Chiyangi tells impressive Nkana to remain focused

1

Nkana coach Aggrey Chiyangi is urging his team to remain focused after winning their opening three matches of the 2016 FAZ Super Division season.

Nkana on Saturday continued to cause a storm and dominate after three rounds played in the Super Division season after coming from behind to flatten Mufulira Blackpool 3-1 in Kitwe.

“It was a very good and interesting game. Playing teams like Blackpool they will always come at you and they are motivated because every player wants to join Nkana,” Chiyangi said.

“We have to keep the focus. We don’t have to underrate any team going forward,” he said.

The Wusakile side had beaten Nkwazi (2-1) and Green Eagles (3-1) prior to overcoming promoted Blackpool at Arthur Davies Stadium.

Chiyangi added:”It feels very good to win three out of three games. Any coach would be very happy.”

Nkana are now preparing to host Kabwe Warriors in a Week 4 match on Wednesday.

Zanaco thump Nchanga

Zanaco on Sunday eased past Nchanga Rangers with a 2-0 win to record their second straight victory in the 2016 FAZ Super Division campaign.

Forward Davy Daka scored for the Bankers before Nchanga defender Kamuzati Kabwe registered a classical own goal in this Week 3 match at Nchanga Stadium.

Daka gave Zanaco a 1-0 lead into the half time break after 42 minutes.

Nchanga’s attempts to equalise hit a snag in the 66th minute when veteran Kamuzati beat his own keeper Pascal Kasonde with a classic long range header.

Meanwhile, this was Zanaco’s second game of the season having missed Week 2 matches due to CAF Confederation Cup engagement

President Lungu warns Employers flouting Labour Laws

President Lungu

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has warned employers that those found wanting especially by flouting employees’ rights will be dealt with within the confines of the labour law and regulations.

And the Zambia Federation of Employers (ZFE) has awarded Zambia’s First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda and late Second Republican President Frederick Chiluba for liberating the nation from colonial rulers as well as for liberating the country’s economy respectively.

Mr Lungu said his administration would not take kind to employers whose motives were bent on frustrating Government efforts in bettering the lives of people.

Mr Lungu said this in a speech read for him by Labour and Social Security Minister Fackson Shamenda in Livingstone at Chrismar Hotel on Friday night during ZFE Jubilee celebration under the theme “a good employer belongs to ZFE for industrial harmony and economic development”.

“I wish to clearly state that employers found wanting especially by flouting employees’ rights will be dealt with within the confines of the labour law and regulations.

“We will not take kind to employers whose motives are bent on frustrating Government efforts in bettering the lives of people,” Mr Lungu said.

He also said employers must always endeavour to be transparent and ensure communication channels to employers were as open as possible to avert labour unrest.

“Your role as employers in job creation is cardinal and hence my appeal for you to take advantage of many investment and collaborative opportunities availed by my Government to facilitate job creation for my people.

“I also wish to commend the Minister of Labour and Social Security Hon. Shamenda for promoting industrial harmony in the midst of economic challenges,” Mr Lungu said.

He said ZFE has been a key partner to the Government over the last 50 years in the development process of the country.

“My Government has always been and remains committed to delivering an inclusive development in the country.

“In doing so, we are fully committed to collaborating with diverse employers in our country. Our promotion of this collaboration should not be construed as a weakness on our part as Government,” he said.

He commended the efforts of ZFE over the last 50 years to improve the welfare of workers saying there was still room to improve.

“As you are aware, a motivated employee contributes effectively not only to the organisation’s productivity but also to the country as well.

“For the last 50 years, employers in Zambia have enjoyed an enabling environment and my Government will continue to promote dialogue with employers,” he said.

Mr Lungu also conveyed his profound gratitude to ZFE for recognising two of his predecessors for their contribution to the country.

He said the Patriotic Front (PF) Government had prioritised a number of infrastructure developments across the country since ascending into office in 2011.

And ZFE president Tyson Bruno said his Federation honoured Dr Kaunda and late Dr Chiluba because of their role in liberating the country from colonial rule as well as for liberating the country’s economy respectively.

Mr Bruno said ZFE also thanked Dr Kaunda for assenting to the Industrial and labour Relations Act Cap 269 of the laws of Zambia that established the Federation.

“ZFE is looking forward to continued cooperation with social partners and hope for a time when the country will be completely free of industrial unrest,” Mr Bruno said.

Several speakers from the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Dutch Employers Cooperation Programme (DECP) and Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) also spoke during the gathering.

SOME residents of Lusaka have complained about severe brutality by the recently dispatched police recruits.

The residents said the recruits had even gone as far as getting money and other valuables from people who are found walking as early as 20:00 hours.

“We have no peace now since these Kamfinsa guys were brought here, some of us work on night shifts and knock off around 04:00 hours in the morning and we usually bump into them,” a source said.

Another source who was walking home after parking his car at a garage was forced to jump into the premises of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses to avoid being beaten by the officers.

But police spokesperson, Charity Chanda said the officers were only instructed to apprehend suspects and urged residents that any form of brutality should be reported at any police station.

“As far as we are concerned, no one has complained of being beaten by the police and there is no curfew in Zambia. What we want is law and order to prevail,” she said.

The residents of Lusaka have since appealed to Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja to instruct the officers to escort those found moving at night to their homes.

Government restricts movement of mealie meal to between 06:00 hours and 18:00 hours

Government has with immediate effect restricted the movement of maize and maize meal to between 06:00 hours and 18:00 hours.

Law enforcement agencies will confiscate any maize or maize meal transported beyond 18:00 hours.

The restriction on the movement of the products is one of the measures the Government has taken to ensure that the commodity remains available on the market to meet local demand and mitigate artificial shortages.

Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary Julius Shawa announced this during a media briefing in Lusaka yesterday, which was also attended by his Home Affairs counterpart Chileshe Mulenga and Lusaka Province’s Stardy Mwale.

Other measures are limiting maize exports for pre-existing contracts to 227,245 tonnes.

All such exports should be supported by valid export documents which should be availed to law enforcement officers on demand.

“Failure to avail law enforcement officers with appropriate valid export documentation will result in the confiscation of the maize and forfeiture of the trucks used.

“Any suspicious movements of maize and maize meal, as well as any bulk-buying and hoarding should be reported to the offices of the district commissioners or any public offices,” he said.

Mr Shawa said although Zambia was food-secure, it had been observed that food insecurity affecting some countries in the region was causing unnecessary anxiety locally.

He assured that Zambia remained food-secure even amidst the current regional food deficit as the country had adequate stocks.

“To date, 762,668 tonnes of maize have been allocated to the millers for the domestic market. A further 174,532 metric tonnes remain uncommitted and is available for the school-feeding programme, community sales and food relief under the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit,” Mr Shawa said.

He said the available food stocks were sufficient to take Zambia to the next harvest season and urged the citizenry to remain calm and desist from hoarding maize or maize meal.

Mr Shawa said the recently-impounded maize and maize meal, including that in pre-existing export contracts under the private sector, was currently being verified to check for valid export documentation and whether the exporters were on the list of those on pre-existing export contracts.

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has reiterated his call for peace in the nation ?and called on all Zambians to condemn violence perpetrated by selfish individuals.

The President, who was yesterday among scores of people who witnessed the Jubilee celebrations of Kenneth Kaunda Secondary School together with first Republican president Kenneth Kaunda, said Zambia could not turn ?a blind eye to the famous motto of ‘One Zambia, One Nation’.

Mr Lungu praised the heroes and heroines, including Dr Kaunda, for sacrificing a lot and championing peace and unity which had to date made Zambia the beacon of peace in the world.

He told the gathering that the country’s tribe was Zambian, and that the onus lay with all citizens to exercise restraint and promote brotherly love which Jesus Christ spoke about in Mathew 22:37-39, which Dr Kaunda emphasised during his reign.

The President urged Zambians to adhere to the commandments of loving God and ?their neighbours as this was the sure way of maintaining peace.

“With these commandments, if we put them in practice, then it would be very easy to respect others and co-exist with them,” Mr Lungu said

He said his administration had embarked on various development projects such as the construction of schools and universities to restore Zambia’s dignity.

The Head of State said he would ensure that Kenneth Kaunda Secondary School was repaired to improve its status.

The President donated a Higer bus to the school as well as another one to Chinsali Day Secondary School to honour the late President Michael Sata’s pledge to the learning institutions.

Mr Lungu also donated another bus which the provincial administration would decide where to allocate it.The President urged former pupils of the school to contribute and improve its status.

Dr Kaunda, who was present at the event, praised Mr Lungu’s leadership and urged him to continue with his good work. Kenneth Kaunda Secondary School, which has turned 50 this year, was opened in 1965 and was initially named Lubwa Secondary School before being renamed in honour of Dr Kaunda the same year.

The celebrations were held under the theme ‘Kenneth Kaunda Secondary School at fifty with improved learner performance and resuscitating the school infrastructure for national development’.

Scores of people witnessed the celebrations which were characterised by music and dance from local Zambian artistes, among them, Mozegator, Macky II and Jordan Katembula, commonly known as JK?.

The President and Dr Kaunda together with other members of the entourage were taken on a tour of the school.

President Lungu’s assistant for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda, Dr Kaunda, General Education Minister John Phiri, area Member of Parliament Christopher Mulenga, Local Government Minister, Steven Kampyongo, Muchinga Province Minister Mwimba Malama and traditional leaders were among the people who attended the function.

President Lungu, who first landed at Kasama Airport, arrived in Chinsali at 12:00 hours and found scores of residents waiting for him at Chinsali airstrip.
?He proceeded to Kenneth Kaunda Secondary School for the Golden Jubilee celebrations, where he also unveiled a portrait of Dr Kaunda.

The General Education minister thanked Dr Kaunda for laying a firm foundation in the education sector. He said God who saw Mr Lungu elected as President in January 2015 would allow him to be re-elected because the people of Zambia had fallen in love with his leadership.

Today’s Message: Don’t Be Moved

7

bibleToday’s Scripture

“But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.”
(Acts 20:24, NKJV)

Don’t Be Moved

I think it’s interesting that the apostle Paul never prayed for every challenge to go away. He prayed that God would give him the strength to go through them with a good attitude. He sought emotional maturity.

Our level of emotional maturity can be seen by how much it takes to get us upset. You’ve heard the saying, “A small pot boils the quickest.” That means if we don’t keep our emotions in check, we’ll always be stressed out and make mountains out of molehills.

If we lose our cool because our child forgot his or her homework, or we’re aggravated because somebody didn’t do something we wanted them to do, then we’re not passing the test. We’ve got to grow and mature to the point where we can say what the apostle Paul said, “None of these things move me.” He said in effect, “It’s no big deal. I’m not worried about it. I trust God. I have a destiny to fulfill.”

Today, choose to see things from God’s perspective. Keep your emotions in check. Don’t be moved by your circumstances; instead, trust God because He is faithful. He’s working behind the scenes, and He will fulfill His promises to you!

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for doing a work in my life. Thank You for molding me and shaping me into Your image. I ask for Your supernatural joy and strength to stand strong no matter what I face in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
