Davies Chama tells People of Kasama to Chew GBM Money and not vote for him

PEOPLE of Kasama should accept Geoffrey Mwamba’s gifts and chew his money since he has offered it to them on a silver platter but should also remember to do a don’t kubeba on him because money has gotten to his head Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general Davies Chama has charged.

And Mr. Chama has claimed that cracks in the United Party for National Development (UPND) have emerged after senior members become aware of Mr. Mwamba’s schemes to allegedly take over the party leadership if its president Hakainde Hichilema loses the 2016 elections.

Reacting to Mr. Mwamba’s comment that the Kasama Central by-election would be the most expensive in the history of Zambia as he was willing to spend whatever amount of money was at his disposal to retain his seat, Mr. Chama said the electorate in Kasama should accept the gifts from Mr. Mwamba with both hands.

Mr Mwamba said he was ready to spend money like he did in the Kabwata parliamentary election in 2006 which he however lost to Mr Given Lubinda who is still the incumbent and Minister of Agriculture.

“I am more than ready I will match them dollar for dollar, pound for pound, Kwacha for Kwacha , chitenge for chitenge and bicycle for bicycle,” Mr Mwamba who was reacting to the High Court’s declaration of his seat vacant warned.

On Thursday, Mr Mwamba lost an application for judicial review in the High Court over Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini’s decision to declare Kasama Central constituency vacant.

But Mr Chama said it was time to teach some politicians a lesson that money was not everything to win an election.

“We welcome Mr. Mwamba’s call to the feast and since he is ready to spend, let the people of Kasama enjoy themselves; chew his money and get all the gifts he wants to lure you for votes with but don’t forget to do a don’t kubeba on him when election time comes,” he said.
He said Mr. Mwamba will never learn from history because he was obsessed with money which he thought could make Zambians surrender their souls to him.

“Mr. Mwamba’s money has gotten to his head and he has stopped thinking properly and that is why he is taking Zambians for a ride. This is the same thing he did in Kabwata when he stood against Honourable (Given) Lubinda where he said he would spend about K3 billion (unrebased) but he lost to a candidate who did not have money.

“He now thinks he is popular but he forgets that it was PF that made him to be what he is today because he thinks money is everything. PF has never won elections using money but we have been issue-based and that is what has won us the elections. So, let him spend; let him feed the people but he will be surprised,” he said.

Mr Chama said Mr. Mwamba should not cheat himself that he could win in Kasama because he was headed for an embarrassing defeating as people had rejected him after realising that he could not be trusted because of his disregard for the electorate.

“Ask people in Kasama to tell you the truth on the ground because Mr. Mwamba is no longer a factor he used to be when he was in PF under which he gained the popularity that he is boasting about today,” Mr. Chama said.

He wondered why Mr. Mwamba rushed to the courts for protection when on the other hand he was boasting about being popular.

“If he is popular as he claims, what was the motive behind rushing to court to protect himself? If he is popular, why is he desperate to spend all that amount of money? Our message has always been clear; we don’t win elections using money because you cannot buy voters. We are issue based and that is what ushered us into power against a very strong ruling party that had money at its disposal in 2011,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chama has observed that Mr. Mwamba was a good ambassador for the PF because he had successfully managed to sow a seed of discontentment among UPND faithfuls who were now agitated by his bullish antics as he was positioning himself to takeover when Mr. Hichilema loses in 2016 by plotting its downfall.

“We have inside information that there are already confusions in UPND because Mr. Hichilema is agitated that Mr. Mwamba, who is the newcomer to the party is scheming to take over the party leadership when he loses in 2016. So, he is a good ambassador for us,” he said.

Zambia Must Seek economic Independence-Bowman Lusambo

Mr Bowman Lusambo addressing the people that attended the gospel concert in Kabushi on Ffriday night
Mr Bowman Lusambo

As Zambia celebrates its 51 years of Independence, we as MMD youths wish to commend efforts by Government to economically empower local Zambians through small scale mining.

Our forefathers attained political independence but our generation has to work towards economical and social emancipation.

We firmly believe that Zambia will attain social and economic development solely by the efforts of its own people.

As much as we support Foreign Direct Investment, we believe that local investment by local Zambians will spur further development.

The turbulence going on in the mining sector where some foreign owned mines are being placed on care and maintenance could be avoided if majority of the mines were owned by indigenous Zambians.

The developments in Chingola on the Copperbelt where Tikumbe Mining Ltd is undertaking small scale mining are welcome and commendable.

We further applaud the efforts by His Excellency Edgar Chagwa Lungu and Mines Minister Hon. Christopher Yaluma to resolve the impasse which surrounded the operations of the mine.

We are alive to the many obstacles and challenges that Hon. Yaluma faced when arriving at the decision to hand over the mine to Tikumbe Mining Ltd.

As MMD youths, it has always baffled us as to why Zambia has never had indigenous mine owners even after 100 years of mining history.

Tikambe is a good example of what local Zambians can do once they are given an opportunity. The mine has provided employment for local Zambians.
What is even more gratifying is that the mine has since started ploughing back into the local community through a vigorous Corporate Social Responsibility program.

We further commend the new management under its Chief Executive Officer Mr Ibrahim Yousuf who has committed himself to ensuring that the mine is back to production and the proceeds generated from the mine are shared with the local communities.

If Zambia has to produce mining magnates who will own huge mining conglomerates, it has to start now with deliberates policies and strategies as these demonstrated by President Lungu and Hon. Yaluma.

Indigenous Zambians have over the years developed the required skill set necessarily to run a mining operation.

It therefore follows that Government must continue on its path to support and empower local people that are making efforts to run such operations.
We also urge the local community around the mine area to give maximum support to Tikumbe Mining Ltd to ensure the sustainability of the operation because the local community are the ultimate winners in this project.

The step taken by Government to hand over the mine to local Zambians is in the right direction and demonstrates its commitment to creating a nation of wealth people who will control its economic destiny.

As MMD youths, we also wish to warn some foreign investors who are in the habit of promising heaven and earth to Government when applying for investment licences but fail to fulfil any of their commitments both to Government and to the communities they operate.

Such investors are not needed in the modern day Zambia and we wish to send a strong warning to them that their days are numbered because Zambians now have the capacity to manage their own affairs efficiently.

HH U-Turns on Prayer and Fasting, urges UPND Members to turn up in numbers

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has called on his party members to turn up in numbers for tomorrow’s national day of prayers, fasting and reconciliation. Mr Hichilema has acknowledged the strength of prayer and unity of purpose during trying moments.

Mr Hichilema said that he will lead UPND members in participating in the national event called by President Edgar Lungu. Mr Hichilema said this in Lusaka through UPND Deputy Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa.

Earlier this month, UPND gave Government four conditions to meet before the party members could attend the much talked about national day of prayer and fasting scheduled for October 18th, 2015.

UPND Special Assistant to the President Edward Mumbi told QFM News in an interview that the party had refused to go for the program but that they wanted the PF Government to address certain issues before showing up at the program.

Mr. Mumbi said at the time that it was important that the government clearly indicates how the lives of the people would be safeguarded during that event considering that there had been indiscriminate use of firearms by PF cadres. Mr Mumbi said that believed that the life of the UPND Leader and other people maybe in danger if this issue is not carefully addressed.

Mr Mumbi said that the other conditions that the government should meet was to tell the nation the way forward concerning the constitution making process which he said there was no clear roadmap in coming up with the new supreme law of the land.

Mr Mumbi also said that other issues that needed to be addressed was the violence and insulting opposition of leaders by PF cadres.
Mr. Mumbi has emphasized that the PF have been mocking the people of Zambia for a long period of time now and there was no need of sitting with them.

He quoted Psalms 1:1 at the time which says “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers”, saying it is difficult for the party to associate with the PF because of they have mocked Zambians.

Mr. Mumbi said that if the above conditions were met, then party members will not have difficulties to be part of the proceedings.

It is not clear if the above conditions were met by the PF Government.

court

A 35-YEAR-OLD man of Kitwe has testified before the High Court how his friend was allegedly stabbed four times on his buttocks by two jerabos who later robbed him of his K7, 000.
In this case, Simeon Kalobo, 29, and Geoffrey Venda, 26, both suspected members of a notorious gang called jerabos, are facing one count of aggravated robbery.
Particulars of the offence are that Kalobo and Venda on August 10, this year, in Kitwe, jointly and whilst acting together with others, unknown and whilst armed with an offensive weapon, stole K7, 000 cash from Terry Kayamba.

He testified that the two went to the slug dump site, commonly known as Black Mountain, in Wusakile township where they were sent to check for machines.
The court heard that whilst there, Kalobo and Venda picked up a fight with the complainant and assaulted him on his upper lip.
“I accompanied him to Kitwe Central Hospital, and whilst the doctor was attending to him in his office, the two accused person’s came in the office in the company of four others and lifted Kayamba from the chair where he sat,” Kuchile said.
He narrated that Kalobo then got a knife and stabbed the complainant on his buttocks four times.
“I was also thrown into the van and they drove to Kantanta Street where they stopped the vehicle and started searching Kayamba and robbed him of his K7, 000,” he said.

Siamese Mum Twins tells her story: I was scared, confused and started crying

THE names are on the table – Chipego and Choolwe – and the tale of the Lusaka Siamese twins is far from over as doctors continue to grapple with the medical puzzle.

The mother’s shock of delivering conjoined twins has not diminished since their birth on Monday.

As Christina Moono looks at the twins with an overflowing mother’s love, proud to have given birth to the twins, she hopes for yet another medical breakthrough at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

She says she has faith in the abilities of Zambian doctors, much as she has in God, who blessed her with the twins joined at the abdomen.

“I want to name them Chipego and Choolwe,” she said, with a smile as she narrated the ‘ordeal’ of the babies’ birth and their subsequent transfer to the country’s biggest referral hospital.

She said she was still struggling to overcome the shock, let alone understand the situation.

She was devastated when she first set her eyes on the twins at Batoka Hospital near Choma.

The bouncy babies, sharing one naval and whose sex is yet to be determined , lay consciously in the hospital bed in the intensive care unit, watched closely by nurses and the mother.

“When I saw that my children were attached to one another, I was scared, confused and started crying. I thought of how I would manage to take care of them,” she said.

However, the nurses in Batoka consoled the mother of seven, who already has a set of twins, and told her to have faith in God.

“I am still confused. I will only settle down if a solution is found to my children’s condition. I want them to be separated but I leave everything in God’s hands,” she said.

Lasford Munsaka, the father of the twins, is confident the medical personnel will find a solution.

“Seeing joined babies was strange for me, but I have accepted that it has happened and we have left everything in God’s hands,” Mr Munsaka said.

UTH public relations manager Mwenya Mulenga said the twins are in stable condition and are undergoing procedural tests before determining the next action.

But he assured that the twins, the eighth set in Zambia since 1970, are in stable condition.

Chief Ntambu dismisses Post Newspaper Report as “Total Fabrication”

17

CHIEF Ntambu of the Lunda people of Mwinilunga district in North-Western Province has dismissed as lies reports by The Post that quoted him disparaging Government.

The traditional leader said yesterday that the story published in The Post yesterday quoting him was a “total fabrication”.

Chief Ntambu said he could not sink so low to insult the government as reported by The Post.

“Up to now I am still shocked that some people can go to such levels to manipulate the truth because this story was a total fabrication and I never, never uttered those words and I want to refute that story,” he said.

He said he is a Christian and that he respects the political leadership of the country and the government of the day.
Chief Ntambu said the story was a distortion of the truth and must not be taken seriously.
Chief Ntambu said he would not insult the government even if he was under pressure.

The traditional leader explained that The Post reporter who identified himself as Frederick Misebezi, who phoned him to interview him, wanted to find out about the state of the health facilities and staffing levels in the clinics.

He said the reporter later asked him to comment on the national day of repentance, prayer and fasting.

Chief Ntambu said the only challenges he highlighted were the bad state of the Makung’u-Ntambu road, which also leads to Chief Sailunga’s area, and not what was reported in the newspaper.

He said he told the reporter that Kalumbila Mine had given him about 11,000 litres of diesel in response to his request to be used on works on the road.

Chief Ntambu said on the day of prayer and fasting set for tomorrow, he questioned what the country would pray for because he was not aware about it and at that point, the reporter cut the line even before they could conclude their conversation.

He said he was shocked to read what was reported in the newspaper because at no point had he uttered such words.
The traditional leader said he would continue to work with the government of the day to speed up development in his area.

Chief Ntambu also commended the government for giving Luwi Rural Health Centre two ambulances to improve the referral system in the area.

PRESIDENT Lungu and the first family are tomorrow expected to be among thousands of Zambians who will be fasting and praying at Lusaka’s Showgrounds.

And Bread of Life International overseer Bishop Joe Imakando has joined members of the clergy among other stakeholders in supporting and encouraging Zambians to turn up for the national day of prayers tomorrow.

Secretary to the Cabinet Roland Msiska said President Lungu is expected at the Showground’s main arena from 13:00 hours to the break of the fast at 18:00 hours.

Dr Msiska said in a statement in Lusaka yesterday that members of the public are invited to join President Lungu and members of the clergy during the last part of the prayers and fasting.

He said this will be after spending the first part of their praying and fasting in their respective places of worship and churches, where members of the public are encouraged to spend time praying and fasting in the morning.

“Government also wishes to reiterate that all bars, pubs and public places, including restaurants and fast-food outlets, shall remain closed from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours to enable members of the public to dedicate their time in fervent prayer and fasting,” Dr Msiska said.

President Lungu declared tomorrow, October 18, 2015 a day of repentance, fasting and prayer.

This is in response to numerous requests by ordinary citizens and clergy in view of the challenges facing the country.

And Bishop Joe Imakando, the Bread of Life International overseer, has joined members of the clergy among other stakeholders in supporting and encouraging Zambians to turn up for the national day of prayers tomorrow.

Bishop Imakando urged Zambians to pray citing the power of prayer in relation to incidents in the United Kingdom when children of God sought their Creator in difficult times.

He said Zambia is experiencing challenges such as power load shedding, which has changed individual lives and impacted on the economy negatively and adversely affected production and resulted in some job losses.

He said his church has scheduled prayers at the Blessing Centre in Lusaka’s Matero area from 15:00 to 18:00 hours tomorrow.

And Bus and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia (BTOAZ) said the call for national prayers by President Lungu is a noble cause that must be commended.

BTOAZ Lusaka Province chairperson John Banda said the nation needs God’s intervention to protect the Presidency in view of the deaths of two sitting Presidents.

Eradicating poverty is not practical-Davies Chama

26
PF Secretary General Davies Chama with his Deputy Mumbi Phiri
PF Secretary General Davies Chama with his Deputy Mumbi Phiri

PF Secretary General Davies Chama said Zambia will never eradicate poverty because it is impossible to do so.
Featuring on 5 FM’s Burning Issue program, Mr. Chama said eradicating poverty will always remain a pipe dream because no nation can wipe out poverty.

Mr. Chama said even developing nations such as the United States of America have failed to eradicate poverty.

‘This is just a fallacy, there is no way we can eradicate poverty, I just came back from South Africa last evening and I saw poor people there beginning on the streets. America still has a lot of poor people living on the streets, this goes to show that poverty eradication is just for the books of NGOs,’ Mr. Chama said.

He said the PF Government has done a lot to improve the standards of living of majority Zambians since taking over power four years ago.

Mr. Chama said some sections of the media have been criticizing the performance of the PF government unfairly.

‘This is something that we have come to accept as the PF. Some media houses are just malicious in their criticism of the PF government. We have done a lot of good since taking over government,’ he said

And Mr Chama has described President Lungu as a forgiving leader who was called names by some individuals prior to his election, but he has never sought or taken revenge after assuming office.

“President Lungu is a forgiving man. He has extended his reconciliatory message to everyone, even those who called him names,” Mr Chama said.

Mr Chama said Mr Lungu has no grudge against former Vice-President Guy Scott because as far as the President is concerned, he has reconciled with everyone who called him names.

Mr Chama said politics of scandalising, innuendos, lies and name-calling among politicians should be rejected by all well-meaning Zambians.

He said that there is so much hate speech among the citizenry and it is important to forgive each other.
Mr Chama said forgiveness is a sign of good leadership and should not be politicised because it is cardinal in ensuring peace.

He said the national day of repentance, prayer and fasting that President Lungu has called for is not aimed at the PF but for all citizens.

He said criticism of the re-alignment of government ministries is unfortunate because this was done to propel efficiency in service delivery.

Mr Chama also said President Lungu has not diverted from the PF manifesto of infrastructure development, which includes improving roads.

He said the challenges that the country is facing should not be politicised because they are not unique to Zambia.
On tribal remarks he allegedly made against the Tongas, Mr Chama said that his remarks were specifically directed at United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema and not the Tonga people.

Mr Chama said that he respects all tribes and that he holds no grudge against any tribe.

He also condemned violent party cadres, including those masquerading as PF cadres.

Canisius Banda describes Civil Servant Salary Hike as Fraudulent

43

Dr Canisius Banda talking to journalists
Dr Canisius Banda

UPND Vice President Dr Canisius Banda has described the new salary increments offered to portions of the public service as fraud.

Dr Banda said the civil servants have been hoodwinked into believing that they have been offered hefty salary hikes when in fact not.

He said reports that salaries of civil servants have been increased by 5.1% to 28.5% are a complete lie.

‘When you started at 1, and then depreciated to -1, an addition of -0.51 or -0.285 does not amount to an increment. At best, it is appeasement. It is a movement towards the past, where you started from,’ Dr Banda.

Dr Banda said the insistence in the use of the word increment amounts to cheating and deception.

‘These additions are not increments. They are cushions. They are not compansatory in their value insofar as they are expected to match inflationary trends over the same period.’

Dr Banda said civil servants salaries were last increased two years ago but that over the years, the two years period to the present, a lot of economic drama has happened.

‘For example, the Kwacha has left us, taxes have risen, fines have increased, prices of essential commodities have gone to the skies. On the same earnings/salaries of two years ago, civil servants are now spending twice for the same goods and their quantities.’

Adjusted salaries for civil servants
Adjusted salaries for civil servants

He said this year alone, the Kwacha has depreciated by 47% saying adding only K208 to K798 to your salary cannot be an increment.

Dr Banda said this is a subtle but classical case of government fraud.

‘That there is an increment is an illusion. But then there is always someone somewhere who sees these things. And this is why psychiatrists always turn up for work every day. It is understandable.’

Dr Banda said what is true is that the government is broke and that its fiscal status is dire and poor.

‘Workers countrywide are now poorer than they were two years ago. And they are feeling it! This is a fact. And being at sea, the government is failing to adequately address this crucial challenge,’ he said.

Dr Banda said that what is even worse is that this so called increment will only be effected in January 2016, by which time things would have changed again.

‘By which time the Kwacha might have disappeared; by which time the Kwacha having gotten lost, we might have given up our search for it. Shops and businesses will close, and prices will rise further between now and January 2016. Fertiliser is up from K220 per bag and it is now K450.

Kaingu accused of wanting to close CBU

Education Minister Hon. Michael Kaingu congratulates Kagem General Manager Dibya Baral on signing of an MOU scholarship agreement with the Univeristy of Zambia and Copperbelt University.
Copperbelt University Academics Union Secretary General Elaston Njovu has accused Higher Education Minister Michael Kaingu of planning to close the institution.

Mr. Njovu says it is obvious that the Minister wants the University to be closed because it does not matter to him whether the institution closes or not.

He says looking at Dr. Kaingu’s failure to address the challenges the University is facing, it is obvious that he is not interested in the welfare of the students at the universities in the country.

Mr. Njovu says the Minister should respond to the letter that was given to him 5 months ago.

He states that the lectures have refused to report for work under the leadership of CBU Vice-chancellor Professor Naison Ngoma.

Mr Njovu says the leadership of Professor Ngoma has failed to run the university.

And Copperbelt University Academics Union Deputy Secretary General Pamela Mutale says the Union expects Dr. Kaingu to make a decision that will positively transform CBU considering that he has been presented with the report.

DBZ and China Bank sign $ 30 million loan for SMEs support

1

dbz
The Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ) has signed a 30 million dollar loan agreement with the Chinese Development Bank.
The loan is meant to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in Lusaka this afternoon, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Yang Yoaming says SMEs play an important role in the development of any country.

Mr. Yoaming says no country can develop without the development of SMEs thus it is important that SMEs have access to finance to help them grow.

And DBZ Managing Director Jacob Lushinga says the loan will be repaid in 8 years at an interest rate of 5.5% per annum.
He says the targeted SMEs are those in the agriculture, mining and quarrying, manufacturing and tourism sectors.

And speaking after witnessing the signing ceremony, Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda says he is hopeful that DBZ will exhaust the loan and use it for the intended purposes.

Mr Chikwanda says it is government’s hope that as many SMEs as possible will benefit from the loans so that they grow and contribute to the economic development of the nation.

We’ll go for National Prayers to forgive Govt for not paying us- Ex UBZ workers

9
UBZ Bus
UBZ Bus

Former United Bus of Zambia (UBZ) employees in Northern Province have promised to turn out in numbers for the declared national day of prayers to forgive government for delaying to pay them their terminal benefits.

Speaking on behalf of other employees to ZANIS today, Jameson Mponyela observed that it would be important for all former UBZ workers to put everything aside and join hands with Government in preaching the word of reconciliation.

Mr Mponyela said God answers people in so many ways, adding that this could also be the only time that God could use Government leaders to look into their plight after prayers.

He said the former UBZ workers understand that Government also faces many financial challenges, adding that it was difficult for it to respond to many problems at once.

Mr Mponyela further said it is against this back ground that they got delighted to note that President Edgar Lungu has decided to involve God in his leadership.

He also urged politicians not to politicize this important day of prayers as it was anchoring on Christian values.

President Edgar Lungu has released three male prisoners who were jailed for three years for publication of false news with intent to cause fear and alarm to the general public.

According to a statement released to the media by State House today , President Lungu, in exercise of his Prerogative of Mercy pursuant to Article 59 (a) of the Constitution of Zambia CAP 1 of the Laws of Zambia, has signed the Order of Release.

The release is in line with the request by the Zambia Prisons Service to release the three prisoners who were part of the group agitating for the secession of Barotseland.

The release of the trio under the Presidential Amnesty Release is also in line with the President’s olive branch pursuant to his proclamation of Sunday, 18th October 2015 as the day of Repentance, Prayer and Fasting throughout the country.

The President will be releasing more prisoners under Presidential Amnesty on October 24th 2015 during Zambia’s 51st independence anniversary.

The released prisoners are: Wasilota Sikwibele aged 35; Nayota Mwenda, 32 and Boris Muziba, 37.
