish.

“Even us who were doubting as to why President Sata was always talking down on Dr Scott now believe that the late President was right. Scott is a politically foolish man who is way past his sell by date. He overrates himself but he makes poor political judgements,” he said.

And Mr Kambwili has revealed that he has officially lodged a complaint to the Zambia Police Service against the Post Newspapers for alleged illegal phone tapping.

He said he reported the matter to the Police regarding the publication of his private phone conversations with Kitwe District Commissioner Chanda Kabwe over the Presidential Loan Scheme for traders.

“I have now reported this newspaper to the Police and I believe they will investigate because it is illegal for newspaper to tap people’s private conversations and publish them. Remember what happened in the UK with the BBC, they were charged for illegally listening to people’s private discussions and I want the police to get to the bottom of this,” he said.

The University of Zambia has announced that the institution is ready for re-opening after having met all the benchmarks set by Higher Education Minister Michael Kaingu.

UNZA Public Relations and International Liaison Relations Manager Damaseke Chibale said all the conditions set by Higher Education Minister Michael Kaingu had been met including mounting of security cameras in strategic places at the institution.

Mr. Chibale said that distance learning students are expected will report on April 10 while day time students will report on April 24.

He said the process of issuing ID cards to all the students has since commenced.

“We have started installing CCTV in strategic locations within the University grounds which we can’t disclose for security reasons,” Mr Chibale said.

UNZA and the Copperbelt University were closed by Dr Kaingu on February 3 following riots that be-dogged the two higher learning institutions over meal allowances.

Government has set out 10 conditions for re-opening including expulsion of ring leaders, signing of commitment forms to not engage in violence and installation of security cameras.

It said, “This act is libellous and malicious. We can only assume that it is meant to dent the good image of Bishop Banda. This criminal act has thus been reported to law enforcement agencies.”

“Dr Banda is on record for championing the Biblical teaching aimed at raising public awareness regarding the dangers of tokenism which results from the use and misapplication of religious emblems such as oil, water etc. which is rampant in our day. Rainbow Party Secretary General and presidential candidate Wynter Kabimba says he does not want to run a contaminated party.

Speaking when he featured on radio Phoenix’s Let the People Talk radio program Mr Kabimba said he will not run a party which is contaminated with corrupt individuals who keep moving from one political party to another for self preservation.

He said his party will neither allow individuals of questionable character in the public’s eye to join them nor will it accept any funding form any sources who he described as contaminated.

He said presiding over a contaminated party would simply mean that he is willing to run a contaminated government hence would not make any difference to the lives of the many poor Zambians who desire real change and not just changing the name of the party.

Meanwhile Mr Kabimba said if the statement attributed to Republican President that it was going to be difficult to control political violence was to by then it only meant that the president is either incompetent and can not control his cadres or he is the architect of the scourge.

“If the statement attributed to the president that he said that it would be very difficult to control political violence was indeed true and anything to go by then it only means two things, either the man is saying he is incompetent and he is failing to control his part functionaries together with the Central Committee or that he is the architect of the violence himself,” he said.

Mr Kabimba further said the peace talks organised by the Catholic Bishops was just an initiative in futurity as the country has not moved from square one as regards political violence.

He said the people that perpetrate violence and those that hold the power to stop the scourge have decided to ignore the good faith of the church and have continued doing the same things they are supposed to be preaching against.

He said the kind of insolence and impudence by those that perpetrate violence was frighting and that people should learn to respect decision such that of the clergy who are doing all they can for the sake of peace in the country.

GOVERNMENT has warned small scale meali meal traders in Kalulushi against hiking the price of the staple food beyond its recommended of not more than K80.00 per 25kg or breakfast or risked their licenses be revoked.

District Commissioner Kenny Siachisumo yesterday issued a warning that any trader found hiked mealie meal price beyond K80.00 per 25 kilogrammes bag of breakfast would have trading license revoked.

He noted that small business entities in the area were exploiting people by selling them consumers by selling meali meal at exorbitant prices.

“In some out let’s a 25 kilogramme of breakfast is costing at K90.00 or K95.00 while some are packing in small transparent plastic bags, commonly as pamela.

All these two methods are making situation look as if we have some kind of shortage of mealie meal in Kalulushi while we have no shortage at all.

“Because on Monday Antelope had received 600 x 25kilogram and the other two were expected to receive the same on Tuesday,” he said.

Mr Siachisumo said the district had three major out let’s that always maintain enough stocks of mealie meal, but wondered why small traders had started hiking prices up to K95.00 per 25 kilogrammes of breakfast.

“We have the information that some small business traders, especially in the second class trading area are buying mealie meal in bulk from our three local major out let’s and later start selling at higher prices,” he said.

Mr Siachisumo said at Antelope a 25kg of breakfast was at K75.00, then at Super Mealile it was at K78.00 while at Olympic the same brand and quantity was at K80.00.

He cautioned all consumers to be weary of those unscrupulous traders, adding that most of them were trying to tarnish the image of the Government in power.

PF Deputy Spokesperson Frank Bwalya says his party will not sit idle and let UPND President Hakainde Hichilema tarnish the name of the party by propagating lies about the PF government.

Mr Bwalya said members of the PF and those in government will continue responding to Mr Hichilema as long as he continues telling lies about the government.

He accused Mr Hichilema of lying on BBC radio that the Zambian government exported maize at US$200 and is now importing the same maize at $400.

“As long as Mr Hakainde Hichilema continues to say things about PF government which are not true we are going to respond. No one should think that we are panicking over him not at all as long as he says something that we don’t agree with, that we think is misleading we are going to respond.

“For instance his statement on BBC recently that the Zambian government sold maize at $200 per metric ton and is importing the same maize at $400 that was a lie and those in government including some of us in PF can not keep quiet, we need to respond.

“I must be very clear that we will not stop talking about President Hakainde Hichilema, about the things that he says when we don’t agree and in the same way no one should stop him from criticising government decisions or indeed the PF,” he said.

And Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Chishimba Kambwili has appealed to the media to be ethical in their reporting.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka, Mr. Kambwili said government is in receipt of information that some media houses have been paid to give positive coverage to selected political parties while painting others in the negative.

Mr. Kambwili has called on the body mandated to regulate ethics for newspapers to do its job because the government is concerned with the language and tone of some newspapers.

And Mr. Kambwili has called on former Vice President Guy Scott to leave active politics saying he has lost integrity.

Mr. Kambwili disclosed that Dr Scott was twice offered ministerial positions by President Edgar Lungu which he turned down.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kambwili said Democratic Front leader Miles Sampa was misleading the people over reasons why he chose to leave the PF.

Mr. Kambwili said all those that were fighting President Lungu were doing so out of hatred.

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and Democratic Front leader Miles Sampa gesture to their supporters who came to witness the signing of an election pact between UPND and DF.

Opposition Democratic Front (DF) leader Miles Sampa says his decision and that of former vice president Guy Scott to support the UPND in the forthcoming elections guarantees President Edgar Lungu’s first round defeat.

He says the ruling PF has realized that he is more popular than President Edgar Lungu especially in provinces such as the Copperbelt.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka this morning, Mr. Sampa says this is why his political activities on the Copperbelt are restricted.

And Mr. Sampa has described as fake yesterday’s purported defections of his party members to the ruling Patriotic Front.

Mr. Sampa says the purported defections are a sign of desperation on the part of the ruling PF.

He has since challenged the ruling PF to produce certificates of appointment of those it is claiming have defected.

Meanwhile Mr. Sampa has explained that his party’s alliance with the UPND is based on what he thinks late President Michael Sata would have done.

Mr. Sampa says having learnt from late President Sata’s school of politics, he recalls that the late President at one point went into an alliance with the opposition UPND.
